I recognized it the first time when I overslept the first time, because there was no alarm-noise. Later this afternoon, the microphone refused to work. I reinstalled the Sony ROM 4.2.2, because I hoped, that the issue was caused by a software. But I was wrong.
The ear-speaker is still working. Does anybody have same experience? The Phone saw water but a few days ago. Don't know what to do actually.

Hey, I know this an old thread, but I just ran into something very similar myself. Did you ever get your problems fixed? I just made a post about it in the Droid Ultra forums (link below). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51743758

Hi,
actually I was never able to figure out what the problem was. I thought, that they just exchanged the mainboard of my phone and left the mic (probably with electronics/amplifier/stuff) as is. So I got a new phone, but with old problems. Actually, right now it's working just fine. Don't think that it was caused by software though, becuase even in sony support mode there was no audio recordable by the microphone and no sound as well.. Sorry dude.

My earpiece stopped working today. This is the second time the earpiece of my Xperia T died. The first time was in October when I had the phone replaced as it was within the one month period. The very same thing has happened again with me within a few months of getting my replacement handset. I was able to locate another person who had the very same problem on some forums. I definitely think that the build quality of this phone is not as it ought to be as it cannot be a coincidence that I got the same issue twice with two separate brand new handsets!
Have just booked a repair with Sony's authorised repairer (SBE limited in UK). Has anyone else faced the same problem here?

I had issues of people finding it hard to hear me..meaning mic volume isnt enough. Got it replaced within the one month period to a brand new one.
Issue seemed to have reduced then but now its there many times, thus I have to speak louder than usual. Yet couldnt be bothered to go for a repair.
Not many users seem to have this issue. When did you get your first handset? I got mine on end of Sept (more or less release day in uk..) I have a feeling its to do with a specific batch (similar to the peeling issue)

I got mine at the release date as well! Then had it replaced after 3 weeks...
Solved the issue!
The exact details of this issue can be seen at talkDOTsonymobileDOTcomDASHthreadDASH56851?start=0&tstart=0
(Sorry for that bad URL as I am too new to copy links)
I did a factory reset, flashed ICS from JB Europe generic, then updated to UK generic JB via PC Companion. Still the problem did not go. Then just out of curiosity I checked if I could hear sound from my Sony supplied headphones, and I could. I then removed the headphones and bingo everything is back to normal.
I think there is an inherent software bug with the Sony software for this phone where under some odd scenario sound gets disabled. Maybe if anyone else gets into a similar situation they can take heed of the resolution. Saved a couple of weeks at the repair shop at least!
Same Problem
I had the same problem on more than one occasion in past plugging in handfree and unplugging would work but over the weekend i ended up doing a factory reset but still didnt work but strangly somebody rung me and ear piece now working! im still in warrenty should i send away?

Well I have already my Z1 since almost 9~10 months, I love it, so far I'm very comfortable with it, but after all this time it start to make a strange sound with the vibrator (do it randomly, sometimes when I'm just writing something with the keyboard, get a notification and so on....)
I recorded and it sounds very crearly:
You can hear the normal sound the vibrator will do and sometimes a rare sound, I dont know the exact word to describe it, I have already taken to telcel service (the carrier here, they send it to sony) and already (according to them) replace the vibrator, and the main board (I dont know if it is correct to say the "main board", I have another IMEI number from the original I have , but it is still the same phone, same scratches )
It still make this noise, I dont remember that in the beginning make this noise, and its a little annoying sometimes
I want to know if someone has this problem too, I search a little in the forum but I dont see anyone else with this problem :crying:

I have job, and repair sheets which they claimed to have carried out. Including changing the vibrator. ( one Techie , also stating the vibrator was outta place ), nothing fixed it.
This is after 5 or 6 attempts trying to fix it.
Had to threaten them with legal action , to get it completely replaced. So far so good with the replacement , no sign of trouble.

So, fist time post.
Anyway, a friend of mine gave me his Flex the other day. He was upset because he couldn't get the sound/audio to work and no one could hear him on his end, showing his mic wasn't working (first time this has happened). After tinkering around for a bit (cleaning over and over), trying everything I could, even downgrading it from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 to see if it was a software problem. Still nothing. Yet, when a headset or just normal headphones are plugged in everything works fine.
So, after all of that we took it in and they said it wasn't a hardware problem, but they couldn't find a solution and they couldn't replace the handset with his warranty already expired. So, I was hoping there was someone here who could help me. I was thinking maybe if there was a software problem I didn't catch if installing a custom rom on it would help. I was hoping to hopefully get some insight before going to that.
Also, sorry if this is in the wrong section, still new here.
There are no "custom" per say ROMs besides the cm11 one Playfulgod and I have posted in the dev section. If you're on 4.2.2 download Playfulgod's cm11. But it doesn't stay booted and there is no data. Download mine ,which is only Playfulgod's cm that I've modified to boot with 4.4, and the is no sound but it has data and stable boot. I don't suggest either one as your fix though. If you flash the stock 4.2.2 or the stock 4.4.2 software to it and there still is no sound except through the headphone jack then I can't imagine it not being a hardware issue. I mean it pretty much has to be a hardware issue.
And besides the kats at these stores selling you the phones or answering your questions, stereotypically no smarter about the devices than any other 20 year old that has googled and memorized the specs of the phones. They know specs and sales pitches. Other wise they have to revert to the computer and go through a series of elimination questions to diagnose your issue. Ive even had to show one rep how to use lg PC suite to flash his g2 back to stock. And that's the standard issue software that we all have.
My best guess on your issue is the device could have been dropped or damaged in some way that has loosened or broken a connection or part inside rendering the speaker useless. But that's my opinion.
Well I don't think it's been dropped. At least he said he didn't drop it. After pulling it apart I made sure everything was in the right place and nothing was shorted out or disconnected. So I'll probably send it into a repair shop to see if they can do anything with it. Though a headset would probably just be the better way to go, it's just an inconvenience.

Absolutely. I would hate to have to through in my ear buds every time I had to answer a call
Well after installing Master Volume Control, I have been able to test that the speaker does in fact work. But no sounds of any kind aside from voice call, work, the normal beep you get when using the volume rockers. This is starting to drive me crazy.
might have solution
Just received my refurbished flex phone, realized no sound from speaker. Popped the back off a couple times, suddenly I hear sound! The cable over the battery when lifted and remove the crease caused by shape of battery removed, speaker now works! I hope this helps you. Best of luck.

Dears,
Suddenly mu microphone stopped and the other person cannot hear me. I don' t know what happened but there is no problem with handsfree. I can record my voice but the volume is low... Strange thing.
I made hard reset at rr rom. Not help.
I change the rom to stock+. Not help.
I reflash rr rom. Not help.
Could you help me? Why thats happened? Is there any solution to fix it?
I think that motorola service is the only solution... ?
I know it may sound stupid, but have you checked for dust, lint or water in the mic hole?

Yes i checked it many times. Yesterday it worked fine for one call and after this call the problem was there again. I don't know if it is software problem or hardware. Now i am running 5.7.3 rr rom unofficial and the first time that i found this problem, but only for one call, was at 5.7.1 rr.
But the problem remains after a clean install of stock+ rom. Now i am at vacations and i have not my laptop here. Next week i will flash the original, stock 6.0 firmware to see if the problem remains. And if yes, motorola service center is the only solution...:crying:
Well before sending it to service I would put my hopes in the "real" stock ROM. After all "stock+" is still a tampered one.
Enjoy your holidays in the meantime
Original stock rom didn't solve my problem and the issue with microphone remains. Everything else worked perfect, speakers, bluetooth, handsfree, so i believe that it's a hardware problem.
Yesterday i sent my phone at Motorola Service Center so i have to wait about 3 or 4 business days to learn which is the problem. I will post everything new.
Motorola service center changed the old microphone with a new one and my phone now works like a charm! It was a hardware problem caused by no reason...
Having same issue

Does Motorola Service replaced the top microphone (Above camera)? or Replaced the bottom one just above the micro usb plug on back side?
I am facing the same issue and Motorola Service told me that the bottom microphone is mounted(fixed) on motherboard. So it will cost 6500INR approx. So I am not sure that it needs to replace the top one or bottom one?
Any advice will be helpful. Thanks in advance.
Kishan M. (Moto X 2014 XT1092)
No, they replaced the main microphone which it was on the mainboard. And i am sure that it was not mounted on the mainboard. The other two microphones you described was perfect and till now work like a charm. I will put a photo with the replacement parts to see the microphone changed.
Hello,
Both the earpiece and the other speaker suddenly stopped working on my nexus 6. I am suspecting it is a hardware issue since I performed a hard reset but the issue still persists. The odd thing is that both the earpiece and the speaker are affected at the same time. Are they connected to each other?
Is there any way I can make sure that this is indeed a hardware issue before cracking open the phone?
Thanks

Before I opened the phone, I'd boot to safe mode and see if things work. If they do, reboot and see if the problem comes back. Booting into safe mode disables all unnecessary apps, clears caches and resets settings to default. Sometimes that resolves your problem and on reboot things are working again.

So I guess it sounds like hardware. You might take s close look and see if there is damage/dirt in the jack making the device think the headphones are connected. The pin is easily bent and wears so it's probably just that. ifixit has a repair guide.
Alternatively, you might consider Bluetooth headphones [emoji4]

Thanks. I don't think it's the jack issue because I installed an app that shows a headphone icon in the status bar when a headphone is plugged in and it doesn't show it when nothing is connected.
Do you know why both speakers ceased functioning at the same time AND if there is a way for me to direct audio to only one of them, either the earpiece or the speaker, to see if one or both
are dead?
wow. I reverted back to an earlier build from Feb and now it's working. Very interesting.

First, sorry to hear about your problem. But, I am actually happy to see this up at xda. Tell you why. I purchased a uesd nexus 6 from a seller on ebay. Description was everythings works. Pics showed it was in excellent condition.
Problem was when it arrived. I discovered the top speaker was trash. Total robot like voice. Of course seller denied any knowledge of it. My option was to return it to him. But judging from the way he spoke to me. I could tell it was going to be a fight. There is no way he did not know about this. I wound up eating the phone and am currently awaiting a new top speaker. So, please dont forget to ask about speakers if buying used. My concern was body and screen. I never thought to ask about speakers and I never thought there would be crooks like him. Wrong...

It is interesting. Is it possible you had a mismatch between kernel and security updates? "Newer" kernel on "older" ROM? Or vice versa. The difference doesn't have to be more than one has a security update that the other didn't.

More like mismatched or corrupted libs or drivers
Know this is an older thread, but just figured I'd post what I found regarding a similar issue I had. My phone basically took a 3 second dunk in the sink. Everything seemed fine the first hour or two, then the speakers stopped working. However, it seems like the speakers failing is some kind of water damage failsafe or something. The solution is just to turn your phone off and on around 5 times (I can't remember the exact number, but once or twice won't cut it), and you will have the speakers return to normal. Not sure if the OP had the same issue, but just an idea in case something similar happens to others.
Bumping an old thread but I had this same issue and had to flash back to previous builds. I stopped updating my phone around Jan/Feb. Tried to update to the Aug 7.1.1 build and the same thing happened again. I didn't try the turn on and off 5+ times, I'm just once again restoring my Jan/Feb build.
Can anyone else confirm this "fix" or has this same problem?
I'd boot to safe mode first. If it works then, it has something to do with an app, your app restore process or something like that.
