Apps supporting Cast - Google Chromecast

Just wanted to create a thread to list the apps that currently or are rumored to support cast in the very near future:
Here is what I have:
-Google Play Movies & TV
-Google Play Music
-Youtube
-Netflix
-Pandora (coming)
-Redbox Instant (coming)
-Vimeo (coming)
-HBO Go (coming)
-AOL (coming)
-Revision3 (coming)
-Plex (coming)
-From Gallery app in Android - This is very exciting - http://www.androidauthority.com/chromecast-app-share-android-gallery-250908/

Lol. This is like the 5th thread like this

I'm trying to get everyone interested in such a thing to work on a single shared document that everyone can collaborate on. This is what we have so far: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoHonOJYF6d8dFFwUk0xYW1lRmxGc1FrR29mc3lIa3c#gid=1

If you're trying to be authoritative at least be accurate
Plex isn't "coming"; it's developers announced they were interested and would look at it.
They also noted they've a lot of projects in motion & any specific Chromecast support would likely have to wait it's turn for attention.
That's hardly "coming" & it's a disservice to the Plex developers & everyone else to misidentify it as such.

i'd like to see amazon in there.

Looking for beta testers for new Honeycomb App - What to Watch on Netflix

Hi - cross posting this from my post on the Xoom forum. I was wondering if anyone with Honeycomb running on a Nook color could test out my new What To Watch on Netflix app. It lets you do more sophisticated searches for movies and manage your Netflix queues. The app was designed specifically for Honeycomb tablets.
More details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13143801#post13143801 including how to download it.
I'm anxious to hear how the layout looks on the NC since I've developed it on a Xoom.
You can also reach me at [email protected]
Thanks!
-Gregg Reno
PS - no, it doesn't stream Netflix. Maybe someday.
You should put this in the Dev forum.

Any Hope of more (Official) Content?

I'd like to start a thread for news/rumors of more officially supported services.
Not casting web-pages, or demo Apps/Hacks, but Official Apps from other services that support Chromecast.
Any hope?
well hulu and pandora is confirmed, but the main problem right now is the SDK isn't complete (they have a preview one out though).
Once the SDK is done we will start seeing a lot of content I bet.
I am looking forward to bitcasa support. That will be awesome.

I hope so - I think this is the first step of moving away from Broadcast TV for TV entertainment. This is the revolution that Apple had planned to do but didn't. When people do reviews of the Cast I think they miss the largest point. Controlling the content using an interface we all love (phone or tablet) is a giant step forward. Using the built in smart features of a TV or DVD to search for a YouTube video is a terrible experience. You need a link to find most things and those are shared in communication links in your phone.

Ya i thought that is what you were talking about, what else the chromecast will be able to do. Its confirmed it will be able to use hulu and pandora should be comming kinda soon. And HBO, Vimeo, Redbox Instant, Vevo (?), Devour (?), Blip (?) (maybe these are britsh or something, i've never heard of them), have all mentioned they are planning on it.

So ya in total we have
right now
youtube
netflix
google play music
google play video
soon
hulu
pandora
HBO go
announced support
Vimeo
Redbox Instant
Vevo
Devour
Blip
plus soon we get the official sdk and we will get 100s of apps I bet
Hulu said they were interested in adding it some day. I wouldn't be expecting it anytime soon. The only real partner besides Netflix announced at launch was Pandora. My guess is Pandora will release an update about the same time the final SDK is released. Google is probably working with Pandora as sort of a beta test of the SDK.

[RELEASE] Cloudcast vs. Chromecast!

Hey y'all,
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
I'm excited to share my latest new app in Google Play: CLOUDCAST
Cloudcast lets you play online entertainment from one Android device to another, from anywhere on the planet! Unlike Chromecast, Cloudcast is NOT limited to your Wi-Fi network and you can stream content from ANY website in your device!
The idea was born out of frustration with Chromecast. Google released Chromecast in the summer of 2013 but did not allow independent developers like us to publish apps for it. Since I spent months writing code for their "preview" SDK, I did not want all my work to go to waste. That is when the idea of Cloudcast was born - why not use any Android device as a player instead of Chromecast and not be limited to the Wi-Fi network!
So here it is finally! Hope y'all find the app useful. Let me know what you think. It's a free app, requires latest Google Play & YouTube apps and runs on Android 2.2 or above.
Cheers!

Look around the interwebs. I've seen the MK808 go for as low as $30 recently.
I have had one for about a year now, paid a bit more for it, and am quite happy with it.
Does all the Android stuff well and now even XBMC (13 beta7) runs great on it, using Finless v1.7 ROM and kisses 720p kernel.

Does Google Play work in MK808? I heard others had issues signing in. I'm looking to get one.
The one I used in the Cloudcast demo is Evoke HDI, runs 4.01 but it's a lot slower than even 1.2 GHz phones.

I picked it up in Fry's, but no one sells them anymore.
I don't understand this part: ''The free version contains ads and can only cloudcast for 10 minutes at a time.''
10 mins only? then what next, because 10 mins is nothing..
Also can I cast all my movies from a Window PC to my Android stick?..Thanks

Sure, when you use Cloudcast you will be installing in two devices - your phone (the browser/remote) and the Android stick (the media player). The free version is for you to test out Cloudcast in your Wi-Fi network or wireless carrier to make sure it's responsive. If you are casting videos < 10 mins then you won't have to upgrade. After 10 minutes the player will stop to give you an option to upgrade or close. You can still continue to use the browser and play locally or cast again. The browser has no time limits. When you upgrade the 10 time limit for the player is removed and the ads at the bottom of the browser are removed as well. Hope it makes sense.
If you are storing movies in a web server in your Windows PC and if you're able to access them from an Android browser (say http://network_pc/movies/...) then you can play and control the movies from your phone to the Android stick. The PC has to stay on and folders shared for the entire movie.
Instead of a web server you can try shared folders, Cloudcast will work if the URL is accessible by a browser (say file:///network_pc/movies...). My Evoke HDI Android box can see shared folders (without a webserver) and it's also possible with a rooted phone. Hope it helps.

The MK808 has had access to Google Play (and Amazon), whether on Stock or custom ROMs, without any issues. There are JellyBean versions out now, but I have mine still on ICS. Good forum for Android sticks (and not-so-mainstream Tablets) is Freaktab.com. Good place to compare the different Android Sticks and set-top-boxes.

Feels nicer than Cheapcast, but I'm realizing these types of apps can never do paid content, right? I can't do netflix. So these will always be a compliment to chromecast, not replacement.
Or, am I not understanding something? How do I play netlfix, hbo go, hulu plus, etc. I have paying accounts for these. Netflix and HBO Go requires you to play in an app. You can't play in the browser, so that means this won't work, correct?
No paid content yet!

Yes, you're absolutely correct. Cloudcast currently cannot play paid content because there is no user authentication at the player end. Netflix won't play in any mobile browser because of their restrictions. Like you said they want you to use their app!
That said, if the content providers offer a way to authenticate in a web browser (oAuth or login), then we can validate the user at both ends (browser and player). I will look further and see if there are providers that offer that option. Will keep you updated.
I'm sure there are apps out there that "cast" without a Chromecast. If there are enough of us to show content providers the value in offering browser based HTML5 delivery model, then they will soon realize that we all don't need to be locked up in Google's walled garden. This is just a spark and I'm hoping to start a fire!
Calling all indie devs who want to cast without a Chromecast!!
Thank you for this great question. I'll be sure to add this in the FAQs.

Chromecast gets Plex, Vevo, RealPlayer, Viki and more with massive app update

Here it is folks, the first wave of new apps and boy oh boy it's a big list!
*unlocks garden gate*
http://gigaom.com/2013/12/10/chrome...player-viki-and-more-with-massive-app-update/
Plex is a great little app but this feature will be rolled out FIRST to premium subscibers.
RealPlayer cloud opens the door to streaming video from their online storage (2GB free - more than that = paid) and is limited to 15 minutes to discourage piracy.
aVia indexes photos on Picasa, Dropbox and Facebook, allowing users to show any of their photos on any of these services on their TV but alas you need to be a paid subscriber for this service also.
Now play podcasts via BeyondPod and enjoy the Washington Post’s PostTV, online music service Songza, RedbullTV, Revision3, VEVO and Viki on your little dongle of delight.

Now that's what I am talking about.
LOL aVia's site is getting bombarded. Their database can't keep up (search is giving me database connection error). That gives us a little bit of insight as to how many Chromecast users and followers there are out there!
This is pretty important.. Is there a possibility that someone can release an "emergency" pwncast to get these new streaming abilities? Or does it just have to do with the Whitelist?

Only the whitelist.
It's a good point to make that one of the downsides of using a custom ROM/firmware is that updates and such will encounter some delay. After all, people like the folks on Team Eureka are donating their own free time. It's not their job, nor do they work at/for Google (at least not as far as I know), so with the power of root comes a requirement of patience.

If you're rooted, you'll have to wait for the custom whitelist to get updated.
If you're stock, just make sure all your apps are up-to-date.
Chromecast support in Plex is currently limited to PlexPass members.
Chromecast support in aVia is part of the paid extras (at least that's what the article in the original post says, and from what I can tell so far - free has no Cast icon or option)
EDIT: Hmm... just bought aVia and still can't find the Cast option... might be because I don't have a Chromecast visible at the moment...
2 of the apps i installed had an update. vevo and the PostTv. I switched to another account on the play store and it showed up. So it appears the apps are being updated now.
