Hi Guys.
I just got myself a HTC One on O2, black, not that it matters.
I'd like to stick with the original software for a little while at least to test it out. Eventually I'll load it with Cyanogenmod but I think only nightlies are available at the moment.
In the mean time however I would at the least like to remove all the crap that comes bundled that I don't want. Like twitter.
Whats the least invasive way to remove all the crap.
I will eventually flash cyan but I'd like to avoid major changes for now if possible, although I'm guessing I'm gonna have to at least root it.

In the short term, I would just disable rather than delete. Same net effect, but without messing with /system, which you will lose anyway if you flash CM.

I would s-off with revone, change the CID to something like HTC__001 and then flash a 401 ruu, this will effectively debrand your device. You could of course aso try out the google edition CID and RUU but give sense 5 a try, sense 5 is really really good

I've hated sense up until sense 5 and love it, I agree best way would be just to disable them. That's what I did before I rooted.

Sadly some have Disable greyed out, I'm disabling some though. I'm gonna leave most of them until I can try them out properly.
The other thing is that there are a lot of sync accounts. I can disable the sync but not remove the accounts, any ideas

you can just hide them from the app drawer for now, and keep the app sync and notifications for the apps disabled

Just don't activate the accounts you don't use. The phone will never bother you about syncing other accounts and you'll forget about it soon enough. I have my Google account, FB/Twitter and Dropbox active and the phone's never bothered me about activating others, if that's what you're worried about.
My advice: learn to root if you haven't already, and run rom cleaner if the rom you want supports it (I'm on ARHD 12.1 w/a standard rom cleaner run, phone is super fast with very low battery consumption)

Is there a ROM available which does not have HTC Sense, and has only Native Clean Andriod in it..
There's no Generic Android rom atm. I'm also waiting + hoping for one.
What about Nexus One ROM? I really digg the UI
If you pay for a premium MoDaCo account, you can cook a MoDaCo rom without Sense UI
I no longer care for Sense. It's great when you have a current Android version, but it creates a big lag-time between new Android release and new HTC rom release.
I wish I had gotten the Nexus One instead.....

I feel you mate. I had the same thought. Looking at how slow HTC were in bringing 2.1 to the Hero, I have a bad premonition that the same gonna happen to the Legend.
And I really like the UI/UX on the Nexus One. Any custom ROM that has Nexus One app launcher, photo app, etc.?
Well I've searched and there's only a few (3 that I could found) custom roms available now, all with Sense. I decided for myself to give it another 2 wks and then, if there's still no clean Android rom, I'm selling my Legend and getting Milestone. And no more HTC phones for me as they only make them with Sense now.

not Full... you get a lot FCs if you cook a rom without Sense
There is a rom available on Modaco without sense.. Espresso
It works very smooth and looks great!
This is the link
Edit: No, there still is Sense.. Just with extras.
if you hate it so much, why don't you disable it...
well it isn't quite disabling but it will work fine...go to settings application management and find htc sense and click "remove defaults" or so....next time you hit the home button you will be prompted to use sense or android home...if you want to keep the android home, simply hit "make default" in the same window that pops out when you press the home button

Don't think so Michael. I'm prepared to be corrected but I don't think default android apps wiill appear upon deleting HTC custom apps.
I did try to remove the HTCSenseLockScreen.apk and it did not give me the default google lockscreen... it was really strange... the lockscreen did work like the sense one where you drag it down, but no background on it and the text was messed up...
Right now i am playing with the Sense from the MyTouch and that look great...

Yeah they won't, but i would be willing to cook a rom containing the factory legend rom rooted, and with no HTC apps but stock android apps, if someone would be willing to test this method?
i am willing to test... if you want i have the system from the vodafon 2.02.178.2 build.. well it is in the 2.2 tread on modaco from some china dude.. i mean why not use the latest bug fixes also for the rom if it should be..

It's not about hating SENSE, it's about wanting the stock Android because of updates, ie. a better phone. SENSE is great, when it's paired with the latest Android. But when it's used with an older than current version, it creates lag time.
I am going to sell my Legend and get an Nexus One. It's older, but it's still betterish than anything else out there.

I did it this way, deleted allmost every HTC stuff. But if you remove a HTC-app, it will not give you the default android one. You have to get these apps from somewhere. I just thought about creating a rom without that htc stuff.
But i have to say that not every htc app is crap. Some apps are better than the android one.
Have you tried removing Rosie?
Any problems afterwards?
I have made a sense free (ish) Rom, there is still some slight differences like the black bar on top.
But it still beta, i will upload it tonight or tomorrow
EDIT :
Deffo tomorrow, i am too tired to keep working
This is a senseless rom. Works great.
You can grab it from here:
http://inc.sodpit.com/roms/ozzeh/
Just installed this rom. It seems to work pretty smooth but when I went into accounts to add gmail it doesnt list it as an option. A big part of the phone experience is having this integration but it looks like it has been taken out. If I am missing something please let me know.
Thanks for the effort!
http://roms.sodpit.com/2010/06/22/unrevolved-zip-by-ozzeh/ you need to install google apps
You can also add your gmail account to the native Mail App but, that takes away from the senseless feel though.
Nice job ozzeh, feels very fast. Very clean.
Btw setcpu doesn't work, does it? (Only questioned your screenshot)
My main question would be, do you see better battery life with the Sense-less UI? I don't really have a problem with Sense in general, other than it seems to run a lot of cr*p in the background, my assumption is this adds to the terrible battery life of the Incredible (compared to the Moto Droid, even when overclocked). Just curious on your experiences with battery life with this rom, might make it worth it.

I just installed it this morning around 6am so far the battery life is alot better but, I'm use to having over fifty apps installed. Give it a day or two, for some real results.
Can't download
When I click the link to download, it just redirects me back to the same page. When I click the apps link, get a cannot be found error.
Anybody else experiencing this??
edit...nevermind. You have to download from the roms.sodpit.com frontpage. Won't download from http://roms.sodpit.com/2010/06/22/unrevolved-zip-by-ozzeh/roms/ozzeh/apps.zip
LOVING the home screen rotation, AH finally! Might actually stick with this one for a bit after I try out jager 1.1
Silly Questions
But, I am really curious how the facebook / contact integration is without the htc sense facebook integration? Is it the same I like that all my facebook contacts link to my google contacts, but does this option go away with sense?
Also sharing photos from the gallery with HTC facebook, seems like it would go away too, and while I haven't used the regular facebook for some time, I remember it not being as easy and as convenient as the other (i.e. couldn't add the photo and create a new album at the same time, etc)
anyone care to share their experience with these 2 things?
can't get this to flash. MD5 sum is correct and everything seems fine but it hangs at the white incredible boot screen forever! Tried everything but it never works, Oh well.
Try redownloading it through your PC browser or phone browser...it works fine for everyone else so there is no reason it shouldn't work for you...other than an error on your end.
ozzeh, my nandroid backups got screwed up. Your unrevolved rom is my default rom for now, hope it'll support me
Is it possible to backup text messages? It'd be nice to have them persist after the flash

yes! SMS backup and restore in the market or Titanium Back up. SMS backup and restore does not need root but ii recommend it 100%!
For some reason Gmail and Google Talk have the 'unknown' android icon, and they both force close when trying to launch... what did I do wrong? Market works fine. I tried applying apps.zip downloaded (twice) from my laptop and once from inside the phone browser to no avail.

for me the facebook integration is still essentially the same. and i say that because you can still link all ur facebook contacts to google. also sharing is still the same, as the facebook app for android is the same for sense as well. Now, the caveat to this is I came from my sprint Hero phone with no sense and that is how it worked. Also, I have not personally used this ROM yet.

Considering I am having the same problem, do tell, what error on our end would it be? I mean, yeah, the phone was wiped. The MD5s match. So whats the issue?
Its easy to say user error, its quite another to actually help someone out and explain the problem. If you don't know, then don't say it.
I've compiled my own roms for the Moto Droid, and have never had issues flashing them. I think I am qualified enough to flash a copy and paste job.
Is this what you have to do to apply the rom?
1 Download the build.
2 Rename it to "update.zip".
3 Copy it to the root of your phone's SD card.
4 Turn your phone off.
5 Start up in recovery mode by holding Home and pressing Power.
6 Press ALT+W to wipe your device. (You need to do this, or the device may hang at the flashing Android screen)
7 Press ALT+S to apply the update.
One other thing, if this is truly a sense free ROM, I wonder if JIT will play nice with it. I know JIT hated Sense, perhaps someone with the ROM installed wants to give it a try? I'll try it out later if I have time to install the rom.
I am not rooted and want to know other than using ATK, is there anyway to stop Sprint TV and Sprint V-Mail to load on start up, I know we cannot uninstall if not rooted but don't want them running in the background every time I reboot, other than ending the task on every reboot any other suggestion if possible
Not that I'm aware of.
Even though they come on at start-up, they really don't drain that much on your active memory or battery because they don't get used, so after a little while Android kinda shifts them into the background basically. So while it still looks like they're running, Android's default memory management is such that those programs/services won't really hurt your performance since they aren't being actively used.
There is no way to do that without rooting.

Just install a task manager and if you're seeing it, add it to the ignore list.

Just know that adding a program to Ignore doesn't actually kill/end the app. It only makes it not show up in the list of running/active programs. There will also be some kind of kill/end option which does close the app. (at least that's the way it is in the couple task managers I've used)

You are correct thus the reason I did away with the TK, and you are all right as it does not really use up much memory, as I downloaded Spare Parts and those both apps when I check the battery stats in the CPU usage they don't even show up. I promise boys one day I will Root just for the experience and I know I may never look back, the only reason why I have not yet is because ever since I did away with Sense UI and have been using Launcher Pro my lag has been much much less and the phone is working much better, and the sleep mode issue I have been having only happens once a week now, thanks all

Yeah dude, it's your phone...so do whatever it is that you want/need to make it good for you. That's a main reason we're here -- to help users get their phones working just the way want them to. Last time I checked we weren't running ppl off for not being rooted
Ha, I think I rooted my phone within an hour of getting it in the mail from Sprint, just to remove the bloatware.
Hi there,
Got my hands on my friends HTC One which I unlocked and rooted. Still running a stock rom though.
I was wondering if anyone decided to ditch the Sense 5 yet and what the consequences of that might be, basically what I'm trying to do is disable the blinkfeed but I assume it's part of HTC Sense?
If you flash an AOSP or AOKP rom you will lose zoe function, boomsound and other stuff
However, i think you can't fully disable blinkfeed
i've ditched the launcher for Nova, still like all the other sense apps and features

Ah okay, I'll guess there will be custom roms in the future without sense but with the important features.
Time will tell eh:good:
I found that HTC Sense was draining a lot of battery after I signed into a bunch of different accounts. I think it was mostly BlinkFeed, but there could be more.
After unlocking the bootloader and rooting, I skipped the sign in prompts for HTC's services, and only signed into my Google account. From there I installed Nova Launcher, and my battery life has been better than ever.
Personally I still want to keep HTC Sense for the IR blaster app and Bluetooth apt-X, but most of the other features are unnecessary to me.

If you're just trying to get rid of blinkfeed, you can use any of the custom launchers (Apex, Nova, GoLauncher, etc) and you won't have to worry about it anymore.
If you're rooted/ROM'ed, you can run the ROM Cleaner script (link below)
