Hi guys,
I tried to root my razr i XT890.
Successfully I could easily unlock the bootloader.
But the CWM flash/installation didn't work.
I tried dozens of tutorials and youtube instructions, even the installer.
But when I rebooted to make the final root, it was again the stock recovery :crying:
Can someone help me?
More specific: in the command line (pc) it said it finished flashing, while in the phone it said "flashing" for several minutes. so I just rebooted.
Currently I'm stuck in the stock recovery. Can't do anything. Screen is on. Dammit. I think I have to wait till the battery is empty :/
As an emergency, you can force turn off by pressing pwr+VolUp+VolDn keys all three at the same time for about 8 seconds, the phone should shutdown... let us know how does it come up after rebooting...

Thank you very much it did work.
Do you have any idea about the cwm?
I used the same installer you're referencing above (by Lebobo), but installed TWRP instead, it has always worked fine for me, it has the same features (and then some more) than CWM recovery... it's worth a try...

I tried it already. Without success :crying:
mmmm let's see, you say you get stock recovery back after a reboot, that means you have got custom recovery at one time to attempt rooting, is this correct?
What rooting method are you attempting? I recall using a RazrIRoot2.1[JB].zip file to gain root... actually it's still in my microSD card...

actually it was all the time the stock recovery. I think.
Yes I planned to root with the RazrIRoot2.1[JB].zip file once I solved the CWM installation
.
Well, it should be very straight forward, bootloader should be unlocked and USB debugging enabled for it to work, can't think of other prerequisite... if you have these two you should be good to go... it should not be necessary, but probably try a factory reset / cache and dalvik wipe... but you would loose all of your data... then again enable usb debugging...
.
As I said the Bootloader is unlocked. USB debugging is of course enabled.
Android is JB 4.1.2 Could this be a reason?
http://www.handy-faq.de/forum/showthread.php?p=2566441
Try our TWRP or CWM Flasher. Connect with USB Debugging enabled, start the FlashTWRP.bat.
After it flashed the Recovery, it will bring you right back into the Bootloader. Select Recovery with Vol.down, accept with vol. up and get rooted

You should be able to flash recovery in JellyBean with no problem using Lebobo's installer, that's not an issue... have you tried this version as well? There are options for black and white, that is only the interface, they work the same...
Thank you sooo much HSD-Pilot.It worked immediately.
I try now to install Omars Rom and after that Pdroid.

Congrats Janine! Let us know how it goes with PDroid, I understand is not compatible with RazrI...

Hi everyone
After a lot of reading i decided to install a ROM. Now i was able to try to but none of them worked, so i ve been trying now for 3 days. I think i did it all as stated in this forums, it launched but never go to really open the OS, used to get stuck at the motorola or nexus logos or what ever logo from the different ROMs i downloaded.
I was able to go back to the original ROM but today im not being able to do so...
What can i do? Im at recovery and im able to restore boot but at system it says:Error while restoring /system!
I had it backedup at pc so i have also removed the one at sd card and tried with the one from PC.
What can i do (that doesnt involve getting another phone)
You can try RSDLite to flash back stock ROM just be careful and flash right ROM, otherwise you can brick your phone. You can't flash custom ROMs with RSD.

Boot the phone into bootloader/fastboot?
You have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed? I assume you have both since you were trying to install custom ROMs.
I have tried to the fastboot... im trying AP fastboot and theres where i am stuck right now.
Yes custome recovery and unlocked bootloader there. I had the phone moved to another couple of roms but the never loaded correctly so i went back to my original ROM, i tried a few other ROMs and none worked so this time i try to go back but it doesnt come back anymore...
Try downloading PhilzAdvanced CWM Recovery. It is based off the latest CWM and should be able to flash your backups or ROMS. Maybe not your backups unless you made them with a CWM based recovery, but it should get you booted up.

1. Read the Myth Tools OP
2. Download Myth Tools
3. Download Philz CWM
4. Download a stock fastboot
5. Place the fastboot zip and the extracted recovery/cwm.img in their respected folders
6. Run Myth's executable and follow the instructions
7. If that doesn't work then read the faqs here and in the RAZR HD forums, all your questions have been answered already.
Still with same issue...
Phone is not recognized by the computer (tried 3 different laptops)
Cannot download the Drivers as its an automated process that begins when you connect the phone...
Does anyone knows an alternative to install AHD drivers ?

Again, my main issue device not detected by pc... so i cant download drivers using automatic tools that detects the phone because again phone is not detected and mythtools goes straight to the motorola device manager which needs a phone connected to act... so in a very bad circle i am... and i would try to use someone else phone but here in Costa Rica i know of noone else with a Motorola phone... everyone thinks it no longer exists... and i havent found a way to download the specific drivers for my specific device in a way it doesnt require to be connected.
You can boot into recovery? If so download the latest philztouch cwm recovery, put it on your sd card, and flash it from recovery. Then flash the ROM you want.

Nice i managed to flash the philztouch recovery... the damn phone doesn't want to accept any ROM... keeps aborting them. So far thanks a lot... ill read like crazy today again and ill ask for help if failure salutes me again!

If you made a backup of your stock after rooting try flashing that and then hooking your phone up to your pc

It finally works
It works... i think somehow the recovery stopped working at some point... now with Philz phone was recognized by pc and i was able to use Myth tools to do the job. I think this will be my last Motorola...
Things to highlight:
1 i did read a lot before doing anything, still somehow screwed up, did read lots before asking here, still needed to ask... got answers, still needed to ask more... it was fun as everyone at work said: " its bricked fool buy a new one and stop playing to be good at something" but hell yeah its fixed!
2 i will try again to install another rom, i wont give up damn it!
3 i might begin with my wife Note 1, its old so its ok to brick it ha ha ha
4 damn it guys you are cool... wish i were 10% of you guys!
5 I think instead of all those different options out there we should recommend only to use the myth tools, its a complete package and its easy to use even with examples for newbies like me.
Again thanks and questions on friday after i brick it again e he he he...
The other stuff is there so you can understand what the automated stuff is actually doing.

Ok so i have started the process again. I cant tell what i am doing wrong. I have flashed 2 different roms and none worked... its like im missing something.
I root the device, unlock bootloader... set the recovery with cwm... flash the rom... and it goes to moto logo and then black screen... am i missing something?
I did the exact same for the stock rom and it did work... also i did it all exactly the same using now myth tools... so any ideas? Should i leave the phone alone because its just simply not going to work or am i missing anything?
I have root and unlocked bootloader. I did an update of lg and thereafter blocked, do not know if this was the problem.
Install the CWM by room (room enox iodak08 +), I can enter the bootloader, installing, when reboot the sistem entering the boot but does not start with the system and back to CWM after being taken. I can not get into the room and I can get into CWM. I've done factory reset and wipecache, I returned instal to the room, and nothing, enters the boot but does not start with the room.
I'm in a tricky situation, I stopped to have a mobile phone and I stick one paperweights. Need a little help.

Install or reinstall latest drivers from LG and try again when it does'nt work change usb port or try it on other PC.

as I am in CWM recovery, removed the sd card and put a room.zip and flash. Did the installation but when "reboot sistem" back to cwm recovery.

It has been stated time and time again that your must NEVER carry out a vendor OTA on a rooted or modified device. It causes a problem 90% of the time as the OTA has no flexibility to deal with something it isn't expecting to find - so you get exactly what you have.
Just be thankful that it is almost impossible to hard-brick our device or you really would have a paperweight. Instead you just need to search and read a little to get it back up and running.

You need to get your PC to recognise the phone, thats the first step in this repair (unless the usb port is broken, there's no reason why it wont recognise, whats your OS and version, usb 2 or 3?)
why not put cm10.1 on a microsd and flash it from there?

it still won't work, after upgrading it ota while having custom recovery installed, a person will be locked to recovery for some reason (atleast other people were). the only way to fix it that i know of is to reflash a kdz

cmon, pay some attention you don't need to turn on the phone, or boot into the system itself to boot into s/w mode. now, there are tons (like 3 or 4 guides, plus many other topics opened by people with exact same problem like you) threads that tell you what to do (hint: figure out how to boot into s/w mode), so i'll let you search around for the guide.
I suggest using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2682146
It's easier, faster and safer than flashing a .kdz file. (Plus, it tells you how to get into the s/w upgrade mode!)
Greetings from my Nexus 7 FHD!

I think this method also flashes a kdz, but does it automatically for you. But yeah, this one is easier than manually flashing. Thanks for posting it
Also, thiy method will format internal sd card. My suggestion is to do a data/system format from cwm before you go in to flashing a kdz, either manually or automatically, so you don't end up with formatted internal sd card
A big thanks to SimonTS, JoinTheRealms, Flying_Bear and balloon27. This is a fantastic forum and you guys are spectacular. Due to professional reasons only going back to the forum after seven days, I go to the sea and I'm without net. Got this getaway just to thank you for the care provided, the mobile phone is the same and will just touch it after a week. Once again, thank you very much.

Heya guys,
Firstly, my original intention was to post this in the official Galaxy S5 Rooting with CF thread. But I cannot because I have less than 10 posts. It is 3:21 for me, so please bear with me posting this in the wrong section for now and move it to the development forums if necessary.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696537
The problem many of you may be having is that ODIN fails to root your phone, after it says "cache.img". If this happened to you, you will undoubtedly go into a soft boot, with your screen saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" and asking you to connect to KIES.
I have spent many hours trying to figure this out. Unfortunately with my country's expensive internet, downloading 1.4 GBs for a new firmware takes hours, so I have spent the night trying new methods to get out of this soft brick. I never used KIES, and I never attempted to flash a new firmware.
If you're in this same situation, install ClockworkMod Recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2726186
You may be able to tell I am not too big into this scene yet, but installing CWM allowed me to break out of the soft brick, albeit I still don't have root. I knocked KNOXs warranty for nothing, but I'm glad I got my phone to work again (which I got today). By the way, you don't even need to boot into Recovery mode: Just installing CWM got me out of the soft brick, and I have never booted it yet.
I sincerely hope this helps people in a same situation as me. For me it really is a pain to download big things, so I'm happy I found an alternative solution that works. I will probably look for a different root method for the S5 if it exists.
I solved that problem by pulling off my sd card and my sim, my phone is g900h, try that and then try to flash cf root, hopefully it will work.

Thanks a lot man. I also solved the problem by taking out sim and micoSD. Way to go.
Also i think the reason it gets stuck at cache.img is because we are too eager to root and fail to charge the battery. My opinion, i could be wrong.
Hi guys.
I faced the same situation trying to root my phone. ......In fact I tried and soft bricked the phone about 20 times and used Kies to download which is slow.
I rooted eventually via chainfire and installed CWM.....Happiness

You are a life saver man! Installing CWM Recovery helped me to get rid of that screen. Moreover in CWM when I pressed reboot, it asked me to root I choose yes and phone restarted working perfectly fine W/ root! But no permission app was installed hence I installed Super SU + Pro(chainfire) and now everything works the way it should. Super SU even prompted me to turn off Knox

Same thing here. Weird man. Had me sweating a lil bit too....lol.
Had the same issue with it freezing at cache.img
I tried taking out the sim and sd card. Still didn't work. Here's what I did to resolve it:
1. Installed CWM as shown in the first post in this thread.
2. Went into to recovery mode, wiped cache, wiped data
3. Went back into odin mode and tried again with the normal CF root procedure which had previously been stalling on cache.img
This time it worked and phone is now rooted.
Thanks guys! Mur
Tanx
Thanks lots. Through i jus installed odin version 3.09 n tried flash on without d sm. And sd card.. Also make sure ur flash in without samsung usb..
Or you can force the phone to reboot into download mode again and flash cache.img only.
That worked for me, but good to know

Some days after i upgrade my os with Samsung smart switch and it fixed it and I was able to boot in recovery........ After that for some reason i again tried cf auto root and the same problem.. Cant boot to recovery this time it didn't even rooted my phone so i couldn't even install any custom recoveries................ Pls help me out to root my s5 without removing recovery...
Thanks a lot.You just saved my life! Installing CWM Recovery helped me to get rid of that f****g screen.
Hello together,
i used search and the suggested topics but i cannot see the same problem as i have.
Recently i rooted my 4x hd with success (i used Kingo Android Root, as i found here in the forums) because i want to install Cyanogen Mod, installed Rom Manager and downloaded the CWM Recovery (not the touch one, the lates it can find, 6.# or something was it) through that. Then it got installed and finished without error. Of course i gave Super SU right to Rom Manager. Its shown as installed in Rom Manager too.
So the problem starts when i want to boot into the CWM, no matter wich way (through volume down + power or in Rom Manager with the "boot into CWM" option. When i try this all i get is 2 lines in minimal red font on a black screen. I forgot was was written there but it was really hard to come out of that. Finally the phone booted normally. I tried it 2 more times, with same results. I also re-isntalled the CWM over the Rom Manager, it just stays like this.
Whats wrong?

You did unlock your bootloader, didn't you?
If not your bootloader gets screwed and you have to reflash kdz (search for tutorials).
You can't boot into cwm because if the BL is locked, you don't have the permission to change recovery/rom
(not actually permissions I think but easier to describe it that way).
So the recovery is now corrupt and there's no way beside the one I already mentioned
(you can try to unlock your BL but I don't know if it's possible in your state.

Thanks for the fast answer. Makes sense,
In the tutotial i followed that time was unlocking bootloader not mentioned, i didnt do this by hand, no. Honestly i thought this will be done by the root tool.
Edit: found your answer to that, sorry.
Anyway, so can i still do this now or did the bootloader got already srewed on first try when accessing CWM?
Sorry I was a bit incorrect. The bootloader should be fine (at least when you reflash kdz as the stock recovery will get flashed as well). After that you can unlock your boot loader and flash any custom ROM.

Thanks.
I did it in another way, i think it solved it too (probably its doing the same...). I downloaded the LG Support Tool from website and used the Option "Repair Upgrade-Errors/ Behebe die Update-Fehler" without to really know what happens (hehe) and it seems to reflashed some important things, without to wipe any data though. Anyway, the root is gone now but i can go into the LG Recovery at least.
What bugs me a bit is the question if this LG recovery is the standard or if theres still a problem? Because the "recovery" i mean is only a picture with an LG Logo and something like "LG Recovery Mode -- Service Center. After put out and re-insert battery use the power button to keep using the phone."
Is this the real recovery? I had a lot of phones but never saw a recovery like this...

Phone - Galaxy S5,
Android 5.0, as i remember.
I tied to install the program, chose variant with backup in the installer, but now my phone is stuck on loading screen for like 20 mins, showing samsung animated logo.
What can i do now?
Are your rom is stock or custom ? And are you using which recovery ? Twrp ?
Restore your backup.

uhm, well and i dont have a copy of my phone's system on PC or something like that. I'm not even sure if the installer really did a backup.

If i know how to do it! I'm kinda lame in phones and android. Could you tell me something i can do now? I'm currently trying to find some program for PC now, so i can connect my phone and hopefully do something
Even hard reset (Volume down + Home + Power buttons at the same time. ) does'nt works now. i keep getting the loading logo.
It seems you are new to android, custom ROM, recovery etc. and this indicate you haven't took nandroid backup of your ROM to restore it later... Now what you can try is, go to stock recovery with pressing phone buttons combination ( google it according to your phone model ) and do factory reset (warning- it will wipe all your data but may set your phone to boot and work ) ..at least try it when nothing is working

I managed to update my system via Odin program, everything is fine now! Even my settings\apps survived!
Thanks you all for the help.
The problem is solved.

I almost bricked my Samsung G5 (the ATT version with the screwy locked bootloader, I think?) almost this exact same way about two years ago. It took a bit with ODIN and some time on the forums here, but eventually I got it working again. Not fun but I am glad everything worked out for you as well.
To be honest I learned more successfully trying to unbrick that phone than I ever would have had I not royally effed up....
