This method will help you gain root access on the latest .67 4.2.2 update that Sony recently pushed out.
Disclaimer:
- This requires a PC.
- No CWM needed.
- This installs a Chinese root manager rather than superuser or superSU. But I will teach you how to replace it below.
Instruction:
1. Download the rooting application. (This app can root many other devices )
VRoot_1.6.0.3690
http://www.mediafire.com/download/v3...3690_Setup.exe
2. Install the app. This is a Chinese app so I will guide you. Below is a step by step screenshot attached guide.
3. Start VROOT and root now!
4. Now we need to install SuperSU from play store to replace the Chinese root manager called 授权管理 1.0.4.
5. Go to play store and install SuperSU.
6. Start SuperSU and you will be asked for permission by 授权管理 1.0.4, choose 允许(means allow). (Should be the right side option.)
7. SuperSU will prompt to install SU binary, go ahead with OK and it will display successful.
8. Now, freeze 授权管理 1.0.4 in titanium backup, just in case you need it again.
Note: If you uninstall straight away from app manager, you need to make sure SuperSU updated the binary.
9. Re-run SuperSU to make sure everything is alright. You will be prompt again to install SU binary, just do what it asked.
10. After that, you are rooted with SuperSU and 授权管理 1.0.4 will not be there anymore.

Can someone upload an ftf with just the kernel.sin and bootloader.sin for the C5503? I tried creating one using C5502 kernel and i got stuck in a boot loop. luckily my battery was just at about 10% and so I quickly flashed back the 4.2.2 Kernel of the 5503 and all is well.
Once we get the kernel only ftf, can test and create guide for rooting 5503 on 4.2.2

Tried with the C5503 kernel. Same boot loop. I think we'll have to find an alternate root method, as unlike the Z, the ZR doesnt have .234 firmware [that is also 4.2]
Experimenting with the Z firmware. Wish me luck
Why not flash only kernel from the previous firmware? Isn't working?
UPD. I see - not work

I have rooted mine already (ie. Android 4.2.2). You have to unlock your bootloader for this method to work.

Firstly you need to unlock your bootloader. Google that, its easy. OR you can do it through flashtools (not tested).
Enable USB Debugging and unknown sources option on your phone before proceeding.
Download Flashtool, Open it. Flash the the kernel of an old firmware of Xperia ZR which was rootable.
Reboot your Xperia ZR after flashing. Connect to PC in USB Debugging mode.
Do not forget to close FLASHTOOL.
Extract the downloaded “DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip” file and run the “runme_win” file.
Follow onscreen instructions to root Xperia ZR and once it is rooted, device will reboot. Verify that you are rooted, run SuperSU app.
Now switch off your Xperia ZR. OPEN FLASHTOOL.
Now you need to flash the true kernel of Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware of Xperia ZR.
After flashing, disconnect the phone from PC, reboot it and your Xperia ZR is now rooted

So basically you're doing:
Use FlashTool to flash the 4.2.2 FTF
Downgrade the kernel by using FlashTool back to 4.1.2
Run the DoomLord rooting kit
Flash back 4.2.2 kernel using FlashTool
To flash the kernel you need an unlocked bootloader. What I don't understand is how to flash the kernel only? I found the kernel.sin inside the FTF file. Can I just delete other .sin file and flash the remaining FTF file?
Sorry if my questions are noob.

You need to keep the kernel.sin and bootloader.sin in the ftf and delete the rest. Also don't delete the META-INF file.

The problem is the bootloader? I thought doom's thread said that this was for locked and unlocked bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader will lead to a lot of people avoiding the root method.

So is an unlocked bootloader NEEDED for this method to work for ZR? I thought DoomLord said it works for both.

I did manage to root it, but then the phone suddenly restarts. Now I am stuck with bootloops. Strange as I managed to install Superuser from the Play Store.
Edit. I recommend not trying to root using this method. Wait till theres a definitive rooting method.

Yes. I fixed the bootloop issue. Need any help with the bootloop?
If you've got a bootloop, pull the battery asap as once it dies, you won't be able to flash ftf and the device will be bricked.
To fix bootloop [and still not get root access]
1. Open the 4.2.2 ftf file in flashtool.
2. Exclude everything [tick in the exclude box] except the kernel, and untick everything in the wipe box [data, applog]
3. Flash the kernel by pressing the volume down button while plugging in USB cable [DONT PRESS POWER BUTTON AFTER BATTERY PULL AS OTHERWISE YOU'LL GO BACK INTO BOOTLOOP]
4. After it flashes [should take a couple of seconds], reboot and you should be back to normal
I REPEAT PULL THE BATTERY IF IN A BOOTLOOP OR YOU'LL LAND UP WITH ANOTHER PAPERWEIGHT

So again you're not successful in rooting 4.2.2 using the kernel switching method?
i think the kernel switching fix will not work on ZR.. we don't have a rootable 4.2 kernel
i think the 423 kernel is 4.2

It happened to me also, but it's possible to recover from it.
Install PC Companion on your PC.
Go to Support Zone.
First option -> Update phone / tablet software.
You will see a underlined link that says "repair phone / tablet"
Just follow the instructions.
You will need your phone to have at least 50% battery level. Take out the battery, insert again, and connect your phone to your PC via USB while pressing the Volume + button. You will hear a sound coming from your PC meaning it's been connected.
Sony PC Companion then will flash your phone with the latest firmware. It takes a while and you need to have internet connection, but it works.
As you flashed the Russian system rom, the firmware installed in your phone by Sony PC companion will be the Russian Android 4.2.2. No problem with this as it includes all the languages.
Do this as soon as possible as you need your battery charged and you can't charge the battery in your phone while in the bootloop state.

I'm not sure what we did wrong to be stuck in a bootloop, but after my ZR being reflashed by Sony PC Companion I just flashed the Nordic 4.2.2 ROM and my phone remains unrooted until there is a easier method to get root

Hi fellow mates,
Recently I have updated my Sony Xperia Z (Singapore) 10.3.A.0.423 to 10.3.1.A.0.244 and I was previously rooted on 10.3.A.0.423. So after updating the phone, I followed Doom'sLord method which is:
[ how-to ]
Download the three files from the download section below
open FlashTool and flash the XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.A.0.423_Generic_NL.f tf - 7.12 MB file, this is JUST the kernel of an older firmware which was rootable
now once flashing is done reboot device and connect to PC in usb debuggin mode
CLOSE FLASHTOOL <<< VVVIMP STEP
extract the file DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip to root directory on c:\
execute runme_ file corresponding to your OS on desktop PC, this will execute a SPECIAL version of my easy rooting toolkit <<< VVVIMP STEP
the above step is crucial! if you use any older version of the toolkit then IT WILL NOT WORK!
after rooting is over the device will restart
you can verify if device is rooted by checking for SuperSU app (it is the newest version)
once thats done now power down device and open FlashTool again
now flash XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.1.A.0.244_BE.ftf - 7.17 MB file to get back to the true kernel for the firmware
thats it after flashing is done just disconnect and power on device and enjoy rooted phone!

After which, when I switch my phone on to check if it's root. It seems that it has not been rooted and no super user was installed. Can anyone help me what is the problem? I had USB DEBUGGING turned on, Unknown Sources turned on as well. Latest flashtool 0.9.11.0 installed, latest Doomlord v18 easy rooting toolkit. But still couldn't find whats the issue. Looking forward for help. Thank You

Gabriel

@XperienceD
As you had mention, I did follow that 2 steps. After which I had to go to applications and find the Superuser applications, and hit the uninstall button. After that, it was rooted once again. Superuser icon came up, asking for permissions like the usual. Something is wrong even though it's already been rooting. But thanks for the advise. Will bare in mind the next time an update is up. Thanks alot!

Hello, I've tried flashing back to the old firmware from the latest, but it's saying my phone needs to be in usb debug and allow unknown sources, these are both allowed ? im not sure what I can do.
Xperia Z .244 firmware charge issue
Hello all,
I am facing this weird issue with my Xperia Z rooting. I am on .244 baseband but when I tried changing it to the .423 using the flashtool, it didn't change. I tried several times but same results. Thus when I try rooting my phone the script showed not compatible.
Please let me know what can be the problem? Do I compulsorily have to be unlocked for this to work?
facing a problem too, I can not seem to even flash the .423 kernel in flashtool. I keep getting an error saying to make sure debugging in on etc.. And have both debugging and mock locations turned on?? Weird because I have flashed firmwares before on this device.

I tried beta 4 and beta 5 but I'm downloading latest version now
Cheers for your help :good:
Edit: No latest flashtool didnt work in either 32 or 64 with or without pc companion running???
Just to make sure you have everything setup properly and are following the correct procedure, follow this tutorial for using flashtool - How to flash stock roms with Flashtool
If that doesn't help, I'm not sure what the problem is.

Yes as far as I can tell to the letter? I have flashed firmwares before so I'm lost. I have noticed after a failed attempt I lose wifi.
Im downloading the stock .244 ftf and will try to flash that, I'm not sure if I can just flash an older firmware or not.
Thanks again for your help so far
Rob
Edit: after more investigation my phone was actually on .423 but still showing .422 under settings. All good now and rooted

I find solution that can make CWM and Xposed installer working!
After follow all the instruction on my first post, now:
1. Make sure have to tick unknown source and USB debugging (Abount phone > keep clicking the build number until it show Developer options)
2. Open file (XT-lockeddualrecovery2.7.89-BETA.installer.zip) and run (install.bat)
3. While progressing, check your phone and select OK
4. Done!
5. After installing then open app (NDR Utils), select ClockWordMod and click Reboot into Recovery (don't not press volume up or down while rebooting).
*6. If Reboot into Recovery not working, then manually power off and on again, but I think still having some issue there. Sorry if not working
For Xposed Installer:
1. Download from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48484642&postcount=6846
2. Install. Then shut down your phone and power on again.
3. Done.

Shouldn't be a problem with locked bootloader. After flashing (TX LT29i 4.3 295 deodex flashable04.zip), try to flash (XT-lockeddualrecovery2.7.89-BETA.flashable.zip), then (UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.91.zip). Mmm.. and my opinion is not to upgrade to sony official 4.3 JB, because having lot of bugs and the most annoying bug is that will turn your phone off when fully charge. Maybe you can try 4.3 leak from EXR

Mmm.. and my opinion is not to upgrade to sony official 4.3 JB, because having lot of bugs and the most annoying bug is that will turn your phone off when fully charge. Maybe you can try 4.3 leak from EXR

Thanks man i.ve allready try it and i locked the bootloader again and restore the TA backup, i´m testing now with this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2657190 and yes i know about all the bugs on 4.3, personally didn´t see that bug on my phone i leave it all night charging and wake up and its on and 100% charged so there´s no problem there for me, what does really bothers me is the volume bug and low volume system, but with root and CWM installed i guess it can be fixed.
So in order to use this method I should start with rooted 4.1.2? If so unfortunately I've lost root access due to official 4.3 update

As long as your phone is rooted and having CWM, then it will works fine.
Hi. I wasn't able to understand the process of doing this to Sony devices cause I'm not used to all these sub-branches of steps for slightly different variations and software versions, lol, I understand this is a lot of n00bness for you guys.
I have a stock, legal Xperia TX, software version 9.2.A.1.199 and I want to get it to the point where I can flash custom ROMs. What do I do with it? Sorry for asking, I appreciate any help. :]

You can most likely only flash custom ROMs (that come with a custom kernel) if you have an unlocked bootloader; so first find out if you can unlock it.

What do I do after that? I'm following the instructions here http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions but installing CWM and rooting for my device and it's software version is where I'm at a loss.

Before unlocking your bootloader, I'd backup my TA partition which backs up your DRM keys. If you don't do that, you'll lose them forever (AFAIK), which means no more Bravia Engine. Look for "Backup-TA-9.10" in XDA and/or Google. You need root to do this, which means you'd have to go back to 4.1.2, because there are no methods currently available for rooting 4.3 without an unlocked bootloader.
Once you do that, or if you don't care, and you do upgrade back up to 4.3, flash this kernel, which comes with two recoveries, and then flash any custom ROM you want.
Although, if you do go back to 4.1.2 in order to backup your TA partition, then you can easily root 4.1.2, install CWM, and flash your custom ROM from there, no need to go back up to 4.3.
u can use this.. im also using tx
Hello!!! Aha...so you have troubles? and you need help? OK
Dont worry wetry to help each other in this hard situation...
On Russian site 4pda.ru there is a method to hove root, deodex, CWM on JB 4.3 (295).
Follow carefully the instruction below:
p.s. if you now how to get back old SXTX JB 4.1.2 firmware (67), then dont follow my instruction just do it, maybe you can faster!!!!
First of all you need to get back to SXTX JB 4.1.2 firmware (67), root it and CWM (if you have problems with here some steps):
1. Download a SXTX JB 4.1.2 firmware (67) for ex.: this 67
2. extract the zip put the .ftf firmware to flashtool/firmware folder
3. Start flashtool, press flash/flashmode choose you ftf and press flash, when the guide winow popups up turno f your phone, then hold volume down (-) button and connect to PC. After installation let settle up your phone!
Rooting SXTX JB 4.1.2 firmware (67):
1.Extract DooMLoRD...bla..bla...bla folder and start .bat file (cmd) conect your phone to PC and press enter on cmd screen!
2. if everything goes well your must be rebooted (if my memory didnt mistaken) and in app drawer you will see Superuser shortcut.
CWM for SXTX JB 4.1.2 firmware (67):
1. Extract CWM4XperiaT_v6i_JB.
2. Conect your phone to PC and start the .bat file which inside CWM4XperiaT_v6i_JB folder then look at your phone and press "OK".
Once you get rooted, CWM SXTX JB 4.1.2 firmware (67) here is the steps for TX 4.3 root & deodex for LB
1. Go to CWM and do all wipes (data, cache, dalvik)
2. Flash TX LT29i 4.3 295 deodex flashable04.zip. Dont reboot!!! Stay in recovery!!!
3. Flash UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.93.zip. Dont reboot!!! Stay in recovery!!!
4. Go to Advenced menu and choose Power OFF!!!! Dont turn on your phone!!!!
5. Start Flashtool and press flash/flashmode then choose Xperia_TX_LT29i 9.2.A.0.295 USA kernelonly.ftf, press flash and when the guide window popups up conect your phone to PC with holding Volume Down (-) button.
6. boot up your phone!!!
Now you have Root 'n' Deodex
CWM installation
1. In developer options on your phone check on the "USB debugging mode" (if you dont know how to enter to dev. opt. go to about menu in settings and tap around 7 times the build number stroke!!! then go out to settings and the dev. option will shown upper about menu!!!!)
2. Security menu check on "unknown seurces"
3. Extract XT-lockeddualrecovery2.7.89-BETA.installer.zip, then conect your phone to PC and start the .bat inside folder!

Hi, wondering if anyone can please help me.
course of events:
1) original FW rooted with bin4ry.v32
2) 14.2.A.0.290 rooted with NUT's method
3) 14.3.A.0.757 updated and rooted also with NUT's method; tried to do Advance Wipe in TWRP (with everything except for Ext. SD) but had 'failed' error so ended up with just a 'general' data wipe, went OK. Then flashed the 14.3.A.0.757 FW ok (from Ext. SD). Using flashtool to flash the stripped 14.3.A.0.757.ftf, went OK. booted up the phone with .757 no problem, however noticed that freshly installed apps were some how already configured and setup even though I have not set anything yet. I figured maybe it loaded up the data from .290 hence, the data wipe may not be done properly.
4) 14.3.A.0.757 again to see if the issue with the apps will rectify, however, still getting 'failed' error with TWRP Advance Wipe. I ended up 'format' data and tried TWRP advance wipe......again, 'failed' error! Tried to deselect USB-OTG, surprisingly Advance wipe was 'successful'. Then flashed with 14.3.A.0.757 flashable.zip again, this time it flashed pretty fast. so I proceed with flashtool, went well. rebooted and got stuck at Sony Logo. COULD NOT get back into TWRP to reflash.....ended up having to reflash 14.3.A.0.757 using Sony's Update Service app (SUS). Everything is ok, phone is working fine. However, I cannot go into recovery mode to flash with TWRP to root anymore. I noticed that when I press power, it vibrates once......Sony Logo.....Xperia logo and wipe screen. It doesn't vibrate twice anymore when the Sony logo comes up.
any suggestions?
Thank you and sorry for the long thread. Just want to be as precise as I can.

Try again doing these steps.
1. Reflash stock rom.
2. Downgrade by flashing 14.1.G [ NUT ] (android 4.2.2)
4. Use bin4ry's Root and restore. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
5. Flash NUT's dual recoveries. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606
6. Download 14.3.A.0.757flashable and stripped FTF.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711982
7. Put 757flashable.zip on your SD card or internal memory.
8. Disconnect USB from phone.
9. Through Windows, put the FTF in flashtool's firmware folder
10.Reboot phone to TWRP's recovery (on the green LED press volume down)
11. Through Recovery flash the 757 zip.
12. Don't reboot, go to the menu, click power options, select power off.
13. Insert USB to phone while holding volume down.
14. Flash the FTF file.
15. Celebrate.
There's probably a shorter way to do this, but this is what I did and my phone works fine. If you want to deodex visit this link: https://mega.co.nz/#!WgwRDQDa!UlO0Vx3FEHODmB8dUgmf_24cHpQ-6O6_zf5zhGpfktI. Wipe dalvik-cache after flashing the deodex file.

1) how do I reflash stock firmware, which firmware? Also how, using flashtool? Sony Update service software?

5) Should I delete the old dual recoveries currently on my ext sd?

1) You re-flash stock firmware by going here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_d8uWGbkaetRWdmQUZ4WlJ6WVk/edit?pli=1. (Link provided by xperiafirmware.com) That's assuming your model number corresponds to the file. If you have C6902 or other, don't use it. Google it.
2) Yeah you use flashtool. Click the thunderbolt icon, click flashmode, then select 14.1.G. Should say [NUT] under branding.
3)Root and restore is the name of the application provided by bin4ry. You have the option to root your phone along with restoring it back to un-rooted state. That is ran by "RunMe.bat".
4) When you run the .exe, it'll automatically put the recovery files. Make sure your USB debug is turned on and you accept Root access (superuser request).
Again, this could probably be cut to less steps, but this is what I did.

As for dual recoveries that were on your phone, those will be gone when you flash the stock sony rom. Remove the recoveries off your sd card just in case and add the newer recovery files through the .exe or .bat from NUT.

Hello,
I have my ZR (5503) rooted with 4.4 the bootloader is locked. Since I am not a dev or something i want to test it first. I tell what i did if a dev want to know how i did it.
I had a ZR with 4.1/rooted/recovery on it.
I used a 10.5.A.0.530 NCB file for to start.
I followed this guide (thread) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2307311
Almost at the end you have to flash the created zip in recovery. After that i flashed the SuperSU_fix.zip and update-SuperSU-v1.86.zip (i dont know if it was needed).
Then i switch the mobile off and flash the FTF file (10.5.A.0.530NCB) with system excluded (flashtool).
After this i boot in 4.4 and then checked if i had root and it was. The recovery was lost but i managed to get it back with the ZRDUALRECOVERY
Now i go to do the proces again and make a tutorial and maybe put the files somewhere.
I am happy already,
Try to use the Remount reboot fix by nut

[Stock ROM][LB/??][4.4] Pre-Rooted 10.5.A.0.230
Hello,
I found a way for to get root with kitkat 4.4 and a locked bootloader.
Try at won risk! I am not responsible for things that go wrong.
what you need for to start :
working recovery and root 4.1, 4.2 or 4.3 (i had a 4.1 android version)
Flashtool
steps:
download :
zrkitkat5503.zip https://mega.co.nz/#!DYZwTRhL!6kYealPTKNZT_YX7Zgp3gvs6BP7dcBcVa7FyZBw72qg
stripped rom 4.4 : https://mega.co.nz/#!2YZn3LyB!JKCaBQdMpkqxiO6UbbsXeF3aNgvaoe9Z6iNEERCF7aY
Update Super SU: https://mega.co.nz/#!LEIwGDCS!KVxVB-wYlClhblPY-g5MQ71D_7U2acd7hwwqAxJj20c
Recovery: https://mega.co.nz/#!GIpWEJjJ!0gEIZawEwKuvmEZ4LQm-4ZCmduoy7kxwxDLSResqvUQ
copy kitkatzr5503.zip to your external memorycard.
unzip the su-binary fix and copy it to memorycard.
boot in recovery and wipe cache partition, wipe Dalvik cache and wipe Data/Factory reset.
flash the kitkatzr5503.zip and after that flash the su-binary fix.
DONT BOOT!
power off and get your phone in flashmode , flash the stipped 4.4 rom with flashtool.
reboot and you will have root, install zrdualrecovery again and then everything works.
for sure someone else can make a more nice way for to install it but this works. And if someone make a better tutorial let me know. Also i dont have experience with MEGA for file sharing. If there is a better way let me know.
succes

Hello,
I found a way for to get root with kitkat 4.4 and a locked bootloader.
Try at won risk! I am not responsible for things that go wrong.
what you need for to start :
working recovery and root 4.1, 4.2 or 4.3 (i had a 4.1 android version)
Flashtool
steps:
download :
zrkitkat5503.zip https://mega.co.nz/#!DYZwTRhL!6kYealPTKNZT_YX7Zgp3gvs6BP7dcBcVa7FyZBw72qg
stripped rom 4.4 : https://mega.co.nz/#!2YZn3LyB!JKCaBQdMpkqxiO6UbbsXeF3aNgvaoe9Z6iNEERCF7aY
Update Super SU: https://mega.co.nz/#!LEIwGDCS!KVxVB-wYlClhblPY-g5MQ71D_7U2acd7hwwqAxJj20c
Recovery: https://mega.co.nz/#!GIpWEJjJ!0gEIZawEwKuvmEZ4LQm-4ZCmduoy7kxwxDLSResqvUQ
copy kitkatzr5503.zip to your external memorycard.
unzip the su-binary fix and copy it to memorycard.
flash the kitkatzr5503.zip and after that flash the su-binary fix.
DONT BOOT!
power off and get your phone in flashmode , flash the stipped 4.4 rom with flashtool.
reboot and you will have root, install zrdualrecovery again and then everything works.
for sure someone else can make a more nice way for to install it but this works. And if someone make a better tutorial let me know. Also i dont have experience with MEGA for file sharing. If there is a better way let me know.

Can I just flash the stock 4.4 FTF and unchecking the system instead of using the stripped rom you have provided?
Yes you can as the kernel in the picture expresses the version of the 4.4 version of android
I already done it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765062
