Unlocked bootloader and new firmware - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, today ihave unlocked and rooted my friend's xperia z, and i got software update in PCC, can i update it or should i go by installing it via flashtool?
thanks

You can't update or restore the Z via PPC or SUS.
So you'll have to use Flashtool or EMMA Flashtool.
But why go through the hassle of unlocking the bootloader if you will keep stock firm?

Sony Pc companion software update

Have just tried to run repair my phone through the sony pc companion. it detected my phone ok and downloaded the firmware. When it tried to install the firmware it failed saying my phone was running modified software and couldn't update. Is this because I unlocked my bootloader?
If it is, is their a way around the problem?

Once you unlock BL, Sony will stop bushing update to you and support.
Use flashtool to flash a stock firmware

It is lame that you can't even get an update through PC companion to return to stock. I can understand not doing ota. I don't care about warranty on Sony stuff, their warranty process sucks

I would dissagree. My XZ died (soft brick) and there was not any other way than service. Warranty covered it. They saw intact BL, they told me. If it wasn't, well...

Update to 10.A1.434 failed

Hi all I recently tried updating the FW on my xz but when it restarted, it said that it failed to install. I tried to install it twice but failed both times.
The bootloader has not been unlocked. And the phone has been rooted.
Can I update using the pc companion?
Thanks for your help

Sorry, I'm new to all this android flashing since this is my first Android device (came from ios)
If I download a 434 FTF and flash it, will I lose all my apps and app data?
And can I flash in recovery, or can FTF files only be flashed using flashtool?

You can't flash FTF files through recovery. Using the flash tool you can keep data and settings or you can wipe them if you wish.
Awesome! Thanks for the swift replies guys. Will give it another try on updating later

Update .434
Hi
I have seen this update on the SOny website but my phone (C6603) will not recognise the update, I have tried PC companion and the web route and no luck. Can anyone advise or help to establish why I have not received the update OTA also?

Probably region specific. I saw a post about it last week regarding 434 being pushed to some devices. But I only got it today. Maybe just wait a few more days!

[Q] Still not got 434 OTA?

I'm on Three UK and still haven't got the new OTA of 101.A.1.434. It's a C6603 and it's rooted with a locked bootloader. I don't know if it's just my carrier being slow or what cause everyone I know who has the Z is on a different carrier... Any ideas? Even the sony pc companion says im up to date when im still on 101.A.1.350. Thanks in advance.
I'm also on three UK
Its just them being slow.
Press thanks if I help helped

I have the same phone I just installed manually the debranded 434 firmware
Three is well know for delaying or never releasing firmware upgrades.
Just debrand the phone. You won't need to unlock it.

Once debranded will I get OTA's from Sony rather than via three or...?

no ota, pcc or sus update to .434 here
Thanks for all the help. I simply flashed via flash tool without wiping data and I'm now on 434!

Indycar try with PC Companion or if possible with Mac bridge. Mine was updated with Mac Bridge, OTA didn't show anything before . After that you will get some application updates.
wooohooo finally update (checking every day)
Crap updated and still on 350

This is the result of an unlocked bootloader. Sony doesn't support you via SUS when you have a unlocked bootloader! This has nothing to do with root! You can flash the latest firmwares for different regions (FTF's) using flashtool! So no probs mate! By the way, you would have lost the drm keys by unlocking your BL which results in that you have LOST your bravia engine!
Try to read dev section if you wanna know more..

[Q] I can insttall update

I have xperia Z, i get new update 10.3.1.A.2.67 , download, accept instalation, but phone only restart and show mesage software not instaled, you try later
I try with Update service, but message is something like "you have modified software"
sorry for bad english
Thanks
Hey there, u have removed some google apps or something like that. Your only option is to install from desktop program.
If you have unlocked bootloader or rooted phone with some system modification, you cannot update with sony's update software.
Use flashtool to update or emma.
