[Q] Chromecast and automatic updates - Google Chromecast

Hello everyone!
Simple question for the devs tinkering with chromecast: Does chromecast do automatic updates? Im afraid to even connect my newly purchased dongle to the net out of fear of loosing the capability to root/mod it. Thanks in advance!
See this article in this site that mentions this possibility: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/chromecast-secure-boot-exploit-and-root/
"One thing to keep in mind, though, is that this security hole could be closed with any update at any time, so it’s likely not to be available for too long."

From the update announcement:
"The update will roll out over the next few days and will happen automatically; users do not need to take any action."

If u don't connect to the net then you have a 35 piece of plastic. It doesn't work without the net people.

Since when has Google ever discouraged rooting a device? I can't imagine they'd ever lock it down.

It is already "officially" out on the market, but it does not support the Thunderbolt yet. That is the reason you can't find it if you do a search.

I'll never understand that either. It should of been one of the first few devices supported. But I guess that hideous Casio phone is more important to them!

Because LG has been working with Netflix since 2010 to make this happen. Why? Because that's part of their strategy to help sell their phone.

Its still a 4G device.
im dying to flash to gb just for this app... i can run away and hide at lunch and watch a good show
This whole thing has the smell of an "exclusivity" type of thing to get the LG Revolution off to a good start in terms of sales. Correct me if I am wrong, but the LG is the only 4G phone that has Netflix right now. I assume they did this so it can get a decent jump on sales to compete with the Charge and Thunderbolt... and then when the aura of it wears off, they will make it available for other 4G phones.
If I guessed, I'd say this is why its on lower end phones and older models... but not the Thunderbolt or Charge.
Just notice that the netflix app is in the market place on the thunderbolt and it shows up under supported device...I tried to run it on my stock thunderbolt and I got a drm error...I just hope this means gingerbread is almost here

I have both apps already! :O How do I keep forgetting to boot people at school!? Someone magically acquired the 64 character randomized WiFi code, which as since spread like wildfire since 3/4G is less than reliable in our huge, brick triangle of a building. I can't wait for tomorrow! This should make a classroom of 30 laptops interesting...

I don't think I even know how to do that! But I did scan the network...700+ devices at any given moment. That check all box was tempting, but that would surely land me in $#!+ about 20' deep. Not worth it. I did test it with our robotics CADD teacher (with permission) and it worked great. Although, the only thing I don't like is that it shows only the manufacturer and IP/MAC addresses. I wish it would display the computer name.
I had to go cmd -> ipconfig to get his IP and then locate it in the list to block it. Also, a sorting by IP would be a great addition.

Anonymous VPN

Does anyone know a good and anonyme VPN provider?
Tried to google a lot, saw that Sweden WAS safe, but
for now I'm lost!
Just for some personal use, no criminality, but it needs to
be safe! I prefer OpenVPN and a possibility to use on a
smartphone (iPhone and/or Android).
I find this quite offtopic, so hope it's ok to ask this question

Of course the CEO just said it was a possibility not that there were plans to do it. We've heard that before.
Well I tried out the hulu+ streaming some movies to the chromecast and for the first few minutes for about 5 seconds eaxh time it kept having to buffer. But after the few minutes it streamed it smoothly and without adds.
Next watched a tv show and again in the beginning it did the buffer thing for a few minutes then got better. Then a stupid commercial would come on, then after it would go back to the show and again start the buffering every 10 seconds or so for a couple minutes, then smooth out. So it was USEABLE but not very enoyable. When I have streamed movies and shows via netflix I haven't gotten the buffering issue. So HOPEFULLY it is the hulu app that needs some fine tuning in future updates. Just wanted to pass the info along.
