I think you mean AOSP. Yes there have been several bricks. The CPU gets stuck at 1.7 gigahertz and it destroys itself.
So far, we do not know what is causing this and we do not know who is susceptible to it. Try AOSP roms at your own risk just be aware that anything can happen.
Occasionally check your CPU governor to make sure the frequency is 1.7 max and 300 min.

AOKP is based on CM. AFAIK
Anyway, this is not a "known issue" and is not receiving any attention from devs. If you tell them about it, they'll probably laugh at you.
It'll probably be there forever. I would stick to GPe and sense Roms.
Just be prepared to pay $200 to HTC if you don't disguise root or a deductible for insurance if you have it.
Just install a CPU tuner and keep a CLOSE eye on it. Make sure it doesn't get stuck at 1.7GHz.
Also, switching ROMs won't help once you notice the overheating. Its like the plague. Once you notice the symptoms, you can try and restore a backup, wipe cache, etc. But it'll eventually just die. Some people reported bridge while running Sense ROMs.

I want to chime in that this isn't always the case. If you have a bad Sprint store, you're usually safe if you can't fully revert back to stock. With my store, I actively left the *TAMPERED* and *UNLOCKED* in the bootloader and left Supersu on the phone. They had my phone for 5 hours and never figured out what any of that means so I didn't have to pay for a refurb (a brand new refurb ). Now, I know they could have just let it slide, but believe me - these people are really stupid. Like, incredibly dumb. That is one of the worst stores I've ever been to.

As far as we know, yes. 10.2 may be different, but we don't know that for sure.
It has been broken and is still broken. Who ever told you it was safe was wrong. A "general consensus" should never be what you use to decide "hey I am going to flash this on my $600 phone"
Until an actual cause is found there will never be a solution, unfortunately those with experience and know how seem to not give a care.

Exactly. Until or unless a Dev publicly addresses the problem with both a cause and a solution, no amount of negative confirmation will satisfy me.
And I know that's from my Sig, he he.

They Defy has a mod (specifically a boot menu) that has a feature called '2nd Init' (Read up here) it basically bypasses the first init process and enables you to load up anything you want (better quick explanation?)
This mod that the Defy has has enabled it to have some pretty awesome stuff running on it (CM7, with Gingerbread 2.3.3 obviously). It's strange I have never seen this mentioned on this forum before except for the Defy and I want more people to be aware this has already taken place on the Defy, another locked bootloader phone. Anyways, if this gets ported then we could possibly do whatever Quarx, over on the Defy forum, did and port CM7 to the Atrix. There was some similar talk started when I made a new thread "CM7 for Defy" on the general forum, but I wanted to make sure that a decent amount of developers got to see this information, so I made a new post here.
Would like to see if this would work on the Atrix

Valid question. I don't believe it's 2nd init. Or at least not like the 2nd init on the Defy.
BTW guys, I tried the Defy 2nd init bootmenu (decided to use the apk that installs it all automatically) aaanndd..it bricked my phone. An sbf flash fixed it though.
So anyways, it is now known for sure that this needs to be ported in order to work. Someone PLEASE look into this. I am almost positive that this IS the method that will be used to install custom ROMs on the Atrix in the future. The actual bootloader has no chance of being cracked IMO. But we can get almost the same results with this.

not nearly the same result i was on the sony x10 before i got the atrix and this is exactly how it was when the bootloader was locked we could flash custom roms but all it did was add new simple features. fps caps overclock and many other goodies are kernal related.
BUT i guess having this would be better than nothing at all just dont get overexcited then be dissappointed. also i believe its harder to develop like this than with an open bootloader.

No, this is quite different from what you are thinking of. It does allow custom kernels. The Defy has FULL cm7.

I'm fairly certain it'll work, actually, although it might require some tweaking. But, at the same time, I'm fairly certain it'll break webtop. To me, webtop >>> CM. I'm sure others feel differently. But you'll need one of those other people to work on this, because otherwise, 2nd Init ends up pretty low on my priority list.

If the recovery weren't signed and verified, we could flash an alternate recovery and not have to worry about any of this bricking non-sense.
In other words, it is very easy to make these devices effectively brick-proof, but we are unable to because of their silly restrictions.

I'm tired of people bashing on these devs hard work, they have given so much and all you all can do is say how unstable the ROM is, if you don't like it don't use it. Because of your greediness it appears camcory has left, he will not receive messages and his most popular ROM thread has been closed. From now on if you run into a problem with a ROM, state the problem, not you personal opinion about the ROM. Why do you all think jocala doesn't dev anymore?

That's fine what you're saying but again, this is where I have issues. If all people want to hear is how great they are or their work is always perfect they are doing it for the wrong reasons. People who do nothing but praise are called "fanboys" and don't contribute any useful info. If people are name calling or trashing somebody's work that's different. Anytime I mention issues I am always specific with what they are.
I have mentioned my gratitude many times but if that's all that people want to hear these forums are useless.

This has been a problem on XDA for as long as I have been a member. There are a lot of people who just complain, or constantly say " fix it, fix it, fix it." Not everyone does this, but many do. Too many people forget that the Dev's are not obligated to release a rom or to even update it publicly. They do this for many different reasons. I agree state an issue, but part of the problem comes when an issue is overstated because people refuse to read. There is no reason to mention an issue 30 + times. Same goes for the questions that get repeated. Too many people want someone to come running to their aid. We were all noobs at one time, we learn by reading posts and trying ourselves. I just recently reread the rules and all of this is talked about there. I always appreciate our Developers and the work they release, even if it never leaves Alfa stage. I also appreciate the members who take the time to help others and offer good suggestions on a fix, or workaround. We should all keep in mind this question, if I were a Dev, would I want to deal with this?

Some people respond with "2 weeks" when ETAs are asked by another user, which is considered a major faux pas. I do agree however that when ETAs come up no one should respond. I also don't think anyone should be bashed however it's hard when you get some who just flat demand things and act like a Dev is asleep at the wheel or negligent for not posting a fix or update. It's hard to believe people actually will say stuff like "when you gonna fix it, huh?" Yes, that kind of English too.
It's like a hundred dswaggz going around asking them to fix the problem (originally he asked for ports, hey just saying XD)
not all noobs are bad
I think this place is great! I haven't posted much because I'm not a dev. I have little to contribute other than my testing experiences and the occasional $5.
A year ago I would have told you rooting is pointless and custom ROMs are dangerous, but I've had a hugely positive experience with XDA and the roms these devs have released. Given the wide user appeal the site offers,(remember this is something for free, rare these days,) you can't hate on the people that don't get it.
It seems like XDA draws both those that have the open source mindset, and a very small minority of people that have no idea how a cell phone works, or could change a tire for that matter. They don't know what kind of time and effort goes into software and they don't care to know. These are people that can't help themselves. They see something cool and they want it.
Remember though, this is a small portion of people, so a better statement here, I think would be "occasionally, one of you is greedy."
Just my 2 cents.

We've got at least one phenomenal dev (Jmz) working on this phone, so I would expect to see CM at some point. The kernel was just released, and prior to that, there wasn't much that could be done other than the stock rom. Despite that, he gave us Sense 4+. I don't want to speak for him, and certainly voicing a request is the best way to show interest, but I'd say be patient.
All that said, I cannot wait for CM!

Way more than 4, but based on your responses I will get further having a conversation with my 2 year old so I'm not going to take the time to link all the bricks.

short answer: no
the rest of you can talk all you want. but people are no getting hard bricks anymore
ive been running paranoid android for weeks now, as with countless other people running other aosp roms
i could care less what you guys wanna think or say
im the only one who answered the question correctly.
truth/fact/what?
I finally bit the bullet and flashed a Pac Man nightly a couple days ago. I only tooled around for an hour or so before flashing back to d3rpOne though.
Way too many soft bricks lately, but I feel like the earth-shattering-brick days with CM/AOSP are behind us.

I am aware no official fix was ever found, I was asking if anyone had bricked in the past months.

In the past months is a fairly broad net. It seems to have quieted down as of late, but as always it's a "at your own risk" sort of deal. It certainly doesn't hurt to check some of the suspected problem spots if you do flash though (such as your proc min/max frequencies).

Yes, I know of 1 brick. NOTE: Brick is not a term I use when a moron wipes their internal storage. Brick when I use it means the device does not charge, power on, hboot or anything else.

Hey tool read the entire post and response. I know of one a month ago, that right there is valid enough. ALSO he did not specify a time frame in the original post, just if it was still a "problem" so yes it is a problem. You are a worthless cook and a tool, anything you say has no credibility, anybody willing to listen to you deserves anything and everything that happens to their phone.
