Hi All !
I wanted to make a ftf file for Xperia Z. I copied three files from the folder C:\Program Files\Sony Mobile\Update Service\db\13740270\blob_fs (last modified without icon files) siZed 737mb, 15.6 mb & 631 kb to a folder named source files as found in the guide to prepare ftf files using flash tool. The problem is the ftf which I am getting after going through the complete process is just 48.2 mb !! I am sure there is some problem but I am sure I did go with the right procedure. The flashtool version I am using is Flashtool v0.9.11.0. Please let me know your response..
There should be 5 files to start with.
Follow this guide to download and create an FTF -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311211
That method definitely works with no need to create source directories etc.

Hi there !
I have only 3 files starting with the name FILE. I don't have 5 files with that name , moreover in different threads I found we only require 3 files.!!

Older threads might have outdated information that doesn't apply to the Z. Which guide are you following?
The guide I linked to has current, correct information that definitely works 100%. I have created 2 different FTF with that method myself and others have also used that method successfully.
I would start the whole process again from downloading the software and follow the steps in the thread I linked to. You can ignore the part about changing customisation version if that isn't required.

Repair your phone again before creating the ftf, maybe you have deleted some files from blobs folder.

I'm confused! For I did not delete any files and got 3 files in the folder.. updated this week to the new version so must not be a concern of incomplete files but I'll go with your words.. I'll try to repair the phone through pc companion and then will again try to make a ftf.. I'll get back.. thank you

I just created another ftf as a backup for the rom that is on my phone and to check how many FILE_********* were created.
There were 5 FILE_********* in the folder and all went fine. A 769MB FTF was created.

Try sony update service not pc companion.

Hello everyone I have another problem ... as described in the guide, I downloaded and installed from the pc DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v17_perf-event-exploit.zip and [NUT]'s definitive remount-reboot fixer! (0.93MB), both extracted and executed by pc (to remount-reboot fix I ran a test with both files, both superuser.bat both supersu.bat), then I installed Build Prop Editor, I modified the fields with 1270 -3964 and R1A ... deleted the folder db on pc companion and I tried to reinstall the firware with the restoration ... the problem that when the smartphone restarts to install PC Companion crashes saying no is not availab aggiornamnto available ..
Hi!
Even though i have a nandroid backup of my current state it would feel alot better to also have an FTF file with my current configuration. Is this possible? All i can find is how to make the file with a clean install.
This is what i usually do to my PC when i have it setup with all drivers and software... make a ghost image... so I am hoping it is possible with this phone.
/Kolipko
No you can't.

That was unfortunate... guess i´ll have to do with copying my entire phone to my pc instead and keep the ftf i have downloaded for my region just in case. Thank you for your reply :good:
I need the 2.67 germany vodafone (or generic germany)-FTF but can't download it via sony to create it on my own with flashtool because my bootloader is unlocked... Google didn't help and there is also nothing at xda...
Does anyone have a link?

Not released yet in almost all country's. Only Spain has released it till now. Why not just install the Spanish version? It still supports the German language

Edit: you are right @kingvortex, should have checked my facts better.
So according to that thread it is already available for Vodafone Germany. Try using pcc to download and use flashtool to convert it to ftf yourself.
Here is a guide to do that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075736
It works the same for xz, although that forum is for different Xperia's
It's not true at all that only Spain has the 67 update.

That's not entirely true, you CAN download the firmware, just not install it via pcc. I create my own ftf's always that way.
And I'm unlocked too

I don't know how you guys do it...I tried sues: says "you modified your device" and wont download anything...I found a sony software called emma: it needs a developer login, so I registered yesterday but I still wait for sonys email (checked spam)...
All the guides I found even write "required: locked bootloader" in the first lines...
how the heck can you guys download it?!
//////////////////////////////////
My thread about optimizing the battery life of Sony's Xperia Z: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2382712
The Emma program does not need special access, just a file which states you are a unlocked bootloader user (a .ini file)
Download the Flash tool for Xperia devices.
Unzip the file you downloaded and place it somewhere on your computer.
In the unzipped folder, run Emma.exe. During the installation, make sure you remember the installation path:
Default path in Windows 64 bit is: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Mobile\Emma\”
Default path in Windows 32 bit is: “C:\Program Files\Sony Mobile\Emma\”
Copy the Customization.ini file. You find it in the Flash_tool_for_Xperia_X.zip.
Paste the Customization.ini file into the installation folder. The installation folder is the folder named Emma in the installation path examples on point 3.1 and 3.2 above.
Click Start > All programs > Sony Mobile > Emma (if you used the default installation path from step 3 above) to start the flash tool

Anyways, I always use 'Sony pc companion' for downloading, since this first downloads the data, and after downloading requires you to reboot (wich i don't even bother to do since i'm not using PCC for flashing ), this way they can't check you have 'altered' software.

Edit:
In SUS you should choose repair instead of update, or else it won't work
edit 2:
THIS tutorial was the first tutorial i followed when i started learning to make my own ftf's.
it also states you DON'T need locked bootloader.
Just had this flash up this morning, anyone else downloaded it yet? Any big changes?

You can follow this guide from part B , be sure to hit the thanks button for the OP of the guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334653
If you can get the FTF then that will be great, upload the file then i can either import into Mega in the FTF thread or i can do a link to your upload. Either way you will be credited for helping in the FTF mega collection thread

Doing it now. Thanks for the pointer
Hmm followed the steps this morning but the resulting file was only 70mb. Assuming something has gone wrong somewhere along the line so will try again later.

Annoying because been flashing roms since the HTC Tytn / Hermes days without a hitch (touch wood).
I'll just blame windows to feel better about myself until I have time to try later.

Flash a stock FTF with Flashtool and next time backup before messing with your system.

That's why you make a nandroid backup before messing with /system.
Anyway, does the recovery you're using have a file browser? If so, copy a home apk across manually. I don't think there are any provided in flashable format anywhere.

Alright, I've fixed it installing nova launcher through CWM, now I need default home apk, could you direct me to it if you know where can I find it ?
Look in the cross device development section or extract it from a rom zip. As you don't say which firmware you're using then it's hard to help.

Oh, forgive me, Stock KitKat 4.4.4. I just wanted to get Z2/3 clock, which is nicely designed and home application was a little bit newer, so I screwed.. Now I will now that I need to flash entire rom to get this. By the way, my ROM is fully deodexed by Rajeev.
Extract the home apk from the rom zip that you have.

I don't have that rom in my computer anymore, I don't know how to extract that file from it either :/
Then download it again, open the zip file and find the home apk. I can't give you mine as I'm on an odexed rom.
When you have it, you need to copy it to /system/app and set the permissions rw-r--r-- (0644).
