NEVER happens to me so I doubt 4.2.2 will remedy for ya. Maybe look into other avenues to resolve this issue
I don't know what else it could be. Others with different devices hold their connection from the same location while mine drops. Whatever the case, it's getting old. I'm done talking to Sprint about it as the answer of "we are working on the towers right now“ doesn't work for me. If they were truly working on them the guys I work with would have the same problem.

The main reason I want 4.2 is so I can play with non-daily driver ROMs without dealing with the SD card when I go back. Anyone else?

That's probably the only practical reason.
tommason1968,
I know exactly what you are talking about! I had a thread complaining about the same thing. Took my phone into the Sprint store and it failed "once" a test and they gave me a new phone and the exact same thing happens to my current phone. Can't go down the street (or even sometimes sitting still) and I lose data connection. Listen to streaming radio on Tune-In and it cuts out constantly. Used the Scout (Telenav) GPS and always got "There is no cell phone coverage / Now there is cell phone coverage" during a trip to Wisconsin and Mississippi this month.
Heard the excuse that the towers are being upgraded and that is the reason service is so poor. Almost tempted to say well put that in writing so that I can go to another wireless company without an ETF.
Came from the HTC LTE and never had so many drop outs. Yes, there were marginal spots that I would lose service, but in the past I have made it to Wisconsin and back without dropping service once not to mention 50 - 100 times, so like you think it is directly related to the phone. When you take the phone into the Sprint store, they are like well nothing what we can do, or well that is a lot of work and doubt we will find something. It is tempted to reactive my old HTC LTE and see how it does because I know where the marginal areas are at and the areas that are not marginal that I still lose connectivity on a constant basis with my HTC One.
Just wonder if like the first I-phone made of solid shell, that the metal casing isn't affecting how well the phone does in the terms of the ability to connect and stay connected to the cell towers.
For me, it's gotta be the way ZOE clips will be captured as a single video file instead of 20+ images. Each time I take a ZOE clip all those 20 pics get backed up on my G+ cloud.

And the charging speed. And the quick toggles. And hopefully the focus on the camera. And the OS efficiency.
I've managed to get rid of all the lag by turning off all animations. I just need better battery life. Everything else has been promised.
I just want the added features of 4.2.2. I want quick toggles, lock screen widgets, etc. And the added battery percentage and what not.

EQS and percentage are already available on Viper and HTC will not incorporate lock screen widgets.
4.3
Who cares about 4.2? 4.3 began rolling out to the Google Experience/Play HTC Ones a few days back which has a functional IR blaster! That, with CM's new camera and this phone is going to be pretty awesome, pretty quickly.

I'm with explicit. I like the aosp toggles much much more along with HTC's version of the battery percent. Also, the update will come with lockscreen widgets. They already have the implemented in the Intl version.
I for one am pretty stoked about this update. It will include everything that I like in aosp plus it will have IR.

Just ribbing you, but seriously-- I cannot stand how it looks in the slightest. Native quick toggles are also one less app needed to replicate functionality, which is nice if you're trying to keep things slim.

Yeah. I think that the EQS are stupid looking too. Just wanted to make sure it was known that most of these features already exist in some form. I love the Holo style EQS, though. In the meantime, I'm using Floating toucher. Its pretty cool.
I'm more excited about the camera improvements. The number of pictures out of focus is too damn high!
I expect that it will be the only update released for this phone.

Good one
I'd be willing to guess the 4.2.2 delay is a Sprint issue more than an HTC one.
I personally am not even excited about the 4.2.2 update anymore, due to how long it's taken and now that 4.3 is out.

I'm not excited about either one. I have a Nexus 7 with 4.3 on it and it doesn't look/feel much different from when I used CM on my LTE. There just isn't anything to really worry about other than the kernel.

All,
I was able to update my locked/stock Vivid to ICS using the RUU. Everything went well after locating the appropriate Windows 7 drivers. After using it for a couple of days, here's some random thoughts and questions:
In Gingerbread I was able to download an HTC battery widget from the HTC Hub. I can't find it now in the updated (ICS) version of the HTC hub. Am I just missing it? Not a big deal since I have Beautiful Widgets installed, but the HTC version matches the overall Sense theme better.
When using static wallpaper swiping between home screens does not cause the wallpaper to scroll. I thought it did this in GB, but I might be mistaken. Is there a setting somewhere for this?
Rearranging the lock screen shortcuts isn't intuitive. After a bit of trial and error I had the light bulb moment and realized that they are using the shortcuts on the launcher for the home screen shortcuts as well.
Speed! This ROM is fast, even for an arguably bloated stock offering.
Sense 3.6 is a bit of a disappointment after seeing the clean look of the Sense 4.0 screenshots. It strikes me as odd for them to offer (and then have to support) this interim version. The hardware is capable of 4.0 (speculation on my part) so this leads me to believe HTC/AT&T just want to differentiate between the One series and not cannibalize sales.
I'm loving the new home screen folders. Much more polished looking than Gingerbread
Bluetooth is performing better under ICS than GB. My wife noted that the call quality when paired to my Pioneer AVIC Z110BT car head unit was slightly better now. Less echo, but still not great. Likely a head unit problem more than the phone - the AVIC units are notoriously bad for BT performance.
Overall a very positive upgrade! I must admit I was shocked that AT&T would get this update out so quickly. I figured they'd drag their feet until after the launch of the One series if not longer.
-Brett.
I agree with you about it being a positive upgrade but I wouldn't exactly say AT&T got it out, I think credit for that goes to PirateGhost. AT&T from what I understand has only sent it to one person that we know of. I wonder what will happen when AT&T actually does try to push the upgrade in my area?
When I run the "AT&T Software Update" from settings, I get an error message, "Server Unavailable." So, AT&T is not yet putting out the ICS update, at least not in my area. IF and when they begin, it probably will take some time to get it out to all users.
I suspect the version currently in the wild was released for a little field testing to see what happens.
The AT&T update told me that my software was up to date right before I flashed ICS, so the update definitely isn't out in my area yet. When I got my phone on 2/25 the guy at the store told me an update was coming in 'a few months.'

Are you using an image that is wider than a single screen? For instance, I'm trying on of the ICS default background images as found here. It's wide enough to scroll through several home screens but for some reason it's not scrolling.

That battery widget trashes battery life by polling the battery percentage all the time.
so far so good
I have been running on ics since the first night it was available and I think it is fairlly smooth and fast. Everything seems to work well but when i try to check for software it dosent do anything. But I am greatfull to Pirate and all who made it possible. I hate to see the devs going for sure. This seems to be a descent device for real and I hope we can get the dev's rolling again.

I hadn't considered that. Do you know if the holds true for the Beautiful Widgets battery widget? I would assume all battery widgets use a similar polling mechanism.
Does it make a difference if it's not on the main home screen? I would hope these widgets would be smart enough to only update when in view.
Thanks,

Good point. Was it ever determined if this was a test version or the final product? Any reports of anyone else getting the update OTA? The version number being 4.0.3 710RD does seem to sound different than other versions I've seen.
Thanks,

I went the RUU route and rerooted my phone to remove all of the bloat. To be quite honest I like it a bit more than gingerbread simply because it boots faster and manages the ram more efficiently. While the transitions between flipping through the sense pages is smooth, the touchscreen feels a bit "sluggish" compared to gingerbread. Sometimes it's downright not responsive and it takes an extra swipe to register my action. It might be an isolated event on my end but if it's not I'm just giving a heads up. Sense 3.5 runs well and it's still too soon to tell for battery life. I'll edit this post in a week after I give the rom some time to settle and get used to ICS a bit more.

I just checked and no. Now that you mention it I do remember a scrolling image but I can't remember the circumstances around it. Maybe it was a live wallpaper.
This seems to be the final test version sent to the carrier for approval. The official release is likely a couple of weeks away because it takes carriers about two weeks to sign off on it, unless they find something to change.

Google needs to fix the Nexus 4 bugs fast
My state-of-the-art Nexus 4 phone has some major issues that aren't just frustrating - they're embarrassing. The camera will often stop working, especially when used in low light or after taking lots of pictures. I was out for a Christmas dinner with friends last night and we asked the waitress to take a picture of the group. I handed her my phone and ended up red-faced because the bloody camera wouldn't work. I also had the camera freeze with the flash still lit up on numerous occasions last night. How the hell did this get through testing? This isn't a one-off - it happens *every* time I try to take lots of pictures. I expect the camera to work.
Can you imagine the furore if the camera on an iPhone did this? People would be foaming at the mouth.
And the camera quality is pretty poor with many shots out of focus and terrible red-eye on others (with no red-eye reduction mode available) and none of the fancy new image filters can fix it. Yet I'm pretty sure ICS had a red-eye reduction filter.
And I also have a WiFi issue which means my connection speed will drop from 40MB to around 2MB for no reason. I have to toggle WiFi off/on to clear it. Rumour is that it's a problem with the WPA2 encryption used by some routers but I have yet to prove this myself and all our other devices are fine, my Nexus 7 included.
And this morning the phone rang and I couldn't answer the call because the buttons on the incoming call screen simply didn't work. It was charging at the time which I expect is the issue but even so...
In my humble opinion Google needs to get a 4.2.2 update out that addresses issues like this quickly because right now I am seriously considering selling this device and getting something else.
I am not your beta-tester Google. This just isn't good enough.

I feel better now. Sorry if this thread sounds a little selfish but I expected so much more from a Nexus device. My 2011 Xperia arc S might of been a bit laggy but at least it was 100% reliable.

That's just the price. The actual specs could be considered state of the art.
I'm not sure why the 350 price tag seems to give people a sense of cheapness. This is what a high end phone should sell for. Instead companies **** all over the little people of the world by inflating the price by 300% and lots of times more. Google is merely just sticking it back to those companies and also marketing their ecosystem...

I've had some times where the call and lock screen are unresponsive. Usually there is a home and back button at the bottom for seemingly no reason and I have to hit ”back" to get back to the state where I can use the lock screen.. I'm guessing this is causing the call screen to lose interactivity sometimes as well. I'm suspecting issues related to lock screen widgets/extra functionality/Google Now as none of this used to happen on previous revisions, it seemed to start when that feature set was introduced. I also accidentally bring up the camera from the lock screen which gets annoying, but that's more my fault in the way I pick the phone up sometimes if I "pry" it up when it's sitting against something. Annoying, but whatever.
I have had no camera issues specially yet, though I haven't used it extensively only occasionally.

I love how HTC used to get so much **** for having a laggy UI with Sense. I was one of those who kind of hated on Sense and really dissed it. Now I have noticed TouchWiz has become the Sense of old. Bulky, laggy, and way too big for its own good. Kind of funny how the two companies have done a reversal. I used to purchase Samsung devices just to avoid the lag of Sense and other UIs. Every video review I have watched, the reviewer has complained of lag on the S4. For once I will actually stay with an HTC device until my next contract renewal. I feel it was done right. One thing that isnt fair though is that nobody seems to be giving Samsung the hard time HTC got about their overbloated UI overlay. What gives?
Oh, and the classic "The reviewer or people posting negative reviews and comments about the GS4 are paid by HTC" wtf, really? If someone doesnt like Samsung products they are assumed to be crazy and must be getting "paid off" to post negative comments? That's really unfair and childish of them to say. Anyone else noticing unfair biases?

I noticed that as well. Sense 5 is smooth, man. I haven't had any lag, outside of me messing with governors and such, and I've read several reviews that say Touchwiz is kindof laggy. People aren't going to give Sammy any **** though because they are the top dog. While I'm glad they are android (for now) they are in the position that Apple was not long ago...nothing they can do is wrong even if it is. It's a little annoying

I like AOSP ROMs and all... but Sense 5 has some killer features that I wouldn't want to give up.

Not necessarily. Sense 5 has started becoming a little more transparent, and show's a lot of stock Android in it. I'm happy with it.

I agree. I've always preferred Sense in any iteration.
but I know that once some AOSP ROMs come out I'll flash and play as I'm a flashaholic.

Well of course there will be some testing. I'll have to flash a few ROMs to see what each offers. I wouldn't mind checking out Paranoid Android on here. :good:
agreed, the only thing i want in sense is quick toggles! i used them all the time on my GS2. Luckily the mod is already out for this. That and the MMS compression fix. Other than that its pretty impressive out of the box.
But yea when will we start seeing AOSP stuff? I know the phone is only out for a wk or two but I'm looking forward to seeing the development section start to fill up.

I believe there are people working behind the scenes on some AOSP stuff. One problem would be the new SoC Snapdragon 600. I don't think there is a reference device running android on this platform yet.
I'm really diggin sense 5 in general. Blinkfeed is awesome.. I always had a currents widget on my furthest left screen anyways.
One thing I dislike. Is that the app drawer still scrolls gingerbread style. I'd like it to be paginated.
And as for quick toggles like i've seen in a few posts. We don't want quick toggles! we just want the 4.2 update. Then it should be pull down on left 3/4 for notifications. Or the right 1/4 for the toggles that are just built into android now. The quick toggles of the past are pretty ugly in comparison.

I guess by paginated you mean horizontal scroll instead of vertical. I too find this odd as Sense 4.0, 4.1, and 4+ all had horizontal app drawers.
I also like this, but what I have done is make folders and put the apps in there so I only have one page.

Used to have it in Sense before it was even an Android thing. Best part of my EVO 3D.
This is the first phone I can say I may not even want to put an AOSP rom on.
Why don't the do landscape Rosie for Christ's sake?

The folders in the app drawer has been something I really like that I wouldn't have thought I would. Now I am down to 3 homepages instead of 5 or 7. Would be nice if they could hold more apps per folder but it still makes my app drawer so nicely organized.

Because eww.... No matter how cool it is, widgets and stuff just do not align very pretty. Surely you will get your fix with a custom rom.

Yet again, the US, Sprint, and CDMA totally cockblocks me from getting an update.
Never buying CDMA phone, ever, again.

From the sounds of it you should never buy a U.S. based phone again. The only way you will get these updates before U.S. carriers through official means is with an international variant. Yeah you can probably find hacked up versions that allow the update early but those usually come with their fair share of issues and most people end up still wiping and placing official updates on anyways when they finally come out. If you for some reason ever thought CDMA would get updates early you are far from knowledgeable about how this stuff works. That said, of the U.S. Carriers Sprint has the best record of updating first. Thank you for another useless rant post showing people what little you know of the smart phone ecosystem.
It's only been like this for like........ EVER!

QQ no update... How many of these are people going to start? Stop crying and go get an iPhone... Apparently updates are a new feature that makes phones more fun.
QQ We are not going to get Key Lime pie this year. Can't wait to get this update to go from Jellybean to Jellybean qqqqq
SHUSHH
Friggin barbies i swear.
That part was just my personal opinion. My main goal was to simply share the news / story.
There is only a handful of things that I'm really looking forward to, quick settings and the one lock screen widget that we get from 4.2. The quick settings has been solved thanks to the great ROMs that we have here, and just because we haven't received an update yet doesn't make our phones any less functional than they are.

It isn't really anything 'new'... everyone already knows how the updates work.
Um... Hi just thought I would pop in and add another useless comment have a good day
Edit: I just got Comcast today. Made the switch from centurylink.. 40mbit to 50mbit. Went from downloading games at 4mb a sec on steam to about 7. So far I like it but kinda annoyed with how wireless N routers can't handle the speed. Gonna have to buy an AC router..

Just want to start off with our leaked official 4.4.2 24A update may or may not be a final release but why not start having some fun.
With anyone using the new Kitkat stock rom, please post any bugs, issues, New features, changes, etc.
I think I've picked up that the proximity sensor isn't as goofy as it was on JB. What about audio or compatibility issues? Did they fix the Exchange Push Email bug?
Any new features you find? Post em here.

A couple of things I noticed off of the bat is that Knock On works every time after two taps. Isis does not work with root. There are a couple of games in this build: Andrio, deBlob, and a few extra apps that I can't remember right now (trying to keep root during this flash!). Overall it seems way smoother, but with few visual changes as expected. I'll report more findings later.
There is tap and pay now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I like the transition animations are aosp speed now

I refuse on principle to use Isis, after what was done to Google Wallet.
I can't seem to get the hotspot hack to work.

Yea I hate Verizon for stripping a core feature and try to make everyone pay for it. AOSP WiFi sharing is easier anyway. On the flex rom, the LG version was good too.

Smooth, not a jittery animation yet.. The touch response isn't as hyper-sensitive. My compass direction in maps is accurate after a couple slow spins(always 180 off in 4.2 for me)

Don't know if anyone else posted this yet... But with 4.2.2, the included emoji font that was shown when using a keyboard like SwiftKey was monochrome and hard to read. On kitkat, it's a huge improvement - gorgeous color, and it appears to include more choices. Very nice!
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
I noticed when you lose a data connection the 3G icon in my case since I was in a rural area the changes to a faded color and the up and down errors below disappear, which is quite different from 4.2.2.
I haven't noticed the GPS thing on 4.4.2 yet, but it affected me on 4.2.2. The odd 180 direction created many weird directions thinking I turned or going the wrong way. I travel a lot so that is a big plus.
There seems to be a lot more bloat in this one. Lots to disable between several amazon, Verizon, and other 3rd party apps. I did see a VMWare remote desktop app in Running apps. I don't like that one bit. I'll have to get Root Explorer to really clean some of those out.

Being new to Verizon, I'm not used to the abundance of bloat. I'm a little nervous about just deleting most of it because I have no clue what it's tied to, what it might break. I am disabling a bunch...but it's ridiculous IMO.
It is a bit much but that's carrier politics for you.
If your unsure what is safe, your best bet is to do exactly what your doing. I've deleted something on 4.2.2 and started getting a popup animation error every time I plugged in USB or headphones.
A "Kit Kat Debloat" thread would probably be a good idea.
GPS is solid on 24A. Much better then being redirected all the time. I just drove 1.5hrs and was never asked to get back on the highway or do a U turn in the middle of a busy intersection.

I think the only thing I noticed so far other than what has been mentioned...the settings button on the notification pulldown has been moved up top as well as the date and time.. Fixed a minor annoyance there. It seems much faster, but still looking through for things that may be different. Also, the GPS icon in quick settings is gone (replaced with location?) and the annoying icon in the statusbar is no longer there.
Edit*** anyone know if there is an issue with Kit Kat and Adaway? Can't get it to work

working well on mine.
When using GPS, instead of the ugly old GPS icon, I'm seeing a Google Maps Pin when location is being used. Pretty icon.

can't believe I didn't notice that before! That was my least favorite icon up there. Just need to get rid of that NFC icon, next...
I think the thing I've noticed the most is the auto brightness seems more responsive. Also have not had any speaker issues like reported on other devices getting Kit Kat. I have added Viper and Xposed. Time to start deleting some bloat. Mabe start freezing first in Titanium BU.?

You're probably going to get the plug and pop error (when you plug something into the usb port) when you add Xposed...I know I did.
This fix doesn't work anymore, it has to be updated: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549002
Just tried my OTG cable, no pop sound. Maybe a setting in Xposed that I'm not using.
