Htc one Low memory - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My stock HTC one, if im correct had about 28gb usable memory. After rooting and flashing custom ROMs and doing a few backups, my memory has dropped to about 19gb usuable memory. I've deleted my backb ups and mostly everything I have is in the cloud . I am wondering what has happend to the rest if the memory?? Am I not doing system wipes correctly?? Any help is appreciated

Using a root explorer, check the total size of your /data and /sdcard partition(In ES its long press > properties). How much space are they taking up? Also, have you checked in /data/media for duplicate files?
Also, ES File Explorer has the ability to list all the biggest files on your /sdcard so you can see what's taking up space.

Deleting system files

Is it possible to delete any files in the system directory? I can save close to 16 megs if delete the ring tones/notification tones/alarms that I'll never use. any advice?
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
Yes it's possible, but I don't think it will do you any good. As I understand, internal memory is in the data partition, and deleting files in the system partition doesn't give you any more space in data...

So what can we delete to free up space for apps?
Download and use a script to move apps and cache to your SD

As mentioned, your best bet is to move stuff to the SD card.
meh... i guess that's our best option. thanks for your help.
just saw this post#11 which has some possibilities:

sdcard & sdcard/0

Hello guys,
i got a Htc One since one week now.
I got a vodafone version and flashed the ARHD 12.1 rom on it.
I think i was first on Android 4.1.2 and the ARHD got it to 4.2.2.
If I'm looking in CWM-Recovery I got now two sdcards - sdcard (with my old files, e.g. the Android_Revolution_HD_One_12.1.zip) and the sdcard/0 with all other files I copied to the phone.
How can I delete the stuff on the sdcard? It seems that this is unused space because all my data get on sdcard/0.
I think this is due to Android 4.2.2 multiple user service?
Delete or move files from /sdcard to /sdcard/0 with any file explorer.

Tank you. I user Solid Explorer but can't find the sdcard partition. If I go into sdacrd I'm automatically in the sdcard/0 partition.
After searching i found this: mnt/shell/emulated
There are all the files... so that should be right, right?
And the /storage directory?
Edit: Jup sounds ok. You can also backup all your data and do a wipe sdcard in recovery and put eveylrything back
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
In storage directory i got this:
-emulated -> Internal Storage, Internal Storage (both show the data from the sdcard/0)
- Internal Storage -> the Data from sdcard/0
- usb -> empty
Ah ok, the idea with the wipe is great
I will do that! Thank you for your help!

Internal storage

Hello, these days I ran into strange problem. Internal storage says there is only 2 GB available from 16(yes I know its not exactly 16gb), but I don't have that much files. I ran cleaner apps, used sdcard analyzer in Es explorer and nothing shows that can use this space. You can see on screenshot that only 26% is held by Android folder but lower you can see that 10gb is used. So what is taking this space? Also there is no hidden files or folders and my PC shows same. I'm on succulents CM 11 latest build.

A 16GB device has a little under 13GB left to share between /data and internal sdcard. The internal sdcard is actually emulated and is a part of /data (/data/media), that is why it is shared. And I'm not sure about succulent's CM11, but I know bokbokan's CM11 also mounts his ART cache in /data, taking more space.
You can see by your graphic there is just under 13GB there. Much of it is used by /data and probably the ART cache. Look in /data with your root file manager to see what is taking space.

Thank you for your answer! It seems in data folder there was files from internal SD when I was on stock! I wondered why cm installing wiped it, but it seems that it just saved it /data/media

A data wipe with CWM does not wipe media files in /data/media. You must go to mounts and storage and format 'data and datamedia' for that to happen.
And CM11 puts media files in /data/media/0 so your file manager would not see the old files.

[Q] "Other" is 20gigs... HTC ONE

Out of 25.* GB of storage I have, 3gb Using the storage tool on my phone, it shows that 20gb is listed under "other"... this has happened before and I used directory scan in ES file explorer, and found it was some games cache doing it, but I can not figure out how to do a root scan with ES..
I have done the SD card analyst and it only found one file over a gig and it was my ONE TWRP backup..

Why you are worried apps store there files in sdcard. They are important if you wipe files using any cleaner it is possible that some of your apps will not work.

Other files are which are not stored in the default folders. You know our phone makes some default folders like- DCIM, MUSIC, ANDROID, WALLPAPERS. Apart from these folders everything is considered as other files. Move your music and video files to the default than you will be seeing decrement in other files. Try it I am sure about it.

With ES in root-enabled mode, can you check /data/media/ folder
reason:
in 4.1.2 /sdcard = /data/media/
in 4.2.2+ /sdcard = /data/media/0/
so you may have "leftovers" (needed or unneeded) in /data/media/ which didnt get moved to /data/media/0/
(and these won't show up on your PC, only with a root-enabled file explorer)
Here is mine:
the 0 folder is your sdcard/internal storage, so dont mess with that,
the others are pretty much empty
you should check if you have any large folders in there (except 0), a good example would be CWM backups, which are stored in /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/
or possibly other files that weren't moved to 0 (your sdcard)

[Q] NEWBIE-ISH????? Nook16G HD CM11M...Only Able to Use 1/2 Internal Memory

Hi guys!
Newb question that I'd never normally bother to post to the forums, would just buckle down and do the research myself. Sorta under the gun here tho, going on a trip very soon and want to use this device at optimum. Everything works Great! The thing is, I'm only able to access half my internal memory for storage. Perhaps I messed up during install? Wrong PIT? (can't remember if I used ODIN).
The question is.....is there a quick fix( perhaps using an ODIN PIT) or do I have to wipe everything and start fresh? No biggie, maybe someone can tell me where I messed up, provide a link, some help, info? I suppose I can wait 'till I get back and do due diligence, but would really like to clear this up before hand.
If anyone needs more info please ask
Thx XDA!
Odin is for Samsung devices, not the Nook. And probably your storage problem is because you did not delete your media files from stock and those files are now hidden in a folder you can't see. You can use a root file manager to see if that is the issue. Look in /data/media. If there are files there not in the /data/media/0 folder, those are left from stock. You can manually delete those to get your space back. And of course you know that you should not expect to see much more than 12GB on the 16GB device. The rest is used by the system.

Thank you for ur reply
lol too many droid devices...yes odin is for Samsumg, thx. The problem just reminded of a PIT error.
Under /data/media/0 folder, folder is empty. Using Es explorer rooted and access granted. I really think this is being recognized as a 8g device, partitionwize..............
Dude tell me the files you need to bug....will post.

What about the files above the 0 folder directly in the /data/media folder? How much free space do you have shown? Are you really sure it is a 16GB device? They do come in 8GB versions for the HD.

device/data/media has the 0, cwm, legacy, obb folders. totaling a few gigs
Well, well..............this could be the case. It was given to me as a 16g and I rooted that and a samsung device over the Xmas holidays. Hence my confusion with ODIN, was celebrating the season and imbibing Disk Usage app is showing consistent memory with an 8g......5.5g storage, system 661mib, rom 47mib
FCC ID#XHBNTV400-A. Is this a 8g model? Am I correct at discovering my own stupidity? If so, mods, please bin this thread to mitigate my embarrassment
