Hi,
Android 2.1 doesn't support the newest facebook app, and you can't really use Facebook in a webbrowser because of too old certificates in 2.1 (You will get certificate errors). Try:
1. Read much articles about rooting, flashing, moding and and and...
2. Search online for a user-friendly rooting guide for the X8
3. Root phone
4. Search for a user-friendly guide for installing ClockworkMod on your device
5. Install ClockworkMod
6. Search a stable and fast Android 2.3.7 (Gingerbread) ROM which will work on stock kernel (for example: GingerDX)
7. Install it via CWM (Read in the ROM thread how to flash it)
8. Make sure your date is right
9. Search for Facebook in Google Play
Good luck, Androthan

what rom do you have? if it donut than you might need an older version of the apk... maybe
My guess is you don't have a compatible version of the Android OS installed. You said you have a rooted G1, what custom ROM are you using? If not you cannot install the current version of the youtube app. You probably are either not running a custom ROM at all, or you are running one that is older then Android 2.2... That's the minimum for the youtube app.

I was using data2ext4 from TGF and I never lost something from it even if I've flashed alot of nightlies. The point is that, flashing a new ROM does not wipe data2ext partition (only if you format it yourself). So if you don't wipe before everything should be preserved including data2ext. Eventualy you should re-enable data2ext by using ADB command : "data2ext --enable".
What I usually do is just flash the new ROM, flash after that TGF's script and when I boot I have data2ext4 active and all content is there. If you use a different data2ext then I don't know. You should ask the developer of that
What's the best way to get unlimited app storage on Cyanogen 7.1?
I'm using S2E and it seems to work well, but I don't know if it's the best or fastest way.
is there something better?

Rc4b commes pre-overclocked, did you overclock cm7.1 to match clockspeeds of rc4b before testing?
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
Hi Im using the older version - not RC4 - sorry.
It's manually clocked down to 600MhZ with setcpu.
I'm sure it needs some tweaks - I'll give it another try. It's cool that it's possible to easily switch between the OSses -thanks to Clockwork Mod! ;-)

Hi,
Sorry about that coz I am quite new on android and juz bought a cheap second hand legend phone...
I had installed this ROM and the speed is quite smooth...but when I launch the android market, it says that I need to add an account to the device to continue...then, I proceed to go to Account under Settings to add my gmail account but it only allows me to add an Exchange account only...is there anyway for me to add my gmail account?
Thanks.

Install CM7.1 WITH wiping data/factory, then your problem should be gone
Some details. I has nandroid backup of my user data All required operations (and maybe more than) was been done: wipe all data n factory reset, wipe dalvik n battery stats. After installation I try to restore user data from nandroid backup, but unfortunately something looks like wrong. I have been compelled to reset all to factory defaults and restore all my data manually. Twitter apps still not starting on my clear system. I am
After CM full re-installation problem is being solved.
Hi, I have one question about Google and Google+. How to remove the files in our custom rom before flashing the rom? Ya, we can delete it using root explorer but I love to know which apk/files contain the twos apks. Thank's.
Google+ isn't necessarily an apk in the gapps package so google+ won't be there in the custom ROMs and I'm not sure if Google Now is a thing that can be removed as it is an exclusive feature of Android 4.1+ . Not sure though. :|

He wants to disable google search, i don't see any way to do that except not flashing gapps at all which isn't desirable. I'd be glad if you can help him disable google search if possible.
If it is a TW ROM then just pull the apk's out of system/preload...

I guess it all depends on the ROM - I have two different devices, on one the Search is a system app (system/app/Velvet.apk), on other it was installed via Play market (data/app/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.apk).
Generally if the apk resides in zip file, it can be removed before flashing (I usually clean ROMs from all apps I don't need on my PC using WinRar), the only problem could be finding name of the apk file to remove.
Yes you're right, the name of the app is where the problem resides as I did check the frameworks folder of the ROM. It's ROM specific isn't it, and tampering with an app like google search can surely cause some unforeseen errors too. I don't see any reason why google search has become such an undesirable app for the poster!
Not sure how it works for stock-based ROMs, on my N7000 I have Slimbean, which comes without Search - it can be installed from the Market separately if someone needs it
Sent from my GT-N5100 using xda premium
Slimbean has gapps of its own, customised for the ROM which are available on their site. The gapps on goo.im which are prescribed by some other ROMs come with the feature of google-search.

in this case it should be enough to remove "QuickSearchBox.apk" from the zip file before flashing
This removes Google search altogether or just the search box on the home screens which cannot be gotten away from the settings options in certain ROMs?

Not sure, the search box may be a separate widget, you could check with Root App Delete (enables/disables system apps)

Hi, XDA. This is my first thread at the forums.
I've always been able to watch YouTube videos from my Incredible S, but since i flashed, and upgraded from HTC Sense to MIUI V5, I haven't been able to even visit YouTube's own website with Chrome, Firefox, default browser, and not even the actual YouTube application by Google themselves.
I haven't modified the ROM in any way, and one of the first things I tried to do when I got the rom, was to watch a YouTube video.
Since I don't have 10 posts yet I can't post links, but if you Google "miui v5 incredible s" it's be the first link you find.
What can be causing this, and is YouTube somehow blocked with this custom rom?
I'm really not wanting to change my ROM because I love MIUI V5!
Thank you for your help, and patience.
I had some issues with apps not connecting (Facebook, YouTube...) when I tried this rom.
I fixed it by deleting all the lines in the host file using a file explorer with root access, then reboot.
If this doesn't help, well like someone would probably say : use search function in MIUI thread.
Good luck !

Hi Guys,
I recently updated my LG P970 to Android 4.0.4 (rooted) and I installed Instagram from the Google Play Store however when I try and upload an image it will allow me to crop it but when it comes to selecting the filter the image doesnt show up and when I try to exit the app freezes. I done some searching but found no direct answer. I tried installing an older version of Instagram (3.4.0) however when I try to login it just tells me to update to the latest version.
Any idea on how to fix this?
Cheers!

Hi! You did not do it correctly.
Step 1: update it to the latest instagram and login using your account.
Step 2: install the apk file of 3.4.0 version of instagram (the OB will ask you if do you want to replace the file that is alrrady install, just hit ok). After the install, thr instagram should work again.
