Losing recovery... - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got a little problem. Every time I flash a mod or change my root access permissions to any of my apps , I lose my recovery. I can't work out why...
Phone specs
4.2.2 (423)
C6603
Unlocked to any network
Locked boot loader
Heres the low down of my root apps...
CWM Superuser
BusyBox V1.20.2-jb
ROm toolbox pro
CWM ROM manager
CWM Backup manager
Root Brower.(the one that has a folder icon with a pirate droid in it)
I'm rooted using Doomlords method (the latest one) and using ZX Dual recovery.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?

Define "latest" one, because if you're using 423 you need the last one.

Ummmm.... Pass on that. I just downloaded it off Google, can't remember the site, it said it was the one to root the 4.2.2.

[Q] Get rid of superuser permissions

Hello, i have a Nexus One, Android 2.2.1, build FRG83D.
I bought a 2nd hand one, it has installed te Superuser permission but seems not rooted, i mean i tried several tools like titanium backup, that need root acces and they didn't get it.
I tried get root acces with universal androot, it says that its already rooted, i try to root it again, it fails.
Im wondering what can I do, I was thinking in flashing to a original rom, not cooked, but im not sure if i need root acces to do that.
How can I delete Superuser permissions and root the phone properly?
I'm new in android and I'm getting a little lost here.
Thanks in advance.
Now I'm just a noob myself with this stuff too. It sounds like u got it 2nd hand if so I would find an ruu or what ever is required to get ur phone back to original out of the box state. Then try again. But make sure to get one that is rootable because I have seen ones that aren't.

Since you're on FRG83D, you can root with this method:

Ok. I'm going to root it, and see how it works. Then I supose I will install a cooked room 2.3.3 as long gingerbread its not easily rooteable.

You probably are rooted. However, some root apps (like Titanium Backup) require busybox to be installed as well as being rooted (otherwise those apps will give you an error saying you are not rooted, even though you are). Just install busybox from the market, and you should be fine.

You don't need to flash a cooked ROM if you don't want. Just flash a pre-rooted stock ROM, like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968396

I suspect it was rooted, but got an OTA update at some point, losing root, but keeping the Superuser apk and possibly even su and busybox, but without the necessary privileges...

Then you are not rooted. You just have the Superuser application installed on your phone (does not give root access). Re-root like danger-rat indicated.
EDIT: danger-rat beat me to it!
Just Rooted my phone, following the method danger-rat posted here.
Thanks a looot!

Locked bootloader and xrecovery

Hi guys, I have tired unlocking my bootloader and ended up bricking my device. Even tho its 9w not 11w+ ..anyway I have fixed it and its working and rooted now. But I need help making xrecovery or any recovery work. I have latest 2.1 with baseband. 015 and tried putting the files on system/bin and rebooted nothing showed up when clicking back rappidly. Can any one help? Thx a lot

Why dont you use flashtool to flash another kernel. Other kernels already have recoveries installed with them and you will be able to flash better ROMs but only if you have unlocked the bootloader in the end. Did you unlock it or is it just rooted?
btw you have to install busybox aswell.
read this thread very carefully and beware which package you download.
I couldn't unlock cuz I got bricked while trying. I need to install recovery with my locked bootloader. Is that possible? Gonna check ur link now

Hi, how did you fixed it?? I have the same problem...
LOL.......you cant have an x8 with 9w.. cause it was released in 2010!!
are you sure you putted the 3 files?
Xrecovery.tar
busybox
chargemon
maybe you can downgrade it first dude..
then you can restore your file if you've backup files..
root your phone with SOC or Flashtool
click the padlock icon
afterthat install the root explorer by file manager
OR
copy paste these files (busybox, chargemon, xrecovery.tar) on system\bin after install rootexplorer

Cwm recovery disappeared

Every time I install cwm recovery and I flash anything it disappears

This happens because the recovery actually is not associated with the kenel/bootloader.
It is actually installed on the android system. However, you can avoid this by flashing the recovery again after each time you flash an new rom.
Before you reboot, for sure.

I was going to say that, but the OP states he is on a stock rooted rom, therefore it hasn't been lost because /system was overwritten.
It is true, however, that the recovery I linked to is the only one that works after the first time booting into it on stock 423 roms. If you look in the thread for CWM for locked bootloaders, you will see people complaining of the same problem as the OP.

If you're just installing mods with it, then it shouldn't disappear. If it does, then report it in the thread.
If you mean it disappears when installing a custom rom, then that is normal.
It says this in the OP of the dual recovery thread -
[QUOTE ]
When installing custom ROMs:
Be sure to flash lockeddualrecovery2.5.1-RELEASE.zip after installing the ROM and before you reboot, this way you will not lose recovery![/QUOTE]

no it disappears after i mount the system permissions as writable and reboot
of course i know that i should flash the dual recovery after i install a new rom
but this happened before with cwm and twrp
Firstly, (from what I am reading in various threads), the versions of CWM and TWRP available in the development section do not work properly with 4.2.2 and will definitely disappear after a reboot in 4.2.2 based roms.
Have you installed version 2.5 of the dual recovery, as that is required for 4.2.2 roms? Earlier versions will also disappear after a reboot, I believe.
If so, have you manually updated your version of busybox? This can stop the dual recovery working according to what [NUT] Says in his thread.
If none of that applies, go report it to [NUT] in the dual recovery thread. I'm sure he will be happy to help.

Over in the thread that lists roms, firmwares, kernels and tools there is a section for recoveries. Some versions use a windows program that writes the recovery to your phone, and some have an apk you can just install recovery straight from your phone like an app. Id reccommend that one (XZrecovery. Apk) first as its an easy one click solution, then you can flash any of the other recovery zips if you want a different one.

I created this thread so that newcomers can get answers on the spot from experienced users who know the answer to their problem. My sp stuck in boot loop
Hi guys, Please HELP!!!
So I rooted my phone a while ago and it was all fine until yesterday, when I changed the boot animation, stupidly, I forgot to rename the original boot animation zip so when I downloaded the new one, They both had the same name. Not realising this I went ahead and restarted the phone and I'm guessing the system did not know which one to use and is stuck on bootloop, is there any way out?

Heya there!
Did you make a backup of your ROM in a recovery? If so, boot into recovery and restore your backup.
If you don't have a recovery and didn't make a backup, the only way out would be to flash stock ftf file for your specific phone (C530X, area/region) using Flashtool by androxyde. THIS METHOD WILL WIPE EVERYTHING except your external SD

Hi, if they both had the same name then the system would've simply overwritten the old one and put the new one in. If you have a backup of your rom you could extract the original bootanimation and use a flash-able zip with your original boot animation. Or just download another bootanimation that works with sp and then just flash it.
Hi,
I own a C5303 and running on firmware 12.1.A.1.205. I would like to know what are the tools I need to root. I am aware I need to unlock the bootloader as I have some experience rooting other android devices. I have downloaded flash tool but I couldnt somehow get into the bootloader. I would like some suggestions for what firmware to use and the process to root. I did not get the latest OTA update(12.1.A.1.207) from my carrier (Virgin Mobile Australia). I have also experienced the annoying screen brightness changing from time to time.
check first that unlocking the BL is possible
Do this by going into the stock dialler entering *#*#7378423#*#* a window will open
Proceed to press service info then configuration and you can find out under rooting status if it says no your BL cannot yet be unlocked (like me). if yes you can unlock
Phone must be powered down to continue
To enter fast boot to unlock the BL press volume up then while holding it plug in the USB into your device if done correctly greenlight will appear ( do this when flash tool tells you to connect your device.) Process will ERASE internal storage so backup and DRM keys will be lost so backup those as well think there's a thread for that somewhere. Good luck phone will reboot afterwards
Hey, I want to change my GApps package which has been giving me FC's since day one. It's been a month now, so I don't wanna wipe and start anew. Any Ideas??[emoji4]
I'm afraid the only way that I know of is to wipe and start over.

Yes.
Something not mentioned in the thread was if you use flashtool to unlock your boot loader (by pressing "BLU", " Unlock Boot loader" then enter the unlock code) it is much easier and will automatically backup ur DRM keys so if you want to relock (BLU, Unlock Boot loader, there will be a new button saying relock boot loader and the unlock code will still be entered) the DRM keys will be automatically restored.
This is for some versions of Flashtool by Androxyde... Not sure if its for all.
