My wife and I recently picked up a pair of Incredibles, so the next obvious step is to invest in the required accessories. We've already ordered (but have not yet received) an Otterbox Commuter case and Seidio Innocase Active case. I was about to order some additional micro usb cables as well as a pair of car chargers, but a comment in another thread got me thinking. Is there an issue with either of those cases not allowing a "standard" micro usb connector to reach through the case opening? The OEM cable has a much slimmer connector than the one on the car charger. Anyone owning either of these cases had any issues?
Thanks!
-=Zzedly=-
I have used the Seidio Innocase Active for months now and just received my Otterbox Commuter by mail today. Neither pose an issue with the micro usb cables. I've used several different ones. I ordered the commuter because of its smoother back, improved durability, and because I've heard that it's much easier to push the power/volume buttons with it- and it's no lie!
For anyone who's been wanting one but couldn't bring themselves to cough up seventy bucks for it, it looks like Dell is clearing out their inventory on their website -
only $20.03 + tax and FREE standard shipping! Here's the link...

ENJOY!
I almost ordered my S7 with the Otterbox from Dell in November but the delivery date for the S7 was early January and the Otterbox was in February.
Woohoo! Just Bought 2!!
Thanks!!!!
There's a thanks button for that
Anyone know if it fits in the dock with the case on?

LOL! I asked the exact same question in the other Otterbox thread! Guess I'll be able to answer the question myself here in about 4 days...
Great please let us know and take a picture if you can. Cause that would be the deciding factor for me. I wont get it if I cant dock it. DS7 + Dock is great for gaming. Trying to take off the case all the time would suck and not be worth it.

I have the OtterBox case but no docking station. I assume that it plugs into the multi-pin bottom port. The case adds some added thickness around the whole S7 plus a soft rubber bumper which a flap covering the port. The flap opens, hinged on the top or screen side and wraps around the under on the bottom. With the standard OEM cord plugged in, the flap extends past the plug by a good 1/4". Want a picture of cord plugged in?
Did a search for the docking station and found this review page: Docking Station. One of the posts state that they have to remove the OtterBox to dock!

Well that really STINKS! I'm thinking that maybe using the back rest plate for the Streak 5 (it comes with the docking kit) will make it work. That back rest plate is curved to allow for a slightly thicker device to fit into the dock.
If it really can't be made to work then the case will have to go. I won't give up my dock - I like it so much I bought 2 of them....
EDIT: I just dug out the Streak 5 back rest plate and looked it over. It is actually curved the opposite way (compared to what I was thinking) to make it work with a THINNER device - not a thicker one.
Sad to say, but this is NOT looking very promising. I may actually have to make a new back rest plate. The big question will be whether the connector in the docking station will plug far enough into the socket with the case on the unit...
Yea if I have to remove it, then no, I dont need the outterbox. I mean I already hate that I cant dock my zune cause I use the hard case on it (official one) What I wish is if docks made extension cords for it.. Imagine use extension on the dock and you could least get features of dock even if it wasnt sitting in it. That or a block you add on top of the dock to fit with cases.
Anyone know a GOOD decent case that the dock would fit with?
is this the rubber case like the DS5 Otterbox? the one that you had to stretch around, but still held well, or the one that is a complete b*tch to get off once it's on?
I ordered this and got it next day. It's a four piece case. There is a rubber "skin" that goes over the hard shell. It's not the easiest thing to get off, no.
Well, I got my OtterBox today. Nice case - pretty much the ultimate in protection.
BUT unfortunately, there's no way to make it fit into the dock with the case on and since it won't just slip easily out of the case, that's a deal breaker for me.
Unless someone here wants to buy it for what I paid for it I'll be sending it back...
Ok so we know that this doesnt work, sucks, but sadly the dock is a vital thing to have on the counter. Easy to keep in view, hook up to the tv, and works wonders for playing emulators on and easy to see. =)
So we need to figure out which case we can use. Was thinking about a simple cover on it. Rubber maybe ok but I need to find a good one that doesnt "sweat" or make a smell after being on it for ages. Then we need one that fits the dock.
Yeah, I just ordered one of the $5 silicon cases of eBay. We'll see how it works out. I'll keep you posted...
Ordered mine, since I'm not having much luck getting a dock at a decent price figured I might as well since the defender is one of the best case options I've seen for the Streak 7
Yeah, if I didn't have and use the dock I'd definitely keep the OtterBox. I ordered a 2-pack of "military grade film" screen protectors and a silicon skin case from eBay. Combined they were a whopping $10.98
I know its not going to be the same level of protection as the OtterBox, but it should be enough to protect it from day to day knocks, bumps, and bruises. I may also get one of those neoprene slip cases for it...

http://www.all4cellular.com/dell-streak-7-home-audio-video-dock.html 50$ on sale. There are some aftermarket ones too for 25$ but those ONLY charge and sync, no hdmi and so, which honestly, is rather pointless in terms of the streak, since hdmi is nice.

I put a Zagg screen protector on mine.
Got the cheapo skin case the other day. It is just thick enough to keep the Streak from fitting into the docking station.
So I got out a pair of small sharp scissors and enlarged the hole for the bottom connector until it exposed the whole area around the docking connector where it makes contact with the docking station.
That still didn't quite solve the problem. The thickness of the case on the back of the unit where it leans against the clear plexiglass "backstop" moves it forward on the docking station to the point that the connectors don't line up properly.
So the next step was to make a new "backstop" out of thinner plastic. I had an old hotel key card lying around and that worked great. Just the right thickness, and stiffness, yet easy to cut to match the shape of the tabs across the bottom.
Since it is much thinner than the slot in the base I filled in the slot with a little hot glue. That way I can always remove it easily if I choose to since the hot glue doesn't stick that well to hard non-porous surfaces.
The aim of this thread is to survey what accessories you decided to use with this awesome tablet. There are other threads which have very detailed reviews and recommendations so let us just keep this simple for easy read. List the accessory, it's function only if not obvious from name, brand, price if you still remember, and where you bought it. Links are good too. If you want to add your .02 for buying then feel free to add them as you wish.
For example:
case : mobo : $14.99 on Amazon
screen protector : bodyguardz : $18.95 on Amazon
stylus : El cheapo from dollar store
If this is a repeat thread, I did not see the original and will delete thread promptly. Thanks.

I have 2 N7's. For the one I keep in the house I have a "i-blason slim leather portfolio auto wake/sleep stand case" in black, (Amazon $19.99) a sgp steinheil crystal clear screen protector, (Amazon $21.99) and I bought a pack of two stylus from T-Mobile ($19.99)that are also pens, they're really nice.
For the other N7 that I take with me to work, use as a gps, etc...I have the "extact tpu x design hybrid case in black, (Amazon $5.95 with free shipping) crazy on digital clear screen protectors, (Amazon $4.85) and I keep the N7, with the tpu on, in a "Mofi 7 inch zip tablet sleeve",(Amazon $9.99) it's green and has Andy the android on it...love it! I also have a "blurex ultra slim multi view stand case" in black, (Amazon $12.99) I switch back and forth between the tpu case and the blurex on the 2nd N7...depending what I'm out and about doing. I also bought a "belkin" stand for watching movies when I don't want the N7 in a case...the blurex case doesn't have anything around the screen like the i-blason does, it's a completely bare screen except for 6 leather clips on the corners to keep the N7 in place. I bought a pair a skull candy ear buds in red, (T-mobile, $19.99) love those! I think that's all I have for accessories right now for both N7's. I bought 3 stylus (styli?) on Amazon for $1.15, they came in a pack of 3, bought them before I found the ones at t-mobile...prefer the ones from T-Mobile, much more nicer, they are skinnier and the rubber tip is firmer.

since i found the nexus 7 speaker to be kinda weak, this small portable bt speaker is nice to have as long as you don't pay too much for it
The app "volume+ (volume booster) " by Meltus, helps the volume on the N7, like A LOT!

OTG: Chinese cheap-o via amazon
First cheapo-until-something-better-was-available cover: KaysCase S-Line TPU
Nice color options, fits the tablet well. Standard TPU case but I liked the blue color and the simple design.
Primary cover: Official Asus Travel Cover
I actually like it, I just wish it came stock as a smart cover that held itself closed. I added a tiny thin magnet to the front flap so at least I get the smart function. I could probably solve the "doesn't hold itself shut" issue if I cared enough, but it suits for now. I'd like to see the other colors from Asus, especially if they come with a built-in smart cover. I also want to see the Premium Asus case when it's available.
Screen protector: amFilm Premium Screen Protector Film Clear
Basic dry application screen protector. Gets the job done cheaper than some, two pack in case you mess up the installation.
Stylus: Boxwave Evertouch
Feels lightweight and kind of cheap, but the mesh tip glides smoother than any rubber one I've used. Good color options.
OTG Cable: Need to purchase, but I just saw this 4-in-1 connector in another thread, and it looks promising, though a lot more expensive than the <$1 Hong Kong cables.
Gamepad: So far I'm just using my Wiimote/Classic Controller because it's what I've got lying around. Works well enough for emulators.
Skinomi Black Carbon back and sides.
Steinheil SGP Ultra Fine Protector.
Right Angle OTG cable.
Arkon Vehicle/Smooth Desk Surface mount.
CrazyOnDigital Car Adapter (Not here yet).
Future: Pelican 1055, waiting on Otterbox. May get a Gumdrop case if Otterbox is stupid enough not to make a case.
RF
Treegloo Cover
Martin Fields Screen Protector
A right-angled OTG cable
So I've tried a couple of protective cases out there (both otterbox cases) and I can't seem to find a case that will work with a MHL adapter that provides any real protection. I am using one of those cheap aluminum ebay cases right now but last time I dropped it with it on it my screen broke so I'm looking for one with more protection. What are you guys using that works with your Samsung MHL adapters (epl 3fhu)?
I use the defender and cut plastic off the MHL plug so that it fits with the case on
You can cut the plastic off the MHL plug?! Can you show me a pic please?

I think he means to shave off a little bit of the plastic part of the mhl cable that is preventing the mhl plug from going in. You can use an exaxto or hobby knife.
I had this problem with my galaxy note 1 and since that mhl adapter doesn't work with the gn2, I bought this mhl cable and it works with my bulky case.

There are others on ebay. just make sure that it is gs3 or gn2 compatible.

Talking about screen protectores, cases, cables, adapters, anything .
I'm kinda waiting for Zagg or any other high quality company to start selling stuff for the Nexus 5X.
Ordered a Cruzerlite case and spigen tempered glass screen protector
I just ordered the spigen tempered glass protector, but I am getting one of the adopted cases from the Google store.
I ordered the case from the play store. The black one. Not sure the name but it looks like its fuzzy on the back. Also a usb-c to usb-a wire from play store for $12.99. Still thinking about screen protector. What's the consensus? Is it gonna lay flat or what? Lol. I haaate the nexus 6 situation with the halo effect.
I didn't hear any mention of a curved screen so it should be fine
Are the tempered glass protectors that much better? I've never used one, always just gone with the sticky film type screen protectors, but wouldn't mind trying something new.

Would also love to hear an answer for this, I always go bare-glass, but I'm ready to be told that my ways are wrong.

If you're not careful with your phone (or just have bad luck) then glass is the way to go. The glass protectors are 9H, so really scratch resistant. I'll be going bare since there will be no ridges when gliding my finger across the edges of the screen

I've used tempered glass on my G3 and M9 both with TPU cases. No issues here.
I will be getting one for my 5X when it arrives.
Some USB-C to USB-A cables and a screen protector.
No case, I prefer "nearly naked" - so I'm going to wait for somebody to put out a good quality skin. I have a black leather skin from Slickwraps on my Nexus 5, I think I'll go the same way with the N5x.
I tried a tempered glass screen protector on the N5 earlier this year, and it cracked after about a month. Same thing happened to a tempered glass protector I had on my Nikon camera. No tempered glass for me.

The Qualcomm Quick charge spec is only for Micro USB connector based chargers.
The USB 3.1 Type-C spec includes it's own charging standards, to get the fastest charging we are going to need native Type-C charger. The ones on the Play Store, obviously should be fine. Otherwise I would be very wary of anything that doesn't have a Type-C port on the charger. Even with that most of the third party chargers probably don't conform to the entire Type-C spec yet.
I have not seen a car charger yet that I have any sort of confidence in providing fast charge capability.
