Gapps was giving me the invalid package thing when trying to install anything. I tried a bunch of things, but ended up uninstalling and trying to reinstall it. I did that and it crashed every 3 seconds making my phone unusable. I slowly navigated to manage apps and got it off my phone. Went to recovery and flashed the one that came with my rom (cm 10.1) it no longer crashes or anything, but it just isn't there. Not on home screen, manage apps, nothing. Any ideas?

Make sure you are installing the right version of gapps for the version of Android you are using. For cm10.1, you need to install gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip, it's different for cm10. Are you using that one? Try doing full wipes, reflashing cm10.1, and flash that version of gapps. You can find the link in the first post of cm10.1. Post if you have any issues after trying that.

I am using a Motorola Droid on Verizon. Up until yesterday, it was bone stock. I rooted it, installed ROM Manager from the market, and followed the instructions to do a Nandroid backup.
I then I researched on the installation of a new ROM. I picked CM7, followed the instructions (or so I thought.) Using ROM manager, I installed it from the SD card. The file itself was in the download folder, not all the way at root. Also, it did not say anything in the program about formatting the SD card. I did, however, format the cache and dalvik cache.
Upon starting, it looped the boot screen for about 15 minutes. I tried again, same thing. I was getting frustrated, and unplugged and kept trying it. Eventually I tried to go back to my Nandroid backup, and at least have a working phone. My phone now said it couldn't find my SD card. I pressed factory reset, and when I rebooted, CM7 started, but didn't work correctly.
I am now stuck here: The Verizon part of my phone works. It makes and takes calls and texts. But I never got an 'enter your gmail address' screen. I also have no apps, other than the stock CM7 ones. No market access, nothing.
Can anyone help me?
CM7 doesn't come with Google apps. After installing cm7, use rom manager to install gapps pack. You will get your market, gmail and all others you want.
Gapps is also available as a seperate flashable update from the link below.

I'm getting two different scenarios while trying to install the Apps zip file, neither of which work.
If I 'install from the SD card' through ROM manager, it reboots, I get the Moto M, and then the phone goes to a new screen, where looks like it can't find the SD card, and then gives up after about 7 or 8 tries.
I do it manually, ClockWorkMod only will stay open for about 10 seconds, and then the phone reboots again. I don't even have time to get to the file. And even if I did, I don't think it'd take if I clicked it fast enough.
I feel like I'm so close to having my phone work, but I can't quite get it.

Did you try a fresh install? I meant wiping data.
I cleared all the data and it works. It works PERFECTLY. Thank you so much for your help. Seeing as though this is my only phone, and only phone I'm going to have for a long time, you have no idea how much hassle you saved me. Again, thank you!
No problem. Enjoy CM7.
Hello,
I am a noob trying to install a rom with aroma installer. But now it has been stuck at the page where it says: The installation wizard has successfully installed *********. Press next to exit.
What do i do? Power off?
Is it definitely stuck? Aroma doesn't always recognise touch events very accurately, and I usually have to tap the "next" button a few times before it registers. Failing that, if it's finished installing whatever you flashed, you should be fine to reboot manually anyway.
Yes,i have tried to push the next button many times but nothing happens. It has been like this for 30 minutes now. The successfully installed text appeared very fast, a second or two maybe after the previous screen. So if it has installed the rom, it was def a fast install.
Anyway, is it safe to try to reboot, even if it was in the middle of the install? Rebot to recovery and try again?
Well, there certainly isn't anything else to be done besides rebooting. I don't know what you were trying to install - if it was a several-hundred-MB ROM, as most things that use Aroma are, you would expect it to take a while. Smaller things can be flashed very quickly. If it _did_ go wrong somewhere, there are a few things:
1. What recovery, and what version thereof, are you using?
2. Did you wipe data before using the installer?
3. Most of all, what were you trying to install? There might be some known issue with certain configurations.
I wouldn't necessarily expect a working OS when you reboot, depending on what you were trying to install and how badly things went wrong, but you should be able to get back into recovery easily enough.
Thank you for your quick reply.
1. I use the CWM recovery in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914394 thread, not the newest, but 5.5 something i believe.
2. Yes, wiped all data + dalvik.
3. I was trying to install rXTREME on my SGS III lte i9305.
I've rebooted now, and everything works perfect as the phone was before i tried to do the install. No brick. I also tried to flash it one more time, but stuck at the same place again. Rebooted fine at stock rom again. Maybe i should take this as a hint that someone else should be put at the steering wheel..
EDIT: forgot link above
Found out what the problem was.
In Aroma Installer i selected EFS backup both times. The third time i tried i did not do this. And everything went fine. Runs smooth.

Hello.
I just successfully flashed CM9 Build 6 on my Galaxy S Plus. It was terrifying.
My problem lies in the fact that i can't seem to get Gapps working. I tried multiple versions, from the latest one to 20120429, which is currently the last one flashed on my phone. The apps don't appear, and trying to use a downloaded Google Play app from the web makes it start, but it just flashes a 'Loading' screen for a split second and then boots me back to the app menu.
Any ideas on what I could do next to fix this?
Have you tried wiping your entire phone and then reinstalling CM9 + gapps (the version provided by arco68)?
It's what I did the first time. Should I flash it again?
You should definitely give it a shot, maybe something went wrong while flashing.
What recovery are you using?
Apparently I had the stock one, that must of been the problem. Didn't document well enough.
I've just flashed 6.0.1.2 and I'll flash everything again once I download all the files.
Yep that was it. It runs as it should now. Thank you for your help.
Good to hear!
Slightly related, please note what's going on in the dev section (here). Certain combinations of recovery software and hardware may brick your phone if you try to wipe data. Playing with your new recovery could be dangerous right now, be careful!
I have rooted my phone and installed the CWM ROM Manager app, but every time I try and reboot in recovery, or install ROM from SD card in the menu the phone restarts shows the android and then crashes, I then turn on the phone agian and it boots into 'Android System recovery <3e>'
What am I doing wrong?
On this phone you can install cwm using ROM manager. You will need to use a kernel that has cwm recovery. Eg. Philz kernel.

Thanks nokiamodeln91, I used PhilZ-cwm6-XXLTA-ATL-5.15.0.tar.md5 and that seems to have worked, for Nightowl-cm13-beta3-n7000 ROM.......though I do get a yellow warning triangle under the Samsung logo when I turn the phone on, but it boots up into Nightowl after a little delay.
Though I'm now having a little trouble finding a Gapps that works with this ROM, if someone could point me in the right direction?
I tried making one with on The Open GApps Project ARM/6.0/full, but it didn't work (should have taken a note of the error message), and then tried "BaNkS-Dynamic-GApps-6.x.x-10-20-15" that one installed but keeped looking a error message about apps that had stopped working.
OK just tried to install the micro Gapps recommended on the [ROM][CM13][Marshmallow][Android 6.0.1] NightOwl 20160510 thread
install, then when the phone boots up I get

popping up one after the other.
May be you should try a clean install on ROM followed by micro open gapps in one go. Bigger gapps won't install due to space limitations of system partition.

I had the same problem. Solution is provided in http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/problems-gapps-cm13-t3258915 and that worked for me:
Go to Settings, Apps , select "Show system apps" in menu at the top , scroll to and tap "Setup wizard", "Permissions" and turn all permissions on (Contacts and Phone).
This may take a while as you have to do this while the error messages keep popping up. Put your gaming skills to work to benefit from those spare moments there are no error messages and you can interact with the phone.
Update: this got rid of the setup wizard messages. I still had problems with the Google play services that would not go away. In the end the solution was to wipe the entire internal SD card (/sdcard0) and not only system, cache, data. I then installed both the CM13 and GApps in one go. After the initialisation phase no error messages popped up. So the answer to the problem may also be: wipe everything (to prevent some old data files interfering with the new install) and install CM13 + GApps in one go.
My Tab S2 T719Y has started acting really weird recently. For some reason, it would stall trying to run any ROM that I flash to it.
I'm not certain if it's a LineageOS problem or something is dead in the tablet.
I can flash (the few available still maintained) ROMs offered on the forums for my specific model.
The flash would go fine and everything seems to boot fine. I can install GApps and all. Not a single error mesage.
Then it gets to the new device setup wizard and then it stalls with a black screen. Or in the case of having GApps installed, I can choose a language and press Start at the start of the setup wizard, but I end up in a "Just a min.." bootloop and the tablet is unable to do anything except go back to the language select startup page.
The tablet seems to be running fine beneath. The touch buttons light up and haptic feedback still works. By double tapping the Back button I can get the system UI to show that it's switching between apps, but leads to another blank screen. By pulling down from the top, I can even pull open the notifications bar and quick settings. And I'm able to switch them on an off fine.
I've even tried flashing old ROMs that I know for a fact would run fine, but those end up in the same dead screen.
I've tried wiping and formatting everything in the tablet: Dalvik, System, Data, Storage, Cache ... all to no avail.
What is going on here? I'm reading in some Reddit threads that there might be some data access problem?
How do I resolve this?
Restore the stock ROM using odin and 4-file firmware and check again. If it is OK, go ahead
Thank you! That miraculously revived the tablet back from the dead.

Where can I find 4-file firmware.? I tried using Odin to go back to stock 7.0, but the tablet after reboot stops at the Samsung logo. Tried flashing several times and same thing. Help!
