Hi xda community. I've been trying to spoof the MAC address and do a WiFi tethering while using that MAC to share my network with no results. I used various apps in the store, the yellow wifi one, the terminal commands with busybox, searching the nvram.info file (is not there) and nothing works. I'm trying to do this to spoof the Nintendo Zone Streetpass relay for my 3DS with the community of gbatemp. I'm using CM 10.1. Thanks in advance.

Thank you. I already tried that app but when I change the MAC, it opens automatically the WiFi network menu and I don't need that. I need to change the MAC address of the wlan0 and tether my mobile connection with that MAC. When I change the MAC with those apps in the play store, they revert to the original one when I start tethering.
Nevermind, I hard bricked my phone and I couldn't revive it using the 300k ohm jig or button combo. It can't even reach download mode, so I'm screwed because I can't buy another phone.
Captivate back alive! Now I have it with CM 7.2 with Glitch Kernel 13.1 and I can't find the nvram file. What should I do? Thanks in advance.

Nobody? I've been flashing a lot of roms and kernels to see if I can find the file ".nvmac.info" but still nothing, and the app of WiFi Tehter 3.4 Experimental still doesn't spoof the wireless MAC address. Please, ¿what can I do? Thanks in advance.
Bump! Does anybody know?

I'm trying the same things with my Note 2. I can spoof the MAC address in the terminal. But! as soon as I start tethering it uses the original MAC address of the device. There must be a reason for this. I've tried many apps out there but can only change the MAC address in wifi mode, as soon as I start tethering, it uses the origianl MAC address.
Anyone else experimenting with this?

Can not access MAC address on NC HC...any suggestions on how to. Need MAC to connect to schools wifi....thanks
Got it.
Found it thorugh Wifi Wigget.
To anyone who is going to put HC on there NC, prior to doing so i would take note of the MAC address of your NC. you will not beable to get to it through [Setting]> [About Phone]> [Status], it will force close on you.
Just a FYI.
If you go into settingss, click on wireless & networks, wifi settings and click on the top right four lines, and hit advanced, it will give you the MAC address. I believe that is the correct one.

Awesome, thank you thats where it was !!!
I can't seem to get WiFi Tether to work on ICS build 6.16.206 and was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem.
Thanks
WiFi Tether does not seem to work properly but I am posting this from my Xoom while tethered to D4 using the Mobile Hotspot with the entitlement check removed, so that method does work.
I don't like to use the Mobile Hotspot and prefer the Wifi Tether app, but it looks like it needs tweaking for these builds.
Hmmm. I tried the Mobile Hotspot SQLite hack and that didn't work either. It gets stuck at "Identifying" when I try to connect with my PC. Weird.
Free wifi works using Sqlite
I am using my mobile hotspot to send post this reply. After I watched a video on youtube on how to get wifi on the Bionic using SqLite Editor. I gave it a try and it did work. I don't know what to expect next from Verizon so if you wanna try it TIGHTEN UP YOUR BALLS AND SEAL YOUR BUTT HOLE in case Verizon decides to f* you up or break your balls because I am not responsible for the outcome
HOw to bypass Verizon Mobile Hotspot restriction to use wifi:
1-Purchase and install SqLite Editor over the market
2-Open SqLite, scroll down the list and choose "Settings Storage"(the one with the hammer and wrench)
3-On the next screen select "settings.db"
4-Then choose "settings"
5-Once on the MS-Excel-sheet-looking page, hit the menu button
6-On the pop-up menu select "set filter"
7-In the "Filter value" field type the word "check"
8-Click and hold on the "entitlement_check"
9-"Edit" the value from "1" to "0"
10-Exit the app and reboot
11-Check Mobile Hotspot under your System Settings and you are back onto free wireless tethering
N.B: For those of you, the cheap bastards, please don't try to snatch a refund by trying to uninstall the app within 15 minutes of purchase. Have a bit of decency, will you?!!!
I don't know why this won't work for me. I froze a bunch of stuff with Titanium Backup so I thought one of those may have been the culprit but after unfreezing everything I still can't successfully connect. Grrr.
Maybe that is why. I did it on bone stock. Try to bring everything back to normal then reboot. Once done try the method again.
Wifi Tethering Works Great
I am using the app 'Foxfi' and my Wifi Tethering works absolutely flawlessly.
No freezing, editing, changing, hacking, nada.

Tried foxfi already and it didn't work. Also tried open garden and versions 3.1-12/13/14, 3.2-1 of the wifi tether app. I'm afraid of any side affects that might come from using the Verizon hot spot app. /:

Got foxfi to work by restarting. Lol

Glad it worked! I wonder what Foxfi does (without root, even) that Wifi tether doesn't...
Wired and BT tether work flawlessly.
Wifi is blocked by verizon because i don't pay for it.

I was able to change entitlement_check and now mobile hotspot can be activated, and other devices can connect to the Droid 4, but internet is not shared to this devices. On the previous phones I have to change APN type to "default, dun, supl" in order to enable internet sharing, but I was not able to do this for Droid 4. Any ideas how to fix that?

You can't add dun anymore to the profiles on the ICS leak, please view my thread in order to navigate through SQLite Editor to add a dun entry to a new APN:

What are you talking about
What proxy are you using? It's an app your installed? Proxies are for browser usually i don't understand why you're talking about app and proxy that doesn't work together.
Can you tell me more about what you try to do?

So you're trying to say that only the browser works and all other apps have no internet access?? Facebook and stuff?
Edit: Finally understood the situation, if you're using the schools wifi and they blocked apps to work (my college wifi does that too), the only way to get it to work is if they unblock it themselves. That's why you should get a data plan lol

Haha! Here we are! You're trying to bypass the security proxy of the wifi
If it's your wifi desactivate it, if you're in public place or school, you're *****ed
Is VPN an option for you? Sounds like deep packet inspection to me. If you'd use VPN your whole traffic will be encrypted. So no dpi to look in your traffic

I cloned one nexus 6 from another one's backup image using twrp backup/restore function.

Well considering cloning a device is illegal and as such against XDA rules Ill close this thread now.
I am in Sudan and I can cast from Youtube app on my HTC One M9 to my Playstation 4 Youtube app fine but when I try to cast to my Google Chromecast there is no Cast Button on the HTC Youtube app. I think it is because of "sanctions" and my country being blocked because when I share an ad-hoc network from my laptop through a VPN and connect both my HTC and Chromecast to it, it works fine. But I am baffled that my PS4 does it without VPN.
I am desperate to find a way to make my Chromecast works without VPN and I really really need your help XDA. I googled and searched on the forums for hours and I couldn't find anything that works.
same thing is happening to me. M9 and it won't recognize my chromecast. Worked yesterday
Edit: day 2. Still doesn't work. While I can't cast through the chromecast app, I can see the wallpaper and reset it.
Edit 2: still no luck after a factory reset. Not sure if I lost root because of that, but I didn't use root anyway
my chromecast also stopped working..

If you are running Eureka-ROM, go to web GUI page (enter ip address of the chromecast into browser). In the settings section you can see option to change whitelist.
