FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND YOU NEED TO BE ROOTED
Ok so I found a couple of web pages that spoke of finding hidden
settings in the devices build.prop. But, even with this hack it will
still not make calls or receive them. Me being me i didnt even wait
I went straight to it and saw the phone options disabled.
Its located in the /system folder ,
I used root explorer so edit the build.prop , look for a line that says
ro.telephoney-disabled=true and you want to change that disabled
to enabled so it should read ro.telephoney-enabled=true
after this root exelporer makes a backup of the original , after that give
the streak a reboot and when in the dell stage UI you will see the phone
icon at the bottom now...
as we know theres nothing you can really do with it at the moment but, I have been looking over at the galaxy tab phone hack and that lead me to looking into the file system and I a couple of things like in the /system/framework folder there is a .jar file named "com.oem.networksetting.jar" in there it contains a classes.dex file that when opened in a text editor I see things like "networksetting.java OFFSET" and "areacode OFFSET" just a lot of things OFFSET ...any iedas any thoughts are welcome

also what plan do you have the tablet plan or a actual voice and data plan
I'm looking at the build.prop. I dont use a plan (although I have a sim installed, I did try one of those 7 day passes once though)
I use wifi and when I'm on the go I just make my mytouch 4g a mobile wifi hot spot and connect my streak to that.

You can look up in all the posts by me.
I wrote a really simple guide (I think!) to do it step by step
Hope it helps.
ps. I broadcast my gv number as my cell and use it to map my private cell to receive or make calls. so it becomes my main voice line.

Assuming you already have pbxes configured?
3cxphone config for Pbxes.org.
ProfileName = Whatever you name it
User = loudemartino-200 (your pbxes login)
Password= XXXXXXXX (your pbxes.org password)
Internal server = Blank
External Server = sip.pbxes.org
STUN server= stun3.3cx.com (default, leave it alone)
Thats it.

There has been a long winded discussion about it over at TabletRoms.com at therotically its possible, but so far not practical solution has arrived.
I'm also in same stage...
I did all the thing what u said, but unable to get into the code details. I learnt programming 10 -12 years back, at that time NO Android, if any android developers please look the matter.

to use dell streak 7 as a phone
Hi im using streak 7 wifi+3g unlocked version
I have found the solution to use streak 7 as a phone without using any root, just go to market and install apk installer, then find the attachment file Viber_2.1.6.632.apk on this post download it and save it on your streak 7 internal storage and find it with file explorer it will be in the download folder of your streak 7, this works also with all tablets that cant install viber via market and install it and follow the setup process after that you will be able to use your own carrier gsm number to call even international calls by using your data plan, try to add me on your phone book and call my number for testing +255776553398. or +255773044899 all your phone book contacts who are using viber you will see them and you can call them and sms them for free and then can call you and sms you.
Please donate if this works for you im sure this will work 100%
Hello,
Does anyone know how I can change the default car mode app? When I dock my phone the car mode app automatically launches, but I'd like to configure it for a different car mode app as I"m not a fan of the stock one. In settings there are no defaults set for the car mode app so I'm not sure where to go to clear it and set a different one.
Thanks,
Tim
Same here.
Would love to replace the car mode app. It has some limitations and I would like to replace it.
Have not found a way yet to change this up.
Is there no solution to this seemingly simple problem? Is HTC/Android really that limited that it can't be changed? I may just root the phone to get rid of it lol

That's what I did in the end.
Root and use Titanium Backup or similar to remove the 'Car' app. Then it allows you to set and associate a different car app by default.
Note: when you hard reboot the phone (e.g. do not use the 'Fast Boot' setting) it will automatically restore the 'Car' app from HTC.
Thus make sure you have 'Fast Boot' on, otherwise you have to remove the 'Car' app again.
Pain in the buttocks.

You might try a custom kernel to get rid of the system write protection that prevents you from deleting something. And then you'll be able to reboot without Fastboot enabled.

Very true.
Unfortunately I heavily rely on the T-Mobile WiFi calling feature (coverage, international travel etc). No newer custom kernel support this (that I know of).
Otherwise I would have gotten the generic HTC One Developer versions vs. the specific TMO version.
Cheers, R.

As far as I know, and hopefully someone who knows more can chime in, Wi-Fi calling is built into sense in tmous roms (or roms based off of them) and isn't reliant on specific kernels. And if it is there is still a modification for the stock kernel to allow write access. If you want I can find you a link when I'm not typing on my phone.

Hi xda community. I've been trying to spoof the MAC address and do a WiFi tethering while using that MAC to share my network with no results. I used various apps in the store, the yellow wifi one, the terminal commands with busybox, searching the nvram.info file (is not there) and nothing works. I'm trying to do this to spoof the Nintendo Zone Streetpass relay for my 3DS with the community of gbatemp. I'm using CM 10.1. Thanks in advance.

Thank you. I already tried that app but when I change the MAC, it opens automatically the WiFi network menu and I don't need that. I need to change the MAC address of the wlan0 and tether my mobile connection with that MAC. When I change the MAC with those apps in the play store, they revert to the original one when I start tethering.
Nevermind, I hard bricked my phone and I couldn't revive it using the 300k ohm jig or button combo. It can't even reach download mode, so I'm screwed because I can't buy another phone.
Captivate back alive! Now I have it with CM 7.2 with Glitch Kernel 13.1 and I can't find the nvram file. What should I do? Thanks in advance.

I'm trying the same things with my Note 2. I can spoof the MAC address in the terminal. But! as soon as I start tethering it uses the original MAC address of the device. There must be a reason for this. I've tried many apps out there but can only change the MAC address in wifi mode, as soon as I start tethering, it uses the origianl MAC address.
Anyone else experimenting with this?

Hey guys,
I`am having a problem with my Nexus 6 not beeing recognised in ADM and on the web Google Play site in device manager though it shows up in Google Play and syncing goes without problems. Running full stock MMB29V not rooted.
I contacted Google to look if the issue is beeing caused on their end because i tried everything else to solve the issue on my end.
Things i tried:
1.
1) Go into multitasking and close Android Device manager if it is open.
2) Open Google Settings app. Then go to Security. Uncheck both Android Device manager options. I believe they are Remote Erase and Tracking.
3) Go to Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Services. Clear cache and data.
4) Reboot
5) Back to Google Settings. Recheck both options.
2.
Did a data factory reset
3.
Reflashed the factory image folowed by a data factory reset.
4.
Booted up in safe mode.
ok @gee2012, ill try to make this painless..
now, in my n6, when i go into device manager, it cant find my n6. BUT, if i open my device manager app on my sgs4, it finds my n6 right away. it just seems like an android/google issue.

Weird.
A friend had this same issue while trying to enroll - he got around this by adding a second Google account (you could create a new dummy account I guess if you don't have a second one already) to his phone, and signed up on the preview page using that account.

Could do that, but i want to know whats wrong my account (settings) or at the Google end and why it doesn`t link my phone to my account in the ADM.
Understood, and agreed. You'd want ADM to be able to locate your device in case it goes missing.
i'm exactly with this problem too on my nexus 6p.
i'm not able to see my device on ADM, keeps spining. already did all the troubleshooting i could find including the ones on the original post.
i do have another 2 google accounts on my nexus and no problem with them on finding the device in ADM and also the nexus is showing up on androidbeta enroll devices.
It might be something related with my primary google account since there is no problem on the other 2 google accounts.
The only thing that's different on my primary account is that it is protected with 2 step verification.
it's really weird and i really wanted to enroll to android N on my primary account.

My primary account is 2-step secured too. In Google Dashboard it also shows 2 Nexus 6`s , the primary secured one has the option to remove it from the account and the other non-secured one can`t be removed. Hope Google can solve this annoying issue.
I'm having the same issue. Even my second account doesn't show up.
i turned my location off, then my n6 stopped showing up in device manager. i turned on my location, and my n6 showed up in the device manager.

Guys, you misunderstood that app It just is to "bypass" the Android Auto lock, and launch apps on the PHONE not on the car dash. For instance this can be used to launch Speedcam warning apps, or whatever stuff you want to see on the phone during an AA session.
If you want full mirroring there is a way, but it requires root
Step 1.) Root 2.) Install a VNC server on the phone 3.) Use WebViewAuto (See my repo) to connect to VNC via Browser
Basically this could be done with any remote-desktop solution which has HTTP support. If someone has a rooted phone please try I have no rooted phone right now..

No, a local vnc server can be accessed via local url as well (http://localhost or 127.0.0.1) but you have to find a server which has HTTP+HTML5 support. I think there are some in the PlayStore

I am trying to mirror phone to opel corsa intellilink system, which support android auto, and WebViewAuto is working.
Without internet (i don't have in car). What should i write to the address of WebViewAuto?
Thanks,
Edit, probably this has better chances to work
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vmlite.vncserver
but very expensive just to try.. If it does work i would buy it..
It support html5, and connection through wifi, or usb, etc..
Someone more experienced than me perhaps understand better if it will work.

Meh I just want complete screen mirroring using AA so I can use my car screen to show what's on the phone AA as is, is pretty ****e, I'd much rather use my own apps . For example my car mode setup of Car Home Ultra & tomtom speed camera overlay gives me about 100000% more flexibility and usefulness than AA. It doesn't seem to have hurt me using it in a phone cradle, it would just be better on my 8 inch car screen

WebViewAuto just uses the Internet of your phone. Type URL and you are good to go.
Yeah probably vmlite would work but its too expensive for me as well to just try.. BTw. it must not be VNC. Any RDP tool which offers a HTTP access could be used. It could also be done with Linux more easy. For example: Put a raspberry pi in the glovebox connect it to Smartphone or Car Wifi. Find out IP. Open IP with WebViewAuto and you got a full Linux Screen on the car dash
