Is that possible to unroot my note by flashing a stock rom(with no root and no CWM) using odin?
I rooted by galaxy note few weeks ago by flashing a rooted stock rom(with cwm installed) using odin. Afterward, I flashed rocketrom through clockworkmod.
I am wondering if it is possible to unroot and restore back to stock by simply using odin to flash an unrooted original stock rom(please note i am currently running rocketrom).
I know there are several methods provided in this forum like unrooting by Easy Rooting Toolkit( I know this is not possible which may result in broken system) or CF root(I doubt since i did not use cf root to root my phone), so i want to know whether unrooting by odin works. If not, please provide me any viable solutions, thx!
If you flash a stock version smartphones become like your just bought
Make wipe all before to be sure of the result.
EDIT: check CSC after

If your ROM(which u r going to flash) is wipe version, it will wipe off all data, in case you have to backuo it first.
If you dont want to keep root, then nothing more steps required. Just flash any stock rom with odin

So by Flashing Stock Rom; Root+CWM will be wipe out too?
No need to unRoot?
But from your Root Guide, you mention
"Now How I can revert back to Stock ROM/Unroot (In case of replacemet may i need)
If You have Root + CWM - then first find out original stock kernel (zImage file)
Now place this file in zImage folder, n repeat procedure(Initial CFRoot Flasher), which you have done at time of pushing CWM by selecting I am rooted already
Now unroot with above said unrooting tool."

This is for whom, who wants to remains on existing ROM. You just can understand stock rom requires 550 mb data to download, while unrooting tools just few Mb.
So who wants new stock rom + unrooting, just flashing new stock ROM with odin is enough.

Thx for your help! Do I need to wipe data/factory reset before going back to stock from rocketrom? Recently there were some ppl saying that they bricked their phone when they tried to go back to stock using odin, this really scared me.
I dont believe note can b bricked by changing rom. Yes it can cause bootloop if you tranafere custom to stock some time. Just xlear cache, delvic cache is enough to solve it. But if you can hard reset b4 changin rom, it is always gud.

Thx ketan again. BTW What is the main difference betwen mobile odin and odin for pc(I know if I want to flash with mobile odin, my device needs to be rooted. Also the yellow triangle will not appear with mobile odin.)? Which one is safer to use?

-Mobie Odin needs Root
-It keeps your root intact
PC odin can't keep your Root intact, so if you are flashing a ROM, which if newer n not directly rootable, you can't get Root after this.
PC odin gives triangle, n raise flash counter if you flash custom ROM/Kernel
Both are safe.
So I am one of the "brave" souls who flashed ICS LPY via Mobile odin from Stock GB prerooted ROM. I flashed it together with cf 5.3 kernel. Its been 10 days now and i haven't had any problems but i was lucky that i haven't used CWR nor factory restore. So after reading all the warnings that LPY has a bug on eMMC i want to safely go back to Gingerbread.
Ive searched the forum and found a few methods (Mobile ODIN, PC ODIN, CWR) but i want to make sure that i don't get my device bricked (have no warranty). So my question is Should i choose Full Wipe or a non wipe option while getting back to GB? Or maybe wait a little longer and just try not to stress the I/O till the issue gets resolved?

Full wipe everything just to have a clean gb rom to use afterwards. You don't want to have remains of other roms in there! Just to be sure!

you can use ODIN to flash stock GB ROM! but there are some reports that even that can cause superbrick! read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653582
you can read this thread how to do it using abyssnote kernel:

and for some more info read this thread:

hope this helps and good luck!
btw: I was on i9220ZCLP1 kernel and flashed stock GB ROM with ODIN and everything went fine!

Download pre rooted rom and flash thru pc odin. I came back to gb litening rom twice from lpy and alba 2.1.
This is the way how I downgraded to gb from ics succesfully. It doesn't mean is 100% no risk at all.
Good luck.

this rom is good for this operation?
3*Files Wipe N7000XXLC1_N7000OXALC1 Open Europe (02/03/2012)
and after gb restored , full wipe? Or the rom itself full wipe?
or maybe wait for new ics?

Sorry no ideal. But based to the info and the detail you given. The emmc damaged should not exists at your devices. Since you never use the cf-lpy cwm. I'm not the pro..but my opinion could be the common answer.

If you feel panic with the bricked problem might appear while flashing back to gb. Please don't try ..it was horrible...your heartbeat sure will keep increase fast and faster...believe me..I hv tried twice....
If you feel comfort with the current ics and without any major bug, just keep using it and enjoy while the dev looking for the solution and waiting for kernel sources code realease.
Just keep in mind DUN USE THE CWM.
OR YOU CAN USE TITANIUM BACKUP AND FREEZE THE CWM FOR ANY ACCIDENTALY WRONG PRESS.

I had a rooted Gingerbread with CF root kernel KKA. When ICS came out i rushed and Flashed a cf root lpy zimage (kernel only) via Recovery ( i know it was stupid.. ) So i got stuck and i could only come up to CWM. I used the CWM to BACK UP MY DATA (this was before i even flashed the ICS rom). From there i used PC odin to flash kka gingerbread rom. Flashed it without problem. Then i flashed ICS LPY rom together with LPY kernel via Mobile Odin and i clicked wipe data. Everything went well. I haven't used CWM. Now i am affraid that i could have bad EMMC. Should i stay on ICS or should i flash stock GB rom again?

I had answered your question thru email. Stick with your current ICS rom will be the best option and choices. Since I do believe no one at the forum able to give you 100% accurately exactly what happen with your emmc. Just enjoy your ics.
Please don't simply flash any gb rooted kernel so that able use the cwm again and go back to gb. Please read the instruction carefully.
PERSONNAL OPINION: I'm always prefer flash stock or pre rooted gb rom thru pc odin beside flash axxx4.2kernel to perform full wipe.
Good luck bro..

Well according to the devs here you should be good. But noone can guarantee you are 100%. I decided to wait till the issue gets resolved even though i haven't used recovery at all. I am taking my chances on ICS. But again staying on ICS isn't safe either I am quoting CHainfire here..

It's all possible. Either way, what I wan't to make absolutely clear again:
If the problem is present in CF-Root LPY (and it's not a "leftover" problem from previous ROM - this is possibly the case), then it's also present in stock LPY. This means you *can* randomly brick your phone even if fully booted into Android, under heavy I/O load.
(on the Note there normal and recovery kernels are the same, and CWM is just a userspace program, nothing special(!) - so if the problem can happen in CWM, it can happen in Android)"
So whichever choice you make... good luck.

Yup, is true. Beside you need to stay away from cwm, you should be aware when doing the large file transfer.
Stick with Lpy, do not touch cwm at all, try to avoid do any large files transfer.
Relax bro...u should be fine...just follow what the instruction given by the dev. Since no one really know exactly what happen.

So heres what happened.
I entered download mode and saw that my binary count was high (2), therefore i tried resetting it back to zero using the n7000 flash counter and recover warranty guide from adroid .gs..BIG FAIL. After step 1, my flash binary count was at 3 and i had the triangle at startup..I didnt proceed to step 2..Instead, I reset the cache in CWM, and rebooted straight after, and triangle disappeared but the binary count was still at 3. So then I FINALLLYYYY used the triangleaway app, and now my binary count is back to zero. Thing is though, my camera and wifi no longer work? Any resolutions? Safe ones? lol
Thankyou

If you're going to Stock ICS then use PC Odin, It will not increase the Binary counter - either way you will lose root but follow Dr. K's method to root once on ICS.
I believe the Yellow triangle will only trigger if flashing a non-stock (Custom) Kernel via PC Odin. I use Mobile ODIN for kernel flashing.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have just watched Cursed4eva youtube video using Mobile Odin to flash German ICS stock on rooted gb. I think that was also ok. but he did mention if binary count is triggered. It also has everroot enabled. Seems ok ?
If you want to flash just stock ROM, you can use either.
Stock ROM won't raise counter in anyway.
But i do recommend is go with PC Odin. as well clean.
You are already rooted so make backup with titanium
Hard reset (wipe cache and data from recovery) on existing GB ROM
-Flash ICS using PC Odin
-Root it, and restore appl using TB (avoid restoring sys junk, just only restore user app)
And yes above menton method won't increae flash counter.
Use first link on my signature to get ICS ROM + installation N rooting instruction

Follow Dr.ketan's Rooting guide for ICS and install a custom kernel through CWM recovery or using mobile ODIN. :good:

I usually flash kernels with Mobile Odin or CWM.. I don't like to flash custom kernels with PC Odin as the Binary counter increases. Yes, I know that you can use Triangle Away.. But this for me should be a last resort when there are other methods available..
I rooted via Dr. K's method and flashed the latest Speedmod Kernel via Mobile Odin - I am running Stock 4.0.3 with SpeedMod K3-11. NO Binary count increase and no need for Triangle Away...
I think there's a few people getting to used to using TA to take short cuts to do things....It is itself, not without risk...

Mobile Odin is safe to flash a custom kernel.
Download the kernel you want to flash to your SD card (internal or external).
Run Mobile Odin, grant access through Superuser and go to the kernel section inside Mobile Odin pro and look for the kernel that you earlier saved from the download.
After that, just tap on flash firmware (inside Mobile Odin still) and that would restart your phone and once booted, you now have a new kernel.

Thanks for all the replies- sorry for further asking. Suppose I want to get back to GB from present ICS stock with Speedmod kernel can I use Mobile Odin right away to flash any stock GB? Or go the PC odin route? Which is safer?
Hi and sry if my post is like many others, but i need strait answers for my particular software version.
So i am running Galaxy Note N7000 is rooted and unlocked with Galaxy_S Unlock apk i think (was locked on SRF France)
Android Version :2.3.6
Baseband version :N7000BUKK1
Kernel version : 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKKA-CL726566
[email protected] #2
Build number :GINGERBREAD.XXKKA
My question is:
Can i upgrade the software from the phone menu Software Upgrade? it is always asking me if i want to install or not.
Can i brick my phone using this method?
If i manage to get ICS on the device will i still be able to use unlock .apk on 4.0.x ?
I use vodafone romania sim
Should i use Odin or Kies or phone upgrade from menu?
Ihave downloaded all the stock roms for my country and carrier (Vodafone)
BTW mobile odin said there is something wrong with my partition, and emmc check will leave black screen and crash after a few seconds (is this something to be worried?)
What method do you guys recommend ?
Thanx in advance !

from the phone it becomes OTA and lot of chances that the phone gets screwed up

if emmc check crashes or hangs that means there are corrupted blocks.

it is best to upgrade via odin .. then comes kies but i am not sure if installing it will lock ur device again.

So i should go ahead and put the stoc ics firmware for my country and update with odin over my rooted gb 2.3.6, no harm will occur?
Should i put the .pit for 16GB when using odin or just put the fw in PDA and hit Start?
I asked if the unlock apk is compatible with ICS also...but i will find out soon )
Thanx
Just read first line on my signature and flash ICS using Odin
I recommend go clean(first wipe cache and data before flashing ICS) and don't wipe once you are on ICS stock kernel
After this find second link on my sign and use method 1A/1B to root.
No need to use pit, though detail instruction is there on my thread

Let me get this right:
1 go to CMWR and clear data and cash, then exit, reboot
2.go into download mode vol - + home+ power
3 connect odin and select the rom into pda
4 hit start and let it do its job, it will reboot into the new ics after that.
then my phone will probably have ICS running but no root and so i cannot use unlock apk, only if i IMEI unlock it so i can stay on stock all the way.
So after i flash stock ics using odin i shall never do a hard reset on my phone even if i do not root it?
thanx for patience and help
correct me if i am wrong at any steps.
thanx again

1. yes You are on GB ROM, so safe
2.OK
3.OK
4.Not probably but it will boot to ROM which you have flash.
If you have network lock, then you have to Root your device to unlock it.
For that use 2nd link on my signature to root it.
Again here one more thin i have to clear
If you select ICS 4.0.4 to flash, then direct network unlock won't work.
For this refer to 'Toolbox' in my signature and follow tool No 18 and then 17
In case of 4.0.3, Tool No 17 only will be fine.

No, now on GB 2.3.6 ! I pushed vol up home and power
and it rebooted in Android System Recovery (3e)
GB is safe for wipe, even you are on stock 3e recovery, wipe cache and data/factory reset

Should i flash Hydracore v5 kernel with odin after my odin upgrade to stock ics just to be sure that no brick bug will happen to my note if i ever do a HW reset?
Yes safe kernel always safe.
Flashing kernel with Odin raise flash counter.
You can flash phillz kernel (which is also safe) from stock recovery. If you want to flash hydracore or any other later you can flash with phillz recovery without raising counter.
