I have a little problem that I can't find asked and answered in the rest of the forum. I read through a few posts before finally just registering and starting my own post....
Here's the story- I picked my phone off the table a few days ago to find that it had been lounging in a pool of condensation. I took it apart in hopes that it would dry out with no damage to the functionality, but no such luck! The camera doesn't work anymore, it just stays black. I can't watch videos, there is some kind of error message everytime I try to watch a YouTube, Netflix, or a previously recorded video from my gallery. All this I could deal with until I upgrade, BUT what's driving me absolutely insane is that there is NO sound. I can't record into the mic, can't listen to music, and I'm not able to hear anything when making or getting a call. There aren't even key tones anymore. And none of this happened before the little exposure it had to moisture.
Other than that, the phone works normally. I can text, browse the internet, use apps, and the calls seem to go through, I'm just not able to communicate.
Essentially, I'm wanting to know if there is a simple fix for this issue. At the very least, I would like to have the basic phone feature to make and receive calls.
Simple fix would be to buy a new motherboard .
One presumes that you have read and understood the basics and a factory reset/ flash stock firmware has failed .
jje
The only way would be sending it to Samsung and test your luck again.

Ok, first off I just want to say I have searched around the forums for a similar problem in hopes for a solution and to avoid reposting a question.
For information about my phone, see below the problem description.
Here is the problem:
This just started today, the phone will not play any ringtone or notification sound. I can confirm the speaker itself still works by playing music or choosing ringtones. Alarms do still work, just not call tones or notification tones(even using default ones).
Now that is only part of the problem, along with that, is the fact that when a text message is received, I can view it and dismiss it (Using Handcent as Default). But 30 seconds to a minute after getting the message, or usually while replying to it, the screen will go black and the capacitive buttons stay lit up. No button presses are registered and the only way to gain access into the phone is by removing the battery and putting it back in.
I am also not getting every message sent to me, some will come through while others don't.
Another unrelated issue:
If I wait an extended time between listening to music, usually 20+ hours, for the first minute or so I hear a little bit of static and then it clears up and doesn't happen until the next day.
Info about the phone:
I bought the phone new on eBay at the end of September, the 28th.
The only modification done to it is doing the latest VooDoo lagfix from the link below(I did this within two weeks of having the phone, and it worked fine):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784170
Aside from that, the phone is completely stock running the latest OTA update.
I am using a GoPhone SIM card that has never given me any issues before.
Kernel Version: 2.6.29 voodoo_lagfix_3.0_v1.10
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Build: ECLAIR.UCJH7
Baseband: I897UCJH7
My Background
This is only my second Android phone, coming from the myTouch 3g. I have had the same SIM card for years. Now I have the Captivate, and this is the first time it has given me this kind of problem. I have experience flashing ROM's and all that, I just wanted to wait for an official update for the Captivate to see if GPS gets improved.
I hope I have provided enough information to diagnose the problem, let me know if there is anything else you need to know and thanks for your time.
Side note if this can't be resolved with you guys:
Would I be able to call up Samsung and get a replacement from them?

Probably why it was sold on Ebay in the first place. Just a shot in the dark, maybe the speaker connection is loose? There are a few threads about taking the phone apart if you are so inclined.
Can't see how it would be a warranty, you bought it through a third party. Could always try.

I did think something like that at first, but every other sound works fine and when it is supposed to(startup sounds, games, etc.). And I would think if it's a loose connection that shaking the phone or moving it around would make sound cut out, but it doesn't.
I figured the manufacturer warranty wouldn't apply, but I have gotten warranty replacements in the past on other electronics from eBay. So maybe a little fibbing will be in order to receive another unit.
I'm thinking it is something software, I have no clue what, I haven't made any major software additions or changes since yesterday. But if all else fails I will try changing to a different ROM and if that fails, get a replacement from Samsung.
I would try flashing again.....and running that kernel....kinda makes your phone far from stock...
For some reason the issue has stopped. I only did a few things, I powered off the phone, turned it on with the 3-button combo, and then restarted the phone from that menu. After the restart, I reassigned the notification tones and ringtones to what they were(my personal choices, not system sounds) and it seems to work.
I will probably wait a few days to see if it occurs again, and if it does, I will move on to a ROM from the Dev section because I am convinced its just some apps conflicting with each other.

I figured that was a minor modification, so i just counted it as stock, but I see what you're saying.
Hi everyone!
I've got a question for you all about my Samsung Galaxy + (GT19001) is acting rather weirdly. I'm no native speaker of English and I'm not familiar with the terminology (since I'm a noob and don't really understand computer thingeys) so I'd like the answer of a few experts before I lose my temper and buy a new phone all together.
Here's the thing. A few weeks ago, I got this phone from my father. He's too old for this technology, he didn't understand it. Hence, I took it from him. But... A few hours ago, I dropped it.
yes... I dropped it. The phone looked fine, I booted the system again, I received a connection to the internet and I got a connection with my sim card, so all seemed fine. BUT; later this evening I wanted to find something on the internet and I noticed this rather strange behaviour. I wouldn't say that my phone is in a loop, but this is what happened:
- the touch screen became really anxious and in the half of the time just touching the screen may result in making pictures. (....?)
- If that isn't annoying enough, the phone works just fine, as long as you touch the screen. So, what happens is that the phone makes a lot of pictures and when you let go, the phone returns to the start screen. That doesn't mean that the phone is rebooting, but it means that it returns to the first screen (on the same wall you'd also place your widgets and maps and stuff). This doesn't make any sense. I reasoned that it was due to a bug and I decided to reboot the whole system. Didn't work. Nextly, I can't get any access to Samsung Kies or Samsung Odin because "the server is unavailable 4100".
It's a real nuisance because currently we don't have any internet connection (because the connection from the provider broke down during a storm >>>>), but as you see, I'm still able to connect my laptop via USB to my phone and I can still access the internet. I don't get it.
So, there are two things I'd like to know. What's going on? Is this failure the result of me dropping the phone? And if this isn't the case, how on earth do I fix it?
Thanks for your answers
Well I don't think it's related to dropping your phone because if it were then why all of this is happening now, it should have been happened earlier. Could be because of a malware. A soft reset will do the work.
It seems to be slightly damaged by dropping.
Send it to Samsung service and they will fix it for you.

Basically this should have been posted in the i9001 Q&A here, as there was a BUG in some Roms in i9001 that caused such behavior for which there is a patch, to resolve
sorry my memory is running out: due to age. try asking there for correct response.

Hello lovely people of XDA.
Both my wife and me have the Z1, i for my part have experienced screen self cracking and now she is experiencing touch malfunction.
It acts out from time to time, making typing a pain in the a** and playing games even more dificult.
F.ex. if she presses the F key, it registers the D etc.
Ive made a video of this availible here:
http://youtu.be/McGnrGfVpq8 (Sorry about the music, but there was too mutch background noise).
This happens on the home screen, during Candy Crush(yeah i know) and during texting.
Ive repaired the phone twice(previous and newest firmware) via Sony PC Software and still its no good.
It even acted out on the first boot.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this?
Can't seem too find any solution.

Theres a well documented thread about touchscreen issues, I myself was one of the people it affected, your problem sounds slightly different.
The method to test was put the phone on a flat surface and make contact with the screen, move around and if you notice a break in contact then you more than likely have the bug.
Holding the metal frame of the phone in your hand eradicated the issue for some (me included) but it was certainly a pain.
My problem went away on it's own but some weren't so lucky.
Have a search for the thread in here, it's more than likely still active.
If nothing helps from that thread then it's more than likely a case of doing a warranty repair. (if it's the same issue)
Hello there and thank you for your reply.
As it seems to me there has been no solution to the problem, ive tried holding the phone without a case and the problem persist.
People are talking about the new update fixing it, but ive tried both updating and reseting the phone so that did not do anything.
It seems like the only thing to do is to send it in for a warranty repair.
With my self cracking the workshop told me that some of the frames where faulty placed in the factory and therefore might crack the screen after a long time under pressure.
Perhaps this is related somehow, though it feels and looks like a software bug.
Thank you for your reply, i'll be sure to keep a look out on that thread. (i found it now, but i could not find it before i posted this :S)
Thanks again
The kitkat update was rumored to remedy these touch screen issues. Have you updated? My C6906 was giving me occasional touch screen issues but they are non-existent after updating.
Sent from my C6906 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes i have installed Kit Kat, seemed to help at first but started acting out again the same day.
I even did a factory reset with newest firmware downloaded through PC Companion.
I'll keep looking around and post my findings.(If any)
Update:
So we both sent our phones to the service center and sold them right afterwards. Could not find a solution for the problem and the service center ended up replacing my handset and my wifes screen.
I now have a Nexus 6(it's so fantastic!) and she has an iPhone6 plus(Blaaarh...)...
AT&T Galaxy S3, unrooted, stock rom 4.4.2.
So yesterday on my way out of the office, I noticed that Accuweather said it was 95 degrees outside but the weather card on my Gear Live said it was 72. Weird, but whatever.
On the way home my wife sent me a chat via hangouts, and I replied using voice from the watch.
At home about a half hour later, I tried to set a reminder using "ok, google"....and nothing happened. Tried 7 or 8 times to get the watch to recognize the command with no luck. So then I tapped the watch face to try to get it to start listening so I could set a reminder and it couldn't hear me. It just went to the list of commands. Now even in hangouts it doesn't recognize that I'm speaking.
I'm using the Google Now Launcher on my GS3. I have Ok Google Everywhere turned on there, and in the voice search widget I can see the microphone icon go to "deactivated" when I do the wrist gesture thing on the watch to get it to start listening to me.
It's almost like my microphone hardware went bad
I've rebooted the watch several times and the phone as well. I am using Airwatch MDM and it was updated July 31st. I am not sure if "Ok, Google" has worked since then because I'm not sure I used it this weekend.
I think my next steps are to remove Airwatch to eliminate that variable, but it's required for me to get my work email and calendar on my phone.
Anyone else had a similar problem? Any suggestions?
I had something similar happen to me a few weeks ago. I would say "OK google" and nothing happened. After a couple of hours though, it started working and hasn't happened since.

So--in this order--I've reset the watch, removed Airwatch, decrypted the phone, reinstalled the Wear app....and I got nothin.
Paired it with another phone and same thing.
Called Google, went through all that again while on the phone with a tech (bless her heart, it can't be easy being tech support for a brand new product that pretty much only technophiles buy).
40 minutes later...She had to pass it on to level 3 or whatever, and I'm expecting to be contacted within 48 hours.
I'm having the same issue. Did you get any solution?

I hope it's not a hardware issue.
I had a similar issue (voice completely stopped worked... ok google, as well as touching the screen and then giving a command). I did a complete device reset twice, as well as used the toolkit to wipe/reinstall. Nothing fixed it. Called google, who just confirmed that I did everything they would have, and had a new device shipped out to me. I have to return the broken one. Called them Monday morning and had the new device Tuesday afternoon

So I, too, called google and they shipped me a new watch under warranty. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's had this problem, BUT....
Now my *NEW* watch has done the same thing!

I too am on my third watch being shipped out today in fact. New one worked just fine for 2 weeks and then no microphone at all even after a compete device reset.
Add one more to the list. Just got off the phone with Google, sending me a new watch. I am admittedly a bit nervous, hearing that even the replacements are having the same issue. I wonder what the refund protocol would be in that case?
Just an FYI for anyone down the road, they do put a hold on your card for the cost of the watch, and say it will be released "within 21 days" of receiving the defective unit.

I was told if the 3rd one had any issues whatsoever they would issue a refund. Just an FYI
Same here.... It is randomly working for me.... Most of the times it does not work.
I have reset the watch 3 times already and seems to be working for some minutes and then it stops working again
Looking back at my calendar, I was in an extremely loud (hearing protection required) environment the day before i noticed my first watch failed and immediately before the second one failed.
I don't see anything in the manual or warranty that indicates this is a problem, but I now suspect the mic couldn't handle it.

Interesting theory... I work in a shop where hearing protection is required, plus I go shooting at an indoor gun range. I don't remember if either prior warranty replacement happened right after extended time on the shop floor or shooting range, but i'll keep it in mind.

I think you are right. Number 3 no longer works after I went to the range today...
I went to the shooting range yesterday and had to exchange my Gear Live at Best Buy today. The microphone clearly can't take the SPL. I would suggest not wearing your Gear Live in any environment that requires hearing protection.

Mine quit responding after I went shooting. My second stopped after using a saws all.
Same problem, but don't think it's hardware...
First watch I had was dead out the box. Second one was fine for a month, then occasionally it would stop listening to voice commands. Sometimes "OK google" would work, other times not. Then later it would work again. No reset or charging or any interruption between it working and not. Sometimes when "OK google works, the "speak now" screen would come up, but it would no longer listen - so it can't be a hardware thing since it heard me immediately before it stopped working, and in fact I can go back to the watch face, say "OK google" again, it'll go to the "speak now" screen, and again won't respond. Also, when it's on the "speak now" screen, after a pause it just scrolls down to the next option in the menu ("take a note", "Play music" etc). I haven't used it anywhere loud (no gun ranges or anything), and the problem is sporadic, but frequent enough to be unusable as it should be. I did all the usual to try to fix the problem (re-pairing, removing apps, resetting, restarting, including a factory reset) but to no avail.
I have sent it back for another replacement ($200 temporarily on my card...), but I'm worried about this problem, and the dead out of the box issue. If it happens again, I'm going to get a refund, and choose another watch. Such a shame because this was a Christmas gift for me.
Same problem
I was looking for someone with the same problem as mine and found this post. Happens exactly the same for me and, reading your answers I realized the microphone stopped working the day after I went to a shooting range too. In real my voice commands do not stop working at all, but I have to SCREAM besides the watch to work.
My problem is, I live in Brazil, and bought a used watch during a business trip to the USA, than I don't have the coupon, or warranty. Anyone knows if it is possible to change only the microphone? seems difficult to replace welds on this boards. I guess will I have to replace the complete main board. Does someone have done that already? It is hard to find replacement parts for these watches...

Just to complete the information, according to IFixIt (www .ifixit .com/ Teardown/Samsung+Gear+Live+Teardown/27038 - remove the spaces on the beggining of the link), the microphone is a InvenSense ICS-43430 (I don't know how they know that, because on the picture, over the mic is written NL2031).
Considering this is the right component, it is really cheap to buy a replacement - store .invensense .com/ProductDetail/ICS43430-InvenSense-Inc/495200
Than lasts only the final question. It is possible to replace this component? People who gave cell phone assistance should be able to do that?
same here.
Count me in. The microphone stop, working about after 3 weeks. The problem is I live in Greece and i bought it through ebay from US so no documents nothing. Isnthere any solution on this?
Hi all
More than a month ago I sent my z3c to assistance because the magnetic charger sideburn was unsticking.
It came back a week later with a new one, all was perfect looking. But then a new problem appeared.
In the next days people started telling me that my voice was too weak during calls. I decided to check and have some tests. I found that my the voice at the other side of the call was really too weak and too low, not consistant, with interruptions, and that when i try to activate the speaker, it gets even worse. They can hear a loud background noise and the return of their voice, plus others rumors, with the result that having a normal call is almost impossible.
Since that moment, I already sent my phone twice to the service summing up to 4 times, (the first was this summer for the sim flap which couldn't close). I'm sending them emails every time explaining the problem; once they made an electrical fix, the second time they changed the logicboard, but the problem is still there.
I'd like to know if some of you has or had the same problem and how they fixed it. I asked to change mine with another but it seems like they don't want to.
It's always been stock, i don't think another rom could fix the problem
I want my phone operative... I even had to buy something else in the meantime otherwise i would have been for more than a month without a phone (I bought a OPX )
Thank you for the attention
Anyone?
