[Q] After rooting and flashing question - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not sure how to search this, so if it has been asked before, my apologies.
I am planning on rooting my Nook HD+ and putting a CM10.1 nightly (yay for official support!) on it. My question is this, I have a few books on my Nook that I purchased from B&N. I was wondering if the B&N app lets me still use these while I'm running CM 10.1 or if I'm S.O.L. and going to lose them. I know side loaded books I can find a reader on the Play Store and not have an issue there. Thanks for your help guys, I much appreciate it.

Yes the Nook android app will retrieve your purchased books. But the trick is going to be installing the Nook android app on CM10.1. It will not install from Play Store. You have to find the app somewhere else and sideload it. Another way is to use the 1mobile.com store. It lets you install it.

Awesome, thanks a bunch!

I don't know how it happened, but somehow it seems as though my Nook will only boot to CVM 10.1 when I have the bootable sd card in it. Will I need to keep it in there or did I royally mess something up? Thanks, I got straight onto the struggle bus, kicked the driver off, and went for a joyride with this.

[Q] Most Stable ROM?

Alright guys. I'm about to buy a Nook Color, but I want to be able to flash something that's not stock onto it (aka, nookie froyo or similar). My question is what's the most stable rom out there for the nook color that has everything working (FM Radio/bluetooth is not a big deal). I see Cyanogen's nightlys are coming along nicely, but I fear the nightly's lack features and I can't find a simple change log or list of functional/not functional. I don't care if it crashes once and a while, as long as the hardware works. I've been looking at either nookie froyo or cyanogenmod nightlies. Whaddya think?
I vote for this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=938200
1. Video works (unlike CM7 or HC)
2. Flash works (unlike stock)
3. Use the v.0.0.5 softkeys theme:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944278
And its perfectly usable!
Nookie Froyo 0.6.8 w/ the 1.1 GHz kernel is my daily driver now.

I think this is what i'm going with when my nook color arrives.
is it as easy as the instructions sound? burn the image to sd card boot into it and install? no need to root first?
Does the accelerometer work on nook froyo. I tried it on the SD card and it was not functional a while back.

poofyhairguy> what is the benefit of v.0.0.5 softkeys theme please? is it just cosmectic?
Using nookie froyo completly replace the original stock rom? if i had Market issue using stock 1.1 autonootered it save my searching time..

No, its more than cosmetic. It puts a back button and a menu button on your status bar, like Honeycomb has. It really helps a lot considering the NC lacks those buttons.

If you use the eMMC version, yes.
So the idea is to install froyo in the first link (burning SD card with CWR, Etc...) then apply softkey theme? Using the same CWR i suppose?
"If you use the eMMC version" is the one on your first link?
Q: Do you have access to the NC internal memory as storage for video and music with froyo?

No. Install Froyo, boot into it then use its Rom Manager to install the theme. Don't use the SD for the theme.

ps: about the theme, this can be uninstalled if i don't like?

If you have a decent speed SD card, try a ROM bootable from SD card such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922324 and see if you like it. Do not bother class 2 or class 4 cards - they are not fast enough in my experience which results in a lot of bugs such as wifi not working, random FC, etc.
I am personally very happy with CM7, but I am not watching videos on Nook.
about cm7, you can watch video using vitalplayer or vplayer no? just using the cpu horsepower?
grmph, all was working. Turn off the nook and now stuck on "touch the futur of reading screen".
boot on the recovery sd works, so if someone has an idea..

Yep, you can use CPU decoding.
Wow. Thanks guys. I plan on picking one of these buggers up today, since I just got my paycheck and also have some b-day money to spend . Can't wait for Honeycomb to go open source so that it can be ported over without a bunch of ugly hacks and work-arounds.

Can you format the SD (for storage of music, etc) with the Nook after Nookie Froyo eMMc installed?

To solve try this- next time it happens turn off then when rebooting hold down power, n button and volume up- that should bring you to CWM- reboot from there- let me know if that works

[Q] chrome on root stock hd or hd+

I thought the version of android on the nook hd and hd+ was 4.0 or higher, but I downloaded chrome for ics and couldn't get it to work. Is it possible to have chrome on the stock root hd+ and if so, where can I download it? thank you.

Several have reported it does not work for them, even though the HD is ics. Other Google apps fail some way or another. Google Voice crashes, and Gmail will not sync.

I got Chrome to work on my HD+. I didn't do anything special but download and install. I must say it has some things which keep it from being my favorite which currently is Dolphin. Many of the websites on my favorites list use "Flash" to display content and Android Chrome does not support Flash.

Yeah, strange, I sideloaded the version I got from my Galaxy Nexus and it works fine on my HD+. Think it even updated once: ver 18.0.1025469

[Q] Wanting to Upgrade from CM10.2

I'm running a rooted Nook HD+ . I have CM 10.2-20131102-SNAPSHOT-M1 Ovation.
Everything is running perfectly fine and I love the battery life and getting rid of all the bloat from B&N. I do want to update the Nightlies and when new stable versions come out. My question was do I need an SD CARD to do this? Does the SD Card still need to be a bootable one?
I noticed that under about and CM Updates I can download an update. If I download and just let it install will that cause any errors? Or can I just put the rom and gapps on a sd card and flash them (( like I have done with the Galaxy S3 and other android devices)) on the Nook Hd+ since I'm already rooted?
Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
If you installed CWM or TWRP to internal memory you can update to CM10.2 without an SD. But there is an issue if you use the cmupdater to do it. The issue is where cmupdater puts the file versus where CWM/TWRP expects it to be. See the Dummies thread for an explanation. See the note at the bottom of the first post in that thread.

Im not sure if you know but there is a stable 10.2.1 that was released thst i am running now. It works great. I am on a hd im not sure if its available for hd+ yet.
I like this build and have had no issues. I updated threw the cm updater in settings. I did have issue with google play but flashed newer version then did a factory restore and runs with no issues. I woild recomend a restore after each update over earlier version.
If u are speaking of going from 10.2 to cm 11 well, thats a different matter

Old Nook HD+ needs updating help please

Hi,
I bought a couple of Nook HD+s and rooted them with CM one for me one for my Dad. I have long since replaced mine but my Dads was running CM 10.1.3, 10.2.1 was downloaded in update section. THis was installed and now google won't work, I mean gmail, google play etc. So with what's gone on with CM and that I haven't rooted anything for ages I could do with some advice.
I can root it again but with what and how?
What do people recommend?
Thanks

See https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/help/best-nook-hd-daily-driver-2017-t3539504 for some discussion on which version of CMs to consider, and https://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=434844356 for potentially relevant guides on how to upgrade to newer CM versions.
I hadn't spotted the first, someone in the same situation almost, the second link doesn't work but I'll find it.
Thanks
