Hi. My win7 64 bit computer doesn't work flashtool application.
I can't root my .244 version xperia z.
How can i flash .ftf files without flashtool?
Please help me.
Can't flash it otherwise.
Any idea of why Flashtool doesn't work? Already installed the drivers? Java RE? Checked with another USB cable? Have the latest version?
I Installed drivers Xperia Z.

I've tested with another USb cable, same thing.
It's my error;
Have you tried another version of Flashtool?

I tried. it says same error.
I've always had the same error on Windows 7&8. Often a driver conflict! Nothing you can do there. Just use a different pc

Hi guys
looked everywhere for help on the issue i am having and no success
i have an xperia z on o2 current version on this is 244 as i have just purchased it.
i have flash tools and been trying to flash it back to 423 and does everything it should from what it says phone reboots and when i go into settings same version is there 244....
HELP
Why are you trying to flash an older software version? 244 is the latest software version available and is much more stable than 423.
Anyway, if you really want to do so, follow this guide - How to flash stock roms with Flashtool

If you were following this guide to root 244 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386405, then all that would change is the kernel, not the software version. That is why your phone still reported 244 as the software version after you had flashed the 423 kernel.

You can't flash ftf(flashtool file) without flashtool. You screwed up something. I have Win 7 64bit and flashtool is running smoothly. Just uninstall flashtool, drivers reboot computer and install everything once again.

Can you confirm if bin4ry's root method works for this firmware or do you need to unlock the bootloader and flash advanced stock kernel to gain root as we have to do on the T with 7.0.A.3.195
Just tried Binary method, stays on running forever. Installed Advanced kernal. This is off topic but how do I root with advanced kernal installed?

7.0.A.3.195 is exactly the same and available in multiple FTF's and for most people even on Update Service.
A minor version increase with 2 is absolutely not worth flashing for.
Anyone flashed this FTF?
I flashed it and my TX died, luckily my boot loader is closed so I repaired it through SUS.
I keep hearing that the update gave tx a boost from 5000 to 5800 roughly.
Im not a tech guy or anything, but mine is sitting at 5400 after the update. Does the quadrant even matters? Not every chip is the same, does that show that my chip is slower than some others?
My apologies if I'm asking a stupid question.
Thanks guys!

Personally all benchmark tests are meaningless and should be taken with a pinch of salt. What matters is how it operates day to day. I've yet to take a benchmark result I've seen seriously because I think it's pointless for mobile phones, but that's just me while others love to moan their figures aren't what the reviews got blah blah blah. Basically if the phone is working fine for you ignore benchmarks as they're not going to be able to give you a realistic measure of anything you'd do in day to day use.

When you get to step 6 tick all three boxes under Wipe and leave all boxes under Exclude unchecked.

I did. Now I'm rooted and on 4.2.2. Follow the instructions on the thread. It works very well.
hmm after receiving my device the first thing I did was to update it to 4.2.2 (fw 2.67). Unfortunately I had to downgrade to .310 for being able to gain root with doomlord's toolkit. VRoot doesn't work for me as for an unknown reason it keeps loading like it doesn't detect the device. However unlockroot detects it, but can't get shell root.
Another strange thing is that flashtool always returns that USB debug is OFF although it's ON and well set (connectivity etc..), but I'm still able to flash despite that.
Now the question is, will the root survive to an update...

BTW you have to manually install BusyBox after rooting w/ Vroot.

I noticed that you are using Vroot 1.6. A user on another thread for ZR reported that the phone is not detected in the Vroot 1.6.

If you are on .136 you can't root directly with apps like Vroot or 360. The only way to root your phone is the method of NUT here: Root 4.3
The method is for Locked Bootlader so you will not lose anything, even the Warranty, just read carefully and follow the instructions.
Is this correct?

There is no other ways and,
Flashtool is an Application to flash FTFs.
XZDual Recovery is a Recovery and have to be flashed on Z1.
FW .290 is a Firmware like .136.
..and Yes, you missing stuff, all is on XDA, just search.
Again, if you want Rooted .136 you have to follow and read carefully what to do on that thread.
If you don't want to have Rooted Phone but you just don't like bloatware on your phone then Flash a generic Unbranded FTF .136 via Flashtool and you are done.
Ok, I'll try that post.
Thanks for your help and patience.

There will be no direct Root because Google made Android more secure so if you want to root you have to start understand first what you have to do. Starting from here and watching the Video where all explain. You have just use Flashtool and downdrade to .534 then Root and make all the steps. Nobody will do it for you.

Usually the rom comes with a kernel that includes the correct recovery -
- Extract the boot.img from the rom zip that you want to flash.
- Flash that with fastboot or use the fastboot mode in Flashtool if you're not comfortable with using the command line.
- Boot into recovery and flash the rom.

Is it possible to flash the kernel.sin for the same effect from stock ftf-s?
Stock kernels do not have a custom recovery.

I dont want a custom recovery I want to OTA after removing a custom recovery and I want to do it without flashing my entire system.
Basically I'm asking you if the ORIGINAL STOCK RECOVERY is flashable with kernel.sin
Then explain yourself better in the first place. You said the same effect. This is a different question altogether.
Just flash a stock FTF using Flashtool and exclude everything but the kernel.

I think there is something wrong with my PMs,or nobody wants to answer me...
Anyway I got one last question, can I flash the kernel from a generic spanish ftf that is the same version as my Vodafone DE stock rom (obviously they are the same version just different customisations).
Yes, you can.
Edit - There's nothing wrong with the PM system. I'm just not sat here all day waiting for people to PM me questions.

I flashed it,it worked and all,but OTA still wont go trough
What the hell is stopping it ffs
It depends. If your bootloader is unlocked, you need to relock it to update OTA. Sometimes if you modified /system in any way (like deleting system apps, flashing mods etc), an OTA will fail.

Yeah, bootloader is locked, didnt delete any system apps,no mods flashed except superSU...when I look at the update logs it shows a redbend_verify error and ua_updater start error. If only there was a way I can logcat the actual update and see what the hell it's checking.
Lock your bl and check again then you can search what is what
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app

Nope.
The OTA failed multiple times for me when I was only rooted as well. In the end, I just flashed the update with Flashtool and unlocked my bootloader to root. It was quicker than messing around trying to get the OTA to work.

I flashed the generic DE ftf except I didn't wipe data. Now I have a weird hybrid, but everyting works, lost root but used some japanese rootkit and got that back. Then wiped data on the update app and got a whole new update,10.4.B.0.569 and tried to install it...Of course it didn't work!
Now the problem is either in the Data partition or root is the problem. Most likely I'm gonna try without root and then if it works I'm gonna try the insanely complicated 4.3 root with bootloader relocking and all that ****
Edit: Btw It's weird,I'm looking at the update logs and it says Rooting not done

Unrooted the phone and still the update fails...so its probably not the root
