Hi guys. I have a I9000 and i want to install the CyanogenMod 9 on it. I`ve Already rooted my phone using the Unlock Root. However, I can`t go to the Clockworkmod recovery to install customs rooms. I tried to flash the CWM recovery using the Rom Manager app, but when i was installing, an error happened. I figured out that the problem is my kernel that is not compatible with the CWM. I know that i have to flash a compatible kernel using Odin, but which kernel should i flash??? My device is a Galaxy S I9000, 2.3.5 android, and 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVT-CL617736 kernel. Already rooted. Please someone could help me??
Thank you so much
Don't use rom manager, use Odin to flash, CWM is bundled with rooted kernel (CF-root, Semaphore)

Most important is to start making a backup of files in /efs folder in case of IMEI loss after some flash job.

Hi, I have the same error problem, cf root was not bundled with my own root package. I flashed to gingerbread 2.3.6 xwjw1, I also tried rom manager to flash recovery and it was successful, but when I rebooted to recovery to backup my current rom it bootes to the android (3e) recovery. As I've discovered it seems rom manager is not compatible with the xwjw1 series. How do I get the correct cf root for xwjw1? Believe me I have tried google and am scared of the things I see since "jw1" is not behind any of the cf root packages I see. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

On xwjw1 you can Odin flash as PDA Semaphore 250 tar kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14481782
Untick re-partition before flashing.
After reboot you may need to install Superuser from Play Store.
That will give you root, CWM, gingerbread ready for CM9.1

Use Odin to flash (put .tar in PDA and uncheck repartition). You can flash Semaphore JVT 1.8.0 or CF-Root v4.3

Thanks Sunny men, but OT's advice worked, I can now boot to semaphore recovery and wipe etc.
Question though, if I now flash cm9.1 rom, will I be able to boot to recovery without the holding any button combinations. What I mean is can I boot to recovery from the shutdown menu or do I need an app for it?
Also is cm9.1 the best rom for my phone? any thots guys? Thanks again.

Yes, in CM 9.1 you can boot directly to recovery from the shutdown menu. CM 9.1 is very stable and fast, so try it. And when you flash CM9 for the first time, your galaxy will go into a bootloop. Then remove the battery, put it in, go to recovery with 3-button configuration and flash it again.

Thanks sin007, that is invaluable advice. Will do just that. thanks again.
Hi guys, thanks for all the help. I have flashed CM 9.1 successfully.
Everything works OK for now.
Also flashed gapps, CM 9.1 seems to be a great ROM.
I have a question though, the gapps I flashed seems to have only a few Google apps, play store and Google talk. The file size was 49mb so is that all that's in gapps or is there a hidden mode or something.
Also, sin007 I can't find any reboot to recovery from the shutdown menu, though I flashed a stable version of CM 9.1 and not a "nighty version". Could that be the reason? But no biggie, CM 9.1 comes with rom manager.
Finally I wouldn't mind any tips you guys have on making the most out of the ROM.
Thanks and all the best.
Shutdown menu - Reboot - Recovery
OK?
There is an APP on google play, sgs kernel flash, it is easier and faster than Odin. And works perfectly. I've flash the speedmod kernel and finally upgrade to cyanogenmod 9.1.
Anyone knows if this APP works on galaxy s2 (i9100)?
Thankss

I have a problem though, I just discovered my phone's imei number has changed after I flashed cyanogenMOD 9.1. How is this possible and how do I get back my original imei number?. Thanks.

Hi I was using NIK's Project X v4.1 on INCS for quite some time, on which the wifi was working properly, than I changed the rom to Sabsa Prime v14.0 after which my wifi stopped working and showing me an error sign and not starting... so than i went to ViperVIVO_2.1.4 and there also the wifi shows the same error message. Thus to check I restored to my backup of NIK's Porject X 4.1 where my wifi started working, so I again went back to ViperVIVO_2.1.4 in which still the wifi error is showing. I read somewhere that this due to kernel issue, so I flashed Redux_0.3_ProjectX kernel and after that Kernel_Redux_0.8_ViperIncS_boot.img but still wifi is not working. please help... I am on Android Version 4.0.4, HTC Sense version 4.0, with kernel 3.01 16-g693e8e9 [email protected]#1 PREEMPT with baseband version 20.4802.30.0822U_3822.10.08.28_M. I have rooted the phone with HTC dev unlocked with S-on. Thanks in advance

Because your phone is s-on you need to fastboot flash boot boot.img
When you flash a zip you are installing wifi drivers/files but the kernel cannot call upon them because it is not the right one for that kernel.
Reflash whatever rom you have, then take out the boot.img from the rom zip and flash it via fastboot (google fastboot flash boot boot.img and it should tell you)
Basically you are flashing everything but the kernel. HTC unlock doesn't let you flash the kernel in recovery. I know this because your kernel version should say something like 3.0.46-redux or something like that
Hey Mark, thanks for the quick reply, when I was on NIK Project X 4.1 my kernel was 3.0.16-g693e8e9 [email protected]#1 and now its 3.01 16-g693e8e9 [email protected]#1 PREEMPT. Can you please explain as what I should flash first than what and when to wipe the cache and dalvik cache???

That would be right.
1. go to recovery and flash the ROM of your choice
2. Wipe cache and dalvik cache
3. From recovery after you flash it, boot it to bootloader
4. Using fastboot, whilst in bootloader mode flash your boot.img (from the ROM you flashed). If you don't know how to do it, google it cause there is plenty of information about that
5. Reboot
Thanks once again Mark. I know how to flash the img file. For the past 10 minutes I am stuck at sending the recovery files on my computer as I was flashing the recovery img, thus going from CWM to 4ext... is this normal i.e. does flashing take such a long time, as I dont remember flashing taking such a long time...

Why are you sending recovery? You only need to flash boot.img from your computer. You flash the ROM from your phone in recovery

I just upgraded again to 4.04 (viper ROM) and flashed boot.img but still wifi doesn't turn on? any suggestion ?
its a kernel problem... if i remember correctly there is a thread in the viper vivo section wherein someone has mentioned how to get the wifi working.. you just need flash the kernels... please check that thread and it wifi will work...
All the best!!
Wifi error
Many a time this error occurs because people don't format the system, due to Kernel issue.
Make sure you always format /system in advanced in recovery. (Especially when coming from a Sense Rom)
Also, S-on guys make sure you push the boot.img file manually everytime you flash a new rom.
This is definitely a kernel problem. I always format the system and have had this problem with some kernels, in particular the z13 kernel. Z14 is out now and it doesn't occur.
Hi Guys,
I have s3 GT-I9305, android version 4.1.2, baseband version I9305XXBLL5. Australian model for Optus.
I successfully rooted and installed Philz_Touch_6.19.3 _ After that I could do Nandroid online backup and confirm it is rooted.
When I tried to flash custom ROM today - I found I can't boot in CWM/Philz recovery mode. Then I tried to different version of Philz/CWM and TWRP but none worked. It keeps booting in stock recovery mode- I get message as shown in attached image.
PS: I have USB diagnosis checked but haven't unlocked boot loader?
to be specific: my phone works fine - boots fine - It is just I want to load custom rom and it won't go to custom recovery and I can't load custom ROM.
Thanks.
HELP!
can anyone please help me out here!
I kept searching and found some solution but none worked.
I used triangle away. - didn't work
Installed custom recovery without checking auto reset and started after pulling battery out. - didn't work
It still boot in odin mode and I can't go to custom recovery
i have the same problem too when i got my phone flashed 3rd recovery last year,
the stock recovery can automaticly restore itself after reboot~
but i found the solution here in xda, just flash a zip to unlock the self-protection of the stock recovery~
i will tell you the link and the attachment several hours later after my work,if you cannt wait, you can search it here, maybe you can find it yourself.

even after you flash a custom recovery...your phone will automatically flash stock recovery every time it reboots...so that's why you will get into stock even if you flash CWM/TWRP or what you like.....

try to flash the "Remove-boot-recovery.p.zip",it will work..
good luck

Done
Thanks guys.
Above solution didn't work for me but I got it working through rom manager App. I reboot to recovery through ROM Manager and it worked.
How ever After I installed Pacman rom, I couldn't use App as there were no Gapps and wouldn't boot to recovery. The workaround here was to press home, volume up and lock button simultaneously and release it after few second and it will go to custom recovery.
In the end, I am on Pacman Nightly 06/04/2014 with Philz touch recovery.
So, as you can see, the title is bit weird and that is what happened, I've unlocked the bootloader because I wanted to install 4.4 custom rom. I did everything, rooted the phone, installed recovery and went into it, but when I chose the rom (first it was Cyanogenmod 11, then I tried Carbon) I got the message that my phone is not 'hayabusa' but it is 'mint'. I don't know what to do, it is clearly TX, it was TX (hayabusa).

Make sure the ROM you're trying to install is in fact for your phone. This will let you flash it:

That should do it, thanks. I have one more question, if you don't mind. I can't post in Carbon's thread as I don't have 10 posts yet, so I'd be grateful if you could help me with this problem too. When I'm installing Carbon, I have to flash kernel and then install the rom from recovery, but if I flash kernel I can't go into recovery anymore.

If the ROM comes with a kernel, there is no need to flash one separately. Carbon, as do most ROMs, comes with a kernel; you'd just have to open the zip file and you'd know.
If you can't get into recovery, then you're most likely flashing the wrong kernel, or a kernel without a recovery. If you already have a recovery, just flash the ROM through the recovery. Which kernel are you flashing?

That is really annoying but what can you do. They might give you warning because of this.
So basically I unlocked my mi 8 and tried some of the roms and kernels. First I flashed the twrp recovery. I flashed two roms. After that I forget about the zip that disables the verification, I got the popular issue where the recovery doesn't open after flashing it. Then I found the solution and installed the official rom via fastboot, then I flashed the recovery the proper way. Everything was fine, I flashed the official pie 9 rom again, I also flashed the eXtremeKernel V2. Later I noticed that when I open the camera it doesn't show anything on it. I tried using a third party camera app (OpenCamera) it didn't worked either. I'm sorry for the way I wrote it (it's a bit unlogical) but I hope someone can help me out with this. Thanks
Flash last official rom via mi flash (!!!!!! CHANGE CHECKBOX FROM CLEAN ALL AND LOCK TO CLEAN ALL!!!). Load installed ROM and open camera, if it's working go to flash costum ROM. And it's should work without problems.
Thanks for help I tried that but it's not working :/
