Sorry if this question is bad... I tried some serching but didn't see an obvious answer.
I have rooted, but not S-OFF'd my phone, and have no real desire to S-OFF, but I want to keep the OLD version of the "System Update."
I keep getting the Software Update: 1.29.651.10 notification.
Is there a way to turn this off? I am very happy with the ViperROM I have currently installed (1.0.4), but this damn notifiation won't stop showing up.
Is there an easy way to get this to stop coming up?
Or am I going to have to deal with it until I RUU to Stock it and then update to the newest viperROM?
Thanks.
It shows up every time I restart my phone, but I've just been long-pressing the notification in the drop-down menu, selecting "App info," then selecting "Force stop" so I at least don't have to see it constantly for the next few days before I restart again.

I would just do the update. I have used the latest (1.1.0), and it is just as good as 1.0.4.

You are going to have to edit your build prop to make it go away, you can download a editor from the market. Not sure exactly what you will need to change but there should be some threads about it. Just be careful when your editing & make a backup. I haven't had to do it for a long time, and when I did it was on a samsung phone for a friend. I believe you just change the software build # to match the newest version.

I've been messing around with my SGT SCH-1800, I've had no problems wiping it, flashing it, etc. I checked out SpaceMoose's alpha port of Honeycomb last night (gah, that theme is DARK).
I reflashed back to stock and restored my backed up apps, no biggie. My issue is, I forgot to unroot before attempting to install the EC02 update and it failed, and now my SGT says it's already up to date when I know damn well it's not. I know it'll check again in 3-4 days but I'd like the update now so I can reroot.
On the internet there's a hint that allows you to force an update check by dialing #*#*CHECKIN*#*# in the dialer, but since I've got the neutered US version, the dialer is disabled. Is there any way to either a) enable the use of the dialer even though I can't and do not intend to actually make calls or b) trigger the update check some other way?
Thanks in advance.
Funny, never heard of the checkin.
Ps it's the other way around" *#*#checkin#*#*
Mine gave only "checkin succeeded" in the not.bar.
Try T9-dialer app from the market.

I have a tmous hd7 running 7712. HTC recently put out an attentive phone app that integrates into the settings menu of the hd7. Once the app finishes downloading, it disappears from the app list and a new settings category called attentive phone is created. Is there any way to remove the integrated app once installed? Long pressing the setting does not work.
Why u want to do that?

Personally, I don't use any of the settings in it. The menu gets in the way, takes a bit longer to load than other settings, and feels tacked on. Besides, given that putting your app in the settings menu merely requires modifying the hubtype in WMAppManifest.xml, developers or carriers could concievably write crapware apps that are unable to be uninstalled. We should at least have the freedom to uninstall the application

If you don't use it then why did you install it to begin with? lol. Also, its completely out of way, being in the settings menu. By far a better implementation that having it clog up the app list.
There is no official way to remove it. It needs to installed again, but without the modified hubtype, so that it'll appear in the regular app list by which it can then be uninstalled normally.
forget me, im an idiot
How does it slow down ur system? I don't get it, works fine for me.... This is reserved API, you cant use it to put apps in the menus, its only for oem. Get over it or do hard reset.

YOU ROCK! This is what I´ve been searching for!
to everyone: here you go, deploy this with Xapdeployx with force uninstall option, and you can delete it.
Cheers guys, just bumping this so that others with the same issue can find it quickly
I just installed the new "official" CM10.1 nightlies and everything is working great. The only thing that I've noticed is that in Settings > Status my phone number is "Unknown". When I go into Phone>Settings>Additional Settings>My Phone Number, I can set my number and it works fine. BUT, it won't survive a reboot. It just goes back to unknown after it's rebooted.
Having the number set in phone status allows group messaging to work so I would like to know, is there any ways to get these settings to save? Do I need to go to At&t and have them set the number on the SIM?
I tried to download "My Phone Number" in the Play store and I get the error "Application cannot be installed in the default install location."
Thanks!
I can confirm that I have it as unknown as well. My VM number was missing too that I entered manually but this is weird. Hope it gets resolved in the next update. I love how snappy the phone is though

Same here, but I can live with that for now. I tried quite a few of the other ROM,s , but they tended to have little glitches... this has been quite good so far.

Yeah this one has been great, only a few little glitches. I just want to get group messaging to work and everything will be perfect and I won't have to use stupid Go SMS or one of those ugly messaging apps. Really all I need is to get setting that my phone number setting to save.
So I think I actually fixed this! My number is being displayed after a couple reboots and the group messaging option is there in messaging settings.
This is what I did:
First you gotta install this Xposed framework apk: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
Then just hit install/update then reboot.
Now install this Xposed mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2106490
Install it, then go back into the xposed framework app, go to the modules tab, and check off the SIM number changer then go back and reboot.
When rebooted, go back into the app and tap the SIM number changer to change your number. Obviously I put my number down, I'm not sure how risky it is putting any other number in there. Now tap change it, then go to reboot again.
I have rebooted a few times and my number is still there under 'My Phone Number' in Phone Status. Try it out if you're having the same problems.
I have been trying to research a way to stop my Nexus 7 wifi grouper from constantly nagging me to upgrade to JellyBean 4.3. I find 4.3 rather underwhelming and the problems it has caused with flash crashing Dolphin or Xscope browsers almost constantly has left me no choice but to roll back to 4.2.2.
Now that I am content to stay with 4.2.2 I wanted to stop the constant upgrade notification and the process to do so isnt clearly laid out anywhere across many fragmented threads about it.
Here is how I disabled the upgrade prompt on the Nexus 7 grouper wifi 4.2.2 - You of course need to be rooted.
Get Autorun Manager from the market - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autorun&hl=en or http://goo.gl/xdLmO
Launch Autorun Manager, select Advanced mode.
Click the wrench, check off Show system entries and Enable system app disable.
Click the refresh icon to reload the process list.
Search for "systemupdate" and open the Google Services Framework entry.
Uncheck com.google.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$Receiver
Reboot your tablet and be nag free.
I am not certain at this point if this disables market app update notifications but I would rather manually check for app updates than be constantly nagged to upgrade android.
Edit - Market update notifications for apps is functioning normally.
Enjoy.
Worked like a champ....thx
With the imminent release of 4.4 for the Nexus I wanted to remind people of this procedure for the purpose of disabling the upgrade prompt or restoring it if you followed the above procedure in the past.

i read this might cause partial wakelocks.. is this true? I absolutely hate 4.4.. the ugly white color, single screen settings, unstable apps, etc etc
It's absolutely ridiculous how google is shoving its stupid updates down our throats.
+ i deleted the downloaded zip update.. but when i go to about tablet > system updates > it still reads that download is ready.. what does that mean? anyway to reset and clean that crap?
No problem with wake locks.
I actually didn't need to freeze the update file.. The reason I was receiving an OTA notification after sideloading 4.4 was that the update that was trying to push was the smaller update (KRT16S) that followed KitKat (KRT16O).. which I was unaware of at the time. I wish they would put the build # on the update screen.. instead it just read 'you have an update to KitKat'. I assumed it was the same ota update that I already sideloaded.. not something that was new.
Also not sure if there's a way to get rid of that info for a new update in the settings. You can remove the notification reminder.. but under system updates, it will always read that an update is waiting. Best advice.. Don't look at that screen lol.
Best way to fix the OTA nag.
Use the OTA...
I was just receiving the OTA nag as well . Went into TB and froze the Google Services Framework and the icon is gone.

Yeah... that will get the job done... but it will 'break' a lot of other stuff as well. Google Services Framework does much more than just handle OTA's... so, not a good idea.

Also go to settings > apps > Google services framework > un-tick show notifications. This stopped my stock unrooted nexus to nag me to update to 4.4

1. What other notifications might that also disable?
2. What is the file name of the 4.4 ota update and where can I find it so I can rename or delete it?
Thanks
After a reboot I got notification to update apps so It doesn't break playstore updates. Gmail, I can hear the sound when an email arrives but no notification. It will do for me, tho not sure if it's for everyone.

What about the one called
com.google.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$SecretCodeReceiver ?
Does that need to be disabled too, or does it do something unrelated?
Why not just make a copy of system/build.prop, and change the version to one that was never released, like 4.1.3?
Thanks OP.....this worked for me. I'm sticking to 4.2.2 stock and rooted now. And no more nag.

Work finally.
T'ks.

Any info on this?
I've waiting to see if anyone else is having this issue before posting but haven't seen it. I've been having this problem since I got the 6 and rooted ect, even on stock Rom. After some time, a day or less, when a new app prompts su for permission, I can't select allow. Also I can not longer side load an app. When it shows cancel or install, I can't select install, only cancel. Weirdest thing. I'm on my 3rd Rom, and it just started.
