Super user stops working - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've waiting to see if anyone else is having this issue before posting but haven't seen it. I've been having this problem since I got the 6 and rooted ect, even on stock Rom. After some time, a day or less, when a new app prompts su for permission, I can't select allow. Also I can not longer side load an app. When it shows cancel or install, I can't select install, only cancel. Weirdest thing. I'm on my 3rd Rom, and it just started.

Market doesn't show "My Apps"

So today the Android Market stop showing the My Apps page for me. Just a grey screen. I have tried everything short of wiping the device. Any ideas?

So I finally tried wiping the device twice and the My Apps page will show until the latest version of Market automatically installs and then grey screen again...
i have the same issue. D2G
Which ROM do you have?

btw, why doesn't our market have "update all" like on HTC phones?
Same annoying bug. Tried EVERYTHING (including a wipe, clearing market data, force stopping, uninstalling updates, clear data on google framework. Sent a support ticket in to google, no news yet... Looks like it isn't authenticating me.

Mine does if I have more than one update - as the market always has had since Froyo. (Unless one of the updates has changed permissions - those you must approve one by one.)
Stock rom, still nothing from google. Seems like the server flakes out when trying to verify my device. No fancy hacks really. Wish I knew why. Tried everything I can think of so far. Even did a wipe and no go. Irritating to say the least.

Same boat here. Stock rooted, all bloat installed. Only mods are the atrix camera and modified local hosts file. I even reverted the local hosts file but got nowhere. The only other market I have is amazon and it does not matter if it is installed or not. It also does not matter which version of the market I have installed.

Just noticed the same problem here
I tried installing the camera app from the leaked version but it didn't go through, so when I renamed the original stock camera app back I noticed it stopped working.
Currently I have the my apps screen spinning.
I've got an XT860.
Same problem here
Same problem here. Stock, rooted. My Apps has had a blank screen for days. Cleared Market data and cache. No help.
I don't know who to even contact for support. Any thoughts?
Have any of you tried this:
settings->applications->manage applications
Find "Market" and tap it
If there is one, tap the button at the top "Uninstall updates"
Does that fix this problem?

Same issue here! Just started today, the same day i installed safebloat!
Are any of you guys running safebloat? Did this bug appear right after switching from the bootstrap to the safebloat?
Not running safebloat. Currently nothing frozen or removed.

I found that if you take out your SD and clean market/storage service fixes. Bad news is when you put back SD, it breaks again.
I just checked mine, all's good. There's got to be a common factor here... just needs to be found
Just a thought.
Make sure everything in your google account page is set to sync.
Settings->accounts-> you gmail account.
Try the online market. Sign in and see if your apps show up there. If it does, would say it something on phone, if not something with the account.
Hope it helps

I have 2 Accounts ... one account shows the apps ... the other jumps to a screen where i can select Apps or Games ... pressing one of these buttons brings me back to a new instance of a market ... not displaying the apps or games.
Strange ... have newest version of market ... i can install new apps on this account - but something very wrong here ... 8(

New Update is here! Here is how to force pull an OTA update

go to settings, more, application manager, all, and clear data, then stop services for google services framework....then go into system update and update samsung software...... you may have to do that up to 10x with a few restarts in between
also you need to at least have 35% battery
works everytime for me!
if you notice after you clear data and go to system update, it shows that it last checked i 1969......this somehow resets the que and puts you in front of the line
Although this update fixed my red hues during black backgrounds, it added the purple blur/smearing thing when scrolling though quickly...at least we know its a software problem and not hardware
Ok...
I'm going to put this here as I did in the 2 other ota threads.. would someone please grab a log of the link (or grab the download prior to try to install) if they are getting propmted so we can get this to look at?
A bunch of people talking about it, no one trying to get it?
Not sure how. I would be happy to grab the download and get it to someone.

Depends on how people are getting the prompt.. Within the other thread, one of the three anyway, there was this post by a rooted user that had the fail..
This would be ideal because it should have been sitting in /cache (as we've seen on other devices) and it could simply have been pulled.
The only other option (and it will probably not be successful without root but worth a try) would be getting a logcat (running log during process), then forcing the prompt by clearing framework in hopes of catching the download link when the prompt arrives and tapping it. Pull log, inpect it for link and go and get it manually.

Another possible method of grabbing files on a non rooted phone is airdroid app. Connect with PC, choose files folder. By default it will go to the SD card but you can back up and get to the phone's system files after a warning screen. If the theory works, just start poking around the file system until you find the update and download it to the computer. You can't edit anything with airdroid but you can grab files at least if you're not rooted. I've never tried this but did see it show the phone's internal files when trying to get to external storage when the default go to folder was internal storage.
Got my update, turned off dev mode, force stopped google services framework, and cleared data.
So much smoother

[Q] HTC One AT&T - Can't install 3rd party apps even when enabled in settings

Ok so this is weird as hell, and i've already called HTC about this and they provided a little bit of help.
First, this is my first official Android handset (Why the hell did I wait so long omg?) after kicking Apple to the curb, so I am still learning all the tricks and shortcuts, but I have a fairly good knowledge as to how the OS works now.
My Issue is I am unable to install 3rd party apps. I have the APK downloaded, I have the option in settings to allow 3rd party apps to install, and when I try to install it takes me to the install screen showing me what the app will have access to, and has cancel and install at the bottom. Cancel works, as well as show info, but the install button does nothing. I've tried from the download section, as well as ASTRO File Manager.
HTC Mention double checking to make sure third party app install is enabled (I can't even get to the install screen otherwise so it obviously is) and they mentioned to do a soft-restart by holding down the power button until it completely reboots.
Here is the kicker, after doing the soft-restart for the first time, I was able to install the Humble Indie Bundle Beta App. Worked perfectly fine. But now that I have downloaded the games from that App, I am back to the same issue before where I can't install the APK's and the soft-restart isn't fixing the issue.
I've goggled the crap out of this and haven't come across really anything like this, except some mention that AT&T Blocks third party apps, but it looks like that was on older HTC phones, and since I was able to install 1 third party app, I don't think that's the case. Any help would be appreciated!
*********** TLR SOLUTION ************
If you can't install 3rd party apps, after having checked the option in settings, remove the "Google Settings" app, and then run your installs. If you are using a new install for the first time, pick Android Installer and not Verify and Install to avoid issues. Scumbag Google.
Re-install Google Settings at your own risk afterwards.

Google recently installed a new "installer" package from the store. I think it was called "verify and install". Anyway, the first time I tried to install from the Amazon store, it asked me which installer to use - Android or the new google installer. I chose the second program (always). After that my programs would not install. I had to remove that program and then the next time I made sure that I selected the default Android installer.
I don't know where the new installer came from. I didn't ask for it to be installed.
Anyway, check your apps list and see if that is installed.

Just searched all apps installed for both install and verify. There is nothing under verify, and install comes up with Certificate Installer DemoFloPackage Installer and Package Installer, all with android icon's, so they appear to be default stuff. I'll definitely keep looking though, thank you for the tip!
Edit: Your suggestion game me the idea to see if there was another installer application on the appstore that might work. I tried Easy Installer and it still just installs using the regular (or I suppose default) installer, which leads me back to the same problem =(
Do you have any apps like Lux Autobrightness or screen filter running or similar? If you do, that is your culprit. Those apps act as an overlay to your screen (that's how they adjust brightness) and as a security feature the install button is disabled when an overlay app is being used to prevent an overlay app from being able to hit the install button. It works after a reboot because the app has not yet started running.

I do have twilight installed (Like F.Lux) but it looks like stevedebi's original assessment was correct. The app is "Google Settings" attached is a screen cap of the culprit.
I unlocked my bootloader to install cynogenmod (decided against it) and when I went to re-install all the apps, the "Android Installer" and "Verify and Install" option came up, and once I saw the icon was the same as google settings, I opened it up and there was the verify options down at the bottom.

Thank you for this info! Completely forgot about this and was getting frustrated when the install button wasn't working..
I tried the whole "deleting the screen filter" app thing. It works momentarily after I "soft" reset my phone, but only for one install.
Every time, I have to reset my phone, so something else is in the way.
My phone is not rooted, if that helps at all. And it's an AT&T galaxy s2.

Hot to prevent Google Maps from updating?

I really don't like the 7.0 version of Google Maps, so much so that I rooted my phone (HTC One) to install the 6.x version. I use the Navigation app all the time in my car. My problem is that no matter what I do, it keeps getting updated to the 7.x version every few days. I have it detached from the Market with TiBackup Pro, and turned off all Market updates for all apps on the phone. It doesn't matter, in a couple of days I'll jump into my car, hit the Navigation button from the Car menu screen and get "welcome to 7.0!". I can restore it from my backup in about 5 minutes, but who want to do that everytime I get in the car. Any ideas?

when you go in the playstore and you click inside of the Maps application,
if you hit the menu button next to the share button, make sure the "Auto update" box is also unchecked,
not just the one in play store settings. That's how I got my snapchat to stop updating.
Hope that helps!

Nope, when I do that, it goes to the same setttings page as the store, which is already set to 'do not update', nothing specifically for that application. I"m running 4.3, maybe that's different.

Can no longer install from "Unknown Sources"

This is probably something I've done that is really stupid but I can't figure it out. My Nexus 6 is completely stock. Just got it, haven't unlocked the bootloader and haven't rooted it.
I have gone to the Security settings and enabled "Unkonwn Sources". I have even install Fdroid after doing so.
I'm now trying to install other apps (Amazon app store, and others from fdroid) and I can't.
It opens the install screen, tells me all the permissions the app will use, and gives me the "Cancel" and "Install" buttons. However, I cannot press the "Install" button. The cancel buttons works fine, but not the install button.
Anyone know what I've done wrong?
Thanks in advance folks.

Are you using some kind of screen filter application? Try switching the phone to landscape and tap all areas of "Install"
If you're using a screen filter application, disable it and then try again.
In my experience, this is usually related to third party screen related apps that control screen brightness. In my case, lux creates this behavior, and needs to be disabled to install things. If you don't have a third party app like this installed, try temporarily disabling ambient display or auto brightness.

Thank you both for your answers.
"Lux" was the culprit. Darn.
I got really tired of pressing "Install". Did it so many times it wouldn't surprise me if there was a dent in my screen, lol.

You know the Amazon app store can also be accessed from the regular Amazon app, right? No need to sideload the Amazon App Store apk anymore
