Hello dear Forum,
My question: How can I root my Samsung Galaxy Tab without a Computer? I have already tried to root via Gingerbreak, Framaroot, z4root. USB-Debugging is enabled. Is there any way to root it via recovery mode? I've searched a long time in google but I didn't found anything like a root.zip.
My Android Version is 2.3.6 and I'm at Stock ROM.
Sorry for my bad english.
Thanks for your help

You still need custom recovery first.
Stock recovery only flash zip that is signed by Samsung.

I just got a popup to do a system update..before I do it, I want to know if this will un-root me?
No. But to be safe. Update the Kies without connecting your device to the pc. I am doing so atm.
I have tried to install this update several times and it is never successful.
Is their a Sprint software update file in this site for a rooted Galaxy tab?

Which version of Kies are you running to connect to the Sprint Tab?

is there no way to just apply an undate like the universal root update posted on here. i have tried it but get 2 fail lines. seems others have had luck with it but not me

Not sure.
When I first tried to root I used some of the apps available to preform one click root and had limited success. Usually I had root and they worked fine for certain applications that require root however when I tried to flash a custom rom or make a nandroid backup then I always ended up with the 3e recovery and the signature verification would fail.
Eventually after wasting a whole lot of time I used Odin & CF-Root. it takes all of about 30 seconds (if you haven't done it before) and is really easy.
needed an update.zip kinda method really.. i dont have a pc. managed to use the local library computer to flash my i9000 back to stock gingerbread before the staff got ****ty with me installing drivers on their computer. didnt manage to root and install cwm, wanted to install cwm on my transformer prime too but they had command prompt blocked.

Go to sammobile.com. you have to register but it's free. You can get the stock roms there. You'll download a zip file. Use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file and use that in odin. Use odin v1.85.

I tried that already, no luck

Odin does recognize your device? What happens when you try to flash?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I have attached a print screen of what happens.
I can't see but I assume you have auto reboot checked. If so,I would redownload the rom file. It could be a bad download.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Yes I have auto reboot checked. I have already re-downloaded the file, same result.
Idk, sounds like you tried everything I would do. It's sounding like it's internal hardware failure. Can you get into recovery mode? I assume not. But if you can try a factory reset.

You'll need to put a custom recovery on your tab using Odin. Flash it just like the stock rom. Then you'll need to flash superuser-busy box thru the custom recovery. Download that on you tab. I have the files on dev host and I'll post links for you when I get on my pc.
Recovery. http://d-h.st/fqw
Supersu. http://d-h.st/vjq
Use install in twrp (the recovery) to install super user. Then boot, once booted look for super su in your apps and click on it. It will update to the latest version. You'll be rooted.

I can't connect my device to a computer. I have tried with Kies installed and also installed a driverpack I found. The computer just says it can't recognize the device. I am using a usb cable from a galaxy tab 10.1 but that can be the problem, or can it?
I have rooted the device and app root checker says it's rooted correctly. And my problem is that I can't get cwm recovery into it. I have a new rom from cm on SD card but can't flash it because of cwm isn't installed. I need the computer to find the device to be able to get cwm into it with Odin.
Can someone please help me with this problem? Thankful for any help or suggestions. Excuse if my English as misspellings.
Regards
Christian
Yes, likely you need original cable.
And since you are rooted, check if you have protected bootloader.
Read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071
post #2 about SGTBootloaderCheck
I have unlock the bootloader successfully.
Is there any other way to get cwm into the device other than using Odin, or can it be done without cwm? I have a 4.3 cm rom and googleapp pack on sdcard.
Christian.
You can use heimdall. But you still need the correct cable.

Okey, so either way I need the correct cable then.
I looked and the cable for galaxy tab 10.1 should work for galaxy tab aswell. I wonder what is wrong here. But I will try to get a original cable to try with.

Well if you want to do that, you'll need to upgrade to gingerbread first. And to do that you need to be able to connect to your pc, no way around that.
Hi,
I'd like to install CM to my tab. I've read its quite complicated, and you can brick your device quite fast. Could anyone provide a detailed and relatively safe solution to upgrade from 2.2(!)?
Do I need to root first, and install cwm?
Thanks a lot!
Theoretically you don't need root, only need cwm.
But for 2.2, many has locked bootloader that prevents flashing non samsung signed stuff.
So you need to root to then check the bootloader if it is locked. If locked, then apply a patch. That is why root is needed.

Hi,
Here is what I did:
I was on Froyo too (P1000BVJJ2, Orange France).
I rooted the Tab with z4root with no problem
Then checked if bootlooder was locked with SGT-Bootloader-Patch-v1.00.apk (from Chainfire): it was unlocked
Then flashed Overcome 4.1 (follow the guide)
Then flashed AOKP SGT7 JB-MR1 (from Stimpz0r)
Then flashed CM11 (from terenceng)
No problem at all. You can follow my steps, but don't blame me if it does not work for you !

I'm stuck at the "root with z4root" problem. The app is freezing and not doing anything sadly. Tried to look up a solution here, on xda forums, but the last thread about z4root I found was from 2011 and its closed now.
Any other idea how to deal with 2.2?

I will guide you..just follow it without fear.
Search and Download "CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS" using Google.
Search and Download Odin v1.7 using Google.
Switch OFF your Tab and switch it ON while holding Volume down button. It gets into Download mode.
Open the Odin application on PC and Now connect the tab to the PC. The Comment 'Added' appears on Odin. If not try other USB ports and I hope you have installed the PC~ADB drivers.
On the PDA section of Odin browse and include the 'CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS' file, do not alter anything.
Click Start, let it do it business.I will Reset automatically.
Now you have a CWM and a Rooted P1000 Tab. Play well
