First of all, this should be moved to the Q&A section, and he may use big letters if he wants too, if he wasn't allowed then xda would remove the feature i'm sure.
If you could update your signature with links to tut's of how to do each step it would help a lot more then just " Look at my Signature " Your signature is not helpful at all to new users. " Unlock Bootloader " Well how do you expect someone who has never done it before to know the steps in which to take to undergo the unlocking procedure.
Checl out the " Sticky's Roll Up Thread " In the General/Q&A section " and you should be able to find the corresponding methods to help you get flashing and onto your desired Rom, welcome to the community, any other problems, feel free to open a thread and we will be sure to help you as soon as possible (Have a search first thou ofcourse )
Happy Flashing bro.

big letters are there to emphasize something. if you're using it in normal post, it's just as douchy as writing in full-caps.
my signature has enough info to point every newcommer into right direction. it's there to make sure they do steps in the right sequence. details can be found by searching the (sub)forum. also, my signature is the answer to his question on what he did wrong - he flashed custom recoveery without unlocking bootloader. once he knows what he did wrong, he can move on to fixing it and doing it properly.
i honestly don't understand why people expect to be spoonfed info? why are people lazy to read stickies/search forums? they will get their answer faster that way, instead of waiting for someone to provide them with everything in another thread they created.
i really dont want to sound entitled, *****y or anything. but the amount of people hijacking threads, posting new threads improperly, and generally not being good users is too high. thats why i added the info i did to my signature, so people can "follow the breadcrumbs" to solve their problems. cheers.

Well most users need more then breadcrums, say you got your first Android Device, and it was an expensive device to you and you was scared about bricking it or whatever, you wouldn't want to use intuition for something that could potential screw you over. For Example, i'm not going to become a Qualified Chef by searching and following Top recipes online am i?! It's not gonna help me achieve anything, a tutor who can Point you in the right direction and who can Help you out with steps you don't understand, and who will be there to answer any Problems you face.
Sometimes most people prefer to be Taken through tutorials Step by Step and your signature is very minimal. So therefor should not be used as the answer. It's users like you that cause so many duplicate threads to be opened.
If your not going to answer the question fully, and with enough information (Links) then don't bother answering it and leave it someone else who can provide the correct information. If it has already been answered, link him to the corresponding thread and give him the reassurance that a PM is all he needs if he doesn't understand what is the thread. The reason you have SOO many more POSTS then THANKS is because what you are posting is not helpful to other users. If you are going to have a tut in your sig and want people to follow it, add links otherwise don't bother posting half assed answers. It's not helpful. If your not gonna do a good job and get annoyed by noobs. Leave xda.
For information on how to follow this guys half assed unhelpful signature, go here and make you sure 1. Upgrade to JB (Officially) 2. Root 3. Unlock Bootloader (Various Methods, use whichever works for you) 4. Flash recovery (TWRP/CWM, Personal choice) 5. Flash whatever you like!
Stickies found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2225910
Any problems drop me a PM, It's what xda users are meant to be here for, to help eachother out!

this was my first android device. paid it 300 euro of my hard earned money. before i bought it, i sat down, read about the android, read about the device, read the stickies, followed the tutorials. if i encountered an error, i searched if someone else already had it. if i could not find someone else with the same issue, i'd post new topic/post.
there ARE tutorials around the site, i'm well aware of that. my signature isn't step-by-step tutorial, it's there to POINT PEOPLE INTO RIGHT DIRECTION, and it's doing it's job as i've been told.
on the other hand, you're not a mod - you dont have the right to tell me what i should or should not post, as long as it's within the rules (and this guys topic is totaly out of the rules - wrong subforum, question asked numerous times). i have 5:1 post to thanks ratio becouse i ask and discuss a lot. helping someone once in five posts is good enough for me. for you it seems, it's just a measure of your e-peen.
in the end, you enable breaking of rules by letting people know it's ok to open another and another and another topic on same issues that have been discussed numerous times over. with not telling them that what they're doign is wrong, you're enabling every other noob that comes here to, instead of search for answers to his questions, to open another topic anywhere he pleases, flood the forum with useless posts and not be sanctioned by it.
atleast i tell them proper ettiquete - and the ettiequete is for them to search more for answers to questions already answered.
now i'll say it again, you're not a mod, so you telling me to "leave xda" has zero to none practical effect. i will post whatever i want within the rules of the forum.
ending my post on a not-as-assholish note as your post is, i wish you all the best. over and out from this thread.

Now you see this is the main reason that i have more respect then you do from other users, just stop being such a butthurt little childish kid about it and HELP THEM OUT if the thread is duplicate, link them to the correct one and report the thread. simple as.
XDA Rules may state search before posting, so chances are they probably have already! And that's why they're opening a new thread. You was a noob once, how would you have liked it if people were being ass's to you?! Because compared to me your a noob, and i may start treating you like you are dense and know nothing. XDA Rules can be bent. so what if he opens a new thread. It can be closed, moved, and deleted if it needs to be, if you don't bloody like it don't look on it.
If you don't have anything nice to say, don't bloody say it at all, it's the internet, let him post where he wants and what he wants. you can always request it to be maintained.
Goddamn butthurt users. We are here to help, not be ass's because we want to feel less noobish then the next guy

What to do with Newbies..?

I'm saddened by the high increase of irrelevant posts, and even more about the sometimes aggressive responses given to newbies.
As I see it, there is no way to completely get rid of newbies' questions or posts. So, the poll' question is: what should be the best attitude toward irrelevant posts/questions?
I hope this poll might contribute some how in having a better conduct and efficiency here in XDA.
Cheers everyone
FYI, check also XDA official' RULES: Please read this before posting
You need another voting option: post a link to the appropriate page/site (Wiki, MrVanx's Guide etc) and advise them to read as much as possible and understand what they are doing before they create a very expensive brick, without wasting time insulting and looking like an arrogant ****.
Short polite and to the point.
Unless you have a hangover of course........
I second that option
That didn't even work in this case.
That one's not even smart enough to click on the hyperlink to get the information he was "spoon fed".

I´m a member of another forum (not related to phones nor PPCs !) Whenever a question comes on an issue of those already answered a ton of times the moderator "sends the member posting the question TO READ", this means that this member has no right to post anything during a week. I don´t know if this forum has such capability and I don´t know neither if the mods would be willing to take this "extra" job.
Sounds quite drastic, although maybe a base to think of other possibilities how to handle the issue.
Surely, XDA deserves better than what I've seen in the past few weeks in the Hermes' forum.
Answer the question or STFU
But above all, don't reply to the post with an RTFM Noob post only. Maybe answer the question then do an RTFM in the same post.
RTFM posts add no value whatsoever, aside from making the poster feel smart.

Well, I am new to this forum. But, I have to agree we need aggressive measure to deal with people don't do the work of search.
Personally, I don't have many posts because I can find answers to almost all of my questions just by searching and spend time reading. So, not all newbies are bad, but you need to deal with the bad ones with a hard hand.
You senior members are getting about as bad on this issue as the newbies asking the same questions over and over. If you would have used the search button, you would have found that there have been 3950 threads about what to do with newbies and 423,654 flame posts to a newbie. Okay, so that was a joke but, for the love of all things holy, can we move on?
Sincerely,
Newbie who uses search button, has read the wiki (in part so far) and who doesn't ask questions that could in any way be misconstrued as not having done the aforementioned.
Scratch that. I am now a junior member. Woohoo for me!
help them,
some people are not pda svay and new to it all, they may have had a cell prior and dont work in a tech/IT role so may not be to sharp on a lot of the tech side
Everyone starts somewere,if you can take the time to reply with an insult or try google ,then you can find the time to point em in the right direction
Imagine if you took your car to be looked at and got the same response,ok the info is free and you can use search, but a little help goes a long way
its the net ,use it to gain info and spread it,not sit being smug or post insults
if we all use the net to its full potential we can achive so many things
i am sure we all have been newbies before. how would you have like to be treated/replied?
i suggest if the noob question is polite, then answer it politely and give some advise on how to use the search function and the wiki.
if the noob question is somehow impolite, aggressive, etc., perhaps a little apprehension/reminder is required.

Wow, you have nicer car mechanics in your area.....
There are various levels of noob, which need to be distinguished between.
There are those who have tried to search and read but not fund the answer, although it may be there. (maybe wrong search terms)
There are those who have not looked hard enough and are just being lazy. (perhaps they were put off by the huge number of posts etc)
There are those who demand answers without looking.
There are those who demand answers to questions which demonstrate that they really have not even tried to get any kind of an idea of what they are doing.
Favourite recent examples are :
CAN I LOAD WINDOWS MOBILE 6.0 ON SONYERICSSON M600i (UIQ 3)
i have downloaded black v3 but want to check if it will install to my Dell Axim aswell as my spv????
Where can I get Windows Mobile 6?
Tis funny, another post on what to do with us...
Hi, as a noob myself, new to the hermes, nothing else... I lurked here for a while before actually registering... I was really disheartened by the posts of RTFM and the like... I tried searching for my answers with the limited capabilities of this forum (don't get me wrong, I like the forum, but the search sux), but rarely could find what I was looking for... It wasn't until someone actually included a link to another noob with the various ways to successfully search the forum, that I decided to register...
If we could use the google search link as a sticky, it may help... I believe that the google advanced search link is included in the FAQs, if not, it should be... but I have simply added it to my sig... My suggestion would be for those of us who tire from 'ignorant' posts to do likewise...
(turn back on crowd and leave soapbox for next speaker)

Whatever. You know the seniors' stance is questionable when the entire purpose of setting up another private forum is to "get away from n00bs", and when you hit 100 posts you aren't even allowed to ask a simple, obscure question because it appeared in a topic like more than 6 months ago, and you're supposed to be "experienced" enough to know.
Everyone here has valid points, but it still doesn't solve the problem... It will not be an easy one to solve, as long as the search function is not blatantly put in front of noobs... As I said before, I lurked for a while before even registering because of the flaming posts for "stupid" questions... Need everyone be reminded that English is not the first language for everyone on this board...? That makes it a little harder for someone to properly search for the correct items and locate them... Then they are tasked with understanding what is written... And since it has become okay to use acronyms while typing, translators cannot keep up... Hell, it took me a couple of hours to figure out what RTFM meant...
Anyway, making things a bit easier for those with less knowledge cannot possibly be a wrong turn...

JF 1.5 (cupcake ) and MyFavs

Installed JF 1.5 (cupcake) and myfavs are gone. Is this normal as NOT part of the build?
I would like to get back if possible.
Also in the brouser auto-rotate was possible in JF 1.42 r33 and now its not working at all and landscape is not a feature under settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
TIA
Please, please, please read and search the existing threads (in this case the JF 1.5 thread) rather than starting a new thread.
In general I favor creating a new thread when you have a specific question for anything, the exception being about about the custom ROMs. The convention here is to keep the ROM discussion to the ROM thread and it does cut down on the noise in the forums.
In this case both of your questions have been answered on JFs 1.5 thread (multiple times)

Sorry but I do have a life and I don't always the time to read thru 28 pages. If I have the time I do search and read!!! I'm sure you never started a thread with a question that has been already answered!!!
Anyways!!! Thanks for the links!!!
Might I humbly suggest if you do not have time to search and read then wait until you do have time? Everyone here (with the possible exception of myself) has lives as well and would just as soon not have to do others work for them.
It took me longer to type my post than it did to search and provide you the links. In the time it took you to do your posts you could have gotten the answers yourself.
And yes I have asked questions and had it pointed out to me that the question has been asked before and been provided a link to the answer. However I have never posted a question on a forum without first searching as thoroughly as possible. Never. Probably why I have to ask very few questions.
Regardless of how u feel I'm sure this thread will help others.
Again, Thanks for the links!!!

This is a process informally called "lurking", which could be better described as "doing your own goddamn work instead of making other people do it for you." Unfortunately with the widespread attention xda has gotten lately, the ratio of the lazy to the productive has risen significantly.
OP: You don't have a right to run JF software (i.e. it is provided as-is), nor is anyone obligated to provide you troubleshooting. If you don't have the time to read through the sticky threads, then like JP said you should find the time or learn how to better use the search function.
This thread had the opposite effect of helping me... it falsely got up my hopes that the MyFaves app is available, which I previously believed it to not be, having read the rom threads....

I as well thought someone added myfaves.apk to jf1.5 and re-signed it.
The JF cupcake 1.5 is an ADP version, which by default doesnt include myFaves. You can always wait for another update.
Hope that helps
You know what's even more annoying than someone not searching? ...
People who act like forum police/moderators and jump on the posters back with rude comments and a holier than thou attitude.
Instead of writing paragraphs about how YOU would post- maybe you should either not write anything at all, or, gasp, be curteous and friendly- help someone out, then kindly point out the search function if necessary.
What a concept.
Yeah, some of these threads get up to 200+ pages, with thousands of posts along with it, even a search will bring up a lot of posts. Not all of us have the time (as we work, or go to school, or have lives outside of the internet) to sit down and read through all of them. So it would be easier to answer the OP's question, and just end it there, then to tell him to search and complain like your on hormone pills, haha
But back to the OP question, any T-mobile apps will not be present in an ADP build. We just have to wait until someone gets a hold of the T-mobile build. So until then, just flash back to RC33 if you need myfaves.
You can auto rotate the browser (although other apps will use this function as well) by going to:
SETTINGS > SOUND & DISPLAY
then under "Display settings" make sure "Orientation" is checked, then your browser will rotate.

I just answered the OP's question, so the thread should have no further discussion unless he has more questions. All questions can not be answered with the information found in the sticky threads, so there are people like me, and many other people in these forums who are more than willing to help out another person trying get things running smoothly. If you don't have anything positive to say to the OP and get them going in the right direction, just let other people help.

Silly of me to think that WE ARE ALL HERE to help each other instead of acting like we are the sh!t and know-it-all's!! Ever try to read 5 pages of a thread using your G1 let alone 20+
Remember where you came from and how it felt not to know things and how it felt to be overwhelmed by all this info and how to apply it. Maybe then you will NOT act like a-holes.
I vote we all complain that proprietary, crappy T-Mobile software don't exist on NON T-Mobile builds of Android. You know, the way it's been since ADP phones were released in 2008. Oh yeah, and we all need to keep acting surprised when they continually don't show up in ADP builds. I think that's best for everyone.

Sorry, you're completely right: There's no point to having stickied threads or search buttons. Everyone should just start a new thread whenever they have a question, regardless of how many times that question has already been asked. Catering to the newbies who are too lazy to use forum tools and letting them overrun the forum is the best thing for the forum. I have seen the light!
postscript: sorry for bumping this failure of a thread, but newbie spam like this is choking out the real purpose this forum and I feel like unless someone takes a stand, [email protected] is going to lose relevance (assuming it hasn't already).
I was kind of hoping this thread would just die away once it left the front page but since it is back...

We are here to help each other. The first step in that is following, or at least considering, the rules set forth on the forums. They are here to help make the forum better. The first 2 are:
1) Search first
2) Be polite
Call me a know it all if you like. It does not change the fact that I am gently (and politely) trying to get you to do what is helpful to everyone on the forums. The vast majority of users here can follow these rules, why not you? I have not called you any names nor denigrated you in any fashion. I am simply asking you to be considerate to other forum users and mindful of the rules. By posting threads like this you generate noise in the forums that makes it harder to find new/original content. This is not an end user forum but one dedicated to technical users capable of researching answers.

Ever try to read 5 pages of a thread using your G1 let alone 20+
Remember where you came from and how it felt not to know things and how it felt to be overwhelmed by all this info and how to apply it. Maybe then you will NOT act like a-holes.

No need to read 20+ pages, “search this thread” works just fine on the G1. It is easier than posting as a matter of fact since you do not need to login and requires less typing.
Remeber YOU DONT HAVE TO REPLY, period!! No matter how you feel, YOU DONT HAVE TO REPLY.
In case you cant read, YOU DONT HAVE TO REPLY.
Spanish: usted no tiene que responder
German: Sie haben keine Antwort
French: vous n'avez pas de réponse
Italian: Non si hanno per rispondere
You are NOT obligated/required to reply to anyones thread.
If you want to help then do so, if you dont then dont.
Again THANKS for the links!!!
Now please be a grown up and let this die I already got my answer
While it is sometimes said in an off-putting manner, the forum rules clearly state that you are required to search for the answer to your question prior to creating a new thread. If a search does yield the answer(s) you seek, then find an existing thread related to your problem.
For example: There are several active threads related to Cupcake, so you could have posted in one of those, as opposed to creating a new thread.
Thank you for your understanding. Thread closed.

new g1 please help

I just got my g1 and I keep hearing about root. What is it and where can I get it?
Obvisouly I know. My point is, are we all sick of posts like this? Especially when the person doesn't search? Could a mod please make another forum for noobs so they can post these types of thread? Somewhere where they won't get flamed and somewhere where noob posts won't clutter the forums? Something like "xda-developers > dream > noob" or something to that effect?
I know this is the wrong place for this and that it is way out of topic, but the reason why I posted it here was because this is where these noob posts take place and surely regurlars will agree with me. Please do this for the greatewr good of the forums?
Thank you for your time and please respond if you agree.
Also maybe a spell check feature? (See last post haha)
do you really think that the 'noobs' would actually get help from the noob forum?.. think about that for a sec

Im not so sure thats the best approach.. Why is such a big deal that a so called noob ask questions, to ensure that he or she doesn't screw there phone up. And i agree if they would just do some research and read stickies, etc. then they would learn something. But if their noobs, then they are probably noobs to the site, and lets face it although this is by far the best forum available for android development its not the easiest to navigate for NOOBS. And if noobs posting noob questions pertaining to android development means that the forum & Community strengthen, then so be it. And Cbowely lets face it some of todays noobs will be tom elite developers, and they are who we depend on.....

If you want root, you will need a shovel, and have to dig and careful not to break the stems. lol, i could not resist.
"root is the user name or account that by default has access to all commands and files on a Linux or other Unix-like operating system. It is also referred to as the root account, root user and the superuser. "
Assuming you are coming from Windows OS environment, Root is like the Administrator account.
How can you get it? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
I am noob. Most of my post are thanks for this. Awsome thing that made my phone run better. Or if I have a slight issue with somthing I may post a qestion. And I have had a thread locked befor...that thought was a good qestion but lokking back it wasnt ... but anyways.
I would like see a noob section. I basicaly leech off of this site and if I could help some noobs out I would be more than happy to so the real devs could get stuff done and work stuff out.
I am not saying that noobs asking questions is a bad thing, but I DO think there COULD be a better place for it than the developer section. I do believe the noobs would actually get help in the noob section because some people like helping noobs out. I know I would as well as a lot of other people I see in threads that help out noobs, I believe those type of people would enjoy helping the noobs.
Damn I can't believe that I am posting here because I don't want no Enemies, I have gotten tremendous help from this forum, not only with making my phone 100 times better but I also gained a boat load of knowledge in the process. I am not one that would start a thread unless I was at the last possible step I could be after long hours of reading and reading and seraching and through this process I have even been able to help out others....
but come on... someone posts a question cause they are having an issue that they need to get corrected with their equipment and wham they get roasted by useless reply's telling them to "use search" one after the another, after the another, after another when all someone has to do is provide the answer and tell them they could have found it had they searched... or they could have just given a link to the answer and the thread stops... like this thread I came here to see if I could help because the topic is "new g1 please help" this is about as useless as someone starting a thread on which color G1 should I use...
damn just wasted 15 minutes of my life to type this... remember people that everyone that started here had to post their first message, hence we were all "noobs" once when we started as well....
Again I don't want make ANY enemies I just want to make my phone the envy of everyone that sees it(like yesterday when I bought my daughter her G1 and I was typing on my on screen keyboard and they guy at the T-mobile store says hey you got your update, and said no I got my cupcake and man it sure tates good) and if I can provide a link to help steer someone in the right direction so be it...
end of my venting...
peace!
Exactly my point. I'm not *****ing about people making noob posts asking for help, but the fact is they get bombarded with "use the search button" or "this topic has been covered". I am not saying people SHOULDN'T post help threads, but there isn't a place for it.
My point: There SHOULD be a place for people to ask for help.. like a noob forum. Combing through mostly off topic threads, like the rom threads, can take a while and may not be helpful for noobs who do not understand what an spl or fastboot or dalvic cashe is. So with a noob forum, there would be a place to ask: "I succefully rooted, but the instructions say spl, and my english is not very good, so I am having trouble understaing".
This would help
1. Un-clutter the forums
2. From keeping large threads from going off topic
3. Noobs find they want easier by just asking
I mean I agree that asking a simple question that would take a sentence or less to answer would be easier than searching a crap load of threads for hours to find an answer. If I didn't know what an spl was, and I searched, a lot of threads come up, but not many that explain what an spl is. It could take DAYS to find the answer, when someone could just easily easily answer what an spl is.
Again I am not *****ing about noob posts!! Sometimes they need to be asked. It is impossible for a noob to get simple questions answered without spending hours researching.
I believe a noob forum would benefit us all.
Also the topics could be formated:
Help: phone looping
When problem is resolved:
[Solved] phone looping

help

i have a g1 with donut unrooted and trying to root it but have no success at all. any ways u guys know will work?
Welcome to the community.....
Before getting reamed, check these out.....
Step #1 - Read this
Step #2 - Found by searching "Root"
yeah, what he said. This will either get deleted, moved, or locked. People will flame you. It will not be short. You will not enjoy this. They are not here to hold your hand, and while some will help you, most will give you crap. Technochris has pointed you in the right direction. I suggest you use the search button next time. Or you will be temporarily banned. Good luck. Also, questions like this belong in the Q&A
what the two guys above me said. next time search. and if you have to start a new thread, make sure you post in the correct section or people will be all over you.
also a thread title such as "help" helps no one...
Next time please add something descriptive to your threads title. This is one of the more frustrating things you run across in a lot of forums.

[FAQ] Answers for Noobs who like to ask questions. READ THIS BEFORE ASKING ANYTHING.

Ok. I don't know if this will get stickied or not, I hope it will. Mods can feel free to change the title of the post if need be. Here's a stab at answering a few questions which are asked repeatedly.
First and foremost:
CLICK THE SEARCH BUTTON BEFORE ASKING ANYTHING WHATSOEVER.
Secondly:
IF YOU HAVE ROOTED YOUR PHONE, MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE...THEN SAVE A COPY OF IT TO YOUR DESKTOP
Don't even bother asking for help if you've screwed up a ROM install and don't have a backup. The only advice you'll get is to use the RUU (which can be found here).
Having gotten that out of the way here are some of the typical questions and answers.
#1. What's the fastest/best/most interesting/etc ROM out there.
Answer: Try them all and see. If you read the first page of each ROM thread the bugs/fixes are posted. If you see a thread without the bugs/fixes, READ THE THREAD FOR THAT ROM AND ASK YOUR QUESTIONS IN IT. Do not create a new thread to ask questions like: Does everything work in <INSERT ROMNAME HERE> rom?
#2. How do I...?
Answer: The answer to your question is probably http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=CDMA%20Hero%20Guides. If it's not there, it's almost definitely under search. Stop asking. Stop creating new threads. It just makes people mad and clutters up the forums.
#3. I think I bricked/broke/messed up my phone
Answer: Did you flash a GSM radio on top of a CDMA phone (or vice versa)? Then probably not. Pull your battery, restore from the NANDROID BACKUP I'm certain you made when you first rooted your phone and try again. Almost all bad ROM flashes can be fixed by wiping and reinstalling your ROM. Check your battery level. Never flash a ROM if the level is below 30%.
#4. I'm getting an error after using the RUU (110, etc)
Answer: Check the wiki guides above. There is a thread which tells you how to recover. If you are too lazy to read through the fixes, here is the thread.
#5. The Sprint 2.x upgrade is coming soon! I have pr00f!
Answer: No, you don't. Stop posting new threads to draw attention to yourself. The ROM upgrade will be out when it's out and not before Sprint is ready to release. Any release date you might have heard is tentative at best and flat out wrong in most cases. Stop creating threads about it, we don't care where you got your information.
#6. Audio doesn't work in my custom 2.x ROM
Answer: Try here. There are two fixes in this thread for it.
#7. I just flashed <INSERT ROMNAME HERE> ROM and everything's all screwed up.
Answer: Wipe everything and start over. In your nandroid recovery, select 'Wipe Data/Factory Reset'. When that's done wipe 'Dalvik-Cache'. Then when that's done (if you have installed a2sd (apps2sd)) wipe SD:EXT. Then reflash the ROM. 9 times out of 10 this will fix it. The 10th time, ask in the ROM thread, do NOT create a new thread for your issue.
#8. My battery life sucks. Or: What's the battery life on this ROM?
Answer:
Search. There are a lot of threads about battery life already. If your answer's not there, ask in the ROM thread (after searching that thread of course).
Android Terms:
a2sd/apps2sd: The process of moving user installed applications from internal storage to the SD card
Rosie: Typically used as a term describing certain graphical characteristics of the Android operating system, primarily the 'bottom bar' of the phone. Example: Stock Rosie is curved, espresso Rosie is not, with rounded edges.
Also:
"For the record, with 2.1 we CAN NOT just alter the rosie launcher or the taskbar or the HTC lockbar. The files are all tied up together. This means that, if you have installed someones taskbar mods, and then later you decide you want a different rosie, when you flash the new rosie it WILL undo some of the taskbar mods....UNLESS you have a themer do a custom just for you and provide them a link to the taskbar that you are using. I cannot stress the part about providing them a link enough. That is just common courtesy. There are plenty of folks out here willing to help you. Many will even help you learn to do it yourself. Just ask nice and be patient. This is a hobby for us, too, and we often have our own projects that we are working on." - tejasrichard
There is a way to do both, however:
"And a little correction about changing only the rosie or taskbar, you can if you use metamorph [/QUOTE]
You can find metamorph in the Android Market." -danaff37
JIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalvik_virtual_machine Also see the following URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just-in-time_compilation.
LWP: Live Wallpapers. Animated wallpapers that run on your home screen. Until recently, not available in the HTC Sense UI.
MNS: Mobile Network Sharing. The act of using your cell phone as a USB or WIFI connected internet router. Example: Connecting your desktop/latop to the internet via your cell phone's mobile internet.
AOSP: Android Open Source Project http://source.android.com/
PRI: Profile of your phone. Used by your carrier to set up your network/internet settings.
PRL: Preferred Roaming List. List of cell towers close to your present location. This allows the phone to roam more easily since it has a built-in database of towers, rather than having to search for one.
This is getting too long, so I'm going to summarize:
No one likes reading the same questions over and over. If you can't be bothered to at least search for the answers, do us all a favor and don't say anything.
Stop saying things like 'I didn't feel like reading 300 pages of <INSERT ROMNAME HERE>'s thread. How do I?'...USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION TO SEARCH THAT THREAD.
If you don't read the guides, and instruction posts, then screw up your phone, don't whine about it. It's your own fault. It's not the fault of the ROM dev, or the ROM, or anything else. It's YOUR FAULT. Accept responsibility.
Did someone at the Sprint Store piss you off by not accepting your water damaged phone for replacement? Are you mad because they gave you a refurb instead of a brand new phone? We don't care. This is a DEVELOPMENT FORUM. It's for development of roms/themes/etc and discussions of roms/themes/etc. It's not a place to whine that you're being treated badly by Sprint. Post about it on Sprint's forums.
I think that covers the basics. If you're new here, do us all a favor and read this post, follow what's inside it. If you're not new and are a chronic whiner, read this post, follow what's inside it. Just stop cluttering the forums and making it impossible to find any information in it at all.
EPIC!!!!

Ok, so I am fairly new and broke 4 out of the 7 rules... But I am behaving now, and actually appreciate the basis of this Thread. That said. I didn't know what I didn't know and having this Thread at least gives new folks clear and pointed fair warning.
Great POST!!!!
lol
It wasn't aimed at you specifically, or at anyone really. It's just a general set of guidelines designed to curb repetitive posting.

Thank you! Honestly it's sad you have to make a thread like this, but it was definitely needed. Wayyy too many noobs come here asking questions that have been answered many many times over.
great read! But you know the only ones who actually read this are those of us that actually follow the guidelines and it will simply pass by the 'others' without a second glance lol
yeah, maybe edit the title to official 2.1 sprint download... haha

Perhaps. But if those of us who follow the guidelines refuse to ANSWER the noobs who don't read this, except for maybe a link to this thread, there will be fewer BS threads to have to deal with.

What terms specifically? I'll add them to the OP.
Edit: Added the two you listed.
Nothing specifically, at this very moment but, I come across new ones all the time when reading different posts. If it's cool, I'll just keep posting them here as I come to them and, if you think they should be in the op you can add them there or, if not, maybe just reply back down in the thread.
BTW. I know that I can google most terms and find them, and I have no problem whatsoever doing that, it's just nice when someone coming here to learn can expedite the process a lil with the help of some of the seniors.

Not helpful. The point here is not to create a thread full of *****ing, but to create a SINGLE thread so that we don't have 15000000 posts of the same thing. So if you can't help, stfu.
I'll add the other terms listed to the front page.
