So, I got my HTC One 3 days ago now, and it's amazing. I'm in love!
I switched from an old HTC Desire Z which was just getting too slow to do anything, and I don't regret switching at all!
There's only one thing that really annoys me.
The HTC One came with in-ear headphones, whereas the ones from my old phone, are standard headphones, or whatever they're called.
So naturally, I figured I'd just use my old ones. However, they don't work. The plugs appear to be identical. (Despite the red rings on the ones from the One.)

You guys got any ideas as to why that's happening?
I should probably note that the in-ear headphones works fine, although they're uncomfortable.
Did your old ones are working at other devices? Because my HTC One accept all headphones.

They work with both my old phone, the HTC Desire Z, and my tablet, the ASUS Transformer Infinity.
It's really weird...

I have the same problem with my Klipsch s4i, they work fine with my PC, Laptop and iPod. Phone just does not detected a headset when they are plugged in. Stock headset works, so do my Razer Electra. Funny thing is my brothers Klipsch s4 even work yet my s4i don't.
I've given up at this point but will keep eye on this thread and hope you find a solution to the problem.

I'm super glad to know that I'm not the only one with that problem! However it still sucks that we don't have a solution.
I'll try to drop by the local phone store tomorrow to hear if they have any ideas.
sorry, i posted but then after going back to read OPs question, i think i should start my own thread....
Okay it seems as though my headphones are the culprit, bending the wire at the top of the jack makes the phone detect them so it's a loose wire, once detected they seem to work fine.

Never felt comfortable with in-ear headset that came with Nexus S, I don't really fancy the style and comfortable just with earbuds as from time to time I want my friend to listen to the sound quality of Voodoo+FLAC in Nexus S.
Instead of the original headset, I used the one that came with my previous Motorola Milestone if I'd like to listen to music and having the option of receiving call through it......but...I needed more juice out of it. My ears and brain have been accustomed to the sound of YUIN PK3 which I have but that earbuds has no mic.

To combine what I need sans the Kawahara cable, this is what I did to the original Samsung Nexus S headset:
Pried open the original headset
De-soldered the cable
Pried open my YUIN PK3 earbuds
Soldered back the cable
Voila!
Eargasm..... (I know......I always say that)
That's classy, throw some flacs on there and enjoy it you deserve it. Wish i was good with small wires.
Pretty cool. I also suck with small wires so I can't do it.
Off topic as well but, what case is that?
Yep..it is really small and I got a very shaky hands, I can't even draw a straight line slowly. I used helping hand to do that.
This is the review of the case:

Why do their headphones look so cheap
With the help of your write-up, I just did this exact mod and it turned out great. Thanks for the idea!
Where'd you get the red and white earbud foam?
I bought it from online shop in China, there are couple seller who sell similar on ebay, just search for "white/red earbud foam"...but I have yet to see the doughnut style color foam
Just thought I'd update on this mod.
So earlier I reported that I had replaced the cord on my Klipsch S4 headphones with the stock nexus buds.
Worked great until the stock cord had problems with the strain relief and the connection.
Overall, to anybody who uses their headphones daily, this mod isn't worth it. The stock cord is just too cheap.

I believe I'd run into the same problem with the Klipsch wires failing. If I were to get the S4s again, I would get the reference series. Already have some extra comply tips, work fantastic.
I've been looking at picking up a pair of X10is for years. I just can't justify it if they are going to break. That and they don't have android integration.
Hello
Hello, I want to ask how dismantled the Samsung original headset? With what tool? And then they can be closed or have already broken? I am interested in whether threaded or glued?
thank you

I used long nose pliers to open it, it was glued, it can be closed again if you do it nicely, just glue it back with power glue.

hi guys... sorry for making another topic.... seriously i m screwed up... i decided to buy sound magic mp 21 but i couldnt find any online stores in india...
so i decided to leave it .... please find any other good quality headset(with mic)....
budget ~ 1k INR
I'd recommend you to head over to head-fi.org and check there for headphones for iPod/iPhone. People around here say that they work on Defy too.
Maybe after you find a model, you can go check it in a showroom or order it from an online shop to which you can easily return them.
Cheers!

u don't need it to wear it like that. they are not built for that. if you want, then try the m6p.
i tried it now and the phones are uncomfortable, and the mic is to close to the ear. the m9p should be use cable down. eod.
there are enough reviews on the net, and everyone is exact.

use hs u350 headphone set from htc
this is 2 piece handsfree, use the microphone cable and any earphone u like, it wrks fine. i already posted this in the accessory section, costed me 10 pounds, worth it

Pretty straight forward..the speakers on these devices are far from great..I recently refurbished my HTC EVO 4G and of course I had to find some way to recycle these parts..
I took apart my nook and placed the Speaker from my HTC EVO 4G on the contacts direcrly on the board. I used some tape to hold it in place..then re assembled.
.imgur.com/63SNj.jpg
This is a picture of the two speakers side by side..HTC speaker on the right in the stock location ..
Also what I did was unfold the contact leads on the speaker..I didn't need to do tht..but I will order a new speaker and do a proper write up..
I used the DSP app and adjusted the levels..
Its all proper now...

$3 on ebay!!!!
yeap..its pretty straight forward and super cheap..i just layed the speaker on the contacts and held it in place with doublesided tape..so when i reassembled it wouldnt move..
played around with the DSP settings and BOOM!!..
i havent gotten around to ordering a new one..but i did get it a touchstone charging kit that was dumb cheap and this weekend i plan on tackling that task ..which will give me the opportunity to get in there and take better pictures..
putting this speaker in is about as easy as legos..
the nook was designed pretty well and much like the HTC phones..

There's a problem with going that route. You're still using the same crappy speaker, just making it louder, and if you make it too loud for the speaker, it sounds terrible.
If you are using CM 7 on the nook color there is an app on the playstore called "nook tweaks" that will boost your speaker volume. It has all kinds of functions for the external and internal speaker.
Does it go to 11 now?
So I was out shopping with my wife and came across this. Thought it was pretty cool so I decided ti get it. Problem is that the base part won't fit the phone because it's too small. I'm trying to find a way to have it fit but not sure where to begin. .. any ideas? I(t's a Hype retro handset, but also included the base (or dock), which is where the issue is...

what is it?
It is a retro styled device that turns your phone into a 80's style desk phone. You can either rest your phone in the base part (or dock) and connect it through the supplied 3.5mm jack or you can use the handset piece separate and also plug just that part into the 3.5mm jack.
Here I thought I was bad taking pictures

It's something I could definitely see using at home. I had the phone in my front pocket and the handset hooked into the jack and was able to use it with no issues. The handset also has its own volume adjustment which is nice. That said, it's probably not for everyone...
It might look a bit strange carrying around the handset piece and using it in public hehe. For a relatively older guy like me (I'm 36), I grew up with these kinds of phones so it definitely appeals to me.
My sister in law just got herself the handset piece (you can buy it separate) and she likes it too.
The base (dock) will accomodate most other phones. But the Note 2 is too wide to fit the opening... so I'm trying to think of ways to either make it fit or some other solution..
Maybe this pic will help clarify...
That's my wife's Galaxy S3 in there..

I think it'll work on our phones, my only question is about that port on the back side that looks like a typical phone line port. I'm not sure what is it for, plus I cannot figure out whether the device actually charges the phone too..

There is one 3.5mm female jack on the left side of the device that the handset connects to. The handset can either be connected to that, or you can connect it directly to the phone's 3.5mm jack. If you connect the handset to the device, there is a male 3.5mm jack that is used as a passthrough for the handset to connect to the phone. At the bottom of the device the hole you see is to pass a cord for a wall charger, so no, the device itself won't charge your phone. Hope that clears things up a bit.
Does any one know what they will look like? do they include beats headphones? or are they even included with htc one
I don't think there's any pics up yet. You might want to search you tube for an unboxing. I see a few where they show the head phones.
