Hi guys was wondering if its possibal to make my pc a hotspot for my nexus 7. Will this help with speeds/signal on my N7 as i will be in the same room?, i followed a guide i found on the internetabout setting up a ad hoc hotspot but my N7 cant detect it is there apps i need for this or something i need to do on my N7? cheers.
Did u try this one? http://ph.news.yahoo.com/how-to-turn-your-windows-laptop-into-a-hotspot-070825656.html

Just a little confussed on this part
Step 3: To create a hotspot, type "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=yournetworkname key=yournetworkpassword," and hit Enter on your keyboard. Remember, "ssid" refers to the WiFi hotspot's name while "key" is said network's password. You can also use the aforementioned command to change the hotspot's name and password.
This mean i have to enter my routers SSID and Key or make my own that i will use to connect on my nexus.
never mind got it working, i forgot to start it lol, thanks alot i can now connect to my pc :good:
Lol good

Nexus 7 picks it up fine etc but only issue is when i try to connect it stays at obtaining IP address.
Back when I did it, it would take a little while to connect. Try turning the Wifi on the n7 on and off a few times

Nope no luck, looking at the connection i set up it says no network access in the status, i wonder if thats why or i have to use static ip. Also mypc is on a wireless adapter so not sure if i have to be on ethernet or not
I used the adapter too. Maybe it doesn't support WiFi sharing

Anyone know how to hook up wireless tether?
I hooked up my PS3 and 360 with WiFi tether, its easy too. Just put the console on wireless and scan. Know what you name your phone, I used my name, then select it and put the password in if you made one.(You should so can't no one else use your internet unless you want them too).
Once you get everything set, your phone should alert you that a device is trying to access its signal. Accept it and run a test on the Wii to make sure that you are good.
Hope that helps out.

Yeah I did all that and still getting an error on the wii
Which wireless tether app are you using? And is there anyway to get out of adhoc mode?

If you use the verizon 4g tether you are on infrastructure mode, and can connect to the wii.

Has anyone found a functional wireless tethering method? Or do any of the roms listed in the development section have tethering enabeled? Ive tried wifi tether several different versions with every setting combination and cant get it to work. Shows devices connected but no internet connection

Google's WiFi Tether app is a must-get:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Set the Device Profile in settings to LG Optimus S
I leave my Setup Method as 'Auto' and have no problems tethering a number of devices. Many people choose to set theirs to Softap. IMO I've seen no difference between the two so try both and choose which one you think works best for you.
Thanks joey but ive tried that setup and it will show connected but no actual internet. The main device im trying to connect is a wii.

I don't have a wii to test, but I've used the tether for rooted users to connect my computer and Kindle Fire with no issues whatsoever.

My Wireless Tether app was doing that same thing. I think Verizon does something on their end to block it.
You can use "Open Garden" from the Play store. It works. Used it this weekend.

Open garden works well. The only problem i could see was if the Wii doesn't like ad-hoc networks as tje tether apps I have seen are all Ad-hoc

Ill give open garden a try tonight and see if its wii friendly

Yeah, i knew this. Trying to do it using usb. some of the other samsung phones can do this.
What this would be good for.
1) no wifi router
2) connect phone using usb to pc
3) then using the internet from your pc
4) phone becomes wifi hotspot and wont affect data usage
5) use ipad or tablet to connect to phone and surf.
Get my drift?

Yes I get you, been doing the same thing on HTC phones
However, if you have a laptop with Windows 7, you don't need a wifi router
I use that method and turn my laptop to a wifi router and connect both my phone and tablet to it's network

I really like this idea. If anyone tries this please let us know if it works on the Note and If phone calls/sms are uninhibited during reverse tether.
Howdy -
Did a search on this topic but wasnt able to find anything useful.
- N7000 running build XXLRT
- I want to tether the device for serial / ethernet connectivity

I want to be able to connect my Note to networked devices. Note + Ethernet dongle/or usb = network access
See reverse tethering is just opposite to tethering.means running your pc's internet(whichever) on your note.
Please type in google and search for xda link.

Thanks for the note back. There has to be a solution for going right off an ethernet adapter.
Situation: No WIFI, only Ethernet, have my Note + Ethernet dongle. How to connect to the network using only a dongle + Note.
The reverse tether worked like a champ, but I'd like to connect without my computer.
Thanks again!
That is not possible as far as i know.
You know i tried to connect my tata photon plus thru otg but didnt work.
Hey! I think i have helped you...please hit thanks button!

Oh it is without a doubt possible. Out of the box, no root, no mod, the Xoom does it just fine. The connection must be through a DHCP router, but it works like a champ. I am new to the board and not allowed to post links or images yet - as soon as I can, I will put up some pictures.
Bottom line: OTG + Android device + Ethernet dongle works on other devices ... the question is, how does one get it to work on the N7000.
Oh, and I did give you a couple thanks!
So this was mentioned and never solved. But when I try to connect to my network I get " network disabled, because the connection is to slow" what else can I do to fix this. I actually called at&t and I did a master reset. So I connected to Starbucks wifi after. Which previously I wasn't able to before doing the master reset. But when I got here to my house. It wouldn't connect it keeps giving me this error. What can I do ?

Did you turn off auto network switch in WiFi advanced settings?
I have done that, and the problem still persists. J can connect to my own WiFi network at home. And I have another issue. Connecting to open networks. They sag to login, but they never let me access them.

If you disable this, it will stop prompting you about that and will also stay connected to not so great WiFi (if you have crappy WiFi).
It's actually been solved..I've posted this on a few other topics. Unless you were looking for something else?
I disabled it. Might be their WiFi isn't so great. But I am able to connect to my Comcast Wi-Fi.

Don't forget even if you have great Wifi there are a lot of factors that can make it unstable like interference

I actually tried all of that... and all that any of it did was prevent me from having web access, and prevent me to use my data plan for texting... it was a nightmare...
i've been chatting with samsung for 5 hours now and still don't have a fix. Any new info would be awesome to fix this problem.
