Just wondering, since some of the newer tablets let you hook up mini usb devices to it and so. Was wondering if there had been any adapters yet or so for us streak 7 users? Would be cool to get a wired controller hooked up and so.
You would need an OTG cable to do that, as dell doesnt make any you will have to make your own or use the HDMI dock.
Well I have the HDMI Dock, so I could use the dock then insert the usb device to that? Was thinking about getting that Logitech F710 with that usb dongle, heard it had support for android. What else would I need? Or hows that work fully.
As for the non dock part, has anyone made a cable yet to work?
if your device had a usb-a connector you have no choice then but to make a cable.
the sixaxis/ds3 uses a mini usb connector and might work though usb,
I know it and the wiimote will work over bt, with the wiimote being the easier to pair one.
Well I have the wiimote working fine, Issue there is.. Yea.. Battery drain on that remote. So figured maybe getting a adapter. I guess I need a USB to Mini micro usb? (The new style mini usb thing.. man I miss the old big RAZR size ones) How many of you have used a HID device or so on android or the streak 7?
you'd need to splice together the dock connector to preferably a USB-A female port, it'd be the most useful as you'd have a cable that could accept anything, but it'd mean you'd always need a minimum of 2 cables.
You'd also have to dissemble to dock connector itself i believe as the OTG pins are different from what's wired in the normal sync/charge cables, you cant simply cut the cable and rewire it, you'd prob have to cut the dock connector open and resolder
If you made a dock to micro usb connector it'd only accept devices that have a micro usb port on it.
Keep in mind usb mode means that the controller would be drawing power from the device itself, while controllers dont draw that much, it's still something to point out
Wouldnt this be all I need?
http://www.amazon.com/USB-Female-Mini-Male-Adapter/dp/B0016RNX2I/ref=pd_sbs_e_4
Would take the normal size usb dongle or cord, fits into the USB slot of the dock itself.
I havnt actually tried it but it sounds like that should work, i know that port is designed for otg connections so i'd assume it'd take care of the hard work.
When on 2.2.2 Did I need a special program for this to work? I know 3.x had native support. Just wondering. =) (Or can any game/emulator with key remapping auto detect)
if it's anything like the hoops needed for the s5 on 2.2.x yes, unless dell included their own code stuff to make it work, then i'm not sure.
I've never attached a controller to anything, wired or not so I can only say that much
Wonder what the app would be called or so, anyone know? I mean I ordered the part, should be here in a few days, then I can report any tests I have with a Rumblepad 2.
Ok tested it out, So far nada. Dont know if its even supposed to work.
Has anyone here hooked a wired controller up to their android? Running Honeycomb now too.
I know people talk about the F710, which I wonder if that works cause its battery powered?
So what's the verdict guys? Can a controller or other USB device be connected to the mini USB port on the docking station and work? If not, will it work if you plug in a mini USB OTG cable (like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-USB-Re...757?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6edf5335) into the docking station and then plug the controller into the OTG cable?
So far my verdict is nada.. dont think its supplying power to the usb ports. Now its been said that adapter based ones may work, something where controller is powered by batteries. Tho again. No one ever gives a real confirm.
My next area to branch out is http://www.onlive.com/controller 50$ but you can use a adapter for the pc. However it also works with bluetooth, something that the tablet DOES support and no adapter needed. Since I have the onlive app, least it will work 100% for THAT. Once my tax money comes in, Ill order the controller and see if it can work on emulators and so too. least then we will have 1 solid answer that has some good use. (Since honestly, onlive on the tablet really isnt bad at all!)
Why not bluetooth your ps3 controller though the sixaxis app on the market thats what I've done works great

To answer both. If I am not mistaken. PS3 controllers have to be "paired". Which means when you wanna play PS3 or Tablet.. got to re-pair them all the time, correct?
Wii-Motes I know you dont have to re-pair them. However.. one thing I hate... that to use the classic controller.. you need to have the Wiimote laying around somewhere.. then the cable for classic. Seems bulky for normal use.
Both controllers all are battery too. Would be nice for wired solutions. If I do anything wireless, I may as well get that Onlive controller with BT support.
If you have a sixaxis/DS3 dedicated to non-ps3 use: you only have to re-pair it every time you want to use it on a different device.
The sixaxis/ds3 do work in usb mode, at least on pcs. I dont recall if there's a solution to use it in usb mode on android (though i'd imagine it should, as usb mode is trivial to enable)
If you only have a single device to use it with, you only ever need to pair it once and then you're done.
Well, I finally went and tried hooking up a usb hub to my S7, and my results were absolute failures.
I bought an OTG <-> dell 30 pin a while back and a standard OTG <-> dock cable.
I dont have a baseline as I dont know offhand which kernels are specifically tested to work.
It seems to enable the hub (by enable I mean it powers up on detection of a host, it's wall powered)
on my S5 with ICS/Phoenix kernal (which is known to support usb hosting), but nada on my S7 with ICS B4/mod and stock 514.
Can anyone explicitly confirm that the b4 and stock kernals work with host?
I'm pretty sure nothing is happening on either of those, and as it works fine on my S7 it's definitely not bad cables/hardware.
Edit: at least the S5 is even capable of powering the hub itself, and with a dock it can charge at the same time. If it wernt for the terrible HDMI out on it, it would be a full on android pc with the dock.
The S7 on the other hand: I still cant get anything, remotely powered or self powered: it gives no response
I can tell you, yes, ICS kernel does have otg drivers but may not provide power to those devices.

Hi,
I just received an OEM Micro USB to HDMI adapter today.
I connected my Note to the adapter and then to the HDMI cable of my TV.
Unfortunately there is no HDMI signal on the TV side.
Now, I don't know howto activate TV output on the Note. I don't even know if that's possible.
Can anyone guide me on how to activate HDMI output on the Galaxy Note ?
Should I make any settings ?
Should I play a video ? (or would it give out video from HDMI even at home screen ?)
Should I power the phone and/or the HDMI adapter through USB ?
Thanks.

Connect HDMI cable to MHL adapter, and other end into TV. (duh...)
Plug your charger cable into the MHL adapter. (output won't work without this)
Plug your MHL adapter into Note. (no configuring required!)
Everything you do on your Note will be mirrored on your TV/Screen, at the Note's native 1280x800 resolution. Plain and simple!
Video's that are played via the MHL adapter will be played at their own native resolution, up to and including 1080p.
Enjoy!
thank you.
it doesn't work unfortunately.
maybe my adapter is not working but it passes power through USB.
how can I understand if it really doesn't pass HDMI ?

It's possible that you have a faulty adapter. It should just be plug and play, but you have to make sure that the adapter is receiving external USB power in order for it to work.
ok; it works now.
the micro USB connector was not fully connected...
thanks.
Similar issue
Hi, me to facing similar issue. The MHL adapter when connected does not show any notification on the screen. The only thing it does is charging the phone. Does it mean its a faulty adapter?
i hope i am answering my own question but still if there is anything which i may be missing here

and what rom and kernel are you on ?
I'm on stock running ICS and I get funky results, sometimes it works for a minute or two sometimes just a few seconds. The problem seems to be on the TV, a Sony Bravia, the HDMI setting has to be Wide for picture quality (it has zoom, smart zoom, wide, 16:9 and 4:3) but as soon as there is some glitch in receiving data from the phone the TV begins to scroll through those settings to regain a signal and I can't force a setting on wide for the HDMI connector, only for one of the SCART connectors.
The frustrating part is that it works flawlessly when I connect an Asus Transformer. Could it be the MHL's USB connector? If that is the case how can I check it?

Just in case anyone relooks this up.
Connect everything. Then REBOOT PHONE/NOTE. The TV will then detect it auto.
Hope this helps someone !!
It didnt help me... my sony bravia 32" tv just wont show the gnote's video. the same adapter works fine on my samsung 32" tv but not on the sony. I have even upgarded the sony tv's firmware too. tried changing to "Wide Zoom" settings and other things but still no video showing, although the tv does know there is something plugged in to HDMI port 1.

lol, just don't try that any sony device to work together with another samsung device, this is a general rule for electronic trademarks.

that sux, bluetooth is a standard and im sure there are no variants... they are cheap, so i will buy another one from ebay and see if it is bcos of the adpater and not the TV.

mhl n7000 camera not starting when connected
hi sorry for posting after 4 years on this thread. is the camera or camera using apps (like skype) working for anyone when the phone is coonected and displaying through mhl to tv? because whenever i try to use camera when i am connected it is not working. on stock 4.1.2. thank you
Didn't know we had our own thread now.
Anyways so I've been trying to hook my active up to my monitor -- an ASUS VX238H -- and I finally got the correct MHL to HDMI adapter, but I still can't get it to work and I've tried three different HDMI cables. With this Sypder C Class cable and this Belkin cable I have the phone would detect being plugged up to the HDMI, but the monitor wouldn't recognize it, and with this off brand cable when I plug it in my monitor goes black (and it has two HDMI inputs with my computer plugged into HDMI1 and the phone plugged into HDMI2). Is there a specific cable I need or perhaps cables without a specific feature (such as Ethernet)?
This is not intended to be a sarcastic response, but did you enable "Screen Mirroring"?

From what I read that was only needed for wireless connections and that HDMI connections didn't need that. Guess I'll give it a shot after work and see if that is the issue, but still I don't understand why the one cable would cause my monitor to go black despite me not having selected the HDMI2 input...
I have a cable left over from my Motorola Atrix 4G. I will give it a try tonight to see if I get any better results.

Ok so I tried enabling Screen Mirroring but it told me to disconnect the HDMI cable first. Guess I'll just have to wait till I get paid again and get a different HDMI cable to try with (one without Ethernet) and see if I have better results.
I was reading an article from pcmag about screen mirroring (Google "How to Connect Your Samsung Galaxy S 4 to Your TV"). It said something about using a specific MHL to HDMI connector and then connecting a separate HDMI cable and a power cable. I'm not sure why you would need all of the extra cables, especially the power cable. I would think that the digital audio and video signals would be low enough power that it would use less power than the backlight. Maybe there is something specific about the pinout of the Samsung USB that requires that particular cable. If I get a chance to try my other cable tonight, I will post the results. Good luck.

I had posted in the S4 QA section there are two different types of MHL-HDMI adapters.
A 5-pin variation for the older generation of phones like the S2 and the Infuse.
A 11-pin variation for the newer generation of phones like the S3 and S4.
The adapter does need some power to power it since it is an electronic device but not much. The rest of the power that's not used by the adapter is used to charge the phone.
I initially bought a 5-pin adapter because I didn't research enough before hand (it was a bit of an impulse buy) and so I didn't know there were two different types. I then bought an official Samsung MHL-HDMI 11-pin adpater which is what I've been using now.
I really think the issue is with the cables I'm trying to use so when I do get paid again I'm going to buy a HDMI cable with just the base A/V transfer and see if that works.
Please ignore what I said altogether. I assumed that I had a cable from my previous phone that would work for HDMI, but the cable that I have isn't even a USB connector. It has a completely different plug on it. I never used it on my last phone, and I didn't even remember the phone having two different plugs. Now, I am wanting to get the proper cable and try it. I have always thought that it would be cool to run XBMC on my phone.

That's the one I have now.
My cable came in today, and it works perfectly. It is the original Samsung (EPL-3FHUBEGSTA) MHL to HDMI cable. I noticed that they raised the price on ebay by $5.00. They can still be found for around $11 or $12 though. All I did was plug mine in to the phone, the power cable, and HDMI, and then, I selected "Screen Mirroring" in settings. The problem may be with you monitor. I have seen some monitors that do not connect with certain HDMI devices. I think it has something to do with supporting 1080i vs 1080p. I've never been able to test the theory, but at work we have a large plasma TV that very few devices (almost none) will connect to. I have found a few other, usually smaller, monitors that seem to do the same thing. Good luck.

Are you using a HDMI cable with Ethernet or just an A/V HDMI cable? All the HDMI cables I have have Ethernet except maybe my 360 HDMI cable. I'm going to order this other cable online and try with that and if it doesn't work then I'm just going to assume my monitor is like what you said. Just a fyi it's supposed to support 1080p.
Ok just thought I'd provide an update. I got the Belkin A/V (no Ethernet) cable in today and it too didn't work so I'm just going to chalk it up to my monitor not supporting the MHL signal. I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised since it is a computer monitor after all.
Hi All,
So I had what I thought was the genius idea of buying a Chrome Cast to hook up to my old projector for instant Netflix et al. cinema in my living room, it's all set up... screen, speakers everything but there's just one small problem, no picture.
The reason it isn't straightforward forward is that my projector is old enough not to have an HDMI port, though it does say that it supports HDMI on it's DVI port using an adaptor. (Which I can't find). Also of course I'd have no sound.
What I have...
So with a little research I bought this HDMI to VGA + 3.5mm Jack Audio Cable Video Converter Adapter, I also bought a couple of gender changers, one VGA and one HDMI to get the whole lot to stick together.
The projector is an Optoma ThemeScene H57, so quite old but actually pretty decent (hence reluctance to take the plunge on a new one and also because this was supposed to be a cheap project)
What is happening...
What I'm experiencing is a black screen, which I am now attributing to HDCP problems... the projector scans and detects that there is a source plugged in the way you'd expect and looks like it's gone through the process of adjusting to that source signal and then just happily displays a black screen. Occasionally it also says "Out of Range". The sound comes out garbled when trying to play netflix or youtube.
I have tried it with a VGA to DVI adaptor into the DVI input to witht he same result.
I have also tried plugging my Nexus 10 into the HDMI input on the convertor, this yields a different result, white static, but still no picture.
The projector does work... it's even briefly displayed a chrome logo when I tried factory resetting the Chromecast while it was plugged into the projector (via the adaptor obviously) but then just returned to the black screen.
A weird caveat to all this is if I play something on Play Music then I still get a black screen but the sound comes out fine.
What I plan to try
I read that HDCP can cause problems like this and that it can sometimes be fixed using a powered HDMI splitter. Apparently this negotiates the HDCP handshake with the Chromecast and then passes on the signal to the two output ports, which sounds a bit dodgy, why is it so simple to bypass? Plus it's £30 for one of those which means my cheap project is getting more and more expensive.
So...
Any help on this would be really REALLY appreciated. Please.

I'm afraid the only solution is to get an HDCP compliant projector...
CCast will only pass on HDCP info from the Device it is plugged into, but has no HDCP of it's own. And it can not be faked.
The Adapter will also break any HDCP as HDCP is meant to deny you the ability to do what your trying to do in the name of not letting you make copies of the content.
You will be fine with Content that does not require a HDCP signature to play (self ripped movies or non-DRM materials) but something like Netflix has little chance of working without some HDCP compliant device being connected the the CCast.
You can get a standard HDMI DVI adaptor for cheap, and maybe this will allow HDCP information to be kept. However you may be unable to keep the audio stream without a more elaborate device.

It is actually HDCP compliant... so does that mean it's the adaptor that's breaking it? Is there such a thing as an HDCP respectful adaptor with an Audio splitter?

Yes you're essentially converting a Digital signal to analog and HDCP only works via Digital.
A Real HDMI to DVI adapter as suggested may help but make sure in the specs it says it will pass HDCP.
And do make sure it also has Audio Breakout.

Your projector is a little newer than my Sony VPL-HS10, but it might have the same issue - the marketing wasn't 100%. My VPL-HS10 initially said it was HDCP-compliant on the DVI-D port, but ended up that it isn't. Well, it might be for a few select devices, but it isn't up-to-spec for the general standard.
What you really need is an HDCP stripper, but those are illegal in most parts (especially the US).
Your other potential problem is that the adapter may not be converting the HDMI timings over to VGA, and rather expecting the receiving device to compensate. Some can, some can't.
The specs for your projector says it has a DVI-I port, so it might accept analog on that port.
So first I'd try connecting DVI-to-VGA adapter (the ones that normally come with video cards to get VGA out of the DVI port) and connecting Chromecast --HDMI--> HDMI-to-VGA --VGA--> DVI-to-VGA adapter --DVI--> Projector and see if you get a different result on the DVI input - sometimes the scaler is separate or different for different inputs.
If that doesn't work, I recommend HDfury2 or newer - beware of counterfeits as there are many fakers online. I have successfully used HDfury products with my Sony projector from various sources. You'll want the HDfury2 or newer to get the audio breakout, which is a 3.5mm (1/8-inch) analog stereo and digital (optical TOSlink).

I bought the same stupid converter you showed in the image.

I'm I the only one?

Worked for me with a HP MHL Enabled monitor. Just be sure the input is marked MHL ready. Not all HDMIs on a device are MHL Enabled. THere was some scanning, manual for my monitor as i kept the connection to the workstation alive while connecting another device (the phone). You can try a different ROM from XDA. I see it mostly as a software issue. The phone needs to start some services when connecting.

My old galaxy S4 and S3 worked flawlessly. With the M8 I've tried 3 different adapters on 2 tvs and one projector and it just doesn't work. I didn't know that the TV had to be MHL compatible, never heard about that before, are you absolutely sure? Isn't hdmi a universal thing? I've tried custom ROMs, same thing. I don't get it.

I think the adapters for Samsung and HTC are different. There are 5-pin adapters for the HTC and 11-pin for the Samsung and there isn't backward compatibility I think. You should check this first.
