hi,i've always been a fan of the optimus 4x hd and finally bought one a week ago. was too excited to update to jellybean that i ignored all the problems i heard about and now i can't live with the problems in this update.
i read about a lot of problems with the update but after using it for a week(heavy user) ,the only problems i see are the lag and the slow charging.
i could've lived with anything but this lag is too much to take in. it gets so painfully slow sometimes. i mean,it's a quad core beast for crying out loud!
what is the best way to fix this?
should i go back to ICS?
should i root and install a custom rom??
any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Install custom kernel and wipe all. There should be no laggs. Or flash custom rom and kernel or roll back to ics.
There is already an jelly bean lagg thread. Why not use search function ?

what i mean is what is the easiest, safest way to fix it. the phone is brand new (and quite expensive here) i don't wanna brick it or something.
does any of these solutions require rooting?

Yes, they require rooting, unlocking the bootloader etc. Please, please start using the search function.
If your phone is expensive and you can't afford to risk it then you shouldn't ever be messing around with it as there is always a risk in anything.

To reduce the lags,
Type 3845#*880# on the dial pad and enter the hidden menu.
Scroll down, select MLT, uncheck the box at the bottom and restart your phone.
For fast charging, enter the hidden menu, select Module test/Charging test. Check the box at the top, replug your charger and voila!

No you don't have to do that. MLT has nothing useful for the end user.
Backup your data and try factory reset for the lagging problem.
Sorry but these are the only two solutions i know.
If you decide to root your phone one day, you may try LGP880 Booster for better gaming experience and fast charging. Search the forum for the download link.

It's not about being stupid. The very first rule of XDA is to always search before asking any question.
I wasn't being rude or condescending, just honest about the risk to your phone if you can't afford to take that chance.
Maybe you should consider winding your neck in a little bit, you're new on here and need to learn the rules before you go mouthing off at people who have been here a while and take a lot of time to help people on the forums.

Try them out and judge for yourself. "Best ROM", "Best Kernel" etc threads are not allowed on XDA as you will get as many different opinions as people who reply, and they tend to lead to arguments.

1)For flashing a new kernel you need to be rooted.
2)battery drain depends on apps you use and also your screen brightness, bluetooth, gps, data etc
3)try to find out if you are having wakelocks or some fault woth battery
4)try reading about some battery saving tips.
5)get an extended aftermarket battery of need be.
6)have a nice day

Download betterbatterystats from this forum and see if you have a wakelock issue. If you don't then you've got a dud battery, it should perform much better than that.

dude you shouldn't be writing here if you think that. go to your favorite forums.
cuteabuser - dont listen to Bozo The Clown calvincharles. Everything you need to know is on this forum. Use the search button in the Note Forum and search for battery. You should get a bunch of stuff that comes up. Turn off stuff you dont use especially sync stuff. If you are techy enough once you get into it then you can mess with stuff like Tasker. I use Tasker to turn on GPS when I open the apps that use GPS. I set times for my bluetooth to turn on before work and after work etc when I am driving. This is all so I dont have these things running all the time. I learned all this stuff from here.
When I first got my Note it immediately asked for update so I did. It was getting horrible battery life after that and I didnt even use it before the update. I ended up rooting and custom romming this bad boy and turned all kinds of crap I dont use off. Now I get all day unless I have my screen on. Then its only maybe 3 hours of constant on.
Good luck and read read read...its what I did.

First and foremost, before you try anything, like wipes or formats, I would advise you to download and flashthis kernel based on the current firmware you have. It is a stock safe ICS kernel, because stock Samsung ICS kernels are very much unsafe to wipe or format from. It will give you root however, so if you don't want root, then you can just use the supersu app that gets installed to make a permanent unroot. But atleast you'll be on a safe kernel, and you won't have to worry about any bricks. Then download betterbatterystats as mentioned above and use this thread to determine any wakelocks or battery munchers. If the need be comes that you need to send it to Samsung for any reason, there is another kernel thread in the original development section that gives you all stock ICS kernels you can flash.
And go through the forum, and read all the stickies. They answer all questions.

From time to time you might feel like that. But it does not mean that you can't tamper with a phone, especially a nexus one.
Yes if I would buy an s4 the only thing that I would is root it just for the sake of TB.
But with the nexus you can do anything and is super easy to return to where you were.
And no counter or avoiding warranty by unlocking the bootloader you just need 3 words to lock or unlock it and of course a backup
I don't say you have to become a crack flasher but trying mods and roms will make you have a better perspective and even convince you that stock is better.
Anyway, everything is up to you.
You can always leave it at stock and wait for that much desired OTA.
Cheers mate

No, I don't feel like this because I own a nexus device.
Kinda off topic question: what does everyone need titanium backup for? I always see people saying "the only reason I root is for TB", but why would you need to backup your apps if your not flashing Roms?

I used to feel like this. Back when I had a g2x I flashed because I HAD to frequently. Every ROM would inevitably become unstable and I would find myself looking for a new ROM to flash. Annoying as hell really. My n4 is rooted stock 4.2.2 w/ franco kernel for help with battery drain. I truly yearn for the day that I don't have to do anything to a phone. Not even root. Will the nexus line eventually come pre-rooted as well as unlocked? A man can dream can't he?

I don't feel like I need to install a custom rom with this device. Tweaking it with a few mods gets me what I need. I still don't get why some refuse to mod the phone because they want to get the next ota update. Once it is released, all one has to do is flash a rooted version that should appear here within 24 hours.

I don't understand why it doesn't come pre-rooted. Just like enabling the Developer options, there should be some method needed to enable root, aside from the whole custom recovery custom root solution thing. Normal users aren't exposed directly to root, and power users who need root, can easily enable it. And... new users can root too without the need of those toolkits :good:

Wait a 60 seconds then close window and upload, do this as soon as you boot. We need also a last_kmsg of the reboot issue if one is created (sometimes it isn't). For this just copy /proc/last_kmsg and upload after the reboot happens, if it doesn't exist then it wasn't created during your reboot. My friend @laufersteppenwolf is working on a fix for this, he thinks its due to bad sources, he already has my logs but some additional "testimony" might be helpful
The boot log is not required, only the log, recording the crash

Thanks mate, I'm gonna get my replacement tomorrow, if it still reboots I know how to reliably reproduce it. Kmsg sometimes gives different stuff, no pipe error, system bin files not existing, and sometimes no error at all. The games Modern combat 3 and 4 frequently cause this reboot, my favourite games seem to be the "control" here, damn seriously big thanks here, you don't even own the device!

Which superuser app do you use? After switching from supersu to clockwork su reboots seem to have stopped. But sometimes they don't happen for a while. New from three, only a month in, they gave me a second one, still happens sometimes. The new .142 firmware helped, now it only seems to happen with < 35% battery, so I think it relates to that. You said you had some shutdowns on low battery too right? I think on the previous firmware something really intensive like playing modern combat 4 online caused some sort of power failure, on the new one its only unstable once the battery is low. So its bearable now, once my battery is that low I tend to recharge
Sent from my LT30p using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I am affraid that the battery in T is big fail. It is not normal, to have such big drop in voltage (in li-on battery) on heavy load.
In full load, the voltage drop can be about 300 - 400 mV, which means when you have 3,6V (which could be around 40%) and the battery drops to 3,2V, that the phone shuts down. Android probably doesn't know that, because it isn't stable 3,2V so there is no notification.
Install Cooltool, go to advanced, custom label path, write there "/sys/devices/platform/msm_ssbi.0/pm8921-core/pm8921-charger/power_supply/battery/voltage_now" and select labels, custom label.
Watch the voltage when playing.
I already ordered new battery, so I will test it with new.
Btw what is the capacity of your battery? There are two - 1850 and 1780 mAh.

For these who suffer similar problem like me, u can try this fix see it work on you or not. It is not a perfect fix c/w some random freeze bug but at least it settle my WIFI issue for temporary.
Is was a wifi file from 4.1.1 JB LS2 rom. i extract it from Rocket ROm LS2
U can flash it in recovery but before turn it to recovery make sure u off ur phone wifi 1st and if u can't off it u can used airplane mode to force it off.

Happy trying and do give feedback how was it so it can help more ppl out there.

hi i just upgrade my N7000 rom from LSZ to LT4
After i upgrade i notice one weird thing that my wifi become unstable which it will shut itself down after sometimes and than it hard to turn it on.
It just stuck and searching network or turning on..... than off against
I wish to know it is anyway to check the bug?
I been trying different kernel from Phizl-hydra-sppedmod all also give bad news only.
Is that any different wifi module between LSZ era and newer rom?
Not only few of user from my country forum also suffer similar problem that had hard time to turn the wifi on.
i kind of worry there is process or error that auto kill the wifi off
Hope pro here can guide me to solve this mystery and i been searching on google which seem no had any final solution to this.

You are not alone in this. I'm searching Google almost everyday as I have the exact same problem for more than a month now. It started few days post flashing ultimate ROM coming from the good old Criskelo ROM.
I've tried almost every software (ROM, KERNEL, STOCK and CM) and hardware solution. Still can't figure out why it happens!
But what I'm quite certain is it isn't the WiFi chip (bluetooth still works) nor hardware (changed batteries and the charging port board).
What I can advise is to try another modem I found that XXLPT works best for me. Wifi is more stable, reconnects immediately on disconnections, and less Freezing. However, I till have infrequent auto reboots. Reboots are relatively better than having a phone that doesn't wakeup from lock or screen of deaths that drove me crazy.
You will find others are having problems with LT4, I did too.

Yes I did change my micro USB port with an original one from another screen broken phone. But the WiFi is still acting strange. Seems unrelated to the problem. Opening the phone and cleaning inside and reconnecting cables didn't work for me.

Did you make sure the revision number matched? If not and you still have the original part, have a look and check if it's the same. If not it won't work properly even though it's from another note.

I used the file download from there which is basically a 4.1.1
I had another look at the thread I couldn't find files for 4.1.2. Do you have them on you?
Please forward them to me if so.
Thanks

Did reinstalling the ROM solve your Wifi problem? I've flashed and reflashed so many ROMS now that my phone is starting to glow.
Referring to your question, yes, I have tried other SIM cards.
I have installed CM 1.2 and I hate it. The wifi is worse, all of the popular apps (Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp, etc.) are not available trough Google Play, the battery drains about 5% per hour in idle, it's buggy because it won't lock when I press the power button.
I can't find any differece between CM and JB except that CM has a bit different settings and more bugs.
How do I go back to ICS? JB sucks on P880 because the phone will get laggy due to low RAM.
If I go back to ICS, can I use my warranty for the phone or is it screwed because I have unlocked the bootloader? Is there no way to lock it again?

I did not say that CM is laggy. I tend to never get spelling errors on the CM keyboard, but on the JB stock keyboard I do a lot of spelling errors...
Anyway I hate CM because:
- Sometimes I can not lock the phone by pressing the power button.
- When the phone is locked the display will be black for 2-3 seconds when I press the power button
- My WiFi connection is weaker
Yeah, it pretty much just feels like JB but more buggy...

See, this is why I can't be arsed sticking to CM. There is so many ****ty fixes you have to do for every little problem that occurs. I just want to install a ROM that just works instantly. Like JB except that it's laggy as ****.

Ehm this here is xda, we are developers, its not easy.
If you dont want all this flashing fixing then go and stay on your sweet stock rom or buy nokia 3300...
And on stable cm theres no bugs. You have installed it uncorrectly. Dont give cm the fault. Without this fixes theres also no bugs kiddy

If your ROM is so good coded, why can you not make a guide that is easy to follow? There are so many ****ty steps and tons of different threads made by kids that you have to go through in order to install CM.
Also the battery icon is disproportionately thin. It's so ugly and looks so unaligned that I want to cry every time I see it.

You are so a kid. Its so easy, and look for youtube tutorials how to install cm !
Yeah its ugly. But in CM you can change Theme and Design. All looks like Galaxy S3 oder HTC One whatever you want. Keep your eyes open and find the Designoptions ... Cry over cm, you kid.

My first impression when trying to install CM on a smartphone is "this is messy and the documentation is bad", which doesn't increase my hope for the ROM at all... If the developers can't make it easy to install, then how good is the actual code?

to me it looks like that!
- if u cant lock the phone properly then maybe something is wrong with your gapps u used.
- if u have big latency to unlock maybe: either u run on low cpu values/ powersave or conserve governor/ homescreen is with some live wallpaper connecting to the internet to send ads and a theme thats overweight.
- wifi definately isnt weaker. maybe it sometimes shows wrong signal bars on statusbar ( for example im above my router and sometimes i see 3 bars out of 4, but checking the signal further i see that its at his maximum power ).
About cm ? yea first impression is always the tough one. even when we saw boobs for the first time when we were kids, we thought OMG those are nice. it cant everything be so easy, click here and everything is done...

agreed to that xD iphone is so easy to jailbreak etc. cydia has everything setup so easy, "press a button and do your magic"
but we are on 5s now and still the galaxy s4 is better when we buy apple, we pay the apple logo. this apple logo costs one and a half months salary in greece.
