1)For flashing a new kernel you need to be rooted.
2)battery drain depends on apps you use and also your screen brightness, bluetooth, gps, data etc
3)try to find out if you are having wakelocks or some fault woth battery
4)try reading about some battery saving tips.
5)get an extended aftermarket battery of need be.
6)have a nice day

Download betterbatterystats from this forum and see if you have a wakelock issue. If you don't then you've got a dud battery, it should perform much better than that.

How dare you? Xda is the king! You've made 5 posts, mate, a forum needs to be used to get the most out of it.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

dude you shouldn't be writing here if you think that. go to your favorite forums.

cuteabuser - dont listen to Bozo The Clown calvincharles. Everything you need to know is on this forum. Use the search button in the Note Forum and search for battery. You should get a bunch of stuff that comes up. Turn off stuff you dont use especially sync stuff. If you are techy enough once you get into it then you can mess with stuff like Tasker. I use Tasker to turn on GPS when I open the apps that use GPS. I set times for my bluetooth to turn on before work and after work etc when I am driving. This is all so I dont have these things running all the time. I learned all this stuff from here.
When I first got my Note it immediately asked for update so I did. It was getting horrible battery life after that and I didnt even use it before the update. I ended up rooting and custom romming this bad boy and turned all kinds of crap I dont use off. Now I get all day unless I have my screen on. Then its only maybe 3 hours of constant on.
Good luck and read read read...its what I did.

Read the stickies on this forum. They should help.

First and foremost, before you try anything, like wipes or formats, I would advise you to download and flashthis kernel based on the current firmware you have. It is a stock safe ICS kernel, because stock Samsung ICS kernels are very much unsafe to wipe or format from. It will give you root however, so if you don't want root, then you can just use the supersu app that gets installed to make a permanent unroot. But atleast you'll be on a safe kernel, and you won't have to worry about any bricks. Then download betterbatterystats as mentioned above and use this thread to determine any wakelocks or battery munchers. If the need be comes that you need to send it to Samsung for any reason, there is another kernel thread in the original development section that gives you all stock ICS kernels you can flash.
And go through the forum, and read all the stickies. They answer all questions.

My 2 cents.

Ok, you are not going to like this, but I just have to share my experiance with the 4.0.X series.
None, is good enough for daily use, yet.
Example: In my car, BT on, GPS on and incoming call hangs. Total lock up, random reboot. Messages: Contact process do not answere, would you like to terminate process. FB, same. Go Launcher, same.. other apps, same. Had ardx or CK kernal. No hyper settings, nothing more than on a regular GB rom.
I am starting to have dissbelieves on 4.X.X on this device. Reason? CPU and RAM in combination of looked up drivers our excellent developers can't get their hands on and mix/crossovers from other devices ports
Question: Is there anyone loobying / connected to Qualcomm/Huawei?
What can I do?
Please, this IS NOT any critique to anyone involved with any rom, port, dev, member or post. Just a question on where we are heading.

Same my thoughts and that is the reason I'm still on GB (Bumblebee), I was getting lot of Launcher Redraws also on 4.0.4 and all the other problems which you mentioned and the culprit is our RAM which is not even 512mb (only 351 or 356MB), if you switch off running background processes then what's the use of a smartphone without multi tasking.
Hi chrillefr...Have you tried IceCold 8.0...Before this ROM I had the same feeling what you have now...but since this ROM has come I have tried other ROM's experimenting but I revert back to this ROM.
Your feedback on this?...Our developers are working hard to get the perfect ROM for this phone.

.. yes, a bit of that in my mind. I know dev's are working their ass of to get all of this together and I'm blessed to take part of it too. Also, I'm thinking about "less" important features such as FM and full cam support, compiling kernals etc but I feel a bit helpless not being able to contribute more than on a philosophical level...

Multitasking, cam, BT and GPS and no wait state is what I need for daily use. Cam corder and front cam if possible.
Now, battery is good, sound and tether too.
Lets say I want to relie on my phone around others, not necessary stand out but not die on me like an old car that I don't know if it takes me from A to B.
Roms are getting larger both on cpu and gpu, just as computers and I guess we are getting closer to the limit with this one. So build light.

Very true bro.
After extensively testing most of the roms in this forum, especially the ics ones, I've finally gone back to Sharp Rom fix 1, as most of the ics roms are not really designed for our device and though the Devs are doing there best to make it work but let's face is, I don't think our device can take that much any more. I personally multitask a lot and its very annoying and embarrassing when it fcs or reboot while your trying to show something to someone. As for me I think am gonna stick with Sharp for a while till something comes out of all the ics roms. I've asked if ck could make his kernel compatible with sharp cos I fill that will make it great.
Also don't you guys think most of these roms that aren't really meant for our phones that we regularly flash can be detrimental to the health of our phones at the long run? Like Chris will say, just my 2 cents lol.
This is just my personal opinion and am sorry if it makes some peep feel bad.

As Wesleyel said I also feel that ICS is not running smooth on our devices, I still feel that CPU and GPU are quite capable of running it but RAM is really giving us a headache, you can see that lot of 1ghz or less phones are running ICS nicely like ZTE Blade, skate, some Huawei phones also.... anyhow presently would like to stay on GB and will like to see what Jelly Beans port come to our devices by the devs
Well, I call this good news bcause I had a Blade before this. So now I can recommend ICS to them too. Any special port you'd suggest? Again, good to see you around!

Is samsung gonna fix the bug on 4.0.4 or what?

Hi fellas,
Im just wondering is there any fix on 4.0.4?
I mean the battery issues and overheated device? Cuz im thinking of rooting my device in the end to just giving it a try. But it will void the warrany for sure. So, just wanna know if any of ya all just happen to know if thers any fix coming out real soon. So that i can wait.
It seems that my device is now consider as useless piece of s...t just wondering why would i want to use this so called smartphone if i cant use live wallpaper, push email, screen brightness for my luvly super amoled screen and so on if it drains the battery like thirsty camel. It just a thought tho.... U guy might be thinking the same. So, i did all the the things like calibrating the batt, installed cpuspy, take out the batt on plane mode trick and so on.. , yes it did help the device to sleep. But it drains when im using it for 3 hrs with a lil bit of surfing, emails and sketching .it just doesnt make any sense at all.
Dont you guy think that samsung is trying to lure us to change to s3? Or note 2? Well it did cross my mind. Lol. i might not consider samsung in the near future. I guess, htc x one is my choice cuz it offers 6hrs batt. Hehehe

dude battery life with screen on in clean condition, without fancy stuff is only 3.5 hours. Some with other kernels/roms have reported 4 or even 5 hours, but that's really max
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
It is a power hungry phone,
Large screen - If you've got your brightness all the way up will use more power
Live Wallpaper - Pretty - Battery drainer
Games - Power hungry
etc
As mentioned - you cannot expect to use a phone like this for 8/9/10 hours with constant use, At 3 hours constant use, screen on, probs wi-fi / data, Gaming, listening to music.. you will see the battery drain quicker..
Could alsways pick up a one of those larger Mugen Power Batteries / second stock battery if your usage demands it... I've got two stock batteries but the actual amount of times I've need to call on the backup one is rare, I keep it handy as both me and my girlfriend have GNote's.

Well then there are ways to analyse, as posted above for abnomal battery drain in deepsleep, when not using phone. That is one option.
Best guess is to do a full clean install of 404 by going to gb through pc odin, root it, get on cwm recovery, wipe cache, dalvik cache, backup efs, save pictures on computer, backup messages with app from play, sync contacts to gmail and then backbin recovery format everything in mounts, except efs, ofcourse.
Then phone wont boot, but is truly squicky clean. Then go into download mode and flash throught oc odin a stock 404 rom.
Do not recover apps/data, just manually redownload them.
Dont ever on unsafe kernel from stock ics do these steps. EVER!
Then download cwm. zip which is temp and flash speedmod k3-11 from recovery. I bet your battery life will improve and you will get 4 hours screen on time. Not as good as on gb,but still better then now
there are threads for every single step here, start in dr ketans thread in sticky section of development. Then tool thread of dr ketan in general section.
disclaimer: you can and will lose data and possibly warrantee

Same here. GNote with ICS 4.0.3 has a worse battery life compared to GB, not to mentioned occasional freeze and unresponsive screen, also broken wifi-direct. Pretty disappointed with Samsung in the software department. Jelly Bean was already out and OTA for ICS 4.0.4 for both my GNote and GTab 7.7 not yet available in my country. 1.Charge battery with phone turned on until galaxy is fully charged
2.UnplugTurn off phone and charge for one hour
3.UnplugTurn galaxy on, wait 3 minutesTurn off phone and charge for one hour
4.Reboot
And now my batt is coming back to its normal performance... I get around 11hrs 45 min on standby and at least 6hrs of moderate usage.... Thank god. Hopefully it will last..

lol email push 5 min, dont think you know push technology...
Anyways, those six hours is not with screen on all the time.
Doing the steps I mentioned however will force a full clean install. Then test without restoring apps battery, you will be amazed. Then install in batches or one by bone to eliminate possible culprit that impacts battery life.
Perhaps even better to go to samsung/shop where you bought and ask them to fix it If it is battery they will catch it and replace Less risk for you

about the alarm_rtc wakelock;
install terminal emulator from market and type these commands:

- dumpsys alarm ( followed by ENTER )
it will dump some info on your screen

Help i have irritating problems with my note

This problem started since i was in kdv7.4 and my kernel was glnote core forgot what version it was the last version before hydracore.. using oc version and my voltage group is B
Here is the bug
Some times when i use the phone something appears in my screen its like a black and white wave going down.. after that black and white wave i will soon lose my signal.. at the same time i notice that the gnote is very hot.
I upgraded my kernel to hydracore still the same issue happening( tried to report my prob in the hydracore forum if someone can help me there apparently none)
The above bug was not that irritating yet because the bug will only last for about 5-8seconds..
Now i change my rom to asylum aokp rom v2.0 the problem got worst
The phome usualy goes very hot radomly even without playing games.. then black and white wave going to occur and will shut my mobile signal this will last in a minute.. to solve the prob i need to plug in a charger... tried to ask in asylum forum if they had the same bug they said that their rom is fully stable. And also sometimes when this problem occurs my phone just automatically turn off.. (battery around 50-70 percent) when i try to turn it on again battery now 1 percent dont know why??? Can some one help me with this??? I always do a clean install of roms and kernels.. help please..

Once I had a real nasty battery drain, about 1%/min. Solved it with battery calibration. But never experienced such drain as you describe and don't know how to solve that yet. Does this happen even directly after clean rom installation, or could it be any app or tweaking settings you do afterwards? Do you have the time to check CPU+GPU speed when you notice your note suddenly start becoming hot, and also apps CPU usage, before it crash? Maybe you can get a hint there. Does the same thing happen if you start phone in Safe Mode? It's a good idea to backup rom before you boot into Safe Mode.

Not sure what u mean by 'Better', every kernel has its good and bad side.
Also try moving to Standard version instead of Overclocked. Some Note can not handle OC.

Hi Pierre.. I saw your video and I too am puzzled on what's causing your phone to just suddenly turn off.
just out of curiosity, you did not install some overclocking apps on your phone right? no tegrak mumbo jumbo stuffs to change or speed up your phone before right?
Now if your not using any overclocking apps... you can try using a different brand new battery on your phone and see if the issue still persist after.
Replace your battery.
I believe this is caused by your battery because i get that wave when i use a non original battery ( some cheap ****ty battery ) and that wave starts when im at low battery.
you can borrow from your friends to see whether im right or not

Yes, then Samsung service centre
No, incompatibility with what you had installed Dont go back, unless you install newest versions everything
Send it to samsung service .. they said that my battery port(at the back) was grounded that was the cause of it that also made my battery bloated.. they will change the whole motherboard for warranty.. Back to Scratch..

[Q] Best rom for battery life

Hi guys,
I know probably someone has asked this question before, and it is the case of experimenting and finding out which is best. got a great deal on a used samsung galaxy s as my backup phone (htc one is my main chicken lol). so went through the procedure of rooting and what not, ive tried a few 4.2.2 roms but for some reason im getting a lot of battery drain( screen off) from a fresh install with no apps other than gapps installed, what roms have you experienced gives you decent battery life?
try 4.1 for smart battery usage, but check app running n manage it first

From my experience I can recommend any SlimROM - currently using SlimBean 4.1.2 (v2.9) and it works very well when it comes to battery management. With wifi and 3G launched from time to time, a bit of messaging and few short phone calls a day I charge it every 2-3 days. Running Semaphore kernel.
well if you go to the DEV section you'll find several ROM's diserv to try i had the same question like you the only way to check out is to search on the DEV and give a try for each ROM ^^

laggy jellybean 4.1.2

hi,i've always been a fan of the optimus 4x hd and finally bought one a week ago. was too excited to update to jellybean that i ignored all the problems i heard about and now i can't live with the problems in this update.
i read about a lot of problems with the update but after using it for a week(heavy user) ,the only problems i see are the lag and the slow charging.
i could've lived with anything but this lag is too much to take in. it gets so painfully slow sometimes. i mean,it's a quad core beast for crying out loud!
what is the best way to fix this?
should i go back to ICS?
should i root and install a custom rom??
any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Install custom kernel and wipe all. There should be no laggs. Or flash custom rom and kernel or roll back to ics.
There is already an jelly bean lagg thread. Why not use search function ?

Yes, they require rooting, unlocking the bootloader etc. Please, please start using the search function.
If your phone is expensive and you can't afford to risk it then you shouldn't ever be messing around with it as there is always a risk in anything.

hi,i've always been a fan of the optimus 4x hd and finally bought one a week ago. was too excited to update to jellybean that i ignored all the problems i heard about and now i can't live with the problems in this update.
i read about a lot of problems with the update but after using it for a week(heavy user) ,the only problems i see are the lag and the slow charging.
i could've lived with anything but this lag is too much to take in. it gets so painfully slow sometimes. i mean,it's a quad core beast for crying out loud!
what is the best way to fix this?
should i go back to ICS?
should i root and install a custom rom??
any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated.

To reduce the lags,
Type 3845#*880# on the dial pad and enter the hidden menu.
Scroll down, select MLT, uncheck the box at the bottom and restart your phone.
For fast charging, enter the hidden menu, select Module test/Charging test. Check the box at the top, replug your charger and voila!

you don't have to answer me. so you don't have to be rude and condescending. if you think i'm being stupid by not using the search just ignore me. but don't be rude. you've been no help,by the way.

No you don't have to do that. MLT has nothing useful for the end user.
Backup your data and try factory reset for the lagging problem.
Sorry but these are the only two solutions i know.
If you decide to root your phone one day, you may try LGP880 Booster for better gaming experience and fast charging. Search the forum for the download link.

It's not about being stupid. The very first rule of XDA is to always search before asking any question.
I wasn't being rude or condescending, just honest about the risk to your phone if you can't afford to take that chance.
Maybe you should consider winding your neck in a little bit, you're new on here and need to learn the rules before you go mouthing off at people who have been here a while and take a lot of time to help people on the forums.
thanks, again. i appreciate you taking the time to reply

Try them out and judge for yourself. "Best ROM", "Best Kernel" etc threads are not allowed on XDA as you will get as many different opinions as people who reply, and they tend to lead to arguments.
