When I registered my new Nook HD+ it adopted my wife's name as the primary user. Apparently this cannot be changed. Can anyone here verify that a full factory reset erases the primary user profile name? I do not want her name on the device.

If you meant "erase and deregister", yes it will remove her name. But if you register again with B&N using the same email address, her name will come back. You must register using a different email if you want your name on it.

Thanks. I took a deep breath and reset to factory default. Then changed the email on the BN account to a different provider. It still came up with my wifes name. Next, established a clean new BN account under my name and a different email provider and reset again. That time it worked. Now busy rebuilding the Nook as I had it configured.
I think it's could be not so easy, as it looks like.
I'm not sure, it's not confirmed, but I have a report from user who says his Nook was blacklisted after (he said "just erase and deregister from a device itself".
So, in order to make a pure reset, you probably have to login to your wife's B&N account, goto Manage My Nook, select a device and Deregister it.
It will delete all of the books purchased on this account, and you will be able to legaly register a device after that.

If the device successfully completes the erase and deregister then it is removed from the account on the B&N server. Then the device is free to be registered to anyone else. However, if it just erases and does not successfully complete the deregister (by not being connected to wifi at the time) then it is still registered to that account and not available for anyone else. Then the solution is to register the device to the same account again and try the erase and deregister again.

If I'm following your issue, when you first set everything up and sign into your shared B&N account, it set's the Nook as 'Mary's Nook' and you want it to be 'Mike's Nook'?
If that is all you want to do, do the following:
After unlocking and seeing the main home screen, tap on 'Mary's Nook' in the top left hand corner, tap Edit Profiles, tap Edit Mary, select the 'Change Name' in the menu, and change it to Mike.

Generally I change my passwords annually, but I'm wondering how this would affect the sync on my phone. Does this automatically "update" on your phone; i.e. do I even need to change anything on my phone to keep the sync going (along with the paid apps).
I'm probably over-worried about it, but i would like to change my PW but would hate to have to wipe my phone to do it.
Has anyone changed their Gmail password since setting up an Android phone?
If you change your Gmail account password your phone will eventually popup with a sync error message. You'll then be prompted to enter your new password at this point to sync. So, a wipe is not required.

I have exactly the same issue. Amazingly, It looks like google didn't implemented a easy feature to this scenario.
For several forums I searched in, I only could find that if I wait an unspecific number of days, eventually!, it will pop up a window to insert a password! Completely unacceptable. I'm very frustrated with this.

How about just remove and re-add gmail in "accounts & sync".

You can't remove your primary google account.
But, if you change your password, within an hour it should popup asking for your new one. It's relatively easy; I've done it a half-dozen times.
If it's rooted then I think wipe cache or davlik resets account.

If you try to log back into the Android market, it asks you for the new password, and resets this across your phone.
I'm on HTC desire.
I had the same issue with the endless Captcha. There is a solution though.
Go to www .google .com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha on a PC or a web-browser and unlock the Captcha for your account. You will then be able to login again with username and password on your device.
Hope this helps

Does anyone know of a way to change the email address to which the Nook Color is registered (Settings>Device Info>About Your Nook Color>Account) after you've rooted it? I feel really dumb, but I must have typo'd my email address upon re-registering it, leaving the "m" out of "gmail". So now my BN account isn't syncing with the device.
I know that I can go the long way around and reset back to factory presets, register and re-root, but I was hoping there might be a shortcut to editing the device Account settings. Any ideas?
So im rooting someones nook color and they updated to 1.2 and i downgraded them to 1.1 and for some reason when i try to add the B&N account in the initial setup it says something about it can't register at the moment, etc. So i can't get passed the OOBE therefore i bypassed it by skipping that. But when i went to the home screen for the NC i can't find a way to add the account. Can someone help me to get the B&N Account on this NC? Thanks!
do you get error DAD1202 on the bottom left on the error screen? if so the nook is already "partially registered". as in, their servers say it is registered but it is not associated to anyone's B&N account.
however, this is an easy fix, it requires you to call B&N and have them unregister it and then re-register it to a B&N account that has a credit card and address on file.
Hmm sounds about right, i did deregister the device before i did anything.. But the error is DAD1007, i don't know if it's any different. But i called and they told me call back an hour later as their system is down.
Anyone having issues with the Android market switching default accounts for the market to the first one in alphabetical order? I have three accounts on my N1, let's call them john, mary and pete. When I first logged in to the phone (after a clean install), I used pete to sign in on the first screen. I then added the mary and john accounts. Now, more recently, when I open the market, it defaults to john, and not pete. I know others are have the issue in other devices (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1283644)
Anyone know of a fix?
Mine has been having similar issues, but on mine, it isn't being done alphabetically. In fact, the email address is located in the middle of my accounts, and the name of the account the furthest from the beginning of the alphabet.
No clue on how to fix it

Yeah I have been having the same issues. I now have two applications tied to my secondary account and it is very annoying. :/
Seems to keep switching to the most recently added account...
Having the same issues, it also asks me to install an app I already have under my main account. This is stupid
It's a bug in the new market. My LG G2X is doing that also. Only happens when I click on updates found in the notification bar. Very annoying.
Hmm, mine stays on the first-added Google account even after later adding two more Google accounts to the phone. You guys running stock ROMs? I'm on CM7...

I'm running stock. As jboxer mentioned, it only happens when I click on the "updates available" in the notification bar.

That is impressive fanz... Not sure I want to know how you are managing that
Mine has been hit and miss. It started auto-updating apps for my secondary account (which I never had tied to the market) one day, and now I can't get those apps to update under my main account. I am about to completely remove that secondary account, because it is really annoying.

F*ing Swype.
Not sure if this solved the problem but it hasn't done it since I did this.
-Use Titanium backup and wipe Market data.
-Settinngs> Account & sync> delete the account you DON'T want market to use. (if more than one delete them all) leave only the account you want to use for Market.
-Now open Market and accept the terms
-back to Account & sync and add back the google account(s) you deleted.
-Remember now in Market NEVER to select any Google account you don't want it to use. Because once you click on another account you'll be ask to accept the terms.
If you choose yes you just authorized another market account, if you choose no market will close but next time you open market you'll get the box asking to accept t&c of the other google account

I have tried this or some variation and it kind of works, but market still notifies you to update apps from other accounts! When you click the notification you get the agreement box and you can't exit!
Hi,
Is there anyway to setup a Kindle so that when the user receives it it's in default factory state and unregistered but it does include some preloaded content?
Thanks in advance!
I think that you'd have to talk to Amazon about that.I think you can transfer files to it via USB before you register it though.

You can use the device all you want without registering it to anyone. The only thing registration changes is the ability to access the Amazon ecosystem.

You can't use some of the basic apps, such as email and calendar, without registering. I remember that it was a major pain in the rump, as I could't get a stable enough Wi-Fi connection to register my new Kindle.
So the OP can use the Kindle without registering, but it's hard to use without registering. Calendar, Contacts, and Email don't work without an account registration. Ridiculous, but that's Amazon for you.

But if the intention is to preload apps or books, they can be sideloaded through adb, assuming you have the files on hand. However, you cannot register the device to your own Amazon account, download a bunch of apps or books to the device, because (I believe) they will no longer exist once you deregister it.
