So, I got this notification today on my Xperia Z saying
Passback-1.js
Download complete
Now I got this with absolutely no update request at all from my end and I hadn't also recently installed any new app from the PlayStore
Just holding down on the notification to see the App Info says ' Download Manager 4.2.2. something
Google search shows absolutely nothing on this file and I was wondering if anyone else got this or know if it's a legit file?
C6602 running 4.2.2 Build number: 10.3.1.A.0.244
Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

hmm, its a javascript unpacker...thats all i got from google
Yeah, figured by the.js extension.
Is there any way for any one to see what's inside this JavaScript and what it does.
So weird! And my antivirus isn't picking up anything on it either!
Edit: Just wanted to add, I think the file I got has a suffix -1 because the first time it downloaded I just disregarded the download without clicking on it. Which means it persistently downloaded the file again and renamed it to passback-1.js
If I remember correctly the first file that was downloaded is the same name as attached (passback.js)

Anyone find anything online on this file as yet?

I also got this file on.my htc one, deleted it and got it also as passback-1.js.
Has anyone got information maybe also in other forums? Thanks
The same behavior. Noticed today downloaded passback.js and passback-1.js.
Samsung Galaxy S4 (stock firmware).
I didn't install any new software recently.
And no information on Internet.
Two Websites here,
One points to an ad on a forum on bf-france
And the other is some project called powerpass on google code.
I'm on CM 10.2 and never got this.
Pointing at passback-js shows the app download manager 1.3.602296. This is in the memory of the smartphone. How can I delete this app? Does anybody know? Behind passback is written pagead2.googlesyndication.com. This leads to a webpage that seems very strange and also information that had to do with virus but on computers. Does anybody know more about this?
Googlesyndication
Here is what I found:
"Google is a search engine designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. Information may consist of web pages, images and other types of files. Google achieves better results for many searches with an innovation called PageRank. This iterative algorithm ranks web pages based on the number and PageRank of other web sites and pages that link there, on the premise that good or desirable pages are linked to more than others.
GoogleSyndication.com is a very simple page. It's very easy to reach or answer our any query. You are in need of some image, news , book, article, scholar, any topic its just one click away."
I hope that helps.

Got the same file on my mac last night... around midnight, central time. I remember being on pandora when it happened. I just redownloaded it, and it seems to be from an ad of some sort. not exactly sure what it contains though. It does not seem harmful to my mac, but it might be to a mobile device.

Judging from this, i think it could be an update on google's ads service, as pagead2.googlesyndication.com is the google AdSense/AdWords Domain, wich uses JavaScripts for displaying ads.

Doesn't look like it does anything. Delete the file and all good. The fact it downloaded the file and did not execute means you are fine if it was anything bad. Prob just the website didn't code something right and passed back the wrong type like json instead of HTML etc.

the funny part is that i flashed last weekend and didn't bother to look for the app again and actually left my phone in a cab this saturday.
(note to self: dont chat/text/browse after boozing )
fortunately i had noted down the cab company's name and got back the phone safe and sound. and the app suddenly seems like a brilliant idea.
oh well.. time to flash to a different rom i guess.
yeah it is an absolutely brilliant app. that i hope to never have to use.

yeah,
mobile defense is missing for me too. Checked my region and it is set to United States. I am running CM latest. It is simply missing from the market, and after flash it needs to be reinstalled.
The apk from above won't work. It is the last version and when installed simply takes you to the market to install the latest. Problem is the same:the phone cannot find mobile defense on the market.
Anyone have the newest .apk?
EDIT:
Could it be Donut? Is mobile defense perhaps not showing up because it is incompatible with Donut? Anyone running Donut with Mobile Defense?
I'm running 4.1.999 and I couldn't find it by any method attemped above either. I sent an email to the developer via the website. I'll update this post if/when I get a reply.
I have had this exact problem since installing CyanogenMod 4.1.999. I filed a bug there a day or so ago and it was already closed, stating something about user error. The person handling the bug claimed to have been able to go to market and see Mobile Defense while on the current version of the mod. This indicates that there is another common thread linking those of us with the problem and i'd like to find out what it is.
I'm curious....can those of you who are unable to see Mobile Defense try something else for me?
Look for Pac-Man and tell me if you see the free version. I can only find the paid version of the app now that i've installed this. Here is a QR for you all who have Barcode Reader installed:

Sourced that QR code from here.
Also, can you list the following:
1. Do you see the free pac-man from the QR code above or by searching in Market?
2. What phone you have
3. What company provided the phone
4. Who is your phone carrier
and if you answer 4 with AT&T, can you also answer the following:
5. Are you on Blue, Orange, or New
Here is the link to the bug if you want to follow along

I could never find the correct mobile defense .apk. If you try to install an old one, it will force an update (that you cannot find). I, too, submitted a help request with the developers. This is their response
pinetreehater wrote:Hello,
I, too, cannot download Mobile Defense. I have always had it installed. I flashed one of Cyanogen's latest Donut builds and for some reason I cannot access it in the market. I tried clearing the cache and that did not work. I alwo ensured it was set to United States in region. It should have nothing to do with the CM build; I have had Donut for a while and Mobile Defense has worked.
Is there anywhere to download a .apk for mobile defense? I got one from XDA, but it was an older version and it simply sent me to the market to download the latest (which of course it could not find).
I feel naked without my mobile defense....please help~!
WillHello Will,
Mobile Defense works fine on Donut and CyanogenMod. Who is your wireless carrier?
Since Sprint launched an Android phone, we needed to restrict our Android Market distribution to only GSM phones until we implement CDMA support. Unfortunately, the Market only allows us to do this with T-Mobile and it hides Mobile Defense from US AT&T users. I apologize for the inconvenience and we hope to remove this temporary restriction very soon.

Anyhow, I finally found a recent copy of mobile defense. Unzip and you can simply install it like any other .apk.
Thanks a million, pinetreehater! I couldn't get the APK either, but now it's installed and working.
No problems finding either app for me...
Just a fyi post. I'm on T-mobile, using the G1, Roaming, in the US. Rooted T-mo OTA rom.
Able to find Mobile Defense no problem through search. Also able to find the free Pac-Man via above QR code.
Wipe all partitions and then try to find it on the market. Worked for me after going from King's 2.0 Hero rom to Cyan's newest rom.

Lots of people, including myself, are getting the "Not found in Market" error.
But do what the first reply said. Download it from Getjar or even from this thread which also says ANGRY BIRDS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809431
Then install using the Sideload Wonder Machine found here: http://images.androidcentral.com/sites/androidcentral.com/files/downloads/AC-SWM-v1.0.zip
Edit: Just wondering how you didn't see this before

Install app brain, thats where i found it
airplane mode and turn on wifi. this still works for me.
if you do the ota update it should show up.
I have JH7 installed from an earlier cognition version. I just now installed the full version for free from the android market. Anyone else able to do so?
If you do not have the ota update you will not be able to find it.... Do the OTA.
I check that post before i posted mine and the main issue i had is that getjar would not let me download the app (phone not supported) when i download the app to my phone i am not "allowed" to sideload apps, and i have checked the market both in airplane mode with wifi on and in regular 3g mode... still can't get it sometimes simple things can be very annoying to complete...
There was another download link in the thread if you actually read it. You then could have put it on the phone with Sideload Wonder Machine. It's not that hard if you actually read. I promise you all the resources are there and available to you.
Thank you for your help now I have successfully installed angry birds

I had the same problem with the new Angry Birds (V1.5.1). Appbrain, Android Marketplace, from phone, from PC on web, etc, none will allow me to upgrade or fresh install AB anymore (tho they did allow me to install the newest AB Seasons w/ valentine levels).
Got the APK from site listed on previous page, tried to use the "Wonderful" sideloader app also listed therein (tho it doesn't support upgrading sideloading--upsideloading?--) and finally loaded the apk directly from my phone's internal microSD (I'm rooted).
why is it some apps are blocked in teh market for my ATT Captivate? Did I screw something up, or is ATT just screwing with us?
AT&T likes to think they know better then us and censor our market app. Custom ROMs ftw with uncensored markets.

Hey guys does anyone know if the new Honeycomb Weatherbug app is available? While I don't actually have my Xoom yet, I was playing with one in my local VZ store and found that it wasn't installed in the floor model, nor could I find it on the Market (found the regular WB and WB Elite, but nothing that seemed to indicate the new one). EDIT - Nevermind, just found it via the online Android Market - its the Honeycomb Beta. Mods can delete this if they wish!

Were you able to download and install, or is your pic from a preview of the app? I have tried, as recently as 5 minutes ago, to download and it fails. If I try the online Market, it tells me my Xoom is not compatible. I can find it now on the Xoom, but the Market does not let me download. Do you have any tips/tricks? I really need something better than AccuWeather.
for whatever reason, the weatherbug beta for honeycomb says my xoom is not elgible >_< WTF! i thought i had honeycomb now google is telling me no. >_<
Same here. I can find it in the online Market but it says my device is not compatible.
The version in the market is the old small screen version.
Can someone please post the apk if its in beta or whatever?
I don't understand why it shows up in the market if it can't be downloaded, this beta is for hc, this is the only device that natively runs it at this time. It must have been an error on weatherbug's part. I'm suprised it hasn't been taken down yet.

Would like to add that I'm having the same installation issues as everyone else. Given the fact that the app is on the market though, I'd say it shouldn't be too long until we see it go live. Also, does anyone know why devs aren't combining their Honeycomb-optimized apps into the same binaried as their standard apps?

3. Use Root Explorer or ADB to put the file in: /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib

I did this mod and I can get the audio, but all I get is a green screen that says this video is not optimized for mobile. Am I doing something wrong?

Type "about:debug" into the browser url bar. If you're using Dolphin, there is a add-on that makes it easier.
Can it be use outside U.S ?
still a n00b

Does this only work on the nexus phones or will other HTC phones do this as well?
Followed all the instructions and I no longer get the
"Hulu does not work with your platform Sorry for the inconvenience"
message, nor does the
"We see you're on an Android phone / Continue to browse"
pop-up appear when I go straight to the hulu page, however, I still have not successfully gotten any videos to play, either in the browser or in the app. It just sits there and hangs... I've let it go a couple minutes before backing out of it, so if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong, any help would be much appreciated.
And... looks like it won't let me post screen shots of it since I haven't hit 8 posts yet...
Thanks in advance to anyone who responds to this...

still working here
So going through my phone I saw a new application there on the last page called "Write on PDF" I never installed this app but it's there. I checked the google play store and there it is listed as an app that I have added.
Looking further into the app and the reviews I see that I am not alone, there are many people who have commented that they to suddenly found this app installed without their permission, they all seem to have the Note 5.
Am I the only one that feels violated by this and that Samsung have overstepped the mark? Sure the app is harmless this time, but if they can install this app at will without my knowledge then what else can or have they installed without my permission??

It has always been there. It does exactly what the name implies. Feel better?

If you go and listen to pocketnow's review, it seems the app has always been there on American devices, and visible. On our international units it seems to have been disabled by default, but was enabled in the past week or so, which even I noticed.

Haha OP feels offended? I'm pretty sure when you buy the device you also agree on certain things that you probably have no idea your agreeing on... with that said get over it

hi ,
i agree with above posters comments, that its been there all the time .
i notice the app appeared in the "open with " options, to choose from and later date , yes ,as a standalone app .
good luck
If it was always there then why does it appear last in my app tray? Something that happens when a new app is installed!
Also why in the playstore under my apps is it top of the list... Judging from the list it looks like it is ordered chronologically in installed order.
And all the other people in the reviews who also suddenly found it installed??

I noticed it too but, as others have said, you probably agreed to this in the ToS.

hi ,
for me it makes sense. In short.....
in my above post, i indicated that it was part of Samsung o/s on my device .
I know this, as i saw it listed in the "open with " options .
I wanted to view a PDF document and wanted to open the PDF as i tapped on document the" open with option" appeared with the option with a"Write on PDF"
Also you will noticed that you cannot uninstall this app (thus part of o/s )
You can only uninstall updates or disable app .
I later checked in the app drawer and could not find it accepting it "incorporate/ was part of o/s)
i recently saw the update to it and saw that it was a standalone app now (but still part of system .)
and as such , listed, as a "new" stand alone app now in app drawer ?
( maybe reason why it appears in Playstore top etc etc .... )
bottom line..........
I am not trying to convince you ,
just relating to what i "saw/experienced " with regards to app .
good luck
It was always pre installed...but was not visible in the app drawer. ..so people were wondering where is the supposed pdf write app. ..because once you opened a pdf with another app..it always became the default app and write pdf was no where to be seen. ..
So last week with a new update to the app. .it is now visible as a stand alone app
