So going through my phone I saw a new application there on the last page called "Write on PDF" I never installed this app but it's there. I checked the google play store and there it is listed as an app that I have added.
Looking further into the app and the reviews I see that I am not alone, there are many people who have commented that they to suddenly found this app installed without their permission, they all seem to have the Note 5.
Am I the only one that feels violated by this and that Samsung have overstepped the mark? Sure the app is harmless this time, but if they can install this app at will without my knowledge then what else can or have they installed without my permission??

If you go and listen to pocketnow's review, it seems the app has always been there on American devices, and visible. On our international units it seems to have been disabled by default, but was enabled in the past week or so, which even I noticed.

hi ,
i agree with above posters comments, that its been there all the time .
i notice the app appeared in the "open with " options, to choose from and later date , yes ,as a standalone app .
good luck
If it was always there then why does it appear last in my app tray? Something that happens when a new app is installed!
Also why in the playstore under my apps is it top of the list... Judging from the list it looks like it is ordered chronologically in installed order.
And all the other people in the reviews who also suddenly found it installed??

I noticed it too but, as others have said, you probably agreed to this in the ToS.

hi ,
for me it makes sense. In short.....
in my above post, i indicated that it was part of Samsung o/s on my device .
I know this, as i saw it listed in the "open with " options .
I wanted to view a PDF document and wanted to open the PDF as i tapped on document the" open with option" appeared with the option with a"Write on PDF"
Also you will noticed that you cannot uninstall this app (thus part of o/s )
You can only uninstall updates or disable app .
I later checked in the app drawer and could not find it accepting it "incorporate/ was part of o/s)
i recently saw the update to it and saw that it was a standalone app now (but still part of system .)
and as such , listed, as a "new" stand alone app now in app drawer ?
( maybe reason why it appears in Playstore top etc etc .... )
bottom line..........
I am not trying to convince you ,
just relating to what i "saw/experienced " with regards to app .
good luck
It was always pre installed...but was not visible in the app drawer. ..so people were wondering where is the supposed pdf write app. ..because once you opened a pdf with another app..it always became the default app and write pdf was no where to be seen. ..
So last week with a new update to the app. .it is now visible as a stand alone app
ścribbled from my Note 5

This is extremely upsetting, I have attached WifiScan that was said to be free forever
He is charging 2.99 in the market, it may be worth it but I wont support a developer that doesnt keep there word
That's life. $ always wins.
Dunno how old you are, but you remember a certain President saying "No new (or raising existing) taxes". What happened later?. Yeah, raised taxes! yay Just because someone says something doesn't mean they will keep their word.
@OP:
If you have the App already downloaded [i.e. have the .apk file on the phone] you have nothing to worry about.
Which makes me wonder... If you can send someone an .apk file (for instance, an application that is now "paid"), you could give it to them for free, no?
That'd be pretty interesting, considering many of the apps I have are now paid or removed and transfered to paid only.
free -> pay transition
I had all my apps backed up(via astro) on a black g1 I bought on day 1.
I wanted white but but on the first day all they had was black and a few bronze, the wifey wanted 1 in black so I got a white one then swapped my sd card to the white one and downloaded astro to the new phone (after rc33->29 downgrade->JF RC33 upgrade) and installed them all 1 by 1[OT](hey astro dev cant we get a check all on the restore like on the backup)[/OT]
I went to check out the new stuff at the market and all I could see is PRICES, all the good apps got a slight name change and a price tag, how is it protected, my wife would never use most of the geek apps I had on it(i wiped it for her) so would those apps be locked to her imei and I would have to rebuy all the aps I'd want for my white one?
just a tip, to whomever controls this "IF you screw this part up, piracy will be rampant, it has to be fair to the end user and the devs"

Just a question about your screen, sorry to go off topic but what is that icon at the top with the little android guy & the red number?
I beleive that if an app was free, but now dev is charging for it, we should be allowed to share app since it was not cracked if you have original apk. My opinion.

I think we should be allowed to share the version before it went premium considering that version was released for free and thus there's no basis for claiming losses with the DMCA regardless of a lack of proper DRM protection.
Honestly stuff like this is making me backup a lot of my apps. I have no problem paying for an app that is worth the money, but when there is little or no changes from the original free version it feels like I'm being back stabbed for my support when I see a $4.99+ price tag on some apps. Its also not helping the situation where Google banned dev phones and anyone not on the T-Mobile network from purchasing premium apps. Between Google and this, some people are just setting themselves up to be targeted by pirates.

A little adb pull/install will allow you to get the "protected" apks and reinstall them when/where ever you want.

Sharing the free apk isn't a problem. The one posted is not the paid apk file -- so this should be fine. The problem is, the free one will most likely not be updated if he introduces new features.
As of now they are the same, other than the "will always be free" has been removed.

I agree. It's totally (term applicable to aad4321 and used in a negative context) that the dev did that. I've noticed quite a few apps that I have in My Downloads that have "updates" that aren't any different except for the name.
Has anyone ever seen an app called "10029" use data on their SGN before? I went to check my data usage the other day and found this unknown app (see screenshots 1 and 2). I tried googling it but found no other mention of it. It shows foreground and background data so supposedly I have actively used it but I obviously don't recall any such app. I've restricted the background data since I found it. Could it be malware? If so, how can I go about removing it?

On a slightly related note, I noticed "Android OS" (see screenshot 3) has been using a large amount of background data over the past few months (it got up to ~700 mb last month!). I've disabled Google back-up/restore settings as some other suggested, which is when the usage amount started to taper off, but it's still using several mb each day and I can't pinpoint what operations is using it since there's no options to show what process under "Android OS" are actively using data. Any suggestions how to identify the cause?

Yes.Also on stock rom (see signature). I've disabled install from unknown sources too.
Then wipe (factory reset) and flash the rom of your likings again..
Perhaps it sounds a bit drastic, but i woulnd want an app with an unknown name running on my device.
Id start all over, just because it smells fishy.

You should try to freeze it with Titanium Backup and check if the phone works well, then install Root Explorer, go to /system/app and look for an app called 10029 then simply remove it (delete).

Thanks but it obviously doesn't show up on TB or in /app under 10029, I would clearly remember installing something like that and would've looked for it first before posting here.
Get afwall and block the app from using Internet.
Or else wipe and restore your apps individually

Google search shows absolutely nothing on this file and I was wondering if anyone else got this or know if it's a legit file?

Yeah, figured by the.js extension.
Is there any way for any one to see what's inside this JavaScript and what it does.
So weird! And my antivirus isn't picking up anything on it either!
Edit: Just wanted to add, I think the file I got has a suffix -1 because the first time it downloaded I just disregarded the download without clicking on it. Which means it persistently downloaded the file again and renamed it to passback-1.js
If I remember correctly the first file that was downloaded is the same name as attached (passback.js)

Samsung Galaxy S4 (stock firmware).
I didn't install any new software recently.
And no information on Internet.
Two Websites here,

And the other is some project called powerpass on google code.
I'm on CM 10.2 and never got this.
Pointing at passback-js shows the app download manager 1.3.602296. This is in the memory of the smartphone. How can I delete this app? Does anybody know? Behind passback is written pagead2.googlesyndication.com. This leads to a webpage that seems very strange and also information that had to do with virus but on computers. Does anybody know more about this?
Googlesyndication
Here is what I found:
"Google is a search engine designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. Information may consist of web pages, images and other types of files. Google achieves better results for many searches with an innovation called PageRank. This iterative algorithm ranks web pages based on the number and PageRank of other web sites and pages that link there, on the premise that good or desirable pages are linked to more than others.
GoogleSyndication.com is a very simple page. It's very easy to reach or answer our any query. You are in need of some image, news , book, article, scholar, any topic its just one click away."
I hope that helps.

Judging from this, i think it could be an update on google's ads service, as pagead2.googlesyndication.com is the google AdSense/AdWords Domain, wich uses JavaScripts for displaying ads.

Doesn't look like it does anything. Delete the file and all good. The fact it downloaded the file and did not execute means you are fine if it was anything bad. Prob just the website didn't code something right and passed back the wrong type like json instead of HTML etc.

I doubt both of those guesses. It popped up for update on my LG G2. The developer was listed as "Test Account234234". It would be exceptionally unprofessional for any carrier to push an update this way. Yesterday, 4/29 the app was asking for an update. I didn't install it. Today, 4/30 it is not longer on my list.
Here's my wild guess with malicious intent: Someone wrote a program that allows itself to "update" a sprint factory default screen test app. They setup a "test account" with the google play store to see if an app could be pushed to certain model phones and replace the factory app with this version. This particular app was innocuous, but the exploit could be used for more malicious apps since most users blindly update apps.
My wild guess with innocent intentions: Someone at Sprint or a sprint contract developer goofed and sent a test app for update through the play store with the wrong account.

The samsung one exploits a feature in Knox. LG doesn't have something like Knox so I doubt it. Probably disables apps you can disable anyways.
I tried that app on the g5 and it didn't work so I doubt it will work on the G6
it works on my V20 and no,i couldnt disable all of services anyway !?!?!
I have this app on my G6. I got it because I the Samsung version worked well on my stock S6. You have to install a "LG Service" plug in app to make this app work. Similar plug-in required for Samsung Nougat devices. It wasn't required for MM and earlier Android versions. I was able to disable the T-Mobile app on my G6 with this. You can't disable the T-Mobile app through the setting>app menu.

You've got to install the lg package then open it, select admin ...I can't fully remember right now and it's the wife's phone so it's not with me but open the lg package app and it should be obvious. I had the same issue till I took a look.

Oh ok. Didn't notice that. It seems to have worked. For some reason though, Android system webview is pre disabled and it won't let me enable it... Weird...
Anyway, got any recommendations or an xml to suggest?

I haven't tried this yet. But was reading through and to answer your question, Web View doesn't technically exist in Nougat. Its a placeholder because it's more integrated. There's also a toggle for webview settings in Developer Options.

I'm really amazed that this app works! Such a great app!

This app has saved my device battery life! I used 4o see 6hrs of nonstop SOT, but that eventually diminished to 2-3hrs. I'm getting back the potential of my h872!

Do you have a list of apps you disabled? Or just all "disable all bloatware"

Sweet. I read in the other thread you were going to make a video.
Edit - I saw you turned off a few things like answerme, and messaging, and also added telephony...do you have a list of apps you installed to compensate what you disabled?

Yes, i said I'd make a video but never got to it so I did it really fast this morning.
I didn't add telephony.
I disable LG Calendar, LG Keyboard & LG Clock. I use Google Calendar, clock, & GBoard to compensate.
AnswerMe i believe is gesture answering and crap like flip to ignore/silence calls. Don't need it.
In my opinion, pretty much all the, "smart" crap LG gives their devices is worthless.
I keep the home installed (with app drawer) but I don't use it. I use the Oreo Pixel Launcher or Nova Prime.
Some of the apps I'd disabled in that video you can actually uninstall, such as T-MOBILE TV, T-MOBILE ID, ETC.
I also disable Duo because I use hangouts.
Honestly.. i here's photo of my daily driver....

Uploaded cuz there's a lot. Sorry for doubles! Skipped some pages because there was nothing disabled.

To get this to work you have to set lg service as admin and then run the lg service app.. It will close immediately, but that will activate it. Now you can open up the disabler app and disable packages.

I bought it and installed it, didn't work for me. I did find that I was able to uninstall and disable all the apps that I wanted to. This may be different for you because I have a T-Mobile LG G6
