So I was waiting to get the Samsung Galaxy S 2, but since I had this upgrade and 2 in October, I decided to go ahead and try out the Thrill. I am coming from a Captivate and wanted the following changes: a WORKING gps, a flash for the camera, dual core, and a front facing camera.
The Good:
1) Speed. This thing is pretty snappy.
2) Feel. I like the solid feel of this phone. Size is fine. I like the weight of the phone too.
3) Screen. I like the 4.3 over the 4" screen. I dont mind that it is not a Super AMOLD +. Screen still looks good.
4) GPS works. Yay! Sooo much nicer than the Captivate. Well works great in the car, but not so great in the house. But it is still much better than my Captivate. I can actually do driving directions with an error of 5 feet. Not bad.
5) 3D is pretty cool, but it is not something I care about too much.
6) Square front face. I like this because you can use generic rectangular screen protectors on this and it works fine.
The Bad:
1) Battery. Not soo great. Worse than the Captivate. Need to make sure I am near a charger or get a bigger battery.
2) Speaker. This speaker volume is very low. Calls, music, ring tones are much much lower than the Captivate.
3) Slow camera capture... Its pretty slow. Not unusable, but annoying.
4) The charging port. I am not a fan of the cover for the USB port. Trying to plug in the cord in the dark is near impossible.
The Issues:
1) Random Reboots. I have experienced this twice so far. The phone randomly reboots itself. It has not happened when I have used it. Its when it is idle it just reboots.
2) Distorted speakers. When I have the phone on speaker and up at peak volume, that is very noticeable distortion coming through the.
3) Random issues with Bluetooth and Sync in my Ford truck. The phone will occasionally tell me that blue tooth encountered an error and wont connect.
Do any of you guys suffer from the random reboots, low volume, distorted speaker on high, or issues with bluetooth?
Another thing I am worried about is developer support. Do you think this will pick up some time? Im tempted to exchange for a SG2 because I know the community support will be huge.

Try waterbeer firmware.
The only issue I've experienced is the poor speakerphone volume, but I think that's more of a problem with the location of the speaker, not the volume.
It makes for bad video calls unless you're in a completely quiet room.

Prior to upgrading (about 2 days) to the Thriller rom I had one reboot (that I noticed). Haven't noticed any since (about 2 days).
Speaker phone volume is pretty low. Haven't noticed any crackling though.
And I don't notice so much slow picture taking as I do how it is for the camera to open and load. I actually keep my camera on the continuous setting which takes a series of eapid pics since most of my pictures are of my 1 year old who can't sit still

Thanks for the reply. Im learning to live with the few let downs. It has not rebooted. I *hear* there is a software fix coming soon from LG for battery drain so that is good. I wish I could find a way to boost the volume though.
I've had my Thrill for about 3 weeks and have had random reboots a total of 3 times. I wasn't too happy about it but it happens. The first time was when I launched the camera, I don't remember the second but the third was when I was watching a 3D movie in my gallery and clicked "home" it crashed instead. So in my case every random reboot has been related to the Camera/Gallery and since the camera is slow as ever so I'm not super surprised. The worst part is my battery loses about 20% or more when it comes back on like rebooting just sucked a quarter of my battery away. Either way I still love this phone.
I haven't noticed any distortion but I don't ever put volume of any of my devices at full. I feel they aren't intended for that and have blown speakers that way before so I'm always careful.
I love the screen but it could be prettier
The charge port is impossible to plug in, in the dark.
Looks like att would have tested this phone more than had

My random reboots are when I am not doing anything personally with the phone. I notice it because the phone is on the desk next to me and then I notice movement (on the screen) and the phone then reboots.
Well speaking of the devil. My phone was just sitting on my desk and I noticed the boot splash screen, the sucker just randomly rebooted on my for no reason.
I have had at least 2 random reboots within the last 2 days. In both cases I tried wiping the phone but I expect it to happen again.

Seems to be a trend.... hopefully LG can find and fix that issue.
Reboot
I have has the Thrill for about 1 week now. I have had the device reboot on me once. I loaded Thriller on there and this has not been a reoccurring issue since. All-in-all I love the device, the hardware is awesome and it runs great!!! It was a very good choice of device after 4 years of iPhone.

Thriller? The video?
I came from an iPhone as well and am very happy. (except for the battery of course)
I have had my Thrill for about 3 weeks now and the only issues are:
- Periodic Bluetooth connectivity loss (LG HBS-700 headset)
- Poor battery life
- Slow camera (but takes better than decent pics for a 5 MP camera)
- Display likes to black out during calls making it difficult to do other things during a call
Other than these I have experienced no other issues and have been extremely happy with this phone. After returning 3 Atrix and 2 Infuse devices, I could not be any happier.

That's a feature not a issue.
If you want to do other stuff during a call, just don't move your finger over the sensor on the top right of the phone.
Ive had my LG Thrill 4G since launch day and so far I have
- random reboot
- very very slow camera
- music player skips
- sh!ty battery life.
I was hoping this phone would be a replacement for my iPhone 4 but I comes up short.
3) Random issues with Bluetooth and Sync in my Ford truck. The phone will occasionally tell me that blue tooth encountered an error and wont connect.
^^^
same issue here when i had my first one, so i returned it for a replacement and got my second one, and still the same issue,
so i hope there will be a fix for it soon !!!
i drive BMW 328XI
ive used many other phones and it works with no issues, but sadly not the LG Thrill
Hrm....granted i didnt use my phone mutch at all....1 day 3hrs and I am still at 67%
i have good and bad battery days....just depends on usage

Battery started out pretty bad. But its getting better as the days go by. Im trying to ne realistic though considering the specs of the phone and the battery capacity I'm no expecting it to last as long as the smaller, slower phone I upgrades from. I've also accepted that no android phone will probably ever have the battery life of a fruit phone so theres no sense in making a comparison there.

Thriller is a ROM for this device, try it out you'll like it. look in the Android Development section for installation how to.
Is it the camera module or some kind of motherboard?
I'm confused it works well from the freezer and I want to replace the faulty part but don't know what the faulty part is.
Opened it up earlier today only damaged the case slightly and it took 10 mins.

The problem is with the Camera Module. HTC confirmed this as a manufacturing defect, they would have fixed it for free.
Anyway to the best of my knowledge the problem was inadequate heat shielding for the Camera Module. Over time heat from the phones internal components (Processor, Battery etc) damages the lens inside the Camera Module producing the purple hue you see in your images. The warmer the device the worse it looks hence the reason it works ok after being in the freezer.
I sent my to HTC for repair I don't know exactly what they did but it came back good as new and so far the problem has not returned. Maybe they replaced it with an upgraded camera module or the same module but improved the heat shielding. Or maybe they just put the same module back in and the problem will return although I've never heard of it coming back after a HTC repair, only time will tell I suppose.
if you removed the back you can lift the camera and insert a thermal insulator , without having
to take apart everything ; you can put a thin plastic .
i could put a small circular magnet behind the camera myself when i was trying to fix the focus problem ,
there is some room.
Also put your phone in power saver it could help for the high temps.
Thanks for the replys, I did try lifting the camera even inserted something to the back of it and left it hanging out it still had the problem so I guess it just needs replacing May aswell replace the battery while I'm at it!
Thanks again
Quick update, I jjust replaced the camera module and it still has the pink tint now I'm lost anyone have any idea what's going on?
Does anyone know what is going on? perfect camera during the day but still pink/purple at night or dark I thought this would have been fixed after changing the module but obviously not is there anything else i can try?
And for those who have taken apart the camera module whats with the little sensor type thing on the camera modules ribbon? is that where the problem lies? a little square box lies beneath the copper heatshield it looks just like a megapixel sensor but is completely covered up.
I've bought an Xperia Z3+ two months ago, recently, I've discovered a certain bright spot on its screen, it's particularly available in white and bright backgrounds, it's less noticeable in black backgrounds, and not at all noticeable in non-solid backgrounds.
I know that it's a hardware issue, but the warranty here is a joke, and I don't want to pay for a new screen for such a small issue.
But on the other hand, once I noticed it, it's all I could see in the mobile, and it removes the whole premium feel in it.
I've manually removed the back cover and there's no issue in the battery that would make it press towards the screen and cause such issue.
I was wondering if there's any manual fix for it? I know that it's a light diffusing layer problem, mostly caused by a certain pressure, but is there a way to make it normal again? A certain pressure in an opposite way, or heat, or suction from behind, etc.
Here's a picture that indicates the issue "It's more visible and annoying in real life"
I have the exact same problem at the very same position as you point. My country does not support officially the Z3+ and so the cost is really high. I searched enough on the internet and i think it is where the vibration is but i cannot confirm it. I also see it all the time because i simply know it is right there. At my case, there are other 2 spots but not seen so easy.
I only hope not to get bigger. I wish i knew what caused this so to be carefull (such as sun exposure or something else - although i am REALLY careful as a person with my mobile phones). I cannot help you and i got really dissapointed after my long search on the web so i will have to live with that. It is hardware problem as i really tried everything to find out that.
Hope someone has any solution. It is not only on our phone but to others too. I hope the post won't get lost after some days!

That's so weird, I thought it was caused by an anonymous fall that I wasn't aware of, the other point is barely noticeable but it's at the top left.
Also, my upper speakers started to produce mixed loud and faint sounds when i play something whike the volume is below 25%.
It's winter, and I usually text near heatrrs, which made me think that the speakers problem was caused by the heater and the screen problem was caused by a particular fall.
Since the warranty is useless I've manually disassembled the phone and there's nothing behind that spot of screen except battery, the vibrator is way below the navkeys, there's no screen on the other side of it, which actually seems to prove that our spots are similar by coincidence, because there's no pressure on the other side except for battery, and I highly doubt yours is faulty, because mine isn't.
My z3+ single sim also has the spot at the same place, but it isnt that noticable since i use auto brightness, really weird, i thought because maybe of accidental high press when the phone was in my pocket.Anyway, I'll switch to XZ premium in december, that sh*t is dope
On the top left corner i have too! So it is not a coincidence. Something is there that you couldn't see when you opened it. I only hope it doens't get worse..
I have it too not only there also in the right bottom corner and a line of 1 centimeters like 1 inch bow in the left upper corner one day was not in there and to the other plaff they appear
Sent from my E6533 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Now that multiple people have it, I started to suspect that there's actually something.
I might open if again when I can't live with it anymore, but for now I'll try to enjoy it as it's new, and hopefully won't get worse.
I have a z3 and z4 that also have these white spots..no way to fix. look up tv lcd problems your not gonna be able to fix....it gonna keep me from buying anymore sonys till they switch to oled.
I have the same problem in the same position and it was happen after a warranty repair.... Sony didn't have noticed it....
So my main issue right now is no sound whatsoever unless I use a wired headset (earbuds etc).
No sound through speaker. Any changes made in options to troubleshoot have failed.
Also, I have no camera app at all. It's like it never existed for this phone.
I'd be okay with it, simply because I finally got the phone up and running again after a battery and mid-frame assembly replacement, but I need sound and camera. Especially the camera due to my banking app.
My Setup
twrp-3.2.1-0-shamu
RR-N-Neo-v5.8.5-20180119-shamu-Unofficial - Android N 7.1.2
open_gapps-arm-7.1-mini-20180122
Magisk 15.3 (from official XDA thread)
*optionally - Viper4android 2.5.0.5
So the two main problems are no sound at all unless I have headphones in.
No camera app or anything
I will add, I can access the non-existent camera through the gallery app included in that RR Neo build, but it FC's immediately and continually.
I've done every wipe imaginable minus a factory image flash of the last Nougat build for our phones.
Complete wipes including: in TWRP the "yes" option on Format Data.
Factory Reset followed by Dalvik, Cache, System, and Data wipes.
Essentially everything I've been doing without issue for the few years I've owned this phone.
If anymore info is needed I'm willing to provide it, sincerely hope someone can help me diagnose or possibly fix this phone.
Seriously, thanks for any help provided.
Just help me get away from this iPhone 5 loaner

Yep, was working perfectly before replacement and for about a day or so after.
Only issue I had sound-wise was with static-y audio when headphones or aux cable was plugged in for my car's head unit.
Not sure what happened. I did notice on the mid-frame assembly I bought, there was no earphone speaker, it's the module next to the camera. So today I added it to the new mid-frame and no dice...also to be sure I used my old headphone jack on the old frame, and no change.
Could it be the battery isn't strong enough?
EDIT:

No, wouldn't be the battery.
Ok so, that speaker you added to the mid frame by the camera on top, has two pins. Those two pins need to be facing towards the camera (they touch two metal contacts). If those pins aren't touching those contacts, it won't work. Likewise, the speaker on the bottom that is attached to the motherboard, has two tiny pins (one on each side) that make contact to two metal plates on the mid frame. Check and make sure these things are making contact.

So I just checked the contacts, and that speaker is seated properly.
No sound.
It's killing me right now. This battery is doing fantastic, but I can't use the phone.
Still no camera either. Just doesn't show up in app drawer, on launcher or anywhere but gallery.
Starting to think the phone might be a goner. Which would be a shame...

That's a shame man. Sounds like something was either damaged during the replacement or some ribbon cables may not have been seated all the way, idk. If it were me, I'd do a complete tear down and put it all back together and hope for the best.

UPDATE:
@Neo
I took your suggestion, tore everything apart, at least on the frame, turns out the frame wasn't making good contact with the LCD panel. Once that was established, I put everything together again and thankfully had one of the last factory images released from Google, re-flashed stock with the toolkit, and once it booted up, camera worked and so did the sound! But only out of one speaker.
Checked the frame again, turns out the new one had that clear plastic blue, sticky tape looking stuff, moved that and bottom speaker worked too.
TL;DR
Problem solved, turns out I wasn't thorough enough with making sure all ribbons and modules were making contact with the frame and LCD panel. Oh and flashing a factory image fixed all software related problems (no camera app showing up or working etc).
Happy camper for now!

That was the only thing I could think of
Improper contact with the pins. If you had done all this and it still didn't work, I'd have been at a loss lol. Glad you're up and running.

Neo the great to the rescue!! [emoji108]
First of all, I love this phone. The main selling point for me was the massive battery and from there it's just getting better counting in the other features, but as always, nothing is perfect and I'm not that experienced with Android in general so figured I'd ask away here. As a disclaimer, for all the things below, I'm not interested in rooting the phone, feel free to write if rooting is the only option though and if doing so, what I am asking for would work.
Is there any way to turn off the volume warning? Like if you're going above 70%. Seems it's a lot less aggressive than on my old S9 though.
Is there any way to add a few more steps to the volume? It appears 15 is the highest volume at the moment. And the highest volume is a bit low for my taste, when listening to music. I'm using BOSE QC20's and while they sound great, I could use a few more steps. I used some App on my S9 but it didn't really sound that well. For comparison, on the PC you can put VLC on 200% AND turn up the volume on the headset as well, if you want.
What kind of screen protection would you advice? Or shouldn't I bother with that?
How water resistant is the phone? All I know is that there is no classification yet. Even it isn't, how would you rate it? Go Swimming? Drop it in a pool of water? Walk with it in the rain? Or panic if one droplet gets anywhere close to the speakers?
Can I dual charge the phone? As in, if the Fan is connected, can I put one charger in the bottom Type-C port and one into the fan?
What happens if I put the charger in the Red sideport? Not that I would, just curious as I saw a warning saying not to.
Similar to the dual charge, would a PC gaming headset work on the phone that uses 2 3.5mm pins? The sound pin would go into the fan and the mic pin would go into the bottom slot of the phone, or vice versa?
I've been trying to change the Notification sound and ringtone for Whatsapp using the same sounds I had for my S9. I've added both (Orange & Whisper) but they just don't want to work. I made them in .mp4 (aac), .mp3 & .oog formats. When I select them in the list, they are played as they should but when I get a message and/or recieve a call, the latest (standard) signal is instead used.
Update: I managed to get the notification sound to work now (Whisper). By going into the Phone Settings -> Notifications -> WhatsApp. Seems that option in there would override the App Settings. However, when I get a call now, BOTH the original ringtone and the S9 (Orange) one is played ontop of each other.
While we are on WhatsApp, how can I remove the big notifications. Like, there's 2 types. The one at the top of the screen (I want this) and then it's the big popup in the middle of the screen (that has a reply field and some more options (I don't want this). I remember it was a hassle to get rid of on my S9 so thought I'd ask.
Bug or feature? When I'm inside a program and exit back to the Home screen, I've noticed the "locked" bottom row starts jumping, as if they want to swipe up. I'm using the Two-Layer mode. Not sure if it's a bug or a feature "showing" me there's stuff down there.
Last but not least, can I move the clock on the lockscreen? It's currently in the top left corner, I'd prefer to have it centered.
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance!
I've replied in line to the questions I can answer.

Not very, there doesn't appear to be any waterproofing, check the sim card tray for example, no rubber seal.
Can I dual charge the phone? As in, if the Fan is connected, can I put one charger in the bottom Type-C port and one into the fan?
You could but the phone isn't going to charge twice as fast, I think it'll likely only charge from one port but shouldn't do any damage.
What happens if I put the charger in the Red sideport? Not that I would, just curious as I saw a warning saying not to.
People say it dies but I haven't tried it, it's not the same as a C port so you'd have to force it.

No, there's no mic in option afaik.

Probably a feature as I think I've seen that on some pixel launchers but I don't use the stock one personally.
1) There isn't;
2) You can only set Outdoor Mode on, but the volume will go up, no volume steps wil be added;
3) I think you should go for one with good comments, since you have the fingerscan under the display and a screen protection may void It;
4) the phone is not certified for water/dust resistance. So, just avoid contact with water. Tho, I don't think some raindrop will ruin it;
5) You cannot dual charge the phone;
6) The Red sideport is a Trademark Port made by Asus exclusively for their optional accessories. So, just leave It alone if you don't wanna be sorry;
7) No such phone will ever have the drivers made for Windows/MacOs which makes the headset to work on a personal computer;
8) You can have this setted on the Sound Settings;
9) You can have this setted on the Notification Settings;
10) that's a feature;
11) you must use third part apps for that.
Thank you so much, both of you.
The volume warning is a lot less of a pain than I initially thought. The one on the S9 is rather agressive so had some bad experiences. Can't say I notice any diff with Outdoor mode but I'll try more later, suppose it's fine.
Good point about the screen protection, I'll definately keep the fingerprint sensor in mind.
The waterproofing, or non-waterproofing rather is one of the Con's of the phone I suppose. Not that it's an issue but I'd rather not care at all as I could with my old phone. Thanks for clarifying though. My dad lost his old iPhone 6 to having his phone in the rain so I kinda know the limit then (as that also lacked any kind of cert).
No dual charging, makes sense. One takes prio.
Yeah, I'll not mess with the red port. @willhemmens, dies as in "throw the phone and buy a new one" or "phone shuts off but just restart and it's fine". (Like, battery is dead/dies). Just curious here really.
I see, that's too bad. Suppose I'd have to get one of those 2 becomes 1 3.5mm cable adapters.
@NajimKiSaad, that's just for the phone ringtone/sms though? This is for Whatsapp exclusively. It's as if a WhatsApp call triggers as a normal call as well as it's own settings, kinda.
Hm, where? Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> WhatsApp -> Notifications, it's set to - Behavior: Make Sound. Same in the App itself, Popup is not enabled anywhere.

Well, that's good to know. How do I disable it? I just find it annyoing.
And for the clock widget on the Lockscreen, any recommendations? I like the style of the default one, just the position is kinda off.
Once again, thanks for all the answers!
Not related to your questions but have you felt that this phone just cuts off the internet connection to Whatsapp? I don't get notifications after a while and the Whatsapp Web says that my phone is not connected to internet even though there is internet. Whatsapp only starts working when I open this app. Then, I get all the messages. I have allowed unrestricted internet access to this app and turned off battery optimization for this app. Any ideas?
That's interesting, I haven't had it as you describe it no but since I got the phone, I've noticed the "last online" doesn't always show on my friend I have on WA. Could be that she has turned it off but it works sometimes.
Looking at the top bar on the phone, I added internet speed and it says 0 B/s quite often so my guess is that it only uses internet on demand, maybe it has something to do with that?

Think I might have seen a post about it too, could be wrong though.
