Good Morning Guys
After a lot of struggle I decided to post me and my friends problem here, I know on XDA Developers there are a lot of clever guys who might help us to solve this problem. Please note that I have a Galaxy S3 which is rooted and loaded with Custom ROM WanamLite Rom, so I am familiar with the process on how to do this and we have tried all options to fix the OS on this Galaxy S4 i9505 of my friend. Here are the details:
We are from South Africa and when overseas my friend bought a Galaxy S4 i9505 in Bangkok, he had the option between the clone and an Original, so he bought the ORIGINAL rather than the clone. Now once he got back to SA he started using the phone which wasn't network locked but we noticed that the OS version was a bit funny and that the phone was already rooted out of the BOX (Strange) so we thought he bought a clone and followed all the links on the the net showing how to determine weather its a clone or not. So we came to the solution that his phone is NOT a clone but it has a weird OS on it that we cant change/load another OS on. Here is what we tried:
1) We wanted to load a new OS or Custom ROM since the phone was already rooted, so we first tried to download the stock firmware from SAMMOBILE for South Africa and copied it to the Ext SDcard and rebooted the phone in Recovery mode. There we didn't have any option to install OS/ZIP from Ext SDcard ..... Not even under advanced. There is NO Mounts & Storage nothing, it just doesn't display any External Storage options. So this made us go to step 2
2) We thought okay lets try at least and load another custom ROM since its already rooted and see if we can fix the problem the other way around. So we installed Odin on PC and connected phone in download mode to install CWM recovery, ODIN pics up the device as "Unknown" and the port in ODIN doesn't become green. We have installed/uninstalled various S4 USB Drivers and when the phone is connected to Windows 7 PC is shows Unknown Device ...... You can access the phone Sdcard & ExtSDcard through Windows although its shows Unknown Device, but when rebooting in recovery mode it doesnt see the Ext SDcard - WTF?
This is where we gave up and decided to see if any of you guys can help or have any ideas to fix this and get a proper OS working on it ...... Cause I suspect that whatever OS is on the phone wont even receive OS updates and we want to be able to update the OS/Custom ROM for new OS versions like Android v5 thats on the way. Help would be appreciated guys
Take care

I tried to use ROM manager to update my rom to overstock, this did not work so well. It installed fine but then the battery refused to charge and all sorts of wierd problems so I used my backup to uninstall and that failed. I downloaded Odin3 v1.7 and downloaded the original stock firmware(eclair) and that failed. I then used UGJH2 and the phone will boot and see the galaxy s load but then the screen goes blank and vibrates periodically. in the recovery (3e) it says Can't mount /dev/block/st110. The last official firmware install was KC1 through kies but I can't find that anywhere is there any hope for this(sweating cause wife might find out)
I am also on sasktel and am an impulsive flasher (1-5 times daily) Heres an easy, fast fix. GO here:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-installing-rc5-easy.2382/
go to section enabled "For GT-I9000 users only" and follow step by step. You can stop at step 2 if you want to leave your rom stock samsung or do last few steps to have darkys on there. EIther way once done you'll also have to enable the 850 band *#2263# then enable wcdma 850 option. Also you will have to manually enter your APN under network options. I use inet.stm.sk.ca for sasktel. Note that the Ficeto_JVB.zip download there includes all needed to flash (.pit file, rom, odin). THis is always my fail safe method after boot loops ( I always screw something up playing around lol).
ps: also depending how desperate you are and how trusting you are, I work at sasktels head office in the cornwall and if you wish I am sure I could take 15 mins out of my day tomorrow to do this for you, although you will not be able to get through security so you will have to trust me taking off with your phone lol. email me at [email protected] if needed.
trouble is I can't put things on SD card because I can't get it to load android
You won't be able to load eclair through Odin because JL2 installed a new SBL (secondary boot loader). Go to samfirmware.com, download JL2, and use odin to flash that. Once that's flashed it should fix your issues. Then, if you want a custom ROM, try the romkitchen (romkitchen.org).
problem solved!! turns out darkyrom did fix my phone, I couldn't push the zip file to my phone but their tar file got my phone working! Thanks for all the help

I loled, I've been in the same boat, wife is always asking me why I always have to mess around with stuff. Shoulda seen her face after I soft bricked the phone the first time.
Just rooted my phone
I am new to this, I can do all kinda of things with my pc but with my phone a different story lol. I don't understand when you say "Eclair". Is that a different model or is that stock. I am too from sasktel.
Android 2.1 is Eclaire, 2.2 is Froyo and 2.3 is Gingerbread... Ice cream is next 4.0
hi guys, I know this is an old post but has anyone successfully unlocked their Sasktel i9000 vibrant without paying any unlock code service? has anyone tried anything like the SGS Unlock Pro that claimed to unlock all GSM galaxy S phones but did not list Sasktel? anyways, from the sound of it is Darky's rom currently the best for i9000's? I wanted to try CM9, so i did the super 1 click root and followed the CM wiki page to push clockwork recovery to the phone through Heimdall Suite but both times i tried failed and stuck in a boot loop so both times i ended up going through Odin to fix it. (super 1 click root didnt seem to stick b/c i lost superuser after fixing the phone w/ Odin, is that normal?)
anyways i had a very unique situation, originally had a Bell i9000m but died 1 week later tried to fix it numerous times for 7-8 months ( i live in U.S., and Sammy refuse to fix it b/c i dont have a canadian address they can send it back to b.s.) anyways finally landed myself a dead i9000m w/ broken screen, so i took both apart and put the working parts together. now 1 working phone with 3 problems: 1) so it seems that it's currently locked to Sasktel (it can be done but i'm curious if there is a cheaper way or even free) 2) CM wiki suggested Heimdall push CW recovery cause boot loop (some on xda suggested flashing the phone back to 2.2 (or 2.1??) first) 3) i was playing around and click on screen update and lose my touch keys ever since (ppl also suggest flashing it back to 2.1 and reupdate the keys, but will a bell i9000m 2.1 stock rom be compatible w/ the i9000m from Sasktel?)
anyways lots of questions there but if anyone can answer anyone of these would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance
Update: problem 1 is taken cared of. SGS Unlock Pro worked like a charm. tested, working. other 2 problem still unsolved.
I F****** up..
i played with rooting and flashing before i found these forums with guides and stuff.
and now my samsung galaxy have no mobile network, no imei number and freezes when i activate bluetooth..
it was also bricked (logo loop) but i fixed that.
i have flashed stock firmware in it and it works fine beside the 3 problems above.
i've tried
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1801997
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1804123
neither did work since i cant usb connect i've tryed every option to get my pc to usb detect my mobile.
including kies and latest samsung drivers, reinstalling and with or with out kies.
someone please be my hero and give me some answers
you guys ****ing rock and i know we can fixx this!
Unfortunately the only simple way to fix things ...
Unfortunately the only simple way to fix things is to find a backup of your EFS partition - look after something called:
efs.img
efs.tar.gz
efsbackup.tar.gz
efsdev-mmcblk0p3.img.gz
(the img versions are probably the best, but either one should work to some extent).
EDIT:
OOPS, just now I noticed that you are speaking about a i9305 - you should look here:

Hello All,
I couldn't find a Galaxy S Duos section so I'm posting here in the hope of getting some help.
I rooted the phone earlier in the year for no other reason that just to see if I could do it.
Shortly afterwards it developed the problem of not booting up from Power On and would simply flash the samsung writing and shut down again.
If I needed to do a a cold boot it was necessary to remove and replace the battery first. I don't power down very often so this was not a huge problem.
A few days ago I needed to switch one of the sims and afterwards discovered that it would no longer recognise the Sims and would show no Sims present.
I installed the most up to date firmware from earlier this year S7562XXBMD2 ICS 4.0.4 with ODIN and the process appeared to go well and the phone now shows that ICS 4.0.4 is present but still it won't recognise Sims.
Is the phone bricked, or is there a way out of this problem.
All i can suggest as its the wrong phone is to read the faqs and guides for I9300 and see if you can work out what your problem is .

They may be totally irrelevant or plain wrong for your Galaxy S Duos.
Alternative find a forum via google .
I believe my Note 3 is an international model. N900AUCUCMLG. I bought it from ebay 6 months after being activated. None of the files I have read list anything ending in MLG. When I have run file recovery software it comes up as international. What roms and procedures here would apply for this Phone. I bought a note 8 to replace it because it wouldn't update and it became impossible for me to use for mobile banking and other applications. I lost my job and would like to upgrade the note 3 to work for a year or so longer and sell the note 8 to reduce debt. Any help will be appreciated.
Boot into download mode to confirm the model number.
The sm-n900a was exclusive to AT&T in the USA. The international model is the sm-n9005.
If the phone is an sm-n900a, you will not find a stock ROM to flash in Odin from updato.com or sammobile.com as AT&T never released a full ROM. They only released ROM updates over the air.
note 3 info from odin mode
Product name: SM-N900A
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
SYSTEM STATUS: CUSTOM
KNOX KERNAL LOCK: 0X0
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0X0
QUALCOM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE (CSB)
I would have taken a screen short but it was not working.
Hope this info helps
The phone is an AT&T model with a locked bootloader.
The best you can do is update it to the latest stock rom. See here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703006
You can run a custom ROM but the custom ROM must be based on a stick room.
note 3 upgrade
Thanks so much. Now if I understand I can only go with a stock Rom OR a custom Rom based on a stock Rom. Lollipop is the lastest thing for this phone and is pretty out dated and I may end up with financial institutions shutting me down because the browser and software are out of date. Do any of the custom Rom over come these issue? And do these normally say custom with a unlocked lock image at start up?
note 3 upgrade
Now I remember going through this 6 months ago and had several issues. One is I never had an SD card installed and when I tried it would not install. I came here and got several reasons, size of card and manufacturer. Some were saying it has to be a Samsung SD card and others saying it has to be a certain size such as an 8GB. This phone is no longer active so I can't DL files straight to phone and mostly from what I'm reading I do not have TWRP or SafeStrap. Does this mean I'm done and or is it worth it to try this. I hated to give it up because it has changeable battery and mine has the over sized 10000 MAH battery. It only needed charging every other night. Also the link provided said not found when I checked earlier. Is it possible to DL files to PC and connect Via cable to upgrade?
You should be able to transfer files to the phone over Wi-Fi or a USB cable.
The phone cannot run TWRP, only Safestrap.
Did you have a chance to look at the XDA thread I linked?
note 3 upgrade
Yes I did go there and that's what prompted some of my memories about not having an SD card and unable to load an SD card to copy the files to. Also, the links with in the link to DL files are giving errors:
The file you are trying to download is no longer available.
This could be due to the following reasons:
The file has been removed because of a ToS/AUP violation.
Invalid URL - the link you are trying to access does not exist
The file has been deleted by the user.
I had also read a tutorial about how there are issues with safestrap installation. My first issue to over come is where to find these files and then where to copy them for the install.
Is the phone fully booting into the OS or are there problems with booting the existing OS?
Where did you see the phone's model # as being "N900AUCUCMLG"?
Maybe these files will help: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76818174&postcount=245
note 3 upgrade
Yes the phone will boot to OS and even get new emails through WiFi. As far as the N900ACUCMLG hope this helps" Image below.
As far as the links as I stated previously they are not working. I thank everyone for their help. I just want to get this phone working so I can sell my Note 8.
note 3 upgrade
Is there a way to force the note 3 to accept an SD card? If not is there a place in Odin to store it for loading? I do have Odin 3 on my desktop.
WIth Odin, the flash files do not have to be on the SD card. In fact, I have never used the SD card to flash Odin files.
Did you try the OC2 files from this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76818174&postcount=245 ?
Hello, friendly internet ghosts!
Yesterday I've bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 (in the system it says GT-i9515 but on the box GT-i9505)
The seller said he bricked the device at a shop to lineage 15.1 and after that, he had a no sim card error and that is the reason why he sold it.
I bought the phone thinking that if I would unbrick it back to original stock ROM (Netherlands PHN) it would work again, but NO! damn phone! Tried all different version (AP only) and .pit, ap, csc, etc. type of files with no luck.
It has been 10 hours non stop troubleshooting any way I could find, also hardware wise in order to make the sim card work but just no luck.
Any help is welcome, I've read some things about loading files in it, or rooting it or whatever but that know-how is just above my lollipop :silly:
At this moment I've put the following ROM on it -> I9515XXU1BOC3_I9515OXA1BOC3_I9515XXU1BOC3_HOME.tar.md5
Now i am downloading this one from sammobile -> I9515XXU1BOJ3 and CSC I9515YHN1BOI1. The operating system of this firmware is Android 5.0.1

You're in the wrong forum, this is the forum for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active (GT-i9295). You want the forum for the regular Samsung Galaxy S4 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4). Good luck.
