JB Roms and VoIP apps - Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G

Hi y'all! Well, I have done some extensive searching to see if this issue is plaguing anyone else. First off, I am running Team Insomnia's AOIP 4.2 08/03/13 build and it is by far the best ROM I have tried on this phone! The only actual issue I have I cannot figure out if it is ROM related or a problem with Talkatone (or VoIP entirely) itself. There for a bit, Talkatone was updating every day and coincidentally it was around the same time I put this ROM on my phone. The issue is Talkatone will run fine in the background and stay connected, but as soon as I get a call, go to make a call, SMS, whatever, basically when the app has to be opened, it will just simply close out. No FC error dialog, just closes. Then it will start back up and repeat the cycle. Sooooo, I then tried to use Groove IP, but it simply will not sign in. There are a couple apps that will work, but they're not really the ones I want to use. I tried to use Hangouts but it won't receive calls. This is really annoying lol. I basically want to know if anyone else with any of the custom JB ROMs are having any VoIP problems?? Thank you for your time reading this and for any replies forthcoming! B)

I'm using magic jack and don't even need to download a separate app. Just might be a app problem

Thanks for the input bud! Good news as of about an hour ago, I found a version of Groove IP that is working beautifully so far! No versions of Talkatone are working, which is weird because it did work a few days ago and I hadn't changed anything. Oh well, as long as Groove works I will be OK B)

Groove is a good app. Again it just might be the app also in talkatone try clearing cache settings - apps- talkatone - clear cache

Yea I actually did clear cache for Talkatone. Tried reinstalling a few times and tried a few older versions. Oh well, honestly I like Groove's layout and integration better and it doesn't seem to use as much memory, which is crucial on this awesome little phone

I've used Vonage Mobile on various ROMs for this phone,as well as GrooveIP. Never had any problems with either.

Thanks for the input! I considered Vonage but I've had my Google Voice number too long lol. Still no issues using Groove IP B)

i use fongo and never had any problems

Please forgive the really late reply to this thread, but since it is my thread I don't see the issue lol. Detdett, what is Fongo? Is it a VoIP app where I can get my own number? Or is it an app that works with GV? I'm looking into an alternate app that doesn't use GV now as by May, Google is changing their protocol where third party apps that allow VoIP calls thru data on GV will no longer work, ie Groove IP, Talkatone, etc. Its sad cuz I did have a good setup. Thanks again!

Build in VOIP App
I've found the best VOIP app to be the built-in SIP client in Android. From the dialer, click settings, Internet call settings / accounts. I found it to use less resources / battery and have better phone quality than sipphone or fring, etc.

I had no idea Android had a built in SIP client! Does it have to route thru a service that I would have to set up, such as pbxes.org, etc??

Is there any known issue with chrome 2 phone and cyanogen?

Wow kind of glad I wasnt the only one with this issue. How to we tell Cyan?
Well, that.
Mine hasn't worked for quite a while now, and I always have my gapps updated. It just keeps crashing every time I try to send any linkto my phone.

Not having much success with it either... Message says sent to phone, but my phone never responds.
Used to work perfectly, so I don't think it CM in general, but maybe the more recent builds?

Its wierd with this issue, sometimes it works(since loading cm6 rc1 it works...sorta) sometimes it doesnt or just takes a while to receive. Im not a tech genius by any means so i dont know for sure why it happens but the issue is present.
Are you guys in an area with bad reception? Mine works instantly.
doesn't work for me either.
on a separate note, I hate the chrome to phone browser extension because it doesn't remember login credentials
+1 It's really badly implemented. It's often more effective to send the link via email...

Works fine here on CM6.1

Force closes every time i try and send something. But i found if i get it to send the notification, rather than automatically launch, the notification stays and is still usable.
I found a fix/workaround. Try assigning a notification sound (you don't actually have to turn notification sounds on). Once I did that, the crashing stopped. It works even with auto launch enabled.
i just cleared Chrome to Phone data and re-connected with my account, and all is well

gizmo5 sipdroid

Looks like you can use google voice, gizmo5 and sipdroid to make free landline calls with the gtablet too. I am using CM B2 and was able to set things up using the directions I have used before at h ttp://androidcommunity.com/forums/f4/how-to-free-calls-via-wifi-using-google-voice-and-gizmo5-21836/
Keep in mind this is not perfect and I was only calling some after hours mailboxes since its late here but if you turn it to speaker phone it seems we can use our gtabs as a phone as well.
Edit: When I tried to call someone this morning I could here them pretty good but they said my voice was pretty bad though it may be this crappy hotel wireless doing that.

not sure how a single post thread made it to front page of the portal, lol.....
especially when the method employed uses gizmo5, to which new user application is (and has been for some time) suspended.
getting sipdroid to work through pbxes is a circus too. if you come up with an easy way to get sipdroid to work, that doesn't require gizmo5 (read: another easy way), i'd love to hear more

+1 i agree.
question comes to my mind how do posts get to the front page.. on what basis or rating?
Not sure why its on the front page of anything to be honest. The post was mainly for the people that had been using this already as I have for some time. I wasn't aware that they had closed enrollment after gizmo5 was purchased by Google. As I see it with this tablet being finicky about what apps it will run too much info is better than none.
Someone actually took the time to give my post a bad rating. Couple of minutes on Google and I found this guide to setting up a sip connection without gizmo5. I doubt I attempt it since I have a gizmoaccount but I wanted to give something additional.

That seems pretty shabby... I got basically the same working only using a Vonage Softphone SIP account instead of Gizmo... so this can be done...
I tried sipdroid + gizmo5 + google voice, but I found that the gtablet doesn't seem to play audio from the other party. The microphone works though.
Any ideas?

Hi
I used the same sipdroid+gizmo5+google voice setup and was able to talk to the other party and hear the other party by using the bluethooth. Conversation was clear on both the sides though i felt that there was some amount of lag to hear each others voice.
Hope bluetooth works for you too

BT Voice Dialer Help

Alright, I've gotten pretty desperate now, so I'm making a post of it. A couple of days ago my Captivate's BT voice dialer stopped working. Anytime I try to activate it, it never gets past the startup stage. I have tried all kinds of VoiceDialer.apks and none have fixed the problem and only one even installs. I've also gone into Perception 10.3's zip file and restored the original version and still nada.
I'm at my wits end here and any help would be appreciated. I really need bt voice dial to work, our Perception is only marginally more effective for me than stock, no offense to DG's amazing work.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
try going into Settings>Applications>manage applications> ALL > voice dialer > clear data
this can also be done through titanium backup.
and some more questions:
did this happen when you flashed the rom? or after? or unsure?
is this only when bt is connected? if so try clearing bt user data. (you will need to re pair)
This occurred before I even thought about reflashing the ROM. It, and the random vibrations, started up after I flashed to SpeedMod K13A. The normal voice dialer works fine, but doing it via bt does not. It only appears to be a problem with google one, since Vlingo works, in its limited capacity. I will try clearing the app data and

Gah, stupid swype. I will try out the app data and see if that works. Let me know if your have any other suggestions.

Ok, just went in and Voice Dialler (that's what the system calls it) does not have any data to clear. I'm not sure if this is because I can't get the perception 10 apk to install our something else

Ok, have just re-paired my T1 to my Captivate and still the same thing. I am also thinking that something is stealth crashing (crashing when you don't get the force close message) when the BT Voice Dialer is activated because it get stuck at starting up and I get about 3 vibrations when it first loads up. This is getting quite tiresome. Any suggestions or should I just try to reflash all over again?

[Q] Problems on 3G

Hey guys. First of all, I do have a working connection, but there's one problem though. Whenever my phone is on mobile data, some apps just work weird.
Gtalk: I am signed in, chatting with someone, then I put the phone away for a few minutes. The next time I check Gtalk, it is offline. It doesn't even want to get online until I turn 3G off and back on or I restart the app, then it works for a while (random) and then happens again.
Facebook: I browse the news feed and at some point (random) when i reach the bottom of the page and it should load the earlier posts, it just rolls the little circle but nothing happens. Closing the app and restarting it solves the problem, but again, temporalily.
Life is Magic (game): It can hang anytime between loading the levels or whenever it needs data connection.
Whenever these things happen, and I fire up the browser, it works... but despite that, Gtalk still wouldn't go online until I restart it. This happened on every every JB (LPY,LPQ,LQB) so far. I am using CoCore kernel, no other mods.
Thanks for help or any ideas!
Same problem here with gtalk . It has been offline on all version and combination of JB and kernels.can someone provide me stock gtalk app.so that I can re install

you can download a google apps package from here: http://goo.im/gapps
i tried that one too though, still the same. the problem is with the way certain apps using mobile networks, i believe. it doesn't happen on wifi.
Guys, really no one else uses Google Talk?
Still, I believe the problem is with 3G.
Yeah, like you guys said, this happens to me on every official firmwares and only when I'm on 3g. (Just noticed now that you guys mention it)
I had to turn off and on the 3g for it to be active again. I don't use gtalk but it happens with gmail, stock email, fb, xda-app and tapatalk too among others.
As mentioned, it's totally random and usually happens when left by itself for a while. Until now, the only workaround I used is like you guys, just to turn it off and on again.
Until now I thought it was a problem with my ISP but guess it wasn't.
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda premium
probably not. but still, turning it on and off doesn't solve the problem because Gtalk goes offline after a while and I don't receive messages which is the whole pont
also, facebook app stops refreshing the news feed as I scroll down...
up...
does anyone have a solution yet? are there others affected?
UPDATE: i went back to Gingerbread thinking that it will solve my problem. But that just doesn't happen, gtalk goes offline, i am not getting facebook messages etc,etc...
I think I should take this phone to the service.

Anyone able to run the app called utter!?

OK, I've been wrecking my brain trying to figure out why I can't get the app to run on my note 4. I've been to the devs. Xda page for the app. But he has been mia since February and my post keep getting ignored. I thought I'd make a last ditch effort and try here. Basically the app crashes when I try to launch it. I've downgraded Google search in hopes that it would fix the issue but no luck. I'm running a stock rooted 4.4.4. Any help would be appreciated.
Runs on my stock Rugby Pro running stock 4.1.2 Jelly Bean well enough to allow voice dial and texting from the bluetooth headset on my motorcycle helmet. Without the headset, it is hit-and miss because the app always tries online via wifi first. If in good wifi it still works, but when not good wifi it hangs for a variable (sometimes long) time looking for network. I loaded tasker to toggle wifi off/on when bluetooth is connected, and this seems to fix it well for use daily on my commute by motorcycle. If I drive, I'll probably need to use a bluetooth earpiece. I get the feeling that planets must align for this to work, and it does for me. Developer seems to have abandoned it. I think offline voice recognition - at a minimum for voice dial - should be a mandatory capability for all phones. (And S Voice does NOT work!) If I had not found a fix, I was planning to put my SIM back in the old Rugby II flip and just use the Pro for wifi. They are company phones, and I only went the smartphone route to get company email.
Loading the original Play store version worked for me initially, with no crash issues but still experimenting and learning commands. Then I loaded the latest beta (see page ~ 720 of his main thread) and it seems even better, and Tasker fixed the wifi issue somewhat.
Sent from my LePanII using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for the reply. I have the latest beta install but I still have no luck. I'm wondering if another app such as a antivirus app could be causing it to give me an error.
Doubt it is anti-virus (but possible). Most likely Google Search version or Android version. Check the official thread and find tge ones known to work. I'm just lucky to have a six-month old phone with three-year old software, I guess.
