YES its rootable all you need to run the doomloard's event exploit from original dev section.. happy rooting

ok, I checked that thread and now have additional question for anyone who can have a time and knowledge to answer. obviously there is a new stock rom 12.0.A.2.245 for our bellowed SP. now, I have that older version 12.0.A.1.257 and though I tried updating device firmware I receive message that my phone is up to date. so I assumed this is probably due to some drug deal sony have with my operator ( the one the phone came from) and now for some reason sony would not let me update firmware (yet). so my question is next, actually there are several questions:
A. am I'm going to brick my phone if I manually download and update new firmware via flashtool regardless of sony saying my device is up to date?
B. Is this new firmware 12.0.A.2.245 so much better that is actually worth updating? (this should be A)
C. if i root this old firmware and perhaps install CW as well, and than update to the new one, am I'm going to loose both root and CW, or perhaps only CW after updating? or i will get to keep root and CW?
D. is it better to update and than root, or root and than update?
i hope this is not too much. thanks!
ps. i forgot to say, though my phone came from an operator, it is not sim locked and boot unlock status is YES

A. no unless u r on unlocked bootloader that should brick our phone.
B. every firmware bring new advantages and disadvanteges..so i think u should upgrade it because camera has been improved! (low light photography)
C no u will loose both root and cwm
D both first update than root !! ROOT IS AWSM!!! it makes u feels that device is actually yours!!

thanks for a quick reply. so, I am going to update first and than do that "flash old kernel - root - flash new kernel" thing. and than backup the TA partition from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
I would like to save the BE and DRM keys 'cause I'm sure I'll unlock bootloader as well that entire process is what makes android so much better that sh**pple. like you said, you actually get to own your device. thanks again and thanks XDA!

[Q] Clarifying question about 4.3 root.

This is for my curiosity and many other users who I know are wondering the same thing, I've searched for this, but can't really find anything that answers it to my satisfaction.
So I'm running 4.3, with build number .290
I want to root my phone, but I know I need to flash .534 back to my phone. As far as I know, THIS will stop my sim being recognised by the phone. Do I then need to ROOT the phone, and then flash .290 again for the sim to work again.
So which .290 flash will I use? Just the normal FTF file for .290?
Thank you, I'm an active contributor to the forum, but I like to be super sure about what I'm doing before I do it, and I gather many other users do. The reason I'm asking in such detail is because my phone was rooted before, I updated (by mistake) to 4.3 and then flashed back to .290 where it stopped my sim working. Took me a few hours to work out how to fix it, as the pccompanion wasn't working for me!
Thank you!

why don't you unlock your 4.3 rom and flash a recovery to root it ? would be easier

If you want to flash the firmware you have, follow this guide from part B to part C, then you will have a ftf copy of your current firmware.
About the root thing, downgrade to .257 then .534 so you don't have the IMEI and signal issues. Then root and OTA to .257 and then, if you get OTA update to .290 go for it, but some people said that you will only get partial root access.
So you will have to either flash a prerooted firmware or unlock bootloader and turn off Sony's RIC and then root the normal way.
To unlock bootloader, just follow the instructions here but don't forget to backup the TA partition using this guide.

[Q] Unrooting my HTC One

Hi Guys, I just got the phone (international/ non-carrier version) yesterday. Updated it to 4.3, and rooted it, following the guide from HTCOneRoot.com.
Everything is fine and dandy, as when I rooted my previous phone. But in my sheer eagerness, I didn't find out that the 4.4 was available also.
I now have a rooted phone, and I can't update it, as it goes directly to TWRP recovery when I try to install. I guess this is what it's supposed to do?
From what I can read you cannot install OTA when you have rooted your phone.
So I tried looking up how to unroot it. But this seems like a rather difficult project, and I am not sure I understand. From what I read I need to download a RUU, to install a stock rom(?) and I tried looking up this, but there are tons to select from, and I haven't the slightest clue which matches my phone. Can anyone be of assistance, as to how I can revert my root and update to 4.4, so I can root my phone with the latest android, instead? I'm not really interested in getting a custom rom on my phone.
Guess I should've read more about rooting before doing it, as I'm kind of a novice, but I'm more a trial and error kinda guy .
Thanks.
Edit: Or should I just find a custom "stock" KitKat ROM, and install that, from my current position? Is that even possible?
Sort of an answer

Hey man, so to find the right ruu go here htcdev webiste, go under kernel source code and then choose device as the one and then choose carrier and download one of the matching ones.
For the other stuff I'm in the same boat as you. Just waiting for answers...I would try looking at youtube and type how to unbrick htc one and try those first. Didn't work for me but might for you.

Thanks. I'll look that up.
I am not bricked, as the situation is now. I just have a rooted phone, working with 4.3. And I want to upgrade to 4.4.
So I guess I have to choose HTC as carrier? I live in Denmark and am unsure whether to choose EU or EU NFC as region? Also what kernel version do I want to download? I am somewhat unsure what to do next.

Do a fastboot getvar all, and choose the RUU that matches your MID and your CID
I've only rooted my phone so far. From what I understand I can just install a "custom 4.4" from this point, right?

Flash Stock Sony Firmware on to carrier locked phone

Hey guys,
I have one or two questions I cant seem to find a definitive answer for.
I currently have a Z1 locked to my local O2 network. They still haven't release any updates past 4.2.2.
I was wondering would it be possible to flash a Sony Stock Factory Image so that future OTA updates would come from Sony and not through my carrier?
I was looking at this ROM here. So Root the phone, flash the ROM and then remove root.
Some might say why not root, unlock etc. but the to be honest I have done my fair share of trying different ROM's on different phones, throughout the years and I just love how stable the phone is and how good the battery life is that I just don't want to mess around with it too much.
Dave
You already messing around. That link which you posted is a method to root your phone and if you do not want to root it then is not the right thread. To update your phone to latest FW you have to flash the Unbranded Firmware .136 for your model from HERE
Use flashtool v0.9.13 to do that, wipe everything and you are done. This is for Locked Bootloader and you will also get next Updates when they comes.

Yes, it's simple because you just want the latest Firmware only, No Root, No Unlocked Bootlader.
One last question, if I flash the latest UK version which is .290 will I receive OTA or PC Companion updates as soon as .136 is out for the UK version?

Mate, I'd hold on a bit if I were you . You have to unlock your bootloader to flash these ROMs. Unlocking means losing your warranty (special case in India :crying. And there's also tiny bugs in those ROMs.

It all depends - while I will leave the research up to you, I was able to update without unlocking the bootloader on an xt1064. The trouble is that all the pieces have to fall into place correctly, meaning that you have to have the right update file for your build (and YOUR device - xt1068). My update process was haphazardly documented here. Basically, I started out with a carrier locked (Consumer Cellular) version of the phone, running their specific build. I unlocked the phone's sim lock via online vendor, flashed over the latest factory firmware I could find at the time (21.11.23.titan_retuaws). from there, I installed the specific update to go from 21.11.23 to 22.21.25 (where I am now). but that's the kicker - you need the OTA files that correspond to your exact build(s) and there may be more than one to get you all the way up to current.
Anyway, I did all of this using official, signed OTA files and firmware and more importantly, with a locked bootloader.

NIIIICEEE!!!!!! But the problem here is, we don't have Lollipop OTAs for XT1068/69 to do that.:crying:

Upgrading stock versions

First of all, first post here so hello everyone and thanks for having me
My issue is the following, I have a C6906 which I bought a couple of years ago from Ancel (one of the carriers here in Uruguay) and it has always had a branded 4.3 (14.2.A.1.136 to be precise) which has never been updated by Ancel (the version listed in XperiFirm is the same I have and my phone has never offered an OTA update). I asked Ancel about this recently to see if I could expect any official updates and was basically told "yeah, that's not happening".
So what I would like to do is upgrade the phone to Lollipop by myself, namely to 14.6.A.1.236 from the US which seems to be the most current and generic stock available. Rooting and custom ROMs are (at this point) not something I'm looking at.
So I read a bunch of stuff and I think I'm "ready" to do my upgrade, but before messing around with my phone, I wanted to have somebody else more knowledgeable check my plan and give me a couple of pointers so I avoid any snafus as much as possible
Right now I have Flashtool (0.9.21.0), XperiFirm (4.9.1) and I've used it to download/unpack the ROM I think I want (C6906_Customized US_1276-7484_14.6.A.1.236_R2D), so my questions are:
1) Are there any glaring mistakes in the tools/approach described above?
2) Since I'm doing stock -> stock, can I perform the flash/upgrade without unlocking my bootloader? As I understand it, the bootloader checks for the installed ROM signature and I would expect the new one to also be signed by Sony, but I don't know if the signature also includes my carrier (and that's why I haven't been offered an upgrade yet).
3) If the answer to 1 is negative (i.e. I have to unlock my bootloader anyway), is there any advantage in going for stock instead of some other custom ROMs? As I understand it, unlocking the bootloader removes DRM keys that might kill some functionality (like "advanced" camera algorithms), would that happen for both stock and custom ROMs?
Thanks a lot in advance for any replies/pointers :fingers-crossed:
You don't need to unlock bootloader to flash stock ROM. Unlocking is need if you want a custom kernel which is not your case. Anyway you can backup your DRM keys and use that to lock/unlock your bootloader whenever you want to. See here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
Thanks... Just to confirm something else, if I try to flash without unlocking the bootloader, there's no chance the version I'm installing won't work right? If it's not a properly signed version the locked bootloader will prevent Flashtool from putting it on the phone?
