Hey guys,
I have one or two questions I cant seem to find a definitive answer for.
I currently have a Z1 locked to my local O2 network. They still haven't release any updates past 4.2.2.
I was wondering would it be possible to flash a Sony Stock Factory Image so that future OTA updates would come from Sony and not through my carrier?
I was looking at this ROM here. So Root the phone, flash the ROM and then remove root.
Some might say why not root, unlock etc. but the to be honest I have done my fair share of trying different ROM's on different phones, throughout the years and I just love how stable the phone is and how good the battery life is that I just don't want to mess around with it too much.
Dave
You already messing around. That link which you posted is a method to root your phone and if you do not want to root it then is not the right thread. To update your phone to latest FW you have to flash the Unbranded Firmware .136 for your model from HERE
Use flashtool v0.9.13 to do that, wipe everything and you are done. This is for Locked Bootloader and you will also get next Updates when they comes.

Its as simple as that? I might give it a shot this evening so when I get home.

Yes, it's simple because you just want the latest Firmware only, No Root, No Unlocked Bootlader.
One last question, if I flash the latest UK version which is .290 will I receive OTA or PC Companion updates as soon as .136 is out for the UK version?

Hi everyone. I tried finding info on my firmware, but somehow i couldn't find wether or not it is "rootable" it is 12.0.A.1.257, global version. Can someone confirm if it is indeed rootable. Thanks!

YES its rootable all you need to run the doomloard's event exploit from original dev section.. happy rooting
ok, I checked that thread and now have additional question for anyone who can have a time and knowledge to answer. obviously there is a new stock rom 12.0.A.2.245 for our bellowed SP. now, I have that older version 12.0.A.1.257 and though I tried updating device firmware I receive message that my phone is up to date. so I assumed this is probably due to some drug deal sony have with my operator ( the one the phone came from) and now for some reason sony would not let me update firmware (yet). so my question is next, actually there are several questions:
A. am I'm going to brick my phone if I manually download and update new firmware via flashtool regardless of sony saying my device is up to date?
B. Is this new firmware 12.0.A.2.245 so much better that is actually worth updating? (this should be A)
C. if i root this old firmware and perhaps install CW as well, and than update to the new one, am I'm going to loose both root and CW, or perhaps only CW after updating? or i will get to keep root and CW?
D. is it better to update and than root, or root and than update?
i hope this is not too much. thanks!
ps. i forgot to say, though my phone came from an operator, it is not sim locked and boot unlock status is YES

A. no unless u r on unlocked bootloader that should brick our phone.
B. every firmware bring new advantages and disadvanteges..so i think u should upgrade it because camera has been improved! (low light photography)
C no u will loose both root and cwm
D both first update than root !! ROOT IS AWSM!!! it makes u feels that device is actually yours!!
thanks for a quick reply. so, I am going to update first and than do that "flash old kernel - root - flash new kernel" thing. and than backup the TA partition from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
I would like to save the BE and DRM keys 'cause I'm sure I'll unlock bootloader as well that entire process is what makes android so much better that sh**pple. like you said, you actually get to own your device. thanks again and thanks XDA!
Hi,
I am running stock 14.1.G.2.257 which I got via OTA. Prior to doing the OTA update, I rooted my device, and the root was kept through the OTA.
I want the newest version (14.2.A.0.290), and I know the customization code for my device and have the correct FTF file downloaded to my pc already.
However, I am afraid that if I flash via flashtool I will lose root. That will happen, right? (The FTF I have is completely stock, not rooted)
I tried checking in the updates app, and I don't see an OTA update yet for .290. Should I just wait patiently, or is there a reason the OTA just won't show up for my phone? Anything I can check to determine OTA is still working?
Thanks for your help.
If you flash the ftf via flashtool you will loose root.
You should wait for the OTA update or till they find a way to root it in locked bootloader.
Thank you, that helps. So if I want patiently I should see OTA eventually right?

can anyone downgrade to 534 voda UK, root then upgrade to 290 through OTA to preserve root?
or do you need to have Vodaphone uk xperia z1?
Am on EE UK and still not OTA but would be tempted to do this if it works and then remove the voda bloatware
edit: doesnt matter. seen the answer in another thread

I think you can try flashing the Vodafone ftf without wiping data, then update via OTA, but the root is partial.
Correct me if I'm wrong
Hi guys, i just flashed the original firmware on my xperia T because im hoping the update will come by next week. I have also relocked my bootloader. However i was wondering if there was a way to receive the update even if my bootloader was unlocked and on a custom rom..?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

If you have the original firmware AND the bootloader locked, you will get the update directly from Sony.
If you have a custom rom OR just the bootloader unlocked, you will be able to update only with the Flashtool and a FTF file.
okay thank you very much mate

Correction: you can still receive an OTA update if you're on stock firmware and your phone's bootloader is unlocked, but installing the OTA update will in most cases brick your device (again, that's if the bootloader is unlocked).

Thanks for the explanation but in the second sentence I wrote "able to update" and not "able to receive the update from Sony".
There's a slight difference of meaning, so my statement was right.
And yours is a clarification, not a correction
Also when your phone is branded, you have to wait a bit longer until your provider will provide you with their 4.3 version? Does anybody knows how I can see whether my phone is branded? If I look in the Service Info settings it says :1262-6309_9.1.a.1.141 Generic User at Phone Software Version and GLOBAL-HSPA_9.1.a.1.141 at File System version. At Customization Version: 1266-0471_R71.
Anybody?
I've checked both the Sony PC Companion and the OTA update but 14.2.A.1.136 has not been released. Anybody in UK received this update yet? Phone is unlocked from Amazon UK.
Is it branded at all
(amazon things or tmobile or att)
I use to have a TMobile Xperia s which never received Jellybean
(i had to install it manually through flashtool with a provided FTF)
i got anoyed with the bootloader so i swapped for a unbranded one
this may be an idea for you
note:
if you have a global device, your updates come from sony, not amazon through sony or vodaphone
amazon may not even started on making their amazon versiom of the .136 FW
Nope. Unbranded and unlocked.
unlocked as in?
bootloader?
if so unlocked bootloaders prevent updating

Unlocked as in sim free. The same as you can buy from Sony outright.
Try the "Sony update service" software for pc. Ive found PC Companion abit hit or miss with updates.
Sony update service (sus) seems to get updates first for me although am EE UK

i gave up with OTA updates as they seem to be about 4 weeks behind the pc software when it comes to updates.
also seems to fail a fair bit
i dont know if "Sony update service" does a back up before updating although am sure it does prompt before the update if it can keep your data or not.
it was able to keep my data updating from 290 to 136 but it might be worth doing a backup on pc companion first
obviously updating through SUS will lose root if you have it

dont think it backs up apps. more contacts, messages, account details etc
sure PC Companion states what it back ups and gives you options on what you want backing up
I'm assuming SUS does a factory reset as well? How did it went for you?

it probably can do. it does state before updating whether youll lose data or not.
as mentioned, i went from 290 to 136 through SUS and i didnt lose any data, straight update
Don't think any UK unlocked phone has had the 136 update. I certainly have not and others on the Sony forums are in the same boat.

Vodafone UK has it, just flash the FTF from the FTF mega collection. It will be fine on your phone and the only difference is it will have a couple of extra apps in it that you can remove with titanium
Also, when your FTF becomes available you will be able to flash that if you want to go back, and in the mean time you can enjoy KK
I have an unlocked phone from Amazon UK. Also, would doing so break warranty?
Edit: What's FTF?

Not unless it says so specifically in your warrenty which I doubt.
Look in the general section for the sticky FTF (Flashtool file) mega collection thread. Look down the list for C6903_14.3.A.0.681_1276-0815_KitKat4.4.2_Vodafone-UK, download it
Then download the latest flashtool from flashtool.net and follow the instructions from the FTF mega collection thread to flash it
You do not need root or anything else,
this is exactly like pccompanion except you get to choose which version to update to or downgrade to and it flashes a completely stock FW to your phone with no modifications
it will rolling out
it will rolling out

Yeah, Indian version was delayed by a month or so.
But I guess some regions haven't even received the 4.4.2 update yet.
Just got the Update Notice (C5502) via PCC here in Taiwan. But it failed to move forward after software download... Will give it another try later...

But if you have unlocked the bootloader, you will have to relock it.

Unless Sony decides to be generous enough to provide us 5.0 update. But the chances are bleak.
