ZR SONY LOGO embedded onto the Display or Anti Shatter Film? - Sony Xperia ZR

Does this have the same problem as the Xperia Z where if you remove the anti shatter film after it gets scratched the sony logo also comes off?

I don't think many people will remove the anti-shatter film... not in my case

I actually think about removing this fu.... anti shatter film, as the screen of my 2 weeks old XPeria is already scratched.
Dunno if the Sony logo is part of the film...

So nobody knows?
I don't want to remove it if I buy this phone but if it gets scratched and can be noticeable I might want to remove it. Problem is will it also remove the logo?

on the Z/ZL it's on the film but for ours it doesn't LOOK like it is... idk tho i wanna know myself since i too wanna remove it and put a nano coating

so how can we be sure of this?
can anyone in this world find out the answer to this question?
it should be easy to see if its on the screen protector or not.

which ntyprm
I 'm interested as well, but I don't want to be the first to remove the shatterproof film

You will lose the logo if you remove the film. I've get this info before purchase one, so i ask reseller paste another layer proctor film on it and get a spare film too

wont that be too much layers of film?
i mean 2 layers would reduce sensitivity and also sharpness and make the display look um kinda crappy and dull?

Not really, I feel it more sensitive than GNexus which gets only one protect film.
Two layer is still very thin to get phone detects finger movement.

can zr detect with glove on?

ha, it could actually be beneficial, if it reduces sensitivity enough to avoid water drops register as hits, while keeping sensitive enough to fingers.

Removing the anti-shatter film will void the guarantee or so some Z users said. And yes it's pretty stupid and easily scratched mine had a tiny scratch on it, almost not visible but I know the f***er is there and I used it very, very carefully while I was waiting for my screen protectors. Not really a bright ideas this from SONY.

Hi guys,
I removed the film on my XZR, and confirm that the Sony logo is embedded on the anti shatter film.

How difficult is the removal? I have heard its more difficult on the z1 than on the Z. If you have one edge loose can you simply pull it off or do you need a knife for scraping of the film?

Well, it was really easy. I just pulled off one corner with my nails (and I have not so much ) and then removed it entirely once the corner is up. No need of knife or anything else.

That's good to know. I think i will do so too, once the scratches start to get annoying. This anti-shatter film is really easy to scratch...

Yeah mine came with both. I think everyone has them.
Some people removed them, but some people say they help with the strength of the glass.
I took my front one off because it got some marks on it... Seems fine without it.
I say: Leave them on until they get damaged (which seems quite easy)

Afaik the Sony logo is on the preinstalled shatterproof protectors and will disappear when removing the front one.
it seems, not only this protectors increases dust absorption and finger print but also is getting a feel of lost slip on screen when i want to sweep between the pages.i think is better to remove this shields if it is possible and dont injury knocks the screen
my q is why sony should be placed these protectors even with using drugonglass in z?!!!is this can a reason for worse viewing angle on xperia z?!!!

Then you're very lucky as the back of mine looks like a multicolored rainbow of oil slick after a few mins use.
Did you lose the Sony logo off the front? If you didn't you likely just removed the second screen protectors and left the shatter proof factory ones on.
Mines almost unusable now as the fingerprints are worse than any phone I've ever owned.
Viewing angles remain unchanged from removing the protectors, you shouldn't spread false info as there will be a lot of unhappy campers removing their protectors and seeing zero viewing angle difference.
I think you'd better not peel them off. These coverings are designed to prevent broken glass splinters hurting people, and hard and stuck very tight with special method in factory. It won't affect display I suppose, trust Sony. It's part of the device. Moreover, since it scratches easily, add one more film on it...
warranty
not sure if removing sony anti-shatter foils does also remove warranty...as you are given foils also in package, maybe read somewhere on XDA
I do not understand why people remove these...
- When NOT removed and If you drop the phone, it prevents the glass splinters from shattering all over the place.
- When removed Sony can no longer guarantee the phone to be water proof, as stated in another topic.
- When removed the phone attracts more fingerprints.
- When removed you lose the Sony logo on the front.
As far for these scratching a lot, I have not put on any extra screen protector and do not have a single scratch yet.
However I do use a leather case, always do that with all my phones.
Used Xperia Play for 2 years aprox, not a single scratch on the pre installed film.
Kind regards, Stefan.
The dragontrail glass is only for durability purposes! DO NOT remove the shatter proof sheet, it protects the screen from drop shocks so it doesn't get broken! Use the supplied screen protector and you will be fine! Unfortunately here in Greece it ships without screen protectors in the box and damn we got the highest price! (€699)

Does removing the factory installed screen protector on front affect water-proofing?

I want to remove it but afraid that it will somehow affect the water proofing feature. Can anyone confirm if it will remain waterproofed it i do so?

Hahaha it's hard to find something good.
Got another one: When you remove the protector, do you think that the glass will suddenly start leaking? I mean it's glass... the molecules of the glass are closer together then water.
Or if you want a simple answer: NO IT WILL NOT AFFECT THE DEVICE WATERPROOF ABILITY AT ALL!

Actually this is not a very apt comparison at all.
When removing the protector you *MAY* break the water tight seal the glass has with the midframe, the anti-shatter sheet is glued down with a pretty strong adhesive, force on the wrong angle will break the seal.
Short answer: It can if removed incorrectly.
May I also just ask how the screens use in wet weather will be effected. With the film on I seem able to use the screen accurately even with many droplets on screen.

That's not a problem at all.
The only problem is that the movie will most likely stop playing since drops will be registered as touches and then the screen will do crazy things when you have a lot of drops on the screen.
I use MX Player, it has an option to lock all the controls and even that gets bypassed sometimes by the drops.

But with the film on, the drops don't seem to count as touches. I'm not too bothered tbh, it's rare I want to use it with water on screen. When I get my replacement I'll probably remove it's protector

Is this a serious question?
WHY would you desire to remove the shatter proof coating in the first place. I may imagine doing so may affect your warranty? I doubt Sony would have added that addition if it was not needed?
Glass is impervious to water ingress.

it's there to evade some dumbasses complaining about cutting fingers and ****, if somehow you break the screen. it won't make your screen stronger, only safer afterwards... so it's use comes in, only when you already broke the glass, and decide to play with it's screen

Question about removing Xperia Z's anti-shatter film

Hi guys, just curious about this, I would like to remove the front screen protector of Xperia Z to get rid of the Sony logo (not hate it put prefer the front to be all black). Would this affect the phone's water resistant feature?
Have anyone tried this yet?
Besides, is the oleophobic coating of the glass affected? From the video below I think there's something wrong with his phone, the reflection looks pixelated

I have done it and it doesnt affect water resistant feature (its a film how can it affect the whole phone?)
the screen have little to no oleophobic feature, your best bet is to buy some rain-x spray it on there or buy another screen protector that have oleophobic property.
I'd leave it alone for the simple reason you'll regret it. I don't see how you could remove it, you can cover it over in some way but it's not going to look good and would be noticeable from certain angles.

IT WILL SCRATCH.
IT WILL BREAK AND IT WILL SCRATCH.
My previous xperia z had antishatter removed and the screen scratched from a sand particle hidden in my microfibre cloth, if you decide or have taken of antishatter film, put on a screen protector as soon as you can. Preferably you should put on a good quality screen protector onto antishatter film. That way you will have constant new looking phone.
Which is what I've done with my NEW Xperia z.
after taking off antishatter layer on my first phone, AIthough i was trying to convince myself that it feels better, and looks better debranded,
Everytime the beautiful nostalgic sony ad came on, and the guy took out his xperia z to take a picture of his girlfriend covered in courfull dry paint. And then washed his xperia z afterwards showing off that beautiful sony logo. My heart would sink ,as I knew my phone would never look like that ever again.

xperia z - screen super sensitive?

I am sure everyone here is aware of the behavior of a screen when you put pressure on it or squeeze the sides of a phone hard? You see moving liquid etc.
I don't apply too much pressure to my phone when scrolling through a page and there is a specific section on my screen that makes this liquid ripple effect as if I am putting pressure on the screen?
Even when I took a screen capture , which requires power button + volume down it created this effect on the edges of my screen and I am not even holding the phone tight.
Should I be concerned ? I do have a tpu gel that I am thinking is intensifying the pressure when I hold the phone.

Interesting so I really don't need to add extra protection then ! I may be exchanging my phone anyway due to the weird liquid behavior on the same spot.
I went back to the t-mobile store and the employee saw the screen issue and agreed that was not normal. We also checked the demo display and it had the exact same issue except in a different location on the screen.
Told them I wanted to exchange but I would continue returning the phone if each new phone has the same behavior. They would not allow me to exchange for the HTC one without paying 50 dollars restock fee. I thought that was pretty ridiculous considering that there was an existing issue and concern.
The exchange ended up not having the issue ^_^ yay. I really did want to keep the xperia but I actually thought it was going to be a normal thing on the phone which I would not of been OK with. Now I am wondering if it was a case I tried at the Sony store that was super tight that might be caused the lcd to have a weird spot.

Matte Screen Protector for ZR

Hi all !
I just bought THIS screen protector and just loving it.
I was worried about the fitting to the screen but the precision laser cut was very accurate, fits exactly to the screen.
I applied it myself for the first time, it is magnetic(does not leave adhesive residue) so you can always remove apply it correctly. The matte finish is just excellent
It is for Indian users but the seller said they import these from abroad so the same brand can be found on international sites too.
I got a clear screen protector and i like it better than matte finish.

Thank you, for your suggestion I got 3 matte and 6 clear screen protectors I will see how it goes and which I like best. Has anyone removed the pre-installed protector from their device. I'm concerned that I'll remove the SONY logo if I get rid of it (I hear that happened on xperia Z units). Is there any danger in removing it and should I remove it at all or just place the new one on top of it?
Place the new one on top. Doesn't dampen sensitivity too much.

At first didn't like my matte screen protector...
Pros
feels nicer!
no filthy finger prints!
minimal light reflections..
if you use dim backlight it really helps..
you can re apply it.
no air bubbles at all!
Cons
unable to use it as a mirror when screen off.
colours and images on the screen are not as sharp,
slight glow on whites.
But now i wouldn't go back!
I'm still waiting for my screen protector and today I noticed a tiny scratch on the screen. It's not that visible but is there a way to fix that. Will the screen protector cover it or I'm stuck with a scratched SONY?

Take a pencil eraser and rub it off..
It should not be the screen itself. Sony is known to apply screen protectors on each phone in-manufacture. It's not visible but if you insist you can remove it. It's even possible that the sony logo is simply printed on it, like the Xperia V.

Removing the anti-shatter film will invalidate the warranty.
Seriously?? How could this void the warranty? It has nothing to do with the hardware and doesn't affect the device in any way!

Yes, there are a lot users talking about it, removing the shatter-proof screen protector voids the warranty because it'll no longer be shatter proof.....stupid isn't it? I already scratched mine before knowing that, now I'm stuck with a scratched screen until my warranty ends and I remove the f****ing thing.
is this detail specified in the texts ?

I can't really say I haven't researched this, what I know for sure is that this protector is factory heated onto the screen and it's not supposed to be removed.
Hi,
I'm trying to find a screen protector for a whole display, without any holes in it.. I found this: amazon.de/dp/B00K1JTIMG/ but of course, I'm not sure if it's a picture of a real product or just illustrative picture. can someone confirm / recommend something else?
(sorry, posting links is blocked, since I'm new here..)

You are right. The protector is factory-heated onto the screen, remove it and the Sony logo will go off. As for the warranty, there are two paragraphs Sony could use against you if you remove the protector (as stated by the Important information brochure):
Do not paint or attempt to disassemble or modify the product. Only Sony authorized personnel should perform service.

Additionally, "What we will do" section, says:
7. Tampering with any of the seals on the Product will void the warranty.

I know it is not very specific, but hey, that's how lawyers do it.
The only thing I always wonder about, is what kind of glass ZR's screen uses... GorillaGlass? DragonTrail? I found many different sites talking about that, but none of them had conclusive evidence. Sony's official response is ZR uses a "Shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass". No specific brand mentioned .
Anyway, I bought a good protector for 5 bucks. It's a "KLX Anti-explosion Soft TPU 0.2mm Screen Guard Film" and the package includes everything you need to apply it successfully. Also, I saw a 1mm tempered glass protector for 15 bucks, thinking of buying it next time.
