Hello!
I'm wondering if any is working on it actively? when do you think we will see a free, working codec / player of divx / xvid for android / htc magic mobile?
conveting movies is ok, but not a big fun ;P so, i hope some one will come up with something soon...
there is a paid one, but it is not too good, and movies got unwanted delays in middle of the presentation.
thanks!
xyflash not work for you?it does for me on hero and magic?

sorry, just to clarify, yxflash is a free app on market, but you need to buy a license for it. there is a trial mode for ti.
and it needs to be polished more as well. Doesn't work perfectly for me
does it work perfectly for most people?
I'm using it to show people the new cataclysm wow trailer. Although it will play the original HD file from the website, it is laggy as hell. I use pspvideo9 to convert it to mp4. Plays Like a dvd.
It works ok for me on my phone, but i only use it to watch tv shows,so 45 minutes run time max. (test both G1 and Magic).
Lifehacker just posted that about watching divx on Android, and I thought of this thread. They use RockPlayerBase which is still in beta, but apparently gets the job done.

I have tested in my HTC Magic and it doesn't work. A friend of mines tested it on his Motorola Milestone and it is awesome.

You're trying to play 720p video on a device with 192/288mb ram and a 528mhz CPU?! You're clearly intoxicated if you think that's going to work smoothly.

Nope, I am aware of the hardware limitations of the 32B, but I am trying to play a 640x352 AVI. Rockbase player doesn't even shows a frame, it shows nothing. With other players like yxflash I can see the movie, although not in a decent frame rate.

Ah ok, you said HD, so..
That sucks, would be really nice if it would play TV in the standard formats :-(

i'm trying it on my HTC magic (running cyanogen 5.0.8, which is indeed 2.1)
doesn't work for me either. i can't seem to open any files.
tried 4 different avi's. all of them bring the app back to the folder selection screen.
i tried uninstalling + reinstalling the player twice as well.
any suggestions?
It requires a CPU with ARMv7 instruction set. HTC Magic have only ARMv6. That is why it isn't working...
RockPlayer does have 3 branches:
taken from their site at andplayer.com
Version ARM V7 : Google Nexus One, HTC Desire Incredible EVO , Moto Milestone XT800, Droid Series,Acer Liquid, Samsung Galaxy S, Sony Ericsson X10 ,Dell Thunder Streak, LG LU2300 .ect
Version ARM V6 VFP: Samsung SHW-M100S GT-i5700 ,HTC Legend ,etc.
Version ARM V6 : All models left running Android support ARMv6 instruction set.
I was able to play an Xvid encoded file from my mytouch 1.2. It can be a little choppy and audio/video desync, but it mostly does the job.

I have just tried it on my HTC MT3G and it gets audio/video desync, although it was a small sized video...
So, guys , as i understand there's no solution - we can't play xvid and as I tried big .avi files on our mt3g`s. If someone finds a player please post it here so we all can use it btw if someone can tell me player which plays big avi files - please write me a message or smth.
Are you serious? Did you not bother reading the thread before posting? Are you just trying to pad your message post count? READ.
I am thinking probably not but still thought I would ask...
Presumably VLC will when/if it turns up on the market, but until then any ideas?

Awesome thanks!
Actually Moboplayer is better.
Mod Edit: No piracy in here, please.
I have the free version running right now, but I am thinking about getting the paid version. Has anyone had any experience with this app on the NC? I am not really worried about the live video as I don't have an mlb.tv account. I just want to use it for the gameday audio and other features. Thanks for the help.
Haven't tried it on the nook or kindle, I installed the free version (and have a premium subscription) on my touchpad and nexusS, free version is fine unless you don't have a sub.

I Have used it for videos and news, etc. have not tried gameday audio. That was on CM7.
Lite and Full are the same software, having a mlb.tv subscription opens up all the features of the lite version.
Lite without a sub, is just the stats package.
Full without a sub gives you audio and 1 free game (random team) a day.
Audio works great. Video is decent. Stats package is the same as on iOS.
After getting a tip about moboplayer I downloaded it, wow what a difference. I can actually play Avi files that are 720p and encoded at high profile, simply awesome.

Can anyone else confirm this?

It's another ffmpeg-based (i.e. software) player. Chinese origin. Looks suspiciously like Rockplayer. Changelog, if to be believed, indicated that most development took little over a month. Google search on 'moboplayer' turns up no track record, just a list of low-quality links. OP behaves like a spambot. My opinion, let someone else be the guinea pig.
Comparison:
http://moboplayer.com/moboplayer_en.html
http://rockplayer.freecoder.org/index_en.html
There are a few users over on this thread also claiming it works well and they have more than 1 post for those worried about spambots
I'm always amazed at some's carefree attitude of trying new software. It's as if the notion of malware simply doesn't exist in their world. But hey, somebody has tried it, and he has more than a few posts, so I'm sure it must be OK.
And FREE, too! What a deal, eh?
after the recent virus raid on the marketplace I'm a little skeptical about this app. It seems too good to be true.
....................
Tried this on my CM7 Galaxy S and it looks like a fancier version of the Rockplayer.
720P still either stutters badly when using software mode or the video plays fine but no sound on hardware mode (identical to the Rockplayer).
I can assure you I am not a spam bot. File was an Avi encoded at high profile 3.1, played perfecly throughout. Just trying to help others out, jesus people jump all over everyone on this forum, hostile much?

been using moboplayer for a few weeks already. I like it, it plays some stuff that rockplayer cant.
And an fyi for anyone who cares out there, rockplayer would not play this file.

Anyone else using moboplayer know if it is true that the non version will not function in xoom? I am currently using medium build.

Sorry to be a bit of a skeptic here, but if you go to the Android Market and you look at the reviews for this app all but one of them is dated April 1. That's an odd coincidence.
And what holiday falls on April 1?
just tried it, its totally just rockplayer but it has engrish, doesn't work as well, and just seems overall shady. Vitalplayer works OK but rockplayer is still definately the best as of right now.
I have been using moboplayer for a couple days and its the only player that plays everything i through at it with no problems. ( MAKE SURE YOU USE THE MEDIUM VERSION AND NOT THE NEON VERSION)
They just released an updated version on there website today.
http://moboplayer.com/moboplayer_en.html
Rockplayer constinatly force closes on me.
If this is for real, then why are the download links non-functional?
It's for real. I just put it on my Xoom and my Evo. Runs really well. It does seem to be a rockplayer clone, but runs slightly better for me, and has a nice interface for a media library. Perhaps the site was updating with the latest version in regards to links being nonfunctional. I just downloaded 2 diff versions about 30min ago.

I updated mine earlier today from the website. I just checked and i see the Neon version sends you to the Android market and the the others are not available. Could be they took them down because of it being published on the Market now.
I also like how you can change the color of the UI.
OK it is for real. Was able to install it from the Market, and then upgrade from inside the app to the Non-Neon version. Good video player, with HD video that has been transcoded for the XOOM. But, otherwise performance doesn't appear any different than Rockplayer. High Proflile MKV's play with choppy video and no sound. Will experiment more with it in the morning.
Just got my T mobile Note 4 loving it except that my Note 2 could play all of my video files. Were my Note 4 I get unsupported audio codec. File will play but no sound. Note 4 missing AC3 codec like Note 3. Will the fix for Note 3 work for the Note 4?
3rd party app like "mx player" plays files that the native video player can't.
Haven't tried the n3 fix.
Not any more. Look at recent reviews in play store on mx player. No AC3 codec anymore people are complaining about it. The Note 3 had the same problem and members of xda fixed the stock video player by adding a couple of lines to media_codecs.xml file located in /etc. Does anyone know if this is possible for Note 4?

You're right mx player no longer works. Even tried installing their custom codec.
Downloaded kmplayer instead and is working fine with ac3.

I got MX player to work with a custom codec zip. Might want to look into it. Can't remember which thread I got it from.

VLC is great for MKV and everything in between. No issues with any file types that I have tried, AVI, MP4, MOV, ETC...

That's great but I don't want to use any third party apps. I want to make my default video player able to play ac3. Just like the Note 3 was able to fix the issue.

Then you would need to nod the Samsung video player and a lot of coding to get your results.

I used that back in the day then it got annoying when flashing roms so I used the third party app. I know note 4 handles things differently you would have to do it manually. If it works.

Honestly I not sure if it even works. May not that code was written for what is now an old outdated screen.

BAD ASS NOTE 4[/QUOTE,
This is the code used for the Note 3.
<MediaCodec name="OMX.SEC.ac3.dec" type="audio/ac3" > <Quirk name="needs-flush-before-disable" /> <Quirk name="decoder-ignores-streamcorrupt-error" /> </MediaCodec>
AC3 is audio codec. Video plays fine just no sound. Get unsupported audio format.
This was the code they used for Note 3. On your note 4. The file is located in /etc the name of file is "media_codecs.xml" if you have es file open file as text you can read it or edit it. The code looks the same I'm not rooted yet or I would have already tried this save an original copy of file in a different directory then edit file with es. This way if it doesn't work you have you just copy original back into /etc. If you want to try let me know? I'll walk you through it it's really easy to edit the file.
