Hello Guys,
I'm stuck with this issue. My Nook HD+ cannot connect to the Wifi hotspot of my phone. It keeps saying "Obtaining IP.." and then disconnected, and then obtaining IP again . I tried to change the encryption methods, WPA to WEP, even no encryption but it didn't help. Connection to other devices (routers) is fine. Anyone has the same problems? I am using CM10.1 version 08/01
This is usually an authentication failure.
Have you connected any other devices thru your smartphone and has success???
The hotspot app must have both a network name and a pass phrase set up.
Don't use any offered defaults: enter a new network name and a decently secure WPA pass phrase.
I use FoxFi on my Droid Razr and that app uses WPA2 only.
Then all you have to do is select the correct network and enter the pass phrase on your Nook.

My school has campus-wide wifi that is encrypted using 802.1x enterprise encryption and I can't get my N1 to connect to it. Under the wifi settings the network shows up in range, but it shows up as a WEP wifi connection which isn't the case. I can manually add a connection and choose 802.1x and configure it as it should in order to connect, however when I do that it shows up at the bottom of the list as "Not in range, remembered" despite the fact that the SSID of the same name still shows up as that incorrect WEP encrypted connection.
Has anyone successfully connected to a 802.1x encrypted connection using their N1?
Do you need to install a security cert?
My N1 doesn't arrive until tomorrow, and I haven't tried connecting to my current school's wireless network. My last school had enterprise security, and I had to install a certificate on my laptop, and special software on my Windows mobile.
If no one else gets back to you, I'll see if I can screw around tomorrow evening.
Some googlin' brought up some maybe relevant info:

I am using a stock Nexus One on Android 2.2. I got it running by entering the following (be sure to 'FORGET' the SSID that automatically comes up in favour of manually creating it) at 'Settings' >> WiFI:
EAP method: (I can choose b.w. PEAP, TLS or TTLS) and I choose PEAP
CA certificate: no choice … merely shows in brackets (unspecified)
User certificate: (unspecified)
Identity: (I enter) [MY-USERNAME, e.g., [email protected]]
Anonymous identity: (leave blank)
Password: [MY_PASSWORD]
Our university relies on WPA2/EAP/MS-CHAP .... but in our case putting the entire username did the trick.
I believe the Android 2.1 UI is deficient and will not let you enter the above, and from what I have read those who have 'rooted' their phone (and voided their warranty) have placed something like the following wpa_supplicant.conf file in /etc/wifi :
##### wpa_supplicant configuration file template #####
update_config=1
ctrl_interface=eth0
eapol_version=1
ap_scan=1
fast_reauth=1
Network={
ssid="MY_SSID"
key_mgmt=IEEE8021X
eap=PEAP
phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"
identity="MY_USERNAME"
password="MY_PASSWORD"
}
Some have mentioned that any certificate (e.g., Thawte) should be .p12 configuration and placed in the root directory of the SD Card. The best info for those who want to 'root' their Nexus one is Joe Levi's commentary at: http://pocketnow.com/tweaks-hacks/video-flashing-froyo-on-your-nexus-one
But as I stated, I have mine running the Net locally, and just need the proxy turned off by the uni. to get out.
Hope this helps.
I'm having the same issue at work. It appears as a WEP network and adding it as 802.1x says the network is not in range.
I'll give that wpa_supplicant.conf hack a go later.
I solved this issue, with the WiFi Advanced Config Editor (available in the marketplace)
my WIFI is 802.1x, with PEAP,MSCHAP v2
connect to the listed wifi with wep enabled, use any password
then modify the configuration with the WiFi Advanced Config Editor set as 802.1x, PEAP, MSCHAP v2, set user identity and password remove and remove any WAP settings
a enjoy
In my case, i have ICS 4.0, i try all suggestions above, but not work.
Someone can help me? Please
I read a lot of threads around wifi issues and all seems to round up on dhcp settings.
What I see is that dhcp settings are not involved in the problem but I see that if I try to connect to a WPA2 protected network I have problems.
If I change the network settings to WEP or free, the tablet get authenticated in a second!
Does anyone else encountered the same problem?
I've got four WPA2 networks defined and the Tab connects to all four w/o any issue. What sort of difficulty are you seeing?

Not with all WPA2 network I can't get the tab connected.
In my home dlink wireless I have problems. Sometimes tab gets connected in one second but for the major number of attempts I have tab trying to connects without success... all what I see is "connecting". I think it's not a dhcp issue because I don't see "obtaining IP address" in those cases so I think it's in loop on authentication stage.
Also, I tried to change encryption method to WEP on dlink network and the tablet gets connected every time in one second, not more...

So, basically, I got my note yesterday (wooo ) and i wanted to connect it to my wifi, which with previous phones has not been an issue and is not an issue for any other device in the house.
It keeps saying Authenticating ----> Disconnecting -----> Disabled.
I am unsure whether it is the router or the phone.
any help is appreciated!
thanks
Oliver
what encryption you using on the router? are you using 2.4ghz of 5ghz ? made sure the password is correct?
mine connects without any issue to my superhub
i am using 2.4ghz and the password is correct...
what encryption?
what channel is it broadcasting on?
WPA auto and im not sure what channel, sorry.
its on to auto seek the best channel
got any other wireless devices to test?
might want to set it to wpa2 and change the password on the router then try connecting again
Cheers! changing to wpa2 has let me connect =D
Hi! I'm trying to connect my friend's Razr i to our university wifi network. The configuration is: 802.11 EAP TLS, using a client certificate and a username, no password. The issue is that when I set up the connection and choose TLS as the security protocol, the settings are not saved correctly. In fact, after the connection fails, when I choose modify network, the security protocol has "magically" changed to AKA. I'm going crazy, I have already tried the Leap wifi app suggested in the Razr forum, but it only allows me to connect to networks with a password.
After rebooting, the network seems to be correctly saved but it just won't connect, it stays "Connecting..." for a few seconds then suddenly stops. That's it.
Thank you in advance.
Finally got it to work after messing around with all the settings. It's still buggy but it connects at least. I just can't figure out what could I have changed to make it work.

SM-N910T3. Maximum OvrDriVE MM v1.2 (Android 6.0.1, N910TUVU2EP3)
Since this ROM was flashed on my phone, I've always used the "built in" T-Mobile hotspot app. I'm on the 10GB family share. I am not over my data cap. No unlimited tether mods, or anything like that. Just rooted with OvrDriVE rom. Nothing has changed since it was flashed in August 2016.
I use tether maybe once or twice a month in emergency situations.
Tried to connect to my work laptop, and the PC (Win 10 Dell Tablet) does see the hotspot, connects just fine, gets a DHCP assigned IP address but "no internet." If I try to ping google.com I get an immediate error. So did the normal windows stuff, restart the computer, flush DNS cache, etc. IPV6 disabled and re-enabled. No change. "Forgot" the network in WIndows, thinking something about the encryption has changed, or something. No dice. So I tried my personal laptop. Same thing. Connects, gets IP, no internet what so ever. I thought maybe it's an issue with T-Mobile's DNS servers, so I leave the device IP DHCP, but change DNS server to google's 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4. Still nothing. Tried a computer that has never connected to the hotspot before. Same thing. Gets an internal IP address, but cannot connect to the internet.
Only thing I've done is wipe dalvik/cache but that did nothing. I don't have a recent backup to restore to. I haven't found the hotspot app in Application Manager, as I want to wipe data/cache for that specific app and see if that helps.
Anybody have any ideas? Or what I can do to get more information about where it is failing?
EDIT: Thought maybe i was a T-Mobile network error. When starting the hotspot, I get the popup saying "verifying you account information" and do not get any errors. It has not been working for about 4 days now so I'd think it it was an internal T-Mobile issue it'd be resolved by now, or I'd see posts from others saying it wasn't working.
So this evening I downloaded the ol' tried and true "WiFi Tether Router" and configured it per the apps' recommendations for the Note 4. That doesn't work at all, can never see the SSID of the hotspot on any computer.
try to switch your frequency of your hotspot from 4 or 5. something to 2.4 im pretty sure under hotspot settings that is my only guess.
No effect. This is just the AP mode, whether 2.4GHz or 5GHZ. As I stated the PC connects to the phone fine, gets an IP address. Something with the routing or DNS is failing. I think it goes beyond DNS as typing in a URL's IP address also doesn't work.
