WPA2 issue - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I read a lot of threads around wifi issues and all seems to round up on dhcp settings.
What I see is that dhcp settings are not involved in the problem but I see that if I try to connect to a WPA2 protected network I have problems.
If I change the network settings to WEP or free, the tablet get authenticated in a second!
Does anyone else encountered the same problem?

I've got four WPA2 networks defined and the Tab connects to all four w/o any issue. What sort of difficulty are you seeing?

Not with all WPA2 network I can't get the tab connected.
In my home dlink wireless I have problems. Sometimes tab gets connected in one second but for the major number of attempts I have tab trying to connects without success... all what I see is "connecting". I think it's not a dhcp issue because I don't see "obtaining IP address" in those cases so I think it's in loop on authentication stage.
Also, I tried to change encryption method to WEP on dlink network and the tablet gets connected every time in one second, not more...

[Q] Rooted Nook on BN 1.1 Wifi Issues

Ok, running a rooted (with Autonooter 3.0) and BN ver 1.1.
For some reason, the Nook keeps dropping the wifi connection. I have several other devices, phones, computers, and none of them are dropping the connection. It just tells me obtaining IP and then stops, with connection unsuccessful. No other problems at all, it works great, when it works! Any help is appreciated.
Wrong forum. Post in the General forum next time. Have you searched? Your question may have been asked / answered before. Just checking.
I'd also like to know the answer to this.
My NC works with my wifi at home perfectly, but simply cannot connect to the wifi at my office. Another employee here has an ipad that connects to our wifi just fine...
Tdogg,
I had exact same situation. Nook Color 1.1, autonooter 3.0 and would drop about 5 minutes into using the wifi. Had to restart the wifi all the time so was annoying.
Was hard to track down but I read another forum that the NC wifi does not like WPA/WPA2 AES. I checked my router and I have WPA/WPA2 TKIP and AES set for some reason (this was default on the d-link router). I then changed the setting to TKIP and I don't get any dropouts now.
Hoping this works for you so see how you go.

Are you sure? According to this note, changing from TKIP to AES fixed it..

Rechecked my settings and I have set to TKIP and haven't had a drop since. I got the TKIP tip from here which made me try it:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20101227165613AAl4TFk
For OP, basically try in the router settings either and see how it goes.
I have a router running Tomato, set to WPA/WPA2 Personal, TKIP. Autonooted B&N 1.1.0.
The wi-fi connection is stable as long as the screen is on. After some number of minutes with the screen off, when I unlock it the wi-fi shows as "unsuccessful" and it does not show my router (or any network at all) in the network list anymore. I end up having to toggle off and on in order to get back on.
From what I have gathered it does vary from router to router, but there are some consistencies to think about.
1) WEP seems to be the best option. I was on TKIP before and went strait to WEP and have had no issues since. I tried AES but some devices wouldn't connect with AES for some reason.
2) A mixed b/g or similar wireless signal from the router seems to cause some conflicts with the NC. If you can switch it to only broadcast G then that might work.

Cannot connect to wifi router

hello guys.
My HD7 cannot connect to wifi router. After putting in the password, it keeps trying to connect and after one min throws an error that sorry couldnot connect to the wifi connection. I am using a simple wifi router and not any N router
Authentication type is WPEA2
Thanks in advance
I found this article ( i am not allowed to post link) which says something about a bug in HD7 and venue pro which doesnot allow them to connect to wifi. Any workaround guys
Wifi problem...
Hi,
What is your network SSID name?
I had the wifi problem with my HD7 while my network SSID name had mixed capital and lowercase characters like "GedikNet"
Try to change your network SSID name to all capital or all lowercase characters. (like "gediknet").
Good luck.
Bye.
ssid is SHARAD. still unable to connect
can't have hidden ssid
Hi, if your network is hidden, unhide it. The darn thing cannot connect to a hidden network. I know it is extreamly annoying but that is what Bill-ware gave us.
Hopefully, they will fix it in the update.
Initial connection to my home Wifi was unsuccessful. I had to restart the router and all went fine. Setup: WPA2/AES, b/g/n mixed and SSID is not hidden. It is a Linksys/Cisco device. Check your MAC filter if it blocks your device. DHCP server has to be turned on.
Regards,
Cina.
i did not have an issue with the wifi router... all i had to do is get my mac id as i filter my pc, notebook and pda by mac id..
i heard the ssid must be visible it cant connect to those hidden ones...
maybe lowering the security level will help as well..
HAVE YOU resolve the problem? i can not connect my home wifi as well.
thanks
Seen an app in the HTC hub called hidden wifi but not sure if it helps

[Q] Galaxy Can't Connect to Cisco Wireless Router

Have the Cisco Wireless router WRT160N and have tried all set-up options on the Galaxy. It finds the WPA/WPA2 network and have entered the passcode but scans and disconnects. Also tried the WPA and the passing of PINs but still no connect
Hope someone has an idea that can try
Tks
Has it ever connected to this device?
Has it ever connected to another WAP or router?
Thanks PB, the answer is "haven't tried." I just got it and trying to set-up. I am going to head out this afternoon to a hotspot and see how goes.
Samsung tech says it should be OK but Cisco want talk since warranty is out
OK, drove out and came upon an unsecured access point and it did connect so is in one of my set-up
????
I have the same router and connect with no issue. I did have problems connecting to a different Cisco router and what I did to fix it was delete all shared wireless connections then started from scratch and it worked using wpa2

WIFI issue

Hi,
I have some issue with WIFI. WIFI connection is very unstable even in 1 feet from router (Linksys WRT350N on DD-WRT 13064). It is connected very quickly and get IP address but then connection is working with very large delays (30+ seconds). If I disable and reenable WIFI adapter then it work good for some time but then it lost it again. All other devices work find with same router. I got 2 motorola BIONIC at launch day and both have WIFI issue.
Has anyone else have same issue?
Dmitry
I get slower than 3g speeds when I connect to my home Airport Extreme router.. No idea why... but my connection speed at work on our Wifi is just fine.

Mine kept disabling the wifi connection. Once I booted into recovery and reset, it was fine.
ive had issues with wifi too,got full signal but phone browser wont load anything.
I had this same problem. I hard reset using recovery but it came right back. I then did a reset using the the settings, privacy. I was able to fix the issue with the second hard reset. The only change I did was not allow Google to restore my phone from previous backup.
Goodluck.

ive tried resets, changing setting on router, still unable to get browser to load web pages with wifi.
Is this a universal issue, or do I need to go back to Verizon and get the phone replaced? Anyone have the exact answer to this?

What are the odds you have WPA with AES encryption set on your router? I have had the Droid X and Bionic fail to load pages under that setting. But as soon as I switched the encryption to TKIP it worked on both.

Looking at the encryption now under security - NONE is what I have selected...
WEP CONFIGURATION
WEP Passphrase
WEP Authentication Yes Open No Shared Key
Encryption No Enable 64-Bit No Enable 128-Bit
WPA Encryption No TKIP No AES
Group Rekey Interval 0 seconds
WPA Authentication No Remote (Radius) Yes Local (WPA-PSK)
check your wireless frequency
For those of you able to connect with no problem but still can not access any internet i read somewhere that some Droid bionics were having trouble with b/g 2.4GHz routers. If your router is b/g only then disabling WEP encryption could work. I checked and sure enough mine is only wireless b/g however WEP encryption was already disabled. The fact that it could be because its a b/g only router would explain why I have no problem getting online at my job, which just aquired a new belkin dual band router, and my school, which I have no doubt uses only dual band routers being a college. I believe normally a/n 5GHz devices are suppose to be backwards compatible with wireless b/g. The only difference being less reliable and slower connection. Best bet is get a dual band router.

[DROID3] Connec to wifi but no pages load etc (no connection) HELP!!!

I can connect to my home wifi fine, good signal and everything, but the thing is when I go to say, load a webpage, it just won't load. No matter how long you leave it.
But when I connect to a mobile hotspot Wifi from my other phone it works fine.
Could it be something to do with my router?
Thanks to anyone that try to help
What router is it?

If you have a terminal emulator on your phone, you can try to "ping" the router (most likely 192.168.something.1..)
"ping 192.168.1.1" or whatever address the router has...
This is the same address that you'd type in a browser on your PC to configure access the router's config..
And try to ping something on the Internet such as one of Google's DNS server (ping 8.8.8.8)
A few more details might help us help you:
Router brand and model?
Encryption type used (None, WEP, WPA, WPA2..)? ..WPA2 is sometimes downright broken on some router models..
Does your wireless Internet router work for another wireless device?
Does your Internet work from a wired computer on the same router?
Is the router configured for wireless g,n, or mixed? You might need to play with the router configs.

It's a NETGEAR Wireless N Router - WNR2000.
Security: WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]
Channel: Auto
All my other devices that I have used the wifi with have worked fine.
This is really annoying, I just can't think of what the problem is..
How many devices are connected to the router at any given time? Try disconnecting another device from wifi and see if that works.

Yeah when I disconnected my laptop and then connected my DROID3 it worked fine.
What is the solution to allow it for the DROID3 to work?
Your router only allows for a certain amount of connections. You will either have to turn wifi off of one of the devices or get another router.... simple solution would be to turn off wifi one of the devices when you are not using it.

Try changing the security to WPA2 with AES only - I've seen problems with Android phones in the past when both TKIP with WPA and AES with WPA2 are enabled. If you have any old devices that don't use WPA2 (unlikely), then try WPA with TKIP only. See if that fixes it.
If not, and it's a device limit issue, check the DHCP settings on the router to see what the address range is. If it is set to something like 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.xx (whatever number xx is), try extending the range to something larger (though no larger than 254, obviously) and see if that helps.
I tried it a second time and a only got connections every minute or something and it wouldn't last for very long :\
It's not a device limit issue because I have had 2+ devices connected to the wireless before.
I second switching to AES. It is more secure anyway.

Maybe try setting a static IP?

Turn off all security on the router and try again as a test.also you might need to reset your wifi connections on your phone. Try wifi fixer

Have you tried resetting the router? Power it down and then re apply the power. I know that it makes no sense that this should work, but it has fixed the problem twice on my D3.
