android <--> osx sync
Hi,
I am also looking for a solution to sync my SGS with mac osx. It seams that there are only commercial solutions at the moment. One of them is:
http://www.markspace.com/products/android/missing-sync-android.html
Kind regards

is doubletwist not available on the mac?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Doubletwist is available on the Mac but I find it very slow.
If you want iPhoto to recognize it you need to enable USB debugging in the settings so that the Mac recognises your phone as a mass storage device.
There's no solution for syncing address book and calendar other than the missing sync or using google calendar and gmail.
There's no solution for backing up and upgrading your phone as yet.

You sure? You should just need to go to settings, about phone, usb settings, ask onconnection/mass storage..
You should but it doesn't work. You need to enable USB debugging otherwise it doesn't work.
Heh, I told someone to only sync at work due to similar issues. Maybe not the answer most of you want to hear, but as long as it helps 1 person think outside the box it's worth a post, right?

That is not true, the iPhoto opens when I put galaxy to usb port and wait a moment so the memorycard/usb has connected. (never used usb debugging) My iPhoto popups automaticly after a while. and my two memorycard (internel/external) shown in desktop I use MBP mid 2009. iCal I have sync with my google account so sync between my iCal/Google calender/phone works perfect. The contact i havent try to sync with my mac because i dont need that. For the calender sync you dont need any app. Just set the setting right and it works.
If you want to sync everything and use wifi or something you should try some software for that, for example the software in previous post.
You're lucky. It doesn't work on mine. I use an iMac with Snow Leopard and everything is up to date. I've never been able to get the cards to mount without debugging enabled.
I use salling sync to sync music and video and photos

A Mac is a PC... Now go hide in your cave .
As far as what I do with syncing my Mac:
Mail.app gets my mail from GMail and through a few IMAP-servers that support the IDLE extension (basically push for standard IMAP). As long as you don't use POP3 your mail will be in sync including read/replied flags
iCal.app calendars are synced through Google
Address Book.app contacts are synced through Google
When using Mass Storage mode Aperture picks up the device just fine here and lets me add anything I need to my library so for anyone who has issues with that I'd suggest doing a factory / data reset and get a recent firmware version.
For music right now I just use the Finder. iTunes is set to organise and maintain my library which means it's all neatly organised, bagged and tagged and just requires me to drop some folders on the Galaxy S. It's not ideal, I'd rather see the device in iTunes and drag-n-drop from there...
There are two ways however that could be helpful:
TunesSync: sync iTunes with Android (paid)
iTunes2android: command-line utility over usb/adb to accomplish the same (free)

Guys, can we stop with the whole Mac vs. Windows argument. The OP is here requesting help with using his SGS with a Mac, and this kind of argument doesn't really belong here, and distracts from the OP getting his issue resolved.

Ok so I just got an email that team viewer released a beta version for android. Sorry can't post the link not enough posts. My problem is that it is a direct download through the browser. When I go to install my phone will not allow me to install because it wasn't downloaded through the app market. Is there anyway around this besides rooting my phone. I have a stock phone. The teamviewer page says this
"Installation notes
You can download and install the App using your Android web browser. Due to this direct download and installation you will have to enable the following option in Android once: Settings - Application settings - Unknown sources (enable)
I cannot find this setting. I am pretty sure that I will have to root my phone to do it I just wanted conformation. Thanks in advace for your help.
Jason
hi i dont know about the samsung devices, but on htc devices its no problem. i forgot to set the setting too. but when i try to install, there was a popup coming up with a options button, to actiavt it.
but in the normal settings menu its settings-applications- check unknown sources
i tried it out, its pretty smooth. i like it
you can download the apk from their website onto pc, then install via sideload
http://teamviewer.com/download/index.aspx#downloadAreaiPhone
so the use for this would be that i can control my desktop pc from my phone? can i transfer files and such?

On the desktop versions you can. Not sure about this beta though. Been waiting FOREVER for this though. I use TeamViewer almost exclusively, but I've been using LogMeIn cause they have an Android client. But screw them now!
Oh and btw jd1peters, AT&T has disabled that option from our phones. If you want to enable sideloading, search the forums for enabling non-market apps.
No need to root. Just download the apk and install with android sideload wonder machine.

@ OP, you're awesome for bringing this up. Been waiting for this forever 8)
edit: anybody else getting the error" connection failed because your partner's Teamviewer is too old. Version 6 or higher is required to connect." There isn't even a version 6 on the desktop client.
second edit: looks like they have the v6 beta for computer clients on their website.

Yeah, you can control your desktop from your phone. IMO Teamview is one of the fastest and easiest ways to connect two computers together, all you need is the client software installed. So much less of a headache than going through and setting up the numerous VNC programs available.
As a quick note, one really important setting on the Android side is whether to optimize for speed or quality. I think it defaults to automatic, but depending what you're trying to do, you may want to set it to be one way or the other to improve performance.
I was looking on LG Support website and i found this program: OSP(On-Screen Phone)

I tried it out. It runs ok but it lags some
Of course its gonna lag some. Its mirroring the screen. The note 3 does the same. Cool feature but needs some tuning

This could be good for youtube tutorials. Show pc side and phone.

Any help?
What is the best app for Android to Windows 10 PC connectivity? MS Your Phone, AirDroid?
The features of Your Phone or AirDroid look fine but are there more robust ways to connect and work with my phone during the business day?
Are any of the TeamViewer products good at this?
Samsung Sidesync used to be good but the new version is very stripped down.
Have now switched to Dell Mobile Connect. Works very well, and has all features - notifications, mirroring, calling and texting, document drag and drop.

samsung flow works good between my S3 tab, SB2 and GN9. give that a try.
Dell mobile connect is great. Phone companion is great as well.
You could also have a look at vysor.. works over wifi aswell as wired
But pro version needed for all features
I'm looking for a good PC <-> Android Sharing app too (mostly for sharing link, text, files etc) . I used to use Pushbullet but ever since they went "Pro" the free version is useless.
Try Your Phone Connection by Microsoft if you have a Windows PC
Vysor seems really cool, especially if can do over wifi
Is it the best of that type (literally an emulator of your phone in a window)?
Android File Transfer?
Simple & reliable.....
WiFi File transfer Pro. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smarterdroid.wififiletransferpro&hl=pl easy to use and i have this for long time now.
I Found an app called "Join" (by Joaoapps the Tasker app developer). So far seems very good...
Can I make calls with Note 9 and Your phone on Windows 10 with bluetooth dongle?

My Phone Explorer is the best I've found
https://www.fjsoft.at/en/
I have an Airdroid subscription, but lately I use Join.
I havent seen any better app than KDE connect/GSConnect
I started using File Manager by Mobile Clean System Lab. I feel like I get a lot of ads on it, but I just BACK out of those.
With it, there's an option to start a FTP server, which I do. Prior to this, you have to have your Wi-Fi turned on, and connected to the same network as your Windows 10 PC. Then, on your Windows 10 PC, you navigate to your phone's IP address (preceded with "ftp://") to view your phone's folders (i.e. ftp://192.168.1.23:2211, where 2211 is the default port number). I still haven't figured out how to navigate to the MicroSD Card, and I'm not sure there is a way without root. Basically, though, you would use Windows Explorer to navigate to this window, and then open up another instance of Windows Explorer to Copy To/From files.
Mind you, this solution works for me, from home. Not sure how it would function within a business environment, considering you'd have less control over port access/firewall settings.
I know the Store has shut down since last 2 months and most of the Microsoft services for Windows Phone are already dead or cut off. We all know that we can no longer download and install apps in the Store and now we depend on cracked and/or deployable XAP files and APPX/Bundle files on the Internet. But can we share our "surviving" installed marketplace apps thru one app? Like maybe making an ALTERNATE store for WP...
Well, Microsoft would (maybe) not care if we do this since Windows Phone is dead so why not give it a try? Sharing our installed apps (by extracting it from their Installation Folder and zipping it/recompile it) to others would help a lot, especially for users who don't have time to bother buying a new non-Windows smartphone.
Also can someone make or share a "Tap the tile to lock phone screen" app? I desperately need one because my power button is broken.
I would share my installed software if I would know how to retrieve them.

You can (for XAP files) using this method from this YT video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buWOsHd6jdg
The method works for SD card apps.
For Internal, boot phone into Mass Storage Mode (you need to root your phone using WPI). Then, in your PC, go to MainOS > Data > PROGRAMS. Copy either everything or a specific app (via GUID), and do as what the video also show how.
For APPX or APPXBundle apps, go to WINDOWSAPPS folder whilst in PROGRAMS (internal) or WPSystem\Apps (SD) directory. Then, copy the app files.
For APPX, those without any similar names of the app.
For APPXBundle, those with similar names of the app plus the cpu architectures "arm", and "neutral" (there may be two more of those "neutral" ones, but join them also).
Then create (on your PC) a self-signed certificate, pack each package (for APPXBundle, pack them app but put into a seperate folder so that they wont join in the others), sign them one by one, (for APPXBundle, pack them into a bundle, and sign them (again? idk)), and your done.
To check if they're deployable, i recommend deploying them one by one on an emulator or on a separate device. If you deploy one but fails, the tendency of the app with the same app GUID installed on your phone being uninstalled is high.
I know many people still using Wp 8.1 and still need install App for Wp, but Store closed. Waiting for help ! Can some great devoloper do that ? Sorry my bad English !

use android :good:
Did anyone try to look how far we can get in replicating the original App Store's backend? Might hit a road block sooner or later with signing etc., but I was surprised to see at least the initial communication is HTTP only:
Code:
GET /v9/catalog/storePages?typeId=DynamicHub.Main&os=8.10.15148.0&cc=DE&lang=de-DE&hw=520190980&dm=RM-984_1001&oemId=NOKIA&moId=&cf=99-1&Flight=&SEG0=%3B&SEG1=&SEG2=&SEG3=&SEG4=&SEG5=&optedOut=true HTTP/1.1
Connection: Keep-Alive
Accept: */*
Accept-Encoding: gzip
User-Agent: ZDM/4.0; Windows Mobile 8.1
X-WP-Client-Config-Version: 81001
X-WP-Device-ID: ******
MUID: *******
X-WP-StorePage-Cookie: *******
Host: cdn.marketplaceedgeservice.windowsphone.com
That request then times out after a while since it goes via akamai and probably tries to hit backend servers that no longer exist (504 Gateway Time-out).
Unfortunately I never captured the traffic while the store was still working, so the question is how to figure out what to reply to this.
