I have been working on finding a fix for XBMC crashing on the Xoom and I think I have found it. See last post on this thread at xbmcandroid: http://www.xbmcandroid.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5599

Does it seem random or when you do a particular thing? I am running eos 3 on my xooms but ran stock jb for a bit on one and worked ok. Also make sure the apk installed correctly. You will probably have to uninstall the old one first.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
Just generally using it.
Closes about 2 mins into using it.
Are you sure it installed OK? I get a failed install unless I uninstall the old one.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
Yes i uninstalled the other one i had and yours installed fine.
That is odd. I put eos 4 on my test Xoom and not crashing on me. Could you check under xbmc settings info and check the version at the bottom? It should say compiled Aug 20 2013. Thanks.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
Yes its your 20th August version.
For some strange reason i had a mess with it today and it was much better.
What kernel are you using
I am on ElementalX Xoom v 1.2 Vanilla, i believe this is a good kernel for XBMC.
Thanks.
I use the eos kernel. Elementalx seemed to have problems with otg flash drives (titanium backup would lose the drive during a backup).

I men't to reply about your xmbc built last week but forget to, Iv'e been using xmbc12.2C build that force close on occasion but your built never FC and your interface is much better than the original, The only problem i see is when playing 720p file it stutter....
Installed this yesterday on my MZ601. So far only one force close. It's the best XBMC for XOOM I've seen so far. The only problem is the stuttering when playing 720p movies and sometimes DVD.
Thanks for sharing this.
Cheers!
stuttering when playing mp3 but no FC.
EOS 4 Everest 170.
The FC has stopped, runs great now.
If you improve it more for 720p playback can you please post the apk :good:
Many thanks.
Glad to hear no more crashes. The stuttering is due to no hardware decoding. I am trying to get that working but no good solution for all files/streams yet.

I made another build that should help with 720p videos. It uses the custom ndk by kemonine... not sure if it does much for speed. But I also modifed the playercorefactory.xml so that it uses MXPlayerFree for almost all streaming and local files, Archos Video Player (Free) for windows shares (samba) since MXPlayer doesn't support network shares, and DVDPlayer for rtmpe (encrypted rtmp) so that the BlueCops Hulu plugin plays.
To get the new playercorefactory you will need to uninstall old version of XBMC. You will also have to have Archos Player free and MXPlayer free versions installed... and setup (run them once). Link to new version: http://www.mediafire.com/download/nx3sf39brucufr2/xbmcapp-armeabi-v7a-debug-2013-09-01.apk

I've just tested the new .apk and unfortunately it's not working for me. It just force closes. I uninstalled the previous version before the new installment. My ROM is TEAM EOS 4.0 umts_everest 170 build with Crossbreeder enabled.
Cheers!
Did the previous version work for you? Does xbmc fc on startup? I don't know what cross breeder is or if it would make any difference. The only thing I can think of is that the optimized for tegra ndk by kemonine is slightly older and may not support the newer os. I use eos3 but can try eos 4. If that is the problem...will need to go back to non optimized ndk.
OK, tested on eos4 and doesn't start. Research shows that the ndk modified for tegra 2 doesn't work past android 4.1. I am trying to build with newest ndk so will be awhile before new version is up. Meanwhile you could use the older version with the new playerfactory to see if that helps.

The new build not working for me also, It force close ....
Older ndk won't work with android 4.2. Will rebuild with new version.

Meanwhile here is the new playercorefactory.xml. You can replace the one in the older version of xbmc I built.... http://www.mediafire.com/view/a7299zyf9sa0n52/playercorefactory.xml

We just updated the version in the Android market to v0.73. Amongst many other things, this should fix up landscape mode and make it a bit more sensible to use on the Xoom.
Give it a go and let us know what you think!
Allan (of the Skifta team).
Twonky works. I have a media server and I am able to access video from several devices including the Xoom using Twonky. The thing with video is what type it is. I find avi has less issues. MP4 can be tricky.
I use it with PlayOn and Vortexbox as my backends and the new version with tablet support is exactly what I have been waiting for! Nice job!
I have been using it since I got my Xoom to stream from my xbmc box. It has worked pretty well for me. My only suggestion is to make sure and exit out of the app when you are done or it will murder your battery.

To be honest, I didn't notice much difference performance-wise. However, I like the layout of Moboplayer, feels like it is better optimized for Honeycomb.

yea i had too many FC's with rockplayer...its not HC optimized yet....moboplayer works great
i love how it saves where you left off on multiple videos
I find moboplayer generally outperforms rockplayer although the latest releases of both are very similar. Where rockplayer has an advantage is if you use UPnPlay to access network shares. If Mobo runs into something it can't play it will crash to the home screen. Rockplayer will usually just play with glitches rather than crashing so you can back out to the menu page and save time.
Moboplayer has been my preference even on phones, but recently I've tried playing 720p avi files and it can play it fine, but fast forwarding is murder

Try the tegra2-optimized version of rockplayer, very smooth with no FC. Make sure you use the hardware acceleration for maximum performance.

Bumping this.
Any luck yet?
I can stream audio but get the white screen of doom. Also I'm in Canada so the fact that the .apk works at all and lists all the programs available AND keeps track of my progress was quite a surprise.
Have tried almost every version of the netflix.apk out there as well as the netflix (fix) libraries for the thunder. Still no luck.
Rocking Hd revolution 1.0.1 btw. I have heard vague whispered rumors of Cyanogen7 IncS's being able to rock netflix, any truth?

Take libstagefrighthw.so from this post. Put it in /system/lib. I did not use the file to flash in recovery. Maybe you can.
Take the latest official Netflix from this thread. Maybe any of the Netflix mods will work, though.
Working for me on ARHD 1.1.1 w/ Sense 3 addon. Should work on any Gingerbread ROM, even stock.
I've found out so far that weather animations within the weather app don't work. Weather animations after unlocking the phone still work.
Netflix APK 1.3.0 that came out on July 20 has official compatibility for Droid Incredible 2, which works for Incredible S.
Hi:
Just an FYI, whether you get 4.3 on the original Nexus 7 or on the new one, most video players won't work--Dice Player, VLC, MX etc. don't work. Fortunately, Vplayer, free, does. The only one for the time being.

I have BS working for now, not a patch on MX Player in my opinion. Waiting for the update.
This is probably MX Player's biggest problem. The developer for it is extremely slow to respond. Considering the money has had made off the app, you'd think he'd be a bit quicker about it.

+1 - this nightly of VLC is the only app I can find following updating to Jellybean 4.3 that will play 720p MKVs with AC3 audio as smooth as MX Player does on 4.2.2.
getting error code when trying to install it
Which VLC nightly should be used on N7 v4.3? They list V6Arm with FPU, V6ARM no FPU, and V7ARM.
I used the v7 (VLC-debug-20130726-1426.apk specifically) which works fine.

Right. CM10.1 (in fact all ICS/JB builds) don't support .avis by default (not entirely sure why). Have you tried alternative video apps (and codecs if you need them)? When I used JB roms using other apps played my .avis fine...
