[Q] HTC One Verizon Version ? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm a bit confused. Verizon carries the HTC One, but I don't see it listed separately here in the forums, or on the CyanogenMod listing of supported devices anywhere. Is this because it's not got enough users/developers on that network or am I missing something?
I'm considering purchasing the phone but I am concerned that I won't be able to root/ROM the thing.
Can someone clarify this for me?
Thanks!

There is a separate forum. Where are you looking? Click the Home icon and then Newest Devices.
Edit: It appears HTC is now blocking unlocking via htcdev. That was fast.

Weird
I am not sure where I was looking before. I do see it though.
I see now that it was also just released on Thursday. I suppose I should wait a bit for the folks over at CM to get it ported over there, shouldn't I?
Thanks!

It's a bit academic since they don't have root yet. There is a CM port for those lucky folks who were able to unlock on launch day, but it's a WIP at the moment.

Assuming the soak test hasn't started and they run for a week, that probably means mid to late December, but still by the end of 2012 like they originally promised.

I'll take it whenever! I've been too paranoid to load the leak, and I'm an SS3 N00B so preserving root with voodoo (maybe) and installing the OTA is fine with me! I'm pretty cool with no root for a little while anyways, I'm sure someone will find an exploit in the JB framework...

Yes i'm VERY Happy to see I will be seeing Jelly Bean before the end of the year. I think AFTER that is when i'll think about rooting the phone so I can get rid of all the damn AT&T bloatware on there.
I am pretty computer savvy and i've built several of my own computers over the years but the thought of rooting the phone kind of intimidates me because I know almost NOTHING about the process and I still as yet have to see a clear thread that says "This is how you do it, This is how you undo it" in case something goes wrong with the phone that's not software related and it needs to be returned or whatnot.
Also there are alot of threads about custom rom versions but they say you need to have the "base" 4.1.1 version first which again i'm a bit lost at trying to sift thru all the forum posts to find. Heh.
P.S. Annnnnndddd...i'm a retard. Somehow right after I made this post when it went back to the post list page for this forum now right there in my face is a post titled "Jellybean rom leak - step by step guide for updating" LMAO.
I do have a more pertinent question of someone with some know how here though also. I saw that Moto has started selling the developer version of this phone which i'm assuming has an unlocked bootloader as from what I understand that is kind of the point of the developer version. So I am curious, once someone has this developer phone will that make it easier for someone to develop something that is easier/faster/more stable to root for us poor schmucks who can't afford the 400+ duckets this phone is costing and also since we already have the phone to begin with?

Yea which is kind of sad considering. I mean it seems to me the only really bad thing about this phone i've found from using it is the lack of much user ROM and the stupid low Mah battery they put in it when the one from the Maxx will fit almost equally as well, and would have fit perfectly if the phone had been developed around it. <sigh>
It seems from the # of forum posts that the Galaxy S III is pretty much "THE" phone to have. I have a friend who just got one a month after I got my Atrix and she likes it well enough, but I can't understand what idiot at samsung decided it was a good idea to leave out USB Mass Storage on the thing, although i've heard that's getting officialy fixed, or may have been already since I don't really follow that phone.
The phone I upgraded from was an old Samsung with a physical slide out keyboard before the android days and the thing was junk to me, about all it was good for was texting because my fat fingers worked well with the physical keys. But almost all the apps on it were useless junk and alot never even ran. So i'm kind of burned out on Samsung right now.
I've been in computers for years and have learned to trust Motorola for reliability and stability and while their products have not always been hugely inspired or innovative, they have always been reliable to me.
I had thought I saw one of the people who seemed to be doing development for this phone in a message say they already had a developer phone on order or whatnot. But maybe it was just my wishful thinking. In any case I hope this phone dosnt die some slow horrible death in here just because it's not as bright and shiny and full of awesomeness as some other phones out now. Once the Jellybean update officially comes out for the phone hopefully there will still be good people in here who can easily make the phone rootable and that will pretty much be good for me for the 2 years till AT&T says I can get the next shiny new toy out then. LOL. Custom roms are nice but i'm mostly interested in being able to get rid of all the AT&T crapware in the phone because it's pretty much just useless spacewaste to me.
Itll come out December 31st

I was disappointed when I saw Bell wouldn't get it until Q1 '13. I have a Bell Atrix HD, but I use it on T-mobile. Could someone explain to me why an AT&T ROM would brick the phone? I don't get it.

If you have a locked bootloader each partition is signature checked for your device and region/carrier. Bell files will brick ATT phones and vice versa thanks to locked bootloaders.

I really can't speak to the OTA, but I've read that those who installed the JB leak had success with Voodoo Root Keeper. It worked for me when the RAZR got ICS finally... I am just assuming that it will work when we get the OTA.

I saw on your other thread where you tested the various methods to root the Atrix HD that you mentioned rooting might take you off the OTA path. Do you mean to say that if I use motofail2go to root the phone, there is a chance that I may not be able to get the OTA update to JB when it rolls out?
Thanks.

[Q] Root Verizon 4.4.2?

I've been looking around for a while now and can be very skeptical about certain ones I've come across. But is there a trusted root out for Verizon 4.4.2, and if so could I get a link to it. I don't know much about rooting but it looks very interesting and I would like to mess around with it. Thanks.

No. There is currently no way to root an X that has a locked bootloader. That includes Verizon, ATT, and others.
This is covered in many threads already, including some recently started ones.
Here are some I found quickly just by scrolling through the thread listing in this Q&A section....

Zenfone 2 laser (ze551kl) Root

There isn't much talk here about the zenfone 2 laser and everything all info I can find on XDA and other websites about routing the ZF2L seem to be registered to the non US version or discuss only the non laser version.
XDA forum has post for joining the WhatsApp group, but I'm not seeing the point of joining a phone app for a phone that I am going to be rebooting while looking to troubleshoot things with the phone. Maybe they have a solution, and if so post it up here as well as a link.
Has anyone made any headway with rooting this device? Let's get a single thread to focus efforts on getting a workable root for the ZE551kl US version of the Zenfone 2 laser.
It sure would be nice to rid this device of all that bloatware.
I'll be checking back here for good news I hope soon.
Same here. Placing my order soon, and this is the ZF2L model that I want.
I've been poking around for information about the ze551kl also. Mine came yesterday. So far it doesn't seem like anyone is working on root for it yet, but that's probably due to the fact that not very many people own one. The good news is it has been selling out on Amazon and Newegg, so hopefully someone will be able to figure it out soon.
From everything I've gathered so far, the process to root it should be nearly identical to the ze550kl since the hardware is so similar. I imagine that once someone who knows what they're doing looks at it, they'll be able to figure it very easily.
Also, Asus will likely release a bootloader unlocking tool at some point in the coming months. The unlocker for the ze551ml was released sometime around 6 months after the phone came out.

Asus will only release the bootloader unlock when someone from xda discovers it.
Selling out doesn't mean more ownership. Chances are they are only selling a few units to test the waters.

Picked one up yesterday for my pop's. I, too, am hoping that a root may be possible in the near future. I don't like the bloatware and the OS at all. Wish I can slap CM on it.
Subscribed to thread. I hope something turns up eventually. Phone seems very fluid but it comes with loooooots of extra apps, hoping for a CM build soon.
I'm getting exceptional battery life with factory rom- 60% left at end of day yesterday- thats 2 days with same results. Imagine what could happen without bloat! So far- I love this device.
same here ... want root access lol
---------- Post added at 10:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:17 PM ----------
found only ZE550KL images that give root, but it doesn't exactly work fine on ZE551KL (touchscreen issues due to different density)
http://www.asus-zenfone.com/2015/10/how-to-root-asus-zenfone-2-laser-ze550kl.html
any ideas?
I bought the phone today. It is very fast and fluid.
waiting for good news to obtain root access.
any way to change the green color of the icon of the sim 1?
phone itself is great, I like it so far, but ... I noticed the stock firmware (5.0 still here) the push notifications do not work ever for apps like CNN news, BBC news, UPS delivery manager, not sure yet what blocks them still, I even made sure to allow them auto-start in asus manager thingy.
Also Google Calendar widget doesn't refresh current date, content gets updates, not the date on it lol, ASUS messed up something in stock firmware or some bloatware is interfering.
Also it kinda sucks that phone's wifi card doesn't support 5GHz band at all and no 802.11AC speeds ... my old Samsung Galaxy S3 could run 5GHz band, this one can't.
oh, but I love the LTE speeds now, got almost 50/28 Mbps here around NYC through T-mobile.
Other than that, I love it, I need a root too ...
Really was hoping to root this phone bummed there isn't one for this model. Hopefully someone will come along and save the day.
Following.

Thanks for the link, but that's actually for a different phone model. We are specifically looking for rooting the ze551kl (zenphone 2 laser w/1080p screen and 3GB memory.)
What I did find, is that asus has posted the kernel sourcecode for this phone model. It can be found via the support and downloads page on their site.

Forums have died?

The ONLY reason I have NOT upgraded to a 7 or 8 the locked bootloader issue. I bought by S6 Edge Tmob variant Apr 2015. Still use it. I switch a lot between International and Tmob version ROMs except since the new firmware FINALLY came out for Nougat...no ROMs posted here. So basically I have been running my own custom ROM so to speak. I'm rooted with Magisk. I currently am using a kernel posted somewhere called [email protected] #1. It allowed me to install AOD files, but even tough I have all the appropriate switches in Display settings and the various FONT clocks etc, I can't get AOD to actually show on my standby screen, so I'm missing something. I posted a thread how to install Viper with the stock rooted TMobile firmware. So basically, I for one consider myself as active as I can around here and have tried to do so ever since getting my SM-G925T over two years ago. When on MM I had faithfully been using your last 11.5 MM Edge kernel too and believe I did offer some *beer* for your efforts back when you released that final product. I for one would be more than happy to offer anything I can as far as possible testing on my device in the future. Thanks again, for your efforts too.

Totally ignorant on that app. Just googled and a quick read. Really an interesting application I intend on diving into. Appreciate the reference. Downloaded the latest version. Much appreciated.
I'm still around. However my XDA app seems to have died. It hasn't updated anything in a few weeks. Like others have said, not going for a locked bootloader. The S6 will probably be my last Samsung phone for that reason.
Been a long time since I've been on here... Thinking about rooting again. I've been out and about and gave up messing with my phone for a while, but with the new update... I'm not that impressed with Nougat.. I still love my S6 though. Is there still a root even though I've updated to Nougat?

Great to join the club!!

Hey guys! I have been scouting around for Note 8 help but thought it was time to join myself.
Hopefully if I am able to solve my specific problem or get my questions asked it can help someone else.
Specifically, right now, I picked up and refurbished a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 since I have one currently that is phenominal, and wanted one in the back pocket in case anything happens but it is locked to ATT, which isnt the real problem. The real problem is that it is still on Android 7.1.1 and I would like to get it to Android 9 Pie.
I am unsure of a few things like whether I need all updates between 7 and 9, or if I can jump straight to it. But things of that sort.
It sucks that its ATT locked but I feel its worse that its on old Android since I refurbed it, (fixed screen and replaced with fresh samsung battery) but its being held back in certain functional capabilities. Either way, I am a techy, not yet able to solder, but definitely able to troubleshoot my way around a Windows Blue screen of death.
Looking forward to learnin more!

Alright, there are two versions of firmware available for your device. One is "branded" and has carrier bloat, whereas the other does not have carrier bloat but might have issues with VoLTE (probably not, but there is a chance). What one would you prefer? Let me know if you have any questions regarding the difference.

One is "branded" and has carrier bloat, whereas the other does not have carrier bloat but might have issues with VoLTE (probably not, but there is a chance). What one would you prefer? Let me know if you have any questions regarding the difference.

Thanks for the research and yes I do have questions if its not too much of an issue:
1.) Carrier bloat is like the usual and can just be deleted anyways correct?
2.) In what scenarios (in case everything was working fine with OTA updates) would the phone have downloaded a version without bloat?
3.) Would updating to the non-bloated version cause any issues since the phone is still carrier locked?
4.) Lastly, for the firmware, would I need to download multiple updates until that point or just straight to the firmware?
If not, I can research the answers as I have been on it on and off for a month with research but other than that, you're a god send.
By the way, if #1 is true, I'll just take the bloatware no doubt just to be as safe as possible.
Thanks again for all the help @ethical_haquer
Been busy researching in the Samsung Note 8 ATT threads and I was able to find the answer to number 4 in that using Full ODIN files is a complete flash and different than just an update which requires the previous updates.
The answer to number 3 from what I have seen no. The only thing is that certain features may NOT work such as VoLTE; pretty much you already answered 3 and I was literally too dumb to see that until I started writing this message. *face palm
Question 2 is pretty much inconsequential so don't worry answering that. Its was just curiosity. But for anyone who does see this possibly, my speculation is that NO, the carrier version would never download the non-carrier version. The non-branded update is for those unlocked phones that receive over-the-air (OTA) updates that were not associated with any carrier, in other words buying a phone directly from samsung's website.
For 1, I am guessing it is "Yes" since I was able to do that in the past with all my other phones. But either way it is not a make it or break it so it doesn't matter.
I have been able to find some full ODIN files for the updates I was looking for, so will be attempting my first flash soon. Will be posting all my findings to the thread I was reading just to potentially help anyone else (though rare since this device is getting real old) who has the same questions I had and I can get them up to speed without having to search everything
Just finished flashing the ATT Note 8 to and the Answer to Number 1 is that NO, you cannot Uninstall the bloatware
Again, will post all these findings to the proper thread in after completed
Sorry for the late reply! I would try installing the firmware for the SM-N950U1 (notice the 1). It should work and won't have carrier bloat.

You're all good!
I may but I actually have to find one more update I am looking for (Full ODIN FILES). My daily driver note 8 is on N950USQS7DTE5 and it is a T-Mobile Version (though it bein g TMO is inconsequential at the moment. Just thought I might mention it).
That is the update I would like for ATT just so that I know there wont be any differences (or less differences) between my daily driver and this. This is me being picky at this point but isn't the point of life getting what you want? I found one update above that but different bootloader. So for whatever reason may happen, no going back.
What I currently flashed to was N950USQS3BRA8 so it's still on Android 7.1.1 but I did this just to test to the process (my first flashing). Now I am ready.
So I will look for that then flash it and update as usual
Just found, or couldnt find, that ATT has the same update so will just go with what I have. Close as I can get
