[Q] Installing clean HTC version - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys!
So I bought my One two days ago and I'm pretty satafied with it , but the Rom that came along the device is the vodafone one , which means I have some unnecessary pre-installed apps..
So my question is how can I install a clean stock Rom ?
In addition , I experienced some things I didn't really like such as pretty bad battery life (losing about 1% after using whatsapp for a minute or even less - pretty much the same battery life I had while using my previous 3 year old sgs1) , and a little stutter while using apps like fb,youtube, play music or the camera .. Do you think that changing the Rom can fix those problems ?
Thanks in advance !

Yes, a custom rom and/or kernel can fix those issues. You need to unlock (I think via HTC Dev is the only way at the moment), flash a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP, I use TWRP and recommend it), root, and flash a custom rom (some Roms come per-rooted so you may be able to skip rooting yourself). There are toolkits available in the Development forum, as well as guides to help you out. Read, read, read, and choose the method you're comfortable with. Roms close to stock, but that allow removing the bloat are Maximus and ARHD (both close to stock). I use ViperOne, a Sense rom with an insane amount of customization! Custom kernels can give you some added features that can help battery life and reduce lag. I use ElementalX and really like it. It's all here in the forums, just read, make backups, and read some more. Hoped this helps...

[Q] Roms for the tilt 2 by htc

I have a tilt 2 with 8/30/2010 update n its suck i was wondering wats a good custom rom to use that dosent freezes up or runs super slow n were to download it at
We get at least a dozen new users asking this question every couple of weeks. The response is always the same. This is like asking a community of peers which pants are the most comfortable. It's a matter of opinion. Flashing doesn't harm your device at all (if you follow instructions), and it's simple to restore it to factory settings if you need to send it in for repairs or replacement. Therefore, with no downside to flashing ROMs, just keep flashing them until you find something you like.
Most ROM threads will tell you within the first couple of posts most of the goals of the ROM, and whether they are cooked for speed, looks, or stability. There are also pictures on most all of them so you can see it before you flash. Flashing takes minutes, so why not just spend a day or so testing a bunch of them out. I've been flashing for a long time and I still don't stick to just one ROM.

I got the same problem with this ROM from AT&T. I called HTC and they admit that there is a memory leak problem in the HTC Sense built into that version of the ROM. So does anyone have a ROM with a better (or later) HTC Sense that works, i.e. fast, no memory leak, and no lockup?
Thanks.
The best advice that can be given to those in your situation (besides HardSPL'ing your device) it to
1) Pick a ROM on this very board.
2) Flash it to your phone.
3) Use your phone.
4)
a) If you like it, then your problem is solved.
b) If you don't like it, do steps 1-3 until you get to step 4a)
Software Version 1.59.502.3
Will this new software version be a huge upgrade from my current version without losing any default features that I now have?
Consider using Wildchild's ROMs. They are pretty much stock look/feel, but faster and much more stable.

Yep. Bluetooth works great. Actually everything works great. Its a ROM where everything works as it should. Keep in mind, bloatware is removed, but all the core stuff works perfect.
Thanks - where is the best place to read up on with instructions on how to do this?
Try the flashing your first Rhodium ROM tutorial sticky.
Thanks - it appears there are several versions of the rom, so I have a lot of reading to figure out what the differences are.
Do you have any preference?

I use the 2.1 ROM from Wild Child and it is absolutely the best. Has everything I need and nothing I don't. It is fast, stable, in my mind, the way it should have been from the beginning. It is a rock solid ROM.
This is the one I was going to flash on my phone, but after hours of working on it with F2505x4 we could not get it to flash. There was an issue with the HardSPL. I ended up flashing the updated AT&T stock rom instead for now.

[Q] moving from darky

hi,
whats up?
ok so i have darkys rom v9.4 and i want to try a new rom called pilotx because im not really happy with the battery life and speed, and i got a little bored
so anyway, im kindda new to this flashing thing and i dont want my phone to become unusable for the next days so i wanted to know how to change roms the quickies and painless way possible.
do i just copy the files to the sd card, wipe and then install with recovery?
thanx
yes that is what you do BUT !!!
also remove the lagfix (if applied) before flashing the new ROM
Ok thanx.
So when do I need to use Odin?
And is miui a good rom for the sgs? Do you recommend it?
i use MIUI now and its awesome !!!
it has a few bugs still but is more than stable for day to day use.
biggest issue is battery life - its about 1 full day with heavy use. 2 days with normal use.
you MUST follow the instructions perfectly, it can be a little tricky but will definately be worth it.

[Q] Hesitating to upgrade to 2.3.3... for a reason?

Hello there,
Here's my situation: I'm still on Froyo JPY stock (unrooted) and have been reading extensively in this forums for quite a long time now.
I have various issues with my current configuration, the most prominent being fast battery drain (my phone has never lasted more than approx. 18hours), slow gps fix, occasional crashes and sometimes slow responses. Apart from that I dig the idea of a different lock-screen, VoodooSound for better audio recording quality while shooting videos at concerts, nice themes etc. etc.
Now I've looked into Virnik0's step-by-step guide and this sounds all very understandable and should give me a rooted 2.3.3 stock with SuperCurio's VoodooKernel (thank you in advance for such a clear guide).
However I'm still hesitating to upgrade for various reasons, and I hope someone can clear up some of these for me and might give me their general opinion.
1. Going from Froyo to Gingerbread, I feel like a full wipe would be necessary (or nicer and cleaner), am I right? How would I go about that before the update? (If I wait until the Kies Update, will this wipe my phone automatically?)
2. With the update, will I get the SamsungApps again with 2.3.3 that came with my phone on Froyo?
3. What's up with the issues in the 2.3.3 version, can they be fixed without too much understanding of mounting and rootexplorer etc.? (You read so much about issues like Swype, GoogleMaps, Battery Drain etc. It's hard to decide whether the new version will meet my needs or make things worse)
Now as an alternative, do you guys think flashing a custom Kernel like Voodoo (Froyo Versions) togehter with a less battery draining modem would already solve some, or all of my issues?
I am just quite confused with all the options and new information everyday and I don't want to mess up anything. This being said, I can easily access both Recovery and Download Mode with the 3-button combos (kind of an intermediate newbie here, i guess )
Well all opinions and answers are very much appreciated.
Kind regards.
Point one gingerbread is BETA .
Point two using the unofficial methods may brick your phone and will certainly void warranty .
Point three using unofficial roms means kies no longer updates .
Point four the Samsung apps you get are in the main the same .
Point four the majority of reported bugs are either bad flash or idiot using the phone .
Your choice to proceed .
Personal route would be to follow Virnik0's step-by-step guide. But stop before Installing Darky rom .
Instead go to Rom Kitchen and build a rom .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817703
Stock with WIPE Kernel Chainfires .and all other apps available .
when thats done install CF-Root-XW_XEE_JVB-v3.1-CWM3RFS
Followed by if required XWJVB_Gingerbread_v5.2_Android_lock
jje
Thanks for your swift reply, it is much appreciated.
Just for my understanding: The procedure you recommend sounds a little "double" to me:
If I follow Virnik0's guide until step 20 (right before Darky ROM), my phone has already been flashed with stock firmware including bootloaders + CFRoot Kernel + VoodooKernel (supercurio).
After that you mean go to ROM Kitchen (the new Beta I suppose?) and stock again this time with WIPE and Chainfire's Kernel. After that again with CFRoot Kernel?
I am confused. What is the purpose of this. Besides that, can you point me to the XWJVB_Gingerbread_v5.2_Android_lock file?
Not if its already flashed you dont need them just pick what you want .
I probably stopped as soon as i had 2.3 installed and then went rom kitchen etc .
Just stop before the post that says install Darky rom and you should be fine .
XWJVB_Gingerbread_v5.2_Android_lock file?
You will have to search i have deleted all my SGS 1 links .
jje
I think the point he was trying to make was that you can build a rom to suit your needs in the kitchen. If u want sammy apps you can include them, if u don't you don't have to.there are many custom roms out there too. alot off which strip out the crap from samsung. I personally use debusrom but this does not have samsung apps. it does however have the aosp lockscreens. Its all down to what you want. Which is why the kitchen may be a better option for you, right down to the modem you wish to use.

oh man ur always here to answer people's quesion u got thanks from me
now commenting on the original post, the only reason for me stay away from the gb roms is the call recording function which is unavailable yet in gb roms (apart from miui which is awesome but unstable according my experience )
MIUI is not unstable, it just has a few minor bugs, biggest one being battery drain. everything works as it should do, ive been using it since rc3 and i aint going back..... ever lol

wat about the compass+accelerometre+occasional restarts+ laggy 3g+imei issues ?

to root or not?

im curious to the benefits & also which FW, kernel etc to flash
which is the best all round? thanks
not a guru by any means but I chose to root and use custom rom after Samsung decision not to produce stock ics rom for galaxy s. Cf-root is great starting place. Since then I've used several roms and kernels finally settling with team icssgs and devil 14.2 led. It gets kind of additive as its like getting a new phone so I'm sure I'll be changing again soon.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
root it for some awesome features and wonderful custom roms
try miui its a colourful rom and excellent features
gamerz rom for ultimate speed
my opinion start with gamerz rom if love to play games
If you scrounge for customizations and feature rich functions for your phone , then "ROOTING" is a must .
If you are on android just to make calls , texts , web , music and all those stuff , minus the headaches of "changing" your phone's look and feel , then don't bother rooting , your better off without it .
All the replys have good points.
If you want to do it be prepared to spend a lot of time at your computer reading. Its not simple but once you got how to do it its not as bad.
I started off here. Noob proof guide
http://droidangel.blogspot.com/2012/01/i9000xxjvu-android-236-upgrade-for.html?m=0
after you have done that you can either leave it as that or go all the way
Try CF root kernel. it brings no unwanted changes to your stock kernel and your device will be rooted.
The benefits: you can enjoy all programs which needs root permission and you will be able to install all custom roms.
If you dont know how to apply new kernel, PM

[q] not a single good rom ?

IS there any good roms for this phone seriously ?
every rom i try has alot of bugs and problems and devs release updates every 6 months and most of them drop the development for the phone anyway
i cant find a single rom that combines performance with battery without sacrificing the LED notification abilities !!!
I've seen comments saying "the best rom" in every rom OP
If 'you' don't like it, it's your view. But don't ask for the best rom as its a violation of xda rules. I hope you get my point and I'm not being rude.
There are many great roms out there, try them for a week or so and then see what's good and what's not, help the dev by reviewing it honestly(not being biased like 'this rom is nothing like xyz rom') this way the dev will help you get a better rom.

First off - respect others work. Everyone puts a lot of effort in the ROMs.
1. The ROMs for SP are nearly bugless, only stock based ROMs have stock Sony bugs.
2. Of course - updates are released every 6 months - how is that possible if PA, AOKP, PAC, FXP CM are weekly-built, and we also have daily-built CM nightlies. Also who dropped support for a ROM? Last time it happened for OmniROM. After that no one dropped ROM support.
3. All ROMs for SP are nearly on par when it comes to battery and performance.
4. You can get the illumination bar features with Illumination Reciever + Illumination Bar Notification apps
5. Why do you put these exclamation marks in your sentences?
try PA or PAC, smooth, fast , great battery life and stable
2 words: thread reported
please respect the work of others and be patient
Also according to the XDA Rules asking for "What is the best ROM" is not allowed here
~~ Regards
hahahahaha you people are being aggressive and rude and i didnt say the "Best" anywhere i said a good rom
and no there are no good roms and i have used every single rom in the development thread and i know every developer and because i respect them i didnt mention their names but i know everyone who doesnt release a single update and leaves the rom to rot or just drops the whole development
everyone is just sensetive when it comes to respecting developers

3. there are roms that are just slow like stocks and roms that eat battery like miui and aosp and cm

4. Okay, I can agree, but it's proprietary Sony technology so it can't really be used in CM without weird tricks.
3.Stock is pretty fast starting from .205 update. Eat battery? It depends on that how you flash the ROM, I can easily get 3-4+ hours screen on time.
2. I won't even comment about that, your ignorance totally killed me.
1.FC Festive? Custom ROMs based on AOSP are way stabler than stock ROMs.

I tried AOKP, PAC, PA, CM10.2, CM11, Stock odexed and deodexed, and also ExistenZ from the first version(based on 4.1.2). So yeah, I didn't try them.
Well, looking at your posts I thought you were dirty flashing from stock to CM11 and other ROMs, because with your issues it's impossible that you clean flashed everything.
And about the developers and their work - they can't do that, why? Because people like you will complain about no updates, bugs and no support...

Well, you wrote the correct steps earlier, but you didn't include formatting /system, so in the flashing process some files were left intact thanks by updater-script backuptool.
Anyway, it's not just about the correct or incorrect way. It just seems like a user mistake for me...
Let's end this discussion now, I don't want to fight with anyone about why custom ROMs on their phones perform worse than for happy majority.

Wiping battery stats is completely useless step.
Yes, happy majority on(for example) CM/PA/PAC that enjoys the smoothness, stability and battery life of these ROMs(ofc you will argue about that these ROMs have no updates, no support, ppor battery life and performance, but as I said, the discussion about that is ended).

I dont even know why we are wasting our time on you...Pls buy another phone, leave us alone. However, I doubt that even the note 3 will be good for you,as you are lost in space and time.eXistenz was updated 1/7/2014,that was 1 month and almost 2 weeks ago,not 3 months. The reason it wasnt updated is that there is no reason for it to be updated at the moment. The illusion that you put yourself in is false and broken,as only ROMs which arent complete need updates every day,or if they added new features. All stock based roms give you the latest SONY UI,and if you dont like them,SONY isnt the right company for you.None of us notice lag on it,or on any custom rom.I dont know what your complex brain expects from a phone this good.If you arent satisfied, try unlocking the bootloader, and installing FXPCM11,that rom is blazing fast, but the bootloader unlock is the price for it.I am honestly using NexusCM11,and it is fast and smooth as butter.try following install instructions completely, and the ROMs wont lag.You cant just pop a thread, with a goal of insulting people who do much more for their property than you.If you think they all suck, you can make one yourself,so we can admire your ambitions. But the bigger chance is simply that you can not be satisfied, even if someone gave you a xperia z2/galaxy s5/note 3 or the lg g3.You would always complain. But I have an idea!
