No Sony Xperia Otterbox case? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

G'day everyone,
I've been told that Otterbox is not making any cases for the Xperia Z,
Which is very annoying as thats the case thats perfect for me as im a Tradesman.
Is there any cases out there that are similar to the otterbox defender case for the xperia z?
I cant find much topics regarding this, basically its a case with three parts, the screen protector plate, the front plate and the back plate which is very thick as i need it for work.
I've had the phone for about 3 days now - not opened due to not having a good case for my work... its killing me haha....
Basically this is the Otterbox case for the Iphone:

Greatly appreciated,
Jon

Casemate tough case is probably the best tough case but it has no protection for the front like the Otterbourne otherwise a flip case is probably your best bet

I remember reading somewhere that otterbox were going to make a case for the Z but that was a while ago, the casemate tough case is a great option and use a high quality screen protector to protect there.

Just saw on the otterbox website they have the commuter case available but doesn't show a pic of a xz

Don't see how that's possible considering you can't even select Sony as a brand.

Well u can but looking at it again its for a xperia x10
But I don't know how true this is, considering the website is pretty useless so probably not so

Yeah I messaged otterbox myself regarding it, they haven't made one "yet" and they'll let me know if any progress of a case for Xperia z is going to be taken up. I highly doubt they will be making one as its been a bit since the phone was released. Although I decided to order the tough case-mate case, as that's the best "rugged" one I have found so far, even though there isn't much too choose from sadly.
Dying to try out the phone, while waiting for the case mate to be delivered I bought a normal TPU case because I can't wait any longer... as its just sitting sealed on my desk for a good week now... I'm actually impressed that I haven't opened it yet lol.

Tempered glass is the way to go, trust me.
Brando tempered glass rounded edition was my choosing and i'm very happy.
Built like a tank, smooth to the touch, rounded corners, 9H hardness, oleophobic coatic, has the proper sensor cuts, best buy i've made for any smartphone i owned so far....
http://shop.brando.com/Brando-Works...d-Edition-Sony-Xperia-Z-_p09084c1512d008.html
(yes it has the sensor cuts even tough the image doesnt show it)

Either rhino or the tempered glass look good, I'll try out the tempered glass and see how it goes. Looks promising. How long is the life roughly lasted from your experience?

It's real glass with 9H, it will last quite a while if you don't abuse it with constant drops. It's also rounded on the edges so it has a fairly good resistance to little chips from ocasional bumps.
No clue about the oleophobic layer, so far so good as in the first day.
I have the glass for a couple months now and it's exactly the same as in the first day i bought it, Hoping it will last for 5-6 months in pristine condition it will be a major good buy as the price it's quite afordable and the touch feeling of glass is absolutely amazing, seems the fingers just glide through the screen.

It lasts as long as you want, I broke the first one because I wasn't careful enough while putting the phone in the dock, so if you have a dock be cautions when you're about to charge your phone. Don't be scared tho, I got my second protector, been using it with the dock without a problem. But if I'm not careful enough it might break again. It won't really break, just crack (Which is essentially the same but still..)

I've checked out that case, being a metal case could be a problem for me, as I do work with electrical, as well the data speed can get annoying. I decided to get the case-mate and see how that goes. Thanks for the suggestion.

Just follow the instructions, it's quite simple tbh and much easier not to mess up compared to film/plastic screen protectors.
Bubble-wise it's nearly not a problem as with the nice squeege its easy to disperse them, the major problem is dust that may be caught between the glass and the screen, you do have some stickers that help a lot on those but only if the dust particle is near the edges of the glass, if it's in the middle you have to take back the glass to take the dust off. it's not realy a major problem as the glass glues with a substance that keeps glueing even if you remove the glass a couple of times, but just be carefull.
Be sure to realy clean the XZ shatter proof layer and try not to apply the glass in a dust-abundant environment.
Also (realy important) is necessary to understand that this brando glass is not a 100% fit on the phone entire screen. Example if the ZX screen is XX mm tall, the brando tempered glass is (XX - 0,5 mm tall) meaning that is slightly shorter than the screen, so you better adjust it to the speaker on top and start placing it 0,5 mm below it and it will fit nicely 0,5 mm above the bottom microphone. Also on the sides, 0,5 mm maximum.
This might sound that the glass is not of a good size, but after you place it on the phone you'll understand that this is even better than a "perfect" fit as the phone seems to be more rounded on the screen afterwards, trust me, you'll like it.

This would be beneficial to casemate users as the case has a little lip over the phones front so it should be a snug fit

I've had my Nexus One for about a year. I have a couple scratches on my screen even with Gorilla Glass. The scratches are definitely from keys. I also have a few nicks on the body. I went a month with a pouch/case and screen protector but after about a month I realized how you totally lose the design of a phone with cases'. So I think when I get my Nexus S, Im gonna use a pouch and just rock my phone fully NAKED, who cares if you scratch the screen or the body, Its just a phone. In about a year when your going to sell it, its already dated and worth little to nothing, How much is a 6/10 condition Nexus One Vs a 9/10 Nexus One?
im looking for a pouch too. i love the way the stock phone feels on my hand.
i'm not using any screen protectors for about a month, and no scratch till now

Because there are small spots on my screen where the coating is gone (or seems that way anyways). There are others who have experienced this also in the big "oleophobic coating" topic. It can only be seen under light in a certain angle, but it's definitely there. The screen protector negates the effect so I don't see it anymore. Weird, but that's why I use a screen protector.

I always think they look rubbish, no matter how neatly they are put on.
i dont even use one on my evo, unless your working in the trades I dont think most people will benefit from using a protector
No screen protector since day 1 in december, no scratches either despite some bad drops on concrete which have dented the plastic around the screen.
Glass is tough!
I think building up a castle around a phone is "iPhone user style"

Screen Protectors fitting like crap [i9020]

Does anyone else's screen protector have dust collecting under the spot where the screen curves down into the bezel? its above the speaker grille and also below the capacatives.
I ordered a zagg and I'm hoping that it doesn't also do the same thing.
Has anyone come across a screen protector that doesn't suck/ do this?

Good, I just ordered one from Zagg and hopefully it fits like yours does.
I have an Xtreme Guard (here) and I don't have this problem. Fits perfectly.
My Nexus S came with a Zagg already installed, and yeah, I kinda hate it. I'm too lazy to order another one and put it on, so I'll deal. I was just wondering if anyone's screen has an orange tint to it? I just got the phone (3 days), and when I put it next to my Captivate, the Captivate's screen is much more vivid and has no orange tint to it. Is this because of Zagg? It fits very well, by the way.
Well i have slcd i9023 version, and its colors are still like before. I agree that the texture is a bit getting used to but when you do it doesnt really bother you. And on the plus side the annoying fingerprints are greatly reduced.

Previously i had a case mate protector and it caught all the dust of the surroundings down the protector in the corners

I may be alone in this, but I think screen protectors are overrated. The biggest danger to the screen is shattering and no screen protector will prevent that. Unless you have diamonds in your pockets I cannot imagine scratching it without breaking it completely. .

That is a good point, which would go more towards purchasing a case rather than a screen protector, though i have a major pet peeve when it comes to my screen having any sort of scratch..let alone cracks..but IMO i do believe having a well made screen protector on or screens do provide a lesser chaw of getting cracks if the device were to drop!

I ended up taking it off about 4 months ago because the protector itself was scratched and to be honest, since I removed it I've been asking myself why I bought one in the first place. 4 months later, not a single scratch and I think I have enjoyed the phone more without it. Screen is clear, sharp and bright and still without scratches. Often put in my pocket with keys, lighter and other hazardous materials for out phones.

same here, what will be the point in selling a super scratch free 2 years old obsolete phone .....
just like the slightly scratched glass on my iphone 3gs I gave to my kids as an ipod touch
I see I'm in the minority here but screen protectors just don't have the same smoothness as the gorilla glass. Coming from a Samsung Impression it felt like I was running my fingers on silk. And after 4 months of always being on my person I can attest gorilla glass is pretty kick ass. I've dropped the phone onto a gravel street and got very minimal damage. Now mind you the phone bounced, landed and skidded about 10' on the kevlar back so maybe it was just a small miracle it didn't shatter. But the only damage was a small knick in the glass on the top corner away from the touch screen and a small dent in the metal around the face. The kevlar took no damage at all. I've also had in a pocket with loose change and keys with no effect.
Now maybe I'm just lucky but the kevlar backing and silky smooth touch of the gorrilla glass as opposed to having to change screens and getting a bulky case that won't fit the HD dock just aren't comparable.
I go a couple of scratches on my screen, probably from it being dropped in the gym and all that good stuff. I went ahead and got a Zagg screen protector off amazon. It's not too bad for the 10 bucks I spent.

Best Budget Screen Protector?

I'm a big fan of DC Mugen screen protectors, usually buying from their ebay store. I bought 10 for my Nexus One, and have only used about 4 in almost 3 years, such good quality they are.
However I noticed that they've shutdown their store, and don't really sell much phone gear any more.
So can anyone recommend a similar seller of quality screen protectors at a budget/value price? Ones that lasts at least 12 months with no sign of peeling or degradation.

What's the clarity like? Because mist anti-fingerprints make the screen look fuzzy.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
If they make your screen look fuzzy then it sounds like you perhaps tried matt ones? Matt are usually better for anti glare and fingerprints, but they do make the screen look fuzzy all right.
The best type imho would be a crystal clear gloss type that would also help prevent fingerprints and smudges. I believe SGP ones might offer this but at a premium per protector.
I'm still searching on ebay for something decent with delivery to Europe.

No one with a Gorilla Glass phone should use a screen protector. They increase the weight and thickness, interfere with the proximity sensor and don't prevent scratches, as Gorilla Glass doesn't scratch, and therefore are a waste of money, time and resources. In my experience they're also harder to clean and leave adhesive behind.

They increase the weight and thickness, interfere with the proximity sensor and don't prevent scratches, as Gorilla Glass doesn't scratch, and therefore are a waste of money, time and resources. In my experience they're also harder to clean and leave adhesive behind.

' l really wish People would stop saying that gorilla doesn't scratch, it does scratch. The only thing that helps prevent it from scratches is the oleophobic coating.

You must be jokking right. Adding weight ?! Gorilla is not scratch resitant. I do not user screenprotector but you talk nonsense.
So I contacted dcmugen88 on ebay and they replied saying they'll have their screen protectors available once their store is back up (hopefully not too far off)
yes i have it but the store is currently down as we move our operations.
upon return we can ship for you

Clarity is great. Like it's not even on the screen. I've purchased this brand for my GNex, really like them.
Skinomi screen protectors are top notch and are comparable to but not as expensive as zagg. There is almost always a free shipping or X% off coupon at retailmenot.com, too.

I have tried a few different protectors. I hated most of them. Once ii stumbled upon DC that was were i stayed. I have been using DC anti glare for about 4 years now across 3 different phones. I will only change if he stops selling.

I really liked RealLook
I had one for my Vibrant, then one for my S2.
Never had to change them out once I properly applied it.
I would stick with cheap ones. Only thing is, I don't know why they don't make any screen protectors that ONLY have a cutout or the earpiece.
I don't need a cutout for the proximity sensor/ light sensor/ FF Camera. That's superfluous. There's no reason to leave those exposed with stupid cutouts. The Screen protector is Transparent.
Anyway, that's my only complaint Plus, with our screen now, there's a hardware Home button. It'll be extremely easy to line up the earpiece cutout and the Home button cutout and the rest of the orientation will pretty much fall into place quite easily.

Looking for results on screen protectors with spen usage

I have read through the other screen protector thread and I feel like it's just a mess to read through because it's people either simply stating what they ordered or SSHguru from just like glass suggesting his product or talking back and forth with people about the orders. Just like glass is definitely one of the protectors I am considering as well as possibly looking at the SPIGEN SGP protectors.
I have not used a screen protector on a phone in a few years but due to the screen being so big and not being able to get insurance on the phone this time I feel a screen protector is wise. I just want to make sure it will not hinder the use of the spen. I am no artist and can barely draw a stick figure or even write with a pen for that matter, I just have horrible handwriting. So as long it still functions correctly I am happy with it.
I am thinking of adding a pole to this with the ones most recommended.

I am using Just like glass, I also have horrible handwriting and cant drew worth crap! (even my stick figures are bad!) It is a great product!! and SSHguru (AKA Scott) Is great as far as responding to emails and posts / concerns. That being said the protector I relived is a little short (Files where too big to upload!) and it sounds like he had an issue with the manufacturer. So I would wait until that gets figured out before ordering!

Ok thanks! And that was one of the reasons I am interested in his JLG, it just became hard to read through everything since it turned more into a thread about his protector and why to buy no others as well as him supporting people. His support is great from what I was reading. I just wanted to get the ball rolling on a thread that is about actually using the protectors and how they have worked out for people so far on all brands. I know zagg is something I will go no where near.

Actually just got an email from Scott "We actually got a real Note II and laser scanned it.
The new cut is shipping to you today.
Thanks for the help!
Scott"
So I cant be positive until I receive it but assuming it is the right fit I would very highly recommend it!
I went ahead and ordered one.
I got the zag invisible shield on today. It takes 24 hrs to dry. So I will let you know once it dries.

The invisishield hd is a no go for stylus users. My brother had one on his and the sketch he did with it is permanently on his screen protector now.

I'm using the Spigen Ultra Crystal and despite it not covering the screen entirely I love it. It's virtually unnoticeable other than the fingerprints that it collects, which is something you'll see with all screen protectors(I had issues even on my oleophobic that I had on my GS2). The stylus works just as well as it did before I put the protector on it and there are zero marks on it from the stylus since I've been using it(5 days)
I'm using a Spigen Ultra Oleophobic and, in retrospect, I wish I'd left my Ultra Crystal on. The Ultra Crystal was all but invisible aside from the fingerprints that wipe off cleanly, whereas fingerprints on the Ultra Oleophobic leave behind a film that makes the fact that you're using a screen protector painfully obvious. All things considered, I should have stayed with the Ultra Crystal, and it's only my desire to not give up on a $7.50 screen protector ten days after getting the phone (as I did with my Ultra Crystal) keeps the Ultra Oleo on there.
That being said, I use my S Pen regularly, and neither Spigen protector ever showed signs of wear or marking from the S Pen. I did have an Xtreme Guard screen protector on there for a few days after getting the phone, and it was badly marked up by the S Pen. My theory is that wet-apply protectors are just a bad idea with the Note 2, as gooey plastic (which is basically what they are) is prone to being scratched up and dragged around by pointy objects.
I use the same material used on cars for their clear bras. S pen works fine, and it's very tough. I use it on my iPad 3 as well. Never buying screen protectors again. Lol
Reporting back with my feedback from using the zag invisible shield.
No marks have been left on it with my s pen. It is not as smooth as writing on the screen though. I am happy.

This is completely bogus. I had two zaggs on my Note 2, one replaced by Best Buy because the S-Pen marks were so profound, the second removed because it happened to the improved Zagg... Even with the second being a Zagg HD, I was 100% let down by this product. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
The SGP Ultra Crystal is, by far, the best available, as far as the S-Pen goes. It's just too hard for it to even think about leaving marks. That being said, I am eagerly awaiting my new re-cut just like glass to see if it's all that it's cracked up to be. If not, I will be certain to let you know... and subsequently go back to a SGP Ultra.

Has anyone noticed any delay/lessened sensitivity issues with either the SGP or JLG screen protectors? It's awesome that the note 2 has 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity (I'm assuming it's built into the spen), but I wouldn't want a screen protector getting in the way of that.
Spigen ultra clear here works fine

I wouldn't do that...you WILL get marks on it...I can almost guarantee it. I too had the Zagg HD and after a few days use, there were s pen marks all over it. Initially it seemed like a great protector...actually, without the s pen it would be. However, if you look at your screen with it turned off you can see marks all over it. Go with xtremeguard, Just Like Glass or Spigen...any one of those will hold up better and they are all quite a bit less expensive.

I don't much care how the screen looks while off.
I don't really use the pen much either, just don't want that rubbery feel (OG Zagg) when I do.
As far as price, I don't really care as long as I get what I want. Also, working at Best Buy has its advantages
