Hey all just got this from a co worker as I revived a few others, but haven't seen this...any ideas?
UPDATE: got it fixed...the screen problem was from a corrupt NVRAM mmcblk0p12..It was missing tokens as well...first i ran tpdebrick-v004 to get it booted to this the crazy screen, then made a meta doctor that bypassed the token check by going into meta-doctor,and this is where it was hard to get things to complete how i wanted...from meta doctor wiki the commands are a tad off for our device and what i needed to do..using the link http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Sprint_Pre_Plus#Step_2:_Setup_meta-doctor as referance I cloned meta-doctor *but instead of putting the webos doctor 3.0.5 in the downloads folder i put in webosdoctor3.0.0 renamed to 3.0.5
1.Ran "make unpack" then went in and edited the recoverytool.config to remove the approvalbuildname, approvalcharliehash, and approvalmikehash.(i then edited the topaz.xml file in the webos folder to add tokens from another 32gb i had..(unknown consequences though)but should have worked without?.
THEN 2.Ran "make patch"
3.then ran "make DEVICE=touchpad CARRIER=wifi all" it will skip the make unpack and make patch commands and use your modified ones..these are the steps that seemed to be the differance for me and were not found..Maybe i shoulda known
4.membooted the device to rebuild the partitions(had to do this step multiple times as i was getting all the known errors)
5.Ran the modified webosdoctor from meta doctor and SUCCESS!!
And this was done multiple times til it all went smooth with no errors in one pass.*once the modified webosdoctor was made all i had to do was the tpdebrick and partition rebuild without error for the doctor to complete...sorry for the ramble....stoked
So maybe this can help someone else in the same spot as me.This was all done on ubuntu12.04 wubi
I had this on a touchpad once, never did get it working again.
I'm sure I read somewhere its down to a corruption in the gpu and is pretty bad news.
Would be interesting to hear if you manage to revive it...
Thanks for the reply...I can get it recognized as palm, and qhdload...holding power and volume up I can get the xp computer to see palm novacom bootie in device manager.. and can get webos doctor to start and it either hangs at 0%,8%,or 12% randomly..I know of those fixes but haven't been able to replicate them to do them yet... I also ran tpdebrick and have the info file from that showing a few errors...also ran acmeuninstaller and the screen went to the dual penguins, so that gives me some hope that it'll work... if it was the gpu would the screen work during that process? Any pointers or direction to be headed in let me know...I'll update with any progress...I feel it can be fixed...how can I access SD card thru terminal commands to see the dir.?
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk
Penguin screen from acmeuninstaller...still hope? And I can't get novaterm to connect...I could redo the lvm if I could connect to it...seems like that's where its stuck..thanks in advance..

Hm, seems like you're having a little more luck with yours than I did.
I did pretty much everything you've done and reached a dead end. Now it no longer has the weird screen, just black.
I haven't been able to communicate with it, through adb or novaterm, which seems like the best way to access dirs and internal file structure/partitioning.
Even running ubuntu on a usb stick I couldn't get in...
But you're right, there's cause for hope!
If u still have that TP leave it on the charger for a LONG time and that screen might pop back up...I only have about 30 mins to do stuff to it before its battery is too low again..after about 30 mins the screen just goes black(with backlight) but won't let novacom or novaterm connect until I charge again....
Well I got novaterm to connect...me being stupid forgot to go and hit connect haha..with that I was able to get [email protected] so went here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show thread hop?t=1426244 but the first lvm.static vgscan --ignorelockingfailure comes back with reading all volumes. May take a while... But stops instantly and back at [email protected] with the second lvm.static vgchange.-ay --ignorelockingfailure ...continuing on lvm.static vgcreate -s 8M store /dev/mmcblk0p. Comes back with not an existing volume, unable to add to /Dev/mmcblk0p to volume group"store"
So seeing that tried lvm.static pvcreate /dev/mmcblk0p 14 and got Device dev/mmcblk0p not found( or ignore by filtering) and Device 14 not found or ignored by filtering... Thought I'd keep it all up to date so if this can help me or anyone else ya know...I can get webosdoctor to 8% every time now but that's it..been trying the fixes listed but get stuck at fix_dos_sh.fs not found and the mkdosfs -f 1 -s 64 /dev/store/media comes back with something similar like the store not found.. Just an update
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I do still have it, might just stick it on over the next few and see if I can't get somewhere with it.
Looks like you're on the right track anyways, just gotta find that magic formula.
I'll look through the resources I've used when doctoring in the past, see if there's anything I can throw at you but looks like you've got it all covered...
Keep it up!
Ya throw it on...who knows right I'll let ya know if I get it and could help...I just got it past all the lvm commands and everyrhing seemed to take fine..just didn't have enough battery to doctor yet....fingers crossed itll take n show a normal screen when it/if it finishes.

Ok, good luck with that.
Having used tpdebrick, did you look around the original tpdebrick v0.1 thread? Theres a useful discussion throughout, but I think somewhere around p25, but def somewhere between 20-30, there's more specific info about reading/writing partition info and getting a TP stuck in bootie mode to respond.
I tried using the dfu-util cmd mentioned in one post - there was other stuff about logs eetc - which resulted in a brief flash of the lcd - and my hope - but nothing after. Might be worth a look around if you haven't been there already....
Cheers, peace
Great thanks...I haven't read much on the v1 tpdebrick only the v4..I'll look at that today...
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
OK just an update...still the same, but narrowed it down to missing tokens in the NVRAM mmcblk0p12 block...running java - jar web doctor came back with tokens not found..should have been empty...I can bypass that with meta doctor and now stopping at 12% because of bad volume sizes...getting close I think...
But u were/are correct about the GPU..it is on the same block...I think it is only for the boot...so should be OK...
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
FIXED!!!! Reran tpdebrick, made meta-doctor to bypass token check as the nvram tokens were missing.. Then reset the partitions and ran the doctor...and success....I can say to ppl that there are a ton of minuet steps that will throw the whole process off if not done from start to finish perfectly...well we can see now that it is recoverable!!! Any help I can offer to anyone let me know here or pm......happy
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Wow, amazing man!
I can't even get mine to the psychedleic screen now, just runs thru the tpdebrick process, says All Done!, then nada ...
Not sure I quite understand your first post, but will scrutinise it and see if I can take anything from it.
Well done again!
Peace

I was googling WebTop hacks for the Bionic to see if any came up but it did show ones on the Atrix that were pretty frickin awesome if we could get this up and running on our phones
WebTop2sd 1.1.0
Imagine running a full version of Ubuntu instead of the lite version that is preloaded in the WebTop OS. Finally we could run XBMC or OpenOffice through the power of our phones
Find anything? The closest I have come across is a flashable zip for the Atrix but no full Ubuntu for the Bionic.
I am on my bionic....

I have been searching for the past 24 hours to no avail... I guess we just need to wait a few weeks or so for our Bionic version of UbunTop.
I was thinking of trying to overwrite all of OSH on my Bionic with the OSH dir from UbunTop package... but I decided against it. Primarily because if it did actually work, I'd still be on jaunty instead of maverick (newer ubuntu). So there'd be all sorts of incompatibilities with stuff I'd be wanting to try.
So, I guess I'll keep waiting and searching Can't be long now...
Ok, so I have gotten as far as being able to load ubuntu 10.10 w/ gnome panel but when i try to upgrade to 11.04 it tells me that it needs 10.5m of space. I partitioned my 32gb sd card 50/50 so there is a ton of room. Disk Usage Analyzer says there is no mount point. Everything in Ubuntu is trying to load to /, not osh/ maybe??
Anyone have any ideas?
Edit: Any installs from synaptic can install just fine, its only from ubuntu updater thats giving me issues

Could I please ask how you achieved this? Thanks!
Ok, start with the webtop2sd mod then, check out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281722
Once your done there, go into synaptic and install gnome and ubuntu. When you start doing things, it will give you a few errors of items needed to install/uninstall, install/uninstall them as needed. It will also give you an error about "Bluez", when you get there you will need to "completely remove" it. Once everything is installed, restart your phone.
Reopen "start-oshwt-2.sh", remove the xfce panel and desktop you added earlier and add:
sfalv -i "gnome-panel"
sfalv -i "ubuntu-desktop"
Save and restart
Back into webtop and you should have a nice new ubuntu webtop.
I recommend doing a complete uninstall of firefox then reinstall it, it will give you a more complete firefox.
Openoffice works too.
At this point I am stuck, synaptic works just fine but when I try Ubuntu Update, it gives the disk space error. Still working on it.
not sure if this will help but I was having alot of problems getting certain things to install and I did a:
apt-get install --reinstall coreutils
fix alot of problems for me

So webtop2sd is absolutely necessary before we can install that webtop patch? I'm not sure what went wrong when I tried doing the webtop2sd once before, but I got stuck at the M loading screen and had to completely restore my phone from RSD... So I'm a bit nervous to try again, lol. But I will if it's necessary for Ubuntu
EDIT:
OK, I am attempting the webtop2sd process again. This time I partitioned the SD from the windows program "MiniTool Partition Wizard..." as suggested. It is currently synchronizing... I'm keeping my fingers crossed

Well, youll want to do it for no other reason than disk space, installing gnome, ubuntu, etc takes quite a bit. Even though webtop2sd says that it changes /etc/tomoyo, i found that there was both the original and the "toy" folder after install. I went again and changed the folder name to tomoyo1 and never had a boot problem after.

I certainly thank you and appreciate you taking the time to write this lil guide But unfortunately, everytime I try to install gnome and ubuntu I get fatal errors and it never finishes anything. Everytime so far, I've had to fully restore my phone... But, I'm a very patient man No full on bricks, so that's great! ... But I do feel as though I'm getting closer and closer each time. You've given me a lot of info to run with, I just don't understand why mine won't give the same results as yours... oh well.
Thank you for all your input, it is greatly appreciated!

The only thing specifically related to my process that I left out was that in the guide for webtop2sd, I took that authors advice and used the partition tool included in his post to partition my sd card although i doubt thats your issue. If you get hung up, between the posts are all the files need to go back to fully stock, that's where i started from and, not that is should make a difference but im using the (r3)blur3d 2.0 rom.
Any more progress?
Has anyone else gotten any further with this?
I think this has SO MUCH potential and I really wish there were more updates and/or interest in this.
I (think) I have webtop2sd working correctly, but I still encounter the low memory issues when I use even 2 or more browser tabs in Firefox simultaneously. I saw the other thread about adding the swap partition, perhaps I need to go that route instead?
I have a class 10 SD card in my phone, and I did allocate 3GB to the webtop2sd partition, but I know there are some inherent limitations of OSH based on Motorola's original design.
I just wish it could be made more powerful and viable. The idea of carrying around a full-blown desktop OS on my phone almost makes me salivate.
Thanks!

Yeah, MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition! It's a great tool! I used that to partition mine as well... the biggest partition for my sdcard-ext (like 9GB) then almost 5GB for the webtop2sd partition... then whatever was left for a swap partition (created in MiniTool Wizard also). I've never noticed a low memory warning, but I really haven't used my webtop much. Just today I got the bluetooth mouse and keyboard in the mail, so I'm thinking it'll be able to get more usage. Oh, and I was running stock, just rooted (forever rooted) and NOT deodexed... BUT now I am running on the HIFT3R rom ... I'm gonna try out the TH3ORYPAKX "Blurry" now... I tried the ICS Blurry, but I don't like the color scheme, and various little things... Hoping the Blurry is more to my liking.
But it does seem as though I have more power/rights for some reason, perhaps cause it's deodexed or perhaps because it has a lot of mods built-in? Who knows... I just know it seems a lot better.
I *just* got thru with the sudo apt-get update at lunch time... getting ready to go back home and start playing around. This time with the bluetooth mouse and keyboard! woot!
I did get the KFCE4 working a while back, as in the guide...
sfalv -i "xfdesktop"
sfalv -i "xfce4-panel"
BUT I didn't really like it for some reason... I want the gnome-panel and ubuntu-desktop but no matter what I've tried, I have always ended up with poor results... not once have I seen the gnome-panel (which would be on the bottom right? the webtop-panel will always be on the top, unless I rem out that line too) And I'm not sure what I'll see if the ubuntu-desktop ever works...
But I'm dying to find out
I'll let you know my results...

Rob, I must agree 100% ... the idea of having a fully loaded, ready to roll, desktop OS on my smartphone is mind-blowing! The lapdock is great and all, but too expensive. Having the alternative ability to hook my phone up to my or my friends HDTV when I visit, whip out my bluetooth mouse and keyboard... then queue up a movie, or show them some awesome websites, or let them surf the web... or work on some overdue projects... it's quite appealing! You could even hook it into a projector and give a presentation... from your PHONE, lol.
...
That being said, though. I have ran into some discouragement. I have a monitor here at work with DVI input, and a HDMI to DVI adapter cable. The native res is like 1680x1050. In the beginning, I was able to hook my Bionic up to it and webtop just fine. It looked stretched cause it was using a 4:3 resolution, but it still worked. Now, it doesn't work. Says something like it's unsupported res or something (on the monitor screen for a second). So, I try it on every monitor I have handy (I work in the IT Dept)... not a single one of them worked!!! But I go home and hook it up to my 1080p DLP 60" and it works just fine. Hmmm...... I wish I could figure this one out.
I'd like to know the solution if you find it. It seems to be running the desktop at 1280x1024. I've changed the resolution with xrandr to 1680x1050 and the proportions look right, but the actual resolution it's outputting is still 1280x1024 so all of the pixels look weird and fuzzy. It's as if the virtual desktop is only 1280x1024. I tried creating my own xorg.conf file and setting up a 1680x1050 resolution mode and virtual line but it still doesn't work. Any ideas from anyone else?

I got it working on this monitor here at work again... what I did was just make sure I went down to like 1024x768 resolution while I had it on my HDTV at home before I unplugged it. For some reason, if I left it on the 720p, it would stay there and wouldn't be recognized on any other monitor (unless it was capable of actual 720p). Automatic 'new' display detection looks like it is built in, but doesn't seem to work most of the time.
On another note... My bluetooth mouse and keyboard have some crazy, 1 to 2 second lag ONLY in webtop. I was doing something last night and the mouse sprung into life... the lag completely went away, on the keyboard too! But after unplugging and hooking back up, the lag is back... If I unplug the monitor, there is absolutely no lag with the mouse or keyboard on just the phone itself. Could this be the 'Bluez' thing you were talking about Hastaply?

Yeah, it could be. The bluetooth drivers in Ubuntu dont play well with webtop but if your keyboard and mouse are paired with the phone and then you enter into webtop they should still stay connected. Under synaptic, search for and 'completely remove' Bluez.

Tried uninstalling Bluez and it did not alleviate the bluetooth device lag issues. And again, these issues ONLY happen in webtop. Sometimes they go away, the mouse & keyboard (/and*or/ the PS3 controller) work fine without any lag at all, but that is only like 20 percent of the time if that. It could be working, I disconnect, 5 min later hook it back up to webtop and the lag is back...
But, I really don't know what to do there so... I will just continue on with getting my webtop the way I want it.
I really would like to know how to replace 'metacity' window manager with something else. So much so that the .sh files and such that are called upon Webtop launch actually call the new window manager instead of metacity... I want to completely eliminate all reference to it and replace it with whatever window manager I want... like kwin or enlightenment ... but I certainly don't want to break the aiw (motorola phone window) in any way.
I was able to figure out why ubuntu-desktop wasn't finishing install. When dpkg got to configuring stuff it couldn't complete samba-common due to a bad readlink/symlink... and if samba-common couldn't complete, neither could smbclient, and in turn ubuntu-desktop. After deleteing the bad readlink and rerunning dpkg --configure -a ... the problem was resolved
I'm slowly learning how to get stuff fixed... but the more complicated I get, the easier it is to hose the whole webtop and then it's restore time!
Anyhow... progress, slowly but surely.
Is there a way to use webtop2sd AND the swap space hack?
I think I have the webtop2sd piece working correctly, but I still get low memory available errors when only running a single tab in Firefox.
Full Ubuntu someday would be nice, but for now I would just like to have the ability to have a stable and reliable browser. I am not much of a Linux guru and don't need to run native apps (at least right now). Should I just undo the webtop2sd app and go back and follow the directions to enable the swap space hack?
Thanks, any experienced advice would be appreciated.

Hey all,
I have a problem with not being able to write anything on my device. I have been trying to doctor it and it fails at 8%.
Since I have no data on my device that I would like to preserve, I am perfectly OK with wiping LVM completely.
I have been following instructions posted here (the part about erasing corrupt LVM):

Can someone help me wipe this thing?
Unfortunately I have had this problem out of the box, and so far HP hasn't been able to help me, as they fruitlessly try to doctor it for several hours now. Waiting for a call from a Level 3 tech now.
you might have to actually mount the volume before you can modify, give that a shot

I've tried many kinds of writing. Writing to a file system, writing to a block device, so far none of the changes are persistent.
Mount what? Mount on what? And modify what? There is a lot of different options here.
I appreciate all help, but your suggestion is incomplete.
Also in this thread I am trying to remove LVM labels. LVM resides on a block device and is not mountable. Further, physical volumes and volume groups cannot be removed while logical volumes are mounted.
I can't mount some of the logical volumes (log and var) in the LVM on my TouchPad. Still fail to mount after formatting attempts. Last resort is to nuke the LVM alltogether and write the volume group and all logical volumes from scratch, however, that's the problem discussed in this thread. Removing literally does nothing, vgremove and pvremove execute, however the volume group stays.
wow, my apologies, i didnt even notice how little/useless info i put in the post distracted @ work :/
anywho, since youre looking to wipe and start from scratch (as a last resort, im sure) are you able to clearpart? it might work with pvremove, but im not willing to try it on mine (more importantly, are you trying to remove the labels from just the physical volume and consequently the subs? or the logical only?
also, instead of pvremove, try pvchange to see if you can just modify existing labels to see if you can zero in on any changes (if any) are sticking.
also, give pvresize a shot after that, working you way back up to remove cuz at this point, id be willing to try anything to see if it will modify

Thanks for the suggestion.
It didn't want to update anything but I did a vg backup and restore combined with pvresize attempts.
clearpart does not exist on the recovery image unfortunately, although I did try to "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mmcblk0p14" before, it fails with I/O error.
pvresize was failing with "too many metadata areas for pvresize" error, but i rebooted using "umount -a; tellbootie reboot" anyway. No changes. Doctor and
devicetool still find the volumes.
Doctor fails unmounting /dev/mapper/store-log (same thing as /dev/store/log), and devicetool fails mounting /dev/store/var, both with error "Invalid argument".
I'm afraid I have to declare this unit defective, as it does not correctly perform commands other TouchPads perform during the recovery process.
thats a shame, it sounds like there is a problem with either the NAND, or a flaw with the cpu the last case resort i can think of, which is a 50/50 crapshoot is trying to zero the drive using zerombr (command might be "zerombr yes"), if its available (*should destroy all of the contents of disks with invalid partition tables) and see if you build from scratch with nova...
a daunting task, but if youve accepted the fact that its dead, its worth a shot. and on the upside, if it is dead, you now have spare parts! (hopefully you have another TP, the prices on craigslist etc are ridiculous these days :/)
also, since youve been speaking with HP, are they willing to exchange/repair/replace?
Thank you for your help.
I think its a freak case, because clearly under normal circumstances I should have been able to repair the filesystems with methods many other people have used.
HP is sending me a box for my unit, and I should receive a working one next week. I haven't voided the warranty since I still have WebOS on it, and could never make any changes, so I should be good.
Hopefully next one will play nicer than this one.
thats what i was thinking, when you make drastic changes like that to the filesystem and structure, it should stick or brick.
well at least you can swap it, are they charging for repairs? or listing as defective?
Due to inability to update to 3.0.4 using update app, or doctor they say I have a "software defect" and offered the free repair. I suspect however that I will receive a new or refurb unit, as I can't imagine them doing anything different short of working through the Qualcomm bootloader directly.
I should probably write down my serial number just to check.

thats a good idea, im kinda curious about that as well, considering HP is cutting stall left and right, i wonder if they have available staff to modify the low level , or just take the hit and sent refurb/"new"
The TouchPad is in in El Paso, TX facility right now, but I thought I'd post the email I got (after the box arrived).

the ONLY thing i needed to quote. escape/metal gear ref FTW
also, thats good ****, hopefully its a quick turnaround for the return, i hear theyre actually quite quick about it
The long awaited update... I got it back yesterday. UPS 2nd day air both ways, all paid for by HP (don't let 2nd day confuse you, its next day delivery).
The device I got back has my serial number on it, however the rubber seal on one of the corners is slightly raised, so I have to conclude that the techs opened it to replace the board. It's perfect otherwise. After seeing complaints of bad rocker switches and bad accelerometers/tilt sensors, I'm happy that mine is good on both counts.
To sum it up, HP support performed flawless warranty service for me.
My devices (strangely) still arrived with 3.0.2, but I was able to install 3.0.4 update as it normally should. It now reads and writes to storage as it should.
Had CM7 running within minutes, something I wasn't even able to attempt while storage was read-only.
As for CM7, I've used it for a day now, and I haven't experienced Wi-Fi drops or "sleep of death" others complain about. Knock on wood.
Very happy with Android on it. WebOS might be smooth, but there is nothing for me to do with it.
Looking forward to a finalized production quality rom! (Don't get me wrong, I haven't found anything to complain about in alpha so far!)
congrats! thats excellent that HP didnt welch on the RMA. i also figured that they wouldnt give you a replacement, considering this hardware is gonna be non existant in the market/refurb soon
the only good thing about all the trouble you went through trying to fix your old one is im sure you learned A LOT about how the hardware/file structure operates, always good to learn something new
hopefully we still see you around these threads, you really know your ****, and can most certainly contribute more than most
Thank you for your kind word.
Actually I got it wrong in my update. The TouchPad I received is actually a Franken-TouchPad. My serial number sticker apparently has another serial number sticker underneath, yet the back shell appears to be from my original TouchPad.
Interesting. I guess I'm happy as long as it works.
Same problem !!!
I have the same problem and just wanted to know if someone got any results in this problem. While searching on internet i found that there are quite some people with this issue, but no one had found a cure. I would really appreceate some help since i cant return it to hp, i already installed android on it.
The thing is that it worked great for a couple of weeks, i installed cm and mostly worked on it. And since 3 days or so i cant change anything. Cant remove files on cm or on webos, cant create any (i can but when i restart it nothing is changed), the acmeuninstaller dindn't work, and finnally when i'm doing :
lvm.static vgscan --ignorelockingfailure
lvm.static vgchange -ay --ignorelockingfailure
lvm.static vgremove store
The partitions dont remove, but i dont have any errors/warnings.
I guess i just want to know if this is a software issue and i can do anything or it's a hardware one.
Thanks in advance for any help
I had whatever, that updated to 7.3 as soon as I turned it on. Rooted fine with KF First Aide. Installed ES File Explorer, Google Play, etc. All was well. Then I read a post here how hard it was to copy/paste with ES File Explorer. I was joking about it with my husband and showing him how easy it was and copied random file... literally just randomly long pressed a file to show him the options, picked copy, and then went to another directory and *meant* to point to but touched paste instead... it was one of the Google Play files.
Kindle fire hd 7" immediately started freaking out. A mac address type error flashing so quick I couldn't do anything else. It was the same low letters and numbers you'd get with a mac address but said error and just an OK button which did nothing when you manage to tap in while flashing. Restarted, thinking if I was lucky Google Play just would't work... got the red triangle and neither option helped. So I ordered one of SkOrPn's cables which works flawlessly and boots right into fastboot. Yay for SkOrPn! Not so ya for me... (not their fault!).
It shows up as "Tate-PVT-08". I've tried every variation of driver I can find. Uninstalling all old things I can find, complete with the command line command to show ghost hubs/devices and what not and removing them and shut down/start up fresh too... no joy. Also removing and restarting between each driver try... neither of the Amazon drivers work for fastboot for me. I've tried so many things at this point my brain is fried.
So I'm hoping someone can help direct me how to fix this. . I won it in an online giveaway, so I'm not out anything, but it'd sure be nice to use it! As messed up as the Kindle crap is I'd be pissed if I bought it... but I'm majorly spoiled on Sony (Ericsson) and their "ya, play with it, screw it up, we don't care, here's how to fix it online just plug it in"... even before they had the online thing they'd let you send it back (and paid shipping both ways for it!) would reflash firmware and send it back with paper ticket that said "No problems found" lol... even on a device you actually bricked (wouldn't turn on... not the cute "brick"="I screwed it up but it's fixable" that people use now).
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Especially if you could steer me to drivers that work for 2nd generation HD 7 inch in fastboot on Windows 8. Thanks for reading if nothing else!
Try The SoupKit found here.
This is a Kinology HD using XDA Premium
Swap cables. Boot with the factory cable then switch to a normal one.
Thanks for the reply, but I've been doing that. Great advice for anyone who doesn't know though!
You couldn't have damaged anything by just copying a file unless either:
You cut the file
OR
You overwrote a system file
OR
You filled up your system partition.
If you still need help, I might be able to do some researching.

Thanks, I was hoping there was a better answer than just keep uninstalling/reinstalling various drivers in various ways til it works lol.
I've got a pc I haven't plugged it in to I'll try this weekend, if that doesn't work I'll do the Linux Soup Kit.

That was my first thing to try. Unfortunately one of them says stopped by user (preferred one) and the alternate won't install, gets to the end of installing and says didn't install, do manually... which has the same results. I'm getting the same results on another pc. Fun times lol.
Edit... I give up, it's Linux time. Will report back later.
My husband did the Soup kit (correct version, followed directions, etc.) with it for me while I was at work today on an pc he put Linux on (so nothing phone/tablet/adb/driver has ever touched it for anything). He's more savvy with Linux, I haven't used it much since the 90s while he regularly has it as a dual boot on his main pc. He used Ubuntu, followed the Soupkit directions and still no Linux love either.
I'm pretty much down to just sending it back, worst case they send it back and tell me I'm screwed. Both of us are so spoiled on Sony (me) and Google/Nexus (him)... that this some things only works sometimes and just keep bashing your head into the wall and something you already tried three times will work thing is out of our frame of reference (which is what it took to get it rooted lol). I've already spent more time trying to fix the stupid thing for something that shouldn't have even caused an issue than I've spent on both my Sonys combined... even though I've borked both more than once... crazy.
My only advice ... buy a real tablet lol. Luckily I won this so I'm not out anything if Amazon won't swap it... but I really like the 7" size for book reading.
I'll fix it for you...

If you're gonna send it anywhere, if you pay for shipping I could try to fix it. No guarantees, of course.
If you are on Windows 8 to install kfhd drivers you must advanced boot with unsigned drivers install mode active

Ya did all that fun stuff, repeatedly with various drivers with all the 20 steps in between to remove others, lol.
Husband spent quite some time with Linux and SoupKit to no avail also. He could get his phone to work (making sure he had all the rules and steps correct), but it never would do anything with the tablet.
I gave up and called Amazon late Monday. They had me turn it on and verify the red triangle screen then sent me a new one that arrived today. Take the new one out of the box and put the old one in they said. They paid shipping both ways. If they complain I'll tell them send me the old and I'll send the new one back lol (at my expense). If they want to make the thing such a mess to deal with what do they expect? They know there's a whole group of people that won't live with the crappy launcher mess they have .
Hello All,
Well, today I finally managed to unbrick mt KFHD after about a month or so of using it as a paperweight...Over the course of the last month I made four attempts at making the factory cable myself. Having absolutely zero prior experience and armed with the cheapest piece of crap soldering iron money can buy, my first 3 attempts ended in useless melted messes. Luckily this morning I decided to make one last attempt and I was finally able to pull it off.
Anyways, once I was finally able to get into fastboot mode, I went ahead and just flashed the stock rom and was thrilled to watch my kindle successfully boot up for the first time in over a month. Having finally managed to unbrick my device, I proceeded to do my victory dance around the house. Unfortunately as soon as I sat back down I realized that I had celebrated a little bit too soon. No matter what I tried, I could not get the wifi to turn on. There wasn't even a MAC address listed.
After much searching and many attempts to fix the problem, I cam accross a forum post from someone saying that they had the same issue, and they were only able to fix it after flashing a custom rom...something to do with the mmc0 block or something I dont quite remember. Since without wifi the KFHD is pretty much useless, I figured I had might as well give it a shot. It was a bit of a process, but I was able to flash TWRP and CM11, and now my wifi and basically everything else is working again.
My apologies for the somewhat long back story, but I didn't want to leave out potentially relevant information. The issue I am facing now is this: when logcat is open, anytime I touch the screen I am getting about 40 instances of this error --
06-01 22:40:25.830 E/TI OMAP PowerHAL(535): Error writing to /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/interactive/boostpulse: No such device
This happens regardless of whether or not I actually have the governor set to interactive. I've done quite a bit of searching to no avail...
Here is some of my system information:
Kernel: 3.0.72+ [email protected] #1
CM Version: 11-20140601-NIGHTLY-tate
Android: 4.2.2
I used No-Frills CPU App to see if changing the governor had any effect, and this information came from the About CPU function of that app..
- file: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/interactive/boost:
0
- file: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/interactive/boostpulse:
sh: <stdin>[1]: cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/interactive/boostpulse: Permission denied
- file: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/interactive/boostpulse_duration:
80000
Once again, sorry for the long post..anyone who has taken the time to read it, I thank you very much. If anyone has any ideas/suggestions, or even if you could just help me by telling me a little more about what the problem is, it would be very very much appreciated. I haven't had much luck searching :/
I wouldn't worry about it, I see this on Maromi's kernel when I mess with the frequency, I think it is a kernel device that doesn't show up, the file that calls for that sys path probably just needs taking out of the kernel.

Q&A for [webOS] [GUIDE] Unbrick the Touchpad
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [webOS] [GUIDE] Unbrick the Touchpad. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
How I fixed mine.
Just made an account to post this if anyone else ever happens to come across this thread.
At first pressing any button combination did nothing. I got the already broken TouchPad from a friend (where he got it from idk) and had no idea what had been done to mess it up, whether it was hardware/software or whatever.
First I tried to turn it on, nothing. So I plugged it in and forgot about it for around 2 days thinking the battery might be dead. I had the stock HP cable but used an iPad brick to plug it in the wall.
After 2 days I held power+home and got the little home button led to flash left and right, but nothing else. Somehow through a series of button holds/presses (power+home, power+down/up+home, etc.) I got the battery with question mark symbol to come up.
Tried holding power+home then power+vol.up again but it wouldn’t go into USB symbol mode
Searched and found jcsullins’ TPDebrick v004 (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/38786-tpdebrick-v004/). I have a Mac but was able to install Linux using Parallels.
Got the “all done” from the debrick program, plugged the TouchPad back into the wall for about a day. Held power+home again, now it didn’t show the battery question mark, but would freeze at the HP logo. Still no luck getting into usb mode and all that would work is power+home to turn it off and on, but nothing I tried would get it through the logo.
Thought maybe I used the wrong storage size in the debrick program (since I had no idea if it was a 16, 32, or 64gb) so I did the 32 instead of 16. Still no luck. Tried 16 again, froze on the logo again. I held home+power to turn it off, then plugged the TouchPad into the wall and it started bootlooping (not frozen) at the HP logo. Okay, that’s at least a difference, but still no usb symbol..
The power+vol.up combo wouldn’t do anything at all, power+home would just turn it off where nothing would work until I did the same combo again and it went back to looping. During one loop I just held down the vol.down button, the thing went off, then I did power+home got it back to looping, then held just the vol.up during one of the loop resets and VOILA! White USB symbol appears and I’m now in recovery mode.
Now I could finally follow this thread (http://forums.webosnation.com/hp-touchpad/320485-how-completely-fix-bricked-touch-pad.html). But had to now install Windows on Parallels (probably could have used Linux but it scares me) to follow the procedure.
But of course Windows couldn’t recognize the TouchPad since I didn’t have novaterm and novacom and the hp drivers etc. I had no idea what any of these programs were so it took a while but I found this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20989526#post20989526), got novacom/novaterm, the recovery image, and webOS Doctor 3.00 and 3.04. Followed the instructions there to install the programs, but whenever I tried typing in novacom in terminal I would get “novacom is not recognized as an internal or external command..” Ugh.
This thread (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/6597-installation-help/) said I needed to put acmeinstaller in the same folder as the novacom.exe file in the Palm, Inc folder. So many threads I went to would never have the files I needed or lead to broken websites because of HP discontinuing support, but I was able to get acmeinstaller from here (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_tenderloin) and put it in the Palm, Inc folder. Also found all the webOS doctors here (https://web.archive.org/web/2014021...nals.org/wiki/Webos_Doctor_Versions#Wifi_Only). Terminal still wouldn’t recognize novacom…
So I uninstalled it completely, rebooted, then found this thread (http://forums.webosnation.com/canuck-coding/274461-webos-quick-install-v4-6-0-a.html) and used the WebOS Quick Install tool to get novacom installed and that finally worked. I knew it worked because I checked it with the method here (http://www.reverendkyle.com/index.php/articles/91-problems-with-novacom).
That whole time the TouchPad was still on the recovery mode USB symbol and I was just praying it wouldn’t run out of battery or something while I had to do all that extra searching. So I finally met all the requirements, and was able to successfully complete the process again at this thread (http://forums.webosnation.com/hp-touchpad/320485-how-completely-fix-bricked-touch-pad.html). Followed everything to the dot, copying and pasting lines so I wouldn’t screw up, then the TouchPad rebooted (took a looong time to get passed the pulsing logo though) and sent me to the language selection screen holy crap something actually worked.
Went through the beginning of the setup stuff, but OF COURSE I couldn’t finish setup because HP servers were down, so I couldn’t login or even make a WebOS account. FML.
So I searched and searched and found this thread (http://forums.webosnation.com/hp-touchpad/317164-activation-bypass-touchpad.html) that told me how to bypass the activation. The link in this thread (http://forums.webosnation.com/webos...7-bypass-activation-download-link-broken.html) let me download the tool since the one in the above website was down.
Once I did that the TouchPad rebooted, froze on the HP logo for about 10 minutes, then stayed on the pulsing logo for around 15-20 minutes, then booted to a frozen, inoperable webOS…
Found this thread about jcsullins’ TouchPad toolbox (http://liliputing.com/2014/06/use-touchpad-toolbox-install-android-erase-webos-hp-touchpad.html) So I held power+home, as soon as it started to reboot held power+vol.up and got into recovery mode. Downloaded the toolbox, followed the instructions in the above thread, and was FINALLY able to get it 100% working and on android!
The whole process took me about a week and a day of trial and error since I had no idea what I was doing on 90% of the steps. Everywhere I went people seemed to be saying that the TouchPad was unbrickable and I found it hard to believe, but after going through everything I did to finally get it working it could be true. I feel like I hit every roadblock possible, but at least it paid off in the end. If it wasn’t for all the random advice and success stories I found on various forums I would’ve never been able to do it, so here’s mine hoping it’ll help you! Good luck!!
