Everytime I attempt to flash a kernel, after everything is installed. I go to plug it into ac and the phone stays stuck, moving only one percent maybe at most every five minutes. On a stock kernel I can gain 20 percent in just 15mins. Immediately upon boot up the phone starts to overheat and I'll drop a percent off battery life every two mins.
These are after clean installs. Etc.

Well here's my 2 cents. If your using a good download and your flashing it correctly then the only thing that could be causing issues is your device itself. Some devices are weaker than others and cannot handle kernel changes at all without going on a frits. I would recommend doing a md5 checksum on the recovery your using and the kernel.

I have confirmed all md5 checks are a success. That was my first concern. As for downloads, I used an extremely fast and stable internet connection and verified file sizes. It's just unfortunate kernels cause my phone to go on the fritz as you said. The moment I revert everything back, my battery life restores back to normal. No heating issues, etc. It's just a shame, because the kernels add a wealth of new features I like

Can I flash a new ROM with 60 percent battery? I see where most ROM'S recommend flashing with a full battery. Does this affect anything like how much charge the phone thinks the battery has? Or are there other reasons to flash with a full battery?

It doesn't matter. I flashed at 5% once. The only thing you have to do is recalibrate your battery after.

That would be a big problem
I tend to always flash at 100%. Just to avoid any issues. But you can flash at 60% if you really wanted to. Just do a calibration
Do it with full battery . Calibrating takes ages

Trying to be a smart aleck, not confrontational...
If you are using odin, by definition the phone is plugged in to a USB power source. I suspect you couldn't drain the battery in that circumstance - maybe if you were plugged in, playing a video while serving up Mobile AP. But not when the screen is doing nothing but saying it's in download mode.

That's assuming every one uses odin
I just clear data and cache and flash the new rom. But I charge up to 100% so the battery reads fine.

Yeah thats why I said "somehow". I thought about your point while posting though and it makes plenty of sense and im pretty sure you can charge a phone no matter what state it is in (soft brick, hard brick, waterlogged ha)

I've flashed in the range of 50 - 100%, never had a problem
like others said you just have to recalibrate your battery after.
I probably wouldn't go less than 50% though just to be safe.
It would probably be best to flash on a full battery, but I don't think its necessary. Just recalibrate and wipe battery stats and you should be fine.

I have jvz stock with newest Semaphore kernel and the blue Elin Mod, and after my phone cut off because it was so dead, I booting into recovery mode and wiped dalve cache. Now I know it was super dead. Anyways, when I turned it back on, the date was set to January 1, 2005..... Presumably the dead battery caused this.
Could I have done any other harm?

My battery has been sluggish right after updating 4.0.4. Right after restarting my device, i left only 20% of battery instead of 90% before restarting. Im getting sick n tired of samsung. Thers always a problem after software update. Im wondering wether they ever tested their software before releasing it to consumer. LOUSY

Calibrate your battery.
Let it empty untill blackout. Take out battery for 2 min then put it back again, and charge it to full, do not push the on button while charging.
My suggestion is to install and SPYCPU podesiš processor clock so you would not spend the battery more than they need. We also have a large selection governo, naćićeš best balance of performance and battery life.

After i updated to 4.0.4 baterry life was significantly better. try using carat, it works

1.turn on aeroplane mode
2.turn off device
3.take out battery for 10 seconds
4.turn on device
5.wait for everything to load
6.turn off aeroplane mode

Install CpuSpy from playstore.
Check if ur device goes in deep sleep mode.. If not then follow these steps.. :-
1.turn on aeroplane mode
2.turn off device
3.take out battery for 10 seconds
4.turn on device
5.wait for everything to load
6.turn off aeroplane mode

The total of 1 week I was on both OS builds I had these issues that I identified to be the battery:
Facebook
GPSD
and then not going into deep sleep (the phone gets warm)
Badass Battery (now another name, but you can still search Badass battery) and BBS (Better Battery Stats) helped me.

So far i hv been using pretty alot of apps. Been using carat,netqin and cpu spy. Well the batt is still i would say average.. Im wondering how to read this thing on cpu spy. Especially the deep sleep graph. Is it sufficient? Or am i doing the wrong thing or what?

You can check version in settings, then about phone in bottom Guess you are on stock. Be carefull wiping, factory resetting and deleting large files as kernel can trigger a bug in emmc chip, corrupting partitions.
good you started analysing root causes. Always best case.
now if you dont care for warrantee you can follow directions from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29139461 to get back to starting point of install. Or to install the awesome speedmod kernel.
Alteratively you can add apps one by one and together with battery usage analysed you can fin culprits. With tools like betterbatterystats, cpu spy and badassbattery monitor

How i wish i could use those speedmod kernel and so on. Well im quite afraid to root it cuz im not too sure that im gonna use this phone for a long time. As the phone value will decrease if i void the warranty. But thx for replying my post tho. As for now im still monitoring my batt behaviour.

Galaxy Note problem
When I got my Galaxy Note, the battery used to last for 10 hrs on GB. After upgrading to ICS, that time dropped to 8 hrs. And after ICS updates, it went down to less than 4 hrs since it was discharging much fatser than charging, and it was the same whether I used the original power charger or direct USB cable.
The original charger is an adapter + USB cable.
Everything went fine when i changed the USB and used the one originally used to charge the Sony 3D glasses.
Now it's charging normally and the discharge rate is around 8% /hr with WIFI and mobile data ON.
Hope it will work for you.
I just flashed CM10 Experimental build 02/11/13, and it is stuck on the boot logo. I have tried relocking the bootloader, running the RUU, unlocking the bootloader, and reflashing CM but it still won't work.
EDIT: Now, I can't even boot into HBOOT!

How did you brick it? It's almost impossible if you flashed the rom than fastboot flashed the boot.img, wipe cache and dalvik.

You didn't brick it. CM10 for the Vivid has boot issues. Keep flashing the boot.img and ROM while wiping caches and factory resetting repeatedly until it boots.

At what point does your phone reboots? At the white HTC screen or at the Cyanogenmod boot animation?
Have you tried removing the battery for 30 seconds, putting it back in, waiting 10 seconds and then the bootloader button sequence?

Does your orange light up when you plug it? Could you try another battery? I heard battery durability was short on some devices.

Dead battery
I would suspect the battery has cratered. The symptoms are identical, doesn't boot, doesn't light when plugged in, etc.
1. Get an external battery charger. I have had good luck with one by Anker on Amazon
2. Charge your battery in the external system.
3. Pop it back into your phone and turn it on.
When you go to Amazon to buy that charger, buy yourself a spare battery. My favorite system is to keep a charged battery with me, swap it in when the phone battery gets too low, and get that battery into a charger. Total phone down time, less than 1 minute. And for those occasions when the battery takes a dump like yours did, you have a charged backup waiting.

Just pointing this out....ignore tapatalk signatures as many people have more than one device...Zero actually has his own dev thread here for the vivid for miui
I don't really have much to offer help wise...but the vivid is known for corrupting batteries if they die while the phone is not booted up...or at least jot being able to charge a dead battery...try getting a new battery and see if that helps...best of luck to you...hope you figure it out...its a shame when an expensive device becomes nothing more than a paper weight...if I get any other ideas I'll let you know...

Worst case scenario...you can try selling it for $25-75 depending on physical condition...some people love buying broken phones cause they know how to fix them...then you can put that money towards a new phone

Sounds like you've taken several steps to try to resolve your issue. Can you say with 100% certainty which recovery was last installed and whether that recovery flashed correctly? The symptoms sound like a discharged battery with no charge support in recovery, or a corrupted recovery image.
These are the steps I would take. Obtain a charged battery. This could be a standalone battery charger, where you remove the battery from your device and plug it into the charger. The charger should indicate the current charge condition of the battery and when it is fully charged. Or, buy/borrow a battery you know to have a charge. There are inexpensive batteries @ Amazon that would suffice for this effort.
If, with a known charged battery you can't get into bootloader, you have bigger issues. If you can, then find the instructions on the forum to get back to stock and start over.

I have recently bought a HTC One and the battery is behaving very poorly. My screen brightness is set to around 25% and I only have location services and Auto-Sync on and I can't even go half a day with this thing. I have tried running all kinds of different ROMs to see if that changes anything but it doesn't.Side note it was bought from Swappa if that changes anything.

Look at the first screen shot, warning signs already. Your screen was only on for 30 minutes and yet your phone was AWAKE for almost 5 hours. I see your using 3g data but your Wifi has been on for almost 6 hours. Also your phone radio is using up quite a bit of juice which I assume is because your signal isn't great. Biggest recommendation right now, turn off the location stuff, they are battery hogs. You should also download betterbatterystats which breaks down all the things keeping your phone awake
I also can propose to you to turn off the wi fi ... For me it eats my battery more than the 3G signal.

Even with low signal, this a very odd behavior. The battery is draining too fast.
Try downloading CPU-Z and check the active processor cores and sensor operation. You might have a defective unit.

Turning of WiFi has no difference in battery as well as turning off Mobile Network completely. I do think I have a defective unit though, but I have bought this off of Swappa and don't know where to start.

As Galactus said, get betterbatterystats to check your wakelocks.. A "Held Awake" time of almost 10x as much as screen on is no good!

Try the new ViperONE rom 3.1.0 it has much better battery performance, i had issues with battery too, but after flashing with this rom , it's much much better battery life.
I'm using Android Revoloution atm but I haven't tried viper yet, will probably try tonight.

In BBS you need to show us your partial wake locks and personally I find most roms to be the same regarding battery life. I don't think the device is defective, something whether its a rogue app or a messed up file is keeping the phone on when you have your screen off
